i have same thought as u. i talked to my HOD about applying PT, she said no. of classes will be fewer, but no guarantee shorter working hours, all depends on time-table, which means i can have a class at 8am, then rot till 4pm for another class.
as for maternity leave, i was pissed that i must take 16 weeks in one go, cannot break. some more Dec school holiday is also counted inside. we don't have annual leave, by right Dec school holiday is our annual leave, why should they eat up our annual leave. so this time before they eat me, i eat them first, i took maternity leave 3 weeks before my EDD, so by end of 16-week maternity leave, then Dec school holiday. but my friend's dad who is a principal says it depends on the principal to approve the breaking of maternity leave... too bad my P and HOD are law-by-law people.
as for childcare leave, i just type one sentence to P: I need to take care of my child as the care-giver is not available on that day. but my HOD also very troublesome, keep asking why i take childcare leave. i just say "to take care of child lor" LOL
