(2007/08) August 2007 MTBs

chatty, zhuzhu,
His temp up and down, day time down and night time very high, doc said fever will only go away 4-5days. No other symdrome besides fever.
3-4am sponge him? Only given him paracetomol day time. He will pull away the forehead cooling pad and eat it, so i dun dare to put on anymore.

Loh: use and put until cannot go in. I asked Dr liao

Sponge him means:
use the cloth and soak and squeeze tap water out.. keep repeating until his head dun feel hot

loh,
for bb, not advisable to go beyond 37.5 degrees

chatty,
oh dear.. if the lesson is during noon time and strong sun, better put sunblock cos bb skin can b veri sensitive..

zhuzhu,

need lotus to make lotus soup?? i have one at home...

zhuzhu,
btw, use tape water to sponge rite? Must be v v cool if doing it in the midle of the night!!Heard fr bbsitter, baby's temp went down aft taking paracetomol this morning.phew

wiselyn,
hahahah.....i wonder how come lotus soup w/o lotus become wat...then aft see the pic a few times that i realised wat u meant!!!hahahahah.....the lotus is so fair and smooth

loh,
fever advise fr pd fr last wk:
1)keep bb cool ( so i just let him wear sleepsuit to bed, not his grobag)
2) maximisae liquids (BM is good, but if tharts not posssible, can try to give him water)
3)if fever doesn't go <37.5 C after 2 hrs w paracetomol. give brufen (sp?)

also, tip re: giving meds, hold bb close to your body, his side pressed up against u, in semi-sitting position, one arm behind ur back, almost as if ur about to latch him on to nurse, with ur arm supporting his head n holding his other arm tt is i front of u..then tilt his head back, n put the syringe full of meds in his cheek (slowly squirt it out)..close his mouth until he swallows..u may wanna get a helper for the squirting so u can concentrate on holding bb still..after i learnt this method of gving meds, it was much less painful 4 everyone..best of luck!

magical,
yea i was may bride..may 28th was the AD..SEEMS LIKE LIGHT YEARS AGO NOW!
happy.gif
when was ur AD? we weren't planning on kids so early, but it just kinda happened!

took yee heng to underwater world yesterday..w his grandparents in tow! was fun 4 everyone but i think we had the youngest child there! think the highlight for him was when he saw a diver in the tunnel cleaning it and he waved at us....yee heng was grinning at him! pity that the fishies weren't all taht interesting after a while, but hey, i guess to a 7 month old, if u've seen one fish,u've seen them all!! my MIL and I were just saying he probbaly would have had just as much fun at the aquarium at wisma..heheh!

lilyn: The class was quite fun, but the after effects were not, coz we totally forgot about the sunblock. According to the books, the best we can do for sunburn is to put a cool compress on the burnt areas and put some moisturizer. What we've been doing is to put the individually wrapped Nuk Cleansing wipes into the fridge to chill, and then applying it on his face. Fortunately the sunburn is mild, but guess it must have been uncomfortable for him, esp. yesterday.

am now using tulip's method to cook porridge for yee heng..hopefully we'll get his weight gain up! bought chicken drumsticks for him yesterday to make the stock, n gosh was it yummy! beautiful, gelatinous and super tasty too! but of course the lil bugger only had a lil bit of porridge which had the stock in it then didn't want anymore..grrr...

in other interesting developments, yee heng is now semi-crawling! yesterday he was able to lift up his bum (high in the air!!) and propel himself forward a lil bit! he's otherwise doing the commando crawl (aka wiggling on his tummy)..its so cute to watch, esp if i place his toys just out of his reach..and to think he could only just sit unaassisted 2+weeks ago!

Lilyn: Great to know that Yee Heng is beginning to move around : )!

