(2008/09) Sep 2008

hey lim,
thanks for updating the table with my info.

sian ah, yesterday kanna food poisoning. rushed to TMC to see doctor, in case it affects my bb. hope to recover soon from this & MS.

i read abt the correlation b/w heartbeat rate & bb gender in previous postings. can someone refresh the details again? wanna verify my bb's gender. thanks...

I'm taking Anmum and DumexMama too. Taking Chocolate and Milk.. So far, haven't gained much weight too, but I definitely do not hope to gain too much weight now..as I think more will come at a later stage.. haha, gonna save some 'space' for laters...

but anyway, i love the milk..it makes me hunger go away..now being hungry feels so different from pre-preganancy.. the hunger 'pain' feels so acute.. gonna eat asap, unlike before where I can tahan for a few more hours..

do u mamas feel the same way?

i am looking forward to this thu too, seeing my baby again.. this week is the 11wk. should be doing the blood tests next week..

hello mommies, i saw a few of you mention about an oscar test, what is that for and when do we have to do that test? I'm into my 11th week already.

hi twendy
had bout of food poisoning previously. but both gynae and gp said that food poisoning will not affect bb. the only worry is us getting dehydrated hence affecting bb. so must remember to hydrate during this period and get well soon.

Hi mummies, just saw Dr Woody tonight, blood clots is still there... Haiz....
sad.gif
So fustrating! When I told him today still bleed brown blood, he asked me if I am working. Told him yes & immediately he said, cannot work for the rest of the week. Rest at home, rest & watch TV! I really really hope that the blood clots will disappear! So sianz!

Also did blood test today but forgot to ask Dr what is it for.. Opps..

My MS like subsiding but I still feel something stuck in my throat & want to get it out by vomitting, anyone here also like this? Went to work today & feel so tired! My shoulders are aching!

dmbb, Dr Fong is someone who will talk to you when it is necessary... so if you want to talk about it earlier, you will have to raise it... if I remember correctly, he will only start to talk about it after the fifth month but you will not need to confirm until much much later... he can deliver in a couple of places: Mt E, Mt A, TMC... not sure if he can deliver elsewhere... for me, I chose TMC the last time round as it was among the cheaper one and Mt A is a little too old for my liking... so this time round, I will also go back to TMC..

storeberry, my MS also subsiding but still someting is still stuck in the throat hence sometimes i still have to puke out that something stuck inside to find relieve.hehehe.

just as i was thinking my ms subsiding, i puked my dinner and supper and bf this morning urrgghhh.... well at least i know the bb is growing strong

hi Bigtoes / Lemon, maybe it's because the moms drink more milk now as compared to pre pregnancy, which results in the weight gain, rather than due to the milk contents... But yeah Lemon, I seem to love milk more than ever. Helps to curb hunger, thou for a while only.

Hi Ying Ling, oic.. then I guess I will wait for him to bring it up, I suppose he will pass us the info on the charges of different hospitals right? btw, how's ur bb?

hi sasa de mouse and slybaby,
can i get those crysanthemum tea off those medical halls? or those specialised in brewing herbal tea shop kind? heee.. lazy to boil my own.

i have been feeling very slpy oso! Anywhere, anytime, any place. Sleep so much but still tired..

Bigtoes! Your gynae told u the bps! So good! I had 1001 qns to ask my gynae before the appt. Then once I see the baby kicking and flipping inside, I forgot to ask everything liao! HB ask me to write down on paper for the next visit.. haaa..

Anyway, just wana know if anyone sleeps on the tummy? I am one and I've googled to see if its ok. Seems like almost everyone says ok, until we feel uncomfy then we have to stop.
I hope I am not squashing my baby inside.. hee

And all mtb who are unwell in one way or another (like myself ;-() do take care and drink more water...

crayonshinchan (crayonshinchan) - Actually, i didn't think about what I wanted to ask also, was so excited seeing the baby bounce up and down; very figgity, which the gyne said is a healthy sign
happy.gif
I didn't go to my regular gyne for the OSCAR scan, had to go to another one in TMC, cos his room has the ultra-high tech scanning equipment (different from the regular ones in the other gynes) - can scan the baby very clearly from the tummy & has the doppler to listen to the heart beat.

