Mandy, I brought some pigeon porridge (just need to heat up) but it was very watery and not filling enough. That time, RaeAnne was less than 11 months and has hardly any teeth so I can't choose the '12 months & above more filling' pigeon porridge for her. I was travelling with an entourage of relatives so my 2nd aunt who has experience looking after 2 young grandchildren helped me to cook RaeAnne's porridge everyday. She brought a travel cooking pot.
Actually if I'm travelling with RaeAnne now, I will bring either a portable camping hotplate stove or a small rice cooker (if you don't want to wake up too early in the morning to cook the porridge). Of course, slow cooker is best cos the porridge will be really mushy and no heat to worry about overheating. Just boil water using the hotel electric jug then pour into the slow cooker so that it will cook faster, cut your ingredients very small though cos hardy veg/fruits take long time to soften.
For ingredients, bring those hardy ones that can keep well in the normal hotel bar fridge eg. dried scallops or pre-prepared ikan bilis powder or 银鱼粉(for taste since not bringing raw meat), hardy fruits/veg eg. sweet potato, potato, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, baby corn etc. That should make a yummy porridge for those few days.
If your hotel is near a supermarket, can make a trip down on the first day to get some veg or eggs etc. Of course, since Jayden is older now, can also give him plain congee with some bland dishes from the HK restaurants if you don't mind.