Anyway, loaded 2 more photos here - http://bigfattoes.multiply.com/photos/album/117/Our_babys_pre-birth_photos. He measured the nasal bone & the space behind the neck for the down syndrome check.

hi ladies,

i have not been able to sleep. is this normal?
in addition, does anyone feel some tightness or pain in the left chest? thanks.

omg!!!! bigtoes, ur pic is sooooo soooooo sooooo clear lor!

on screen, it was clear but when we printed it out, it was not so clear. *so envious*

can we do a walk in and ask for a scan?? heeee...

hi crayonshinchan,

thanks for your reply.
i thot so too..but i can fill the pain in a minute..and then it comes again couple of seconds later. I am wondering if this is normal.

sasa de mouse

I have seen the doc last night. Everything is fine, bad cramps is because i walk too much. Doc gave me a mc for today to rest at home. Hubby ban me from going shopping. haha!!

I saw my baby kicking and playing. So cute. So relieved after i seen the doc and my appetite came back. =)

Hi Rabbit

Me too. I feel that i cannot sleep as 'soundly' as i used to be in the past.

Btw, do u all have the dosages for ur fish oil tablets huh? What is the mg for DHA and EPA component huh?

When do we need to start applying stretchmark cream? I'm already into my 12th week and thinking of starting to apply the stretchmark cream, but when I went to buy it with my HB yesterday, he refused to let me buy it. Says it is so expensive, and I'm only looking at cocoa butter at Watsons! He says it's not necessary, anyway, no one will look at the stretchmarks, only me. I'm so mad! He says if stretchmark creams are so effective, then what is the massage lady for? I had to tell him they are for totally different things. I had already started asking for the rates for a massage lady and he told me I can just go to Batam for the massage, why would I need to hire a massage lady specially to the house for the massage?

He is also looking for hand-me downs milk bottles, not that I have anything against hand-me downs. I'm all for it, clothes, cots, etc, but not milk bottles, I think after using for a long time, they are not so 'clean' anymore.

I wish somebody would knock some sense into him! He thinks having a baby is cheap? This is our first born yet I am showing more enthusiasm than him, he is refusing to let me buy anything for the baby so far!
sad.gif

crayonshinchan (crayonshinchan) - the scan was actually much clearer on screen, once printed out also abit blur.
sad.gif
They used a more high tech machine this time, since need to take measurements for the OSCAR test.

Rabbit (rebirth) - sounds like heartburn, since its around the chest area. Suppose to get more common as the pregnancy progresses. But if it doesn't go away, better to go to the GP at least.

rabbit, yes, i'm also the same, cant sleep as well as i used to... =( and i woke up more often for toilet breaks now.. so frustrating!

as for the chest pain, it's left, where our heart is. it's most probably heartburn. i used to get it everytime after i had my meals! u hv to eat slowly, and dun eat only when u r hungry, n try walking after meals. all these pointers will help, but as we are into later stage of preg, heartburn will be part n parcel of our life. tat's bcoz the tummy will be tighter n no more space for the BB and our food, but tat only happens more after dinner time.

do u get heartburn also after BF or lunch??

Hi all mommies to be! A newbie in this forum ;) I’m currently in my 9th weeks +, EDD is on 26 Sept, gynae is Dr Kee WH at TMC.

Currently my MS is getting worse, sometimes drinking of milk or even plain water will make me wanna vomit.
Saw so many of u going to 12th weeks and MS getting lesser, I can’t wait for it to be my turn :p

wingkei, i dunno if your hubby is really the thrify type or he is just generous with himself. but if he is only stingy towards other, then i would think it's wrong of him, esp towards his loved ones!

if he thinks it's too early for u to start buyug anything for the bb, then he has his point also.. coz maybe he thinks tat u dont even know the gender, so it's pointless to start getting things... if he feels the pinch now, then just let him be. start looking around, but buy after the 5th mth, is it beta? =) coz tat can help u to reduce impulse purchases too.

but i'm not quite agreeable to letting a newborn(NB) use a recycled milk bottle. the body system of a NB is not ready for any infection yet! and colic is already a BIG problem we need to tackle when they arrive, so the last thing we want to be informed tat smthing has happened to our NB.

tell your hubby tat u can get very good deals from mommies here who are selling their milk bottles. i'm using Avent now, and it's anti-colic. there are 3 sizes, 125ml, 260ml and 330ml. NB will only need 125ml bottles for the first few mths, then will need to upgrade to 260ml( i stopped here coz my girl drinks only 210ml max.)

u can check out the prices from shopping malls, and make some notes of their prices. buy it from mommies when their prices are good. feel free to ask any questions since there are many experienced mommies here to help u! =)

jewel,
thx for ur advice. Think I will rest more then. Have been worried if my bb will be healthy since I'm always so lethergic compared to first preggie. Me too, was brisk walking even two days before the first birth. Dunno why like that now.
And I'm so sorry to hear abt ur mc. It must have been terrible to mc at 17 weeks...

xuanmummy
i dun dare to walk or do any exercise leh... Now my movements all v slow cos I'm afraid any fast movements, even walking too much might strain my womb area, which I often feel. And yest I din even have energy to stand up to blow bubbles with her. Had to sit down...
Think I'm gonna become a big fat pig for this preggie with such limited movements...

morning all,

last friday went for my checkup and my blood test results was normal, will be going for my first trimester screening next mon at NUH, gonna cost $190 plus...
managed to see baby playing with fingers and legs, oso able to see the eyes liao...

hi Goldfish, bigtoes, loever,

thanks for your advices and reply.
I was so worried that I am going to get a "heart attack"..I am not sure if the heartburn appears after food. I was all along fine during the pregnancy (had occasional chest pain before pregnancy) but start having it since yesterday afternoon. woke up last night and feel the little pain at the chest.
I will monitor and check if it occurs after food and take note of all your suggestions.

was so upset with my hubby as he scolded me and give me cold shoulder for not taking anti-vomit pills. i told him that i can stand it since it is only occasional vomit.I am worried abt the side effect to the bb with all these unnecessary pills.

hi wingkei,
maybe your hubby thinks it is a little early to buy all the stuff. i agree with loever that you can check out the prices and then slowly tell him. Man thinks differently somehow...guess they do not understand since they are not in our position.

hi jaline and jessi,

congrats.
I can't wait to see my little one this week ;)

Hi ydnic, yah man, the stuck in the throat feeling is horrible!! But after I took the medication, I have to force it down & not think about vomitting. So irritating!

@lorever@, I also don't sleep as well now which is why I am tired most of the time. Would wake up halfway almost everyday, last time I am able to sleep throughout....

Isabelle: I am still on MC (more than one mth liao) & I don;t even dare to walk for too long because of blood clots so I will be an even fatter & unhealthy mummy!! Sama sama!!

Surfing the forum now, super bored...

Rabbit (rebirth) - if it is really heartburn/gastric reflux, just try to avoid too oily food (like chicken rice), and spicy stuff. I get gastric reflux once a while also, and the best medication is "Nexium". This is prescription only, so u need to get from your GP. I have checked the documentation before taking it some weeks back, and it is safe for pregnant ladies. The pills are not cheap though, about $80+ a box, or $4-5 each, but cures the problem within 15 minutes

dmbb, as for hospital charges, not sure if he will share with you or not as the previous time, I went to do a search and decided on TMC before he spoke to me... even if he does not know the price (which I think he should roughly know), the friendly receptionists should know...

my bb is very naughty now and demanding... I do not have so much energy for her at the moment... so hyper... wants to walk around but no confidence to walk on her own yet so keep crawling to me, grab my hands and just walk... tiring to keep up with her especially now...

bigtoes, how long did the scanning take? did they do it from all angles? how long will the results take? i should be doing mine in about 2wks.

Hi xuanting, my scan took about half an hour to 45 mins. Results was quite fast because I brought back the results for DR Woody as I am meeting him soon. If the bb is cooperative, they will be able to take the neck measurements, I don't think they did it all angles...

xuanting (xuanting) - the wait for my turn was like 2+ hours (the gyne was called for surgery), but the scanning was about 20 min in total I think. This was just a tummy scan, with the probe pressed on the tummy at different angles. The gyne did 3 measurements (to get the average) of the fluid behind the neck, head circumference measurements, length etc...he then charted these against tables which show the min-max acceptable range.

Any reading outside the max range means a higher risk for down syndrome. From these readings, the baby's risk for DS would be adjusted (based on age & the readings). Of cos, we still have to wait for the OSCAR and blood test results (1-2 days later).

thanks, storeberry & bigtoes.

storeberry, did you do yours at the tmc x-ray dept?

bigtoes, was yours at dr tc chang's room?

Hi storeberry, think we might have heartburn.hehehe. maybe taking some heartburn medication might help.
Hopefully the taste will be gone when i wake up the next morning...praying hard now.

Some of u have take OSCAR. How much is it inclusive of gst?

hi MTBs,

good luck for all the OSCAR and blood test results.

hi bigtoes,

thanks for the advice. will monitor and hope it goes away.

hi twendy,
regarding your Q, I read from motherhood magazine. According to old wives' tales:
If your baby's heart rate is 139 or less, it's a boy. If it is 140 or more, you'll have a girl.

xuanting (xuanting) - yes, my OSCAR at TMC was done at by Dr TC Chang (think only he has the more fancy scanning equipment).

ydnic (cinnet26) - OSCAR & the blood test, inclusive of GST is $500. I paid for 1/2 my basic package yesterday (to waive the consultation fee) & the total cost was about $2000 (OSCAR, blood test, & 1/2 of the package cost).

Hi Winnie,

I think the best time to take Bird's nest is from the 5th month onwards. Once a week if possible, or once every two weeks. Then the baby's skin will be v fair.
happy.gif
I quite believe in this, cos my baby and my friends who all take birds nests have fair babies!
happy.gif

thanks, bigtoes. i was supposed to to it at dr chang's office too but he'll be on leave then so they're sending me up to the tmc x-ray dept instead. wonder if i will be able to get a (slightly) discounted rate if i were to sign up for the first born incentive.

hi isabelle, where did you do yours?

Thanks Ruixiangmom

I still planning to take in 2nd trim..think i will wait till i 5 month..haha like that can save money also...birdnest not cheap...when i 5 months will get my husband to buy then my mum can cook for me....

Xuanting
mine also done by TC Chang. But he's my gynae. So I dunno if that's where the price diff lies.

Btw, TC Chang is not with the FBI incentives. But think can get discount on room rates. Even this year when I was hospitalised for bleeding, I cld get 5% discount on the room rate cos my card expires only in april.

Winnie
remember to clean the bird's nest thoroughly b4 cooking hor. It is very very very dirty! Got lots of dirt and tiny feathers which can't really be seen until u soak it in water and it softens a bit. Then u see against the light. Woah... all the dirt! Must use tweezers to extract!

Thanks isabelle
will remind my mum on that...think she will know what to do ba..haha...cant wait for 5 month to come..then can slowly start to buy bb stuff...

winnie
Yep yep, guess our mummies will know wat to do!
happy.gif
Cos my MIL told me some of her frens just sui sui bian bian rinse in water and dump the bird's nest in already! Yeek!
Thot u were gg to say cant wait for 5th mth to come, then can eat bird's nest! haha

thanks, isabelle. i wonder too. the nurses told me that the test costs $300+ though. perhaps bigtoes also did the other group of blood tests (hiv, hepatitis, toxoplasmosis etc) at the same time. that's about $145.

guys, what's the bird's nest for?

xuanting (xuanting) - yes, mine includes a whole host of test, including HIV, thalassemia, hepatitis etc... Actually, some are not even necessary, but they didn't really ask if we wanted it (just assumed we did).