Foodwise, just to share with you, one thing I've realised that what is delicious to me is not really delicious to James...I noticed that James doesn't like things that are too tasty, because he's used to taking bland (tasteless) food. For example, he prefers unseasoned pureed carrot / broccoli / cauliflower / spinach / celery with his Healthy Times Organic Brown Rice Cereal. Anything stronger in taste such as apple, sweet potato or pumpkin or yogurt, he rejected initially and scrunched up his little face. However, when I mixed just a little bit of these foods in with his bland food and gradually increased the amounts over time, he was able to accept it, and now he laps it up eagerly.

Maybe you can try this method, just a tiny drop of stock in each spoonful of porridge, till Yee Heng gets used to the taste, before slowly increasing the amounts.

Lilyn,
congrats hehehe.. Ike now at same page too with YeeHeng

Chatty,
my boy seems very greedy compared to James.. if too bland he refuses, but he will gobble down a full bowl of tasteful porridge!!

wiselyn,
hahha, u so bad... clara's hand becom lotus liaoz.. such a "fair" lotus tat i nv seem b4 outside haha

angeline,
u can buy Baby Yopliat Yogurt.. dono isit the correct spelling..

Nining: Guess different babies are different. However, the advise given by everyone I know is not to put any salt or other forms of seasoning into baby's food...let it taste natural.

angeline,
think you should start with plain so bb is less used to sweetened items..otherwise may reject bland items in the future, whihc are generally healthier..

nining,
gosh i wish i had your problem!!
happy.gif
would be lovely to see yee heng gobbling it all donw for once! think i'm being slightly overanxious about his lack of interest in food..the irony is tat hubs and I are both much TOO interested!! hehe!

chatty,
good point! was hoping to tempt his tastebuds a lil, since he pretty much lost his appetite for solids all of last week when he was ill...he does seem to like strong flavoured things tho, at least he did when i introduced them! he liked his pureed pumpkin and sweet potato when they were introduced independently without any rice porridge, but even then he only took about 2 ice cubes worth..

Hi all,

Now, is everyone talking abt giving bb yogurt?? Yah, it's abt time introduce yogurt. So, Yopliat bb yogurt huh, will go check it out. Which supermkt is selling this, NTUC, cold storage?

nining, wish I hve the same problem as you, hving a bb gobbling down his food. Aidan is eating his food, but not alot though. Trying my very best to find ways to make his food tastier without hving to add in salt and seasoning. But noticed that he likes his porridge with any purees in it, but if it's plain, then he'll just take a few spoonful that's all.

Btw, hve tried pumpkin, carrots, potatoes, spinach, sweet potatoes, broccoli. Any other we can introduce? Can I give him cauliflower alrdy? Also, meat, can we give them pork/chicken purees alrdy? I know we can give them fish now, but not too sure abt other meat. Just want to make sure I cover everything, don't want him to be so picky like his mummy...ke..ke...

chatty, we are using the same blender, just wondering if you hve the same problem as me, it seems like no matter how long I blend the food, there's still small bits of chunks within the purees, and many times, Aidan almost got choked.

Lilyn: 2 cubes worth is a lot...James now takes 4 scoops of rice cereal mixed with 1 cube of pureed vegetable, and about 2 spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt. Sometimes, we add in half an egg yolk, or flavour with the juice from freshly steamed pork.

Chatty, Lilyn & an_gal,

Thanks!
Seems like have to wait till i travel to town den can buy yogurt for my boy liao!
happy.gif

How much to give them for per serving?

Muddypie: I introduced Cauliflower 3 weeks ago. We're starting on Fish porridge this week. I know what you mean, my mum has the same problem with the Petite Terraillon blender, but she solves this problem by adding more water. The Roman mini food processor that I have at home is better. I bought that from Watsons for less than $30 a few years ago.

Okay, so I'll try to add more water. Yah, I'm going to get another blender frm my mum. Thought I better hve another one for blending meat stuff. Yah, am planning to give him fish this week too.

angeline,
i tink is depending on hw much ur boy can take, but to me, 1 pack like alot.. most likely i will finish the rest for him hehe

muddypie,
i already started giving Melcolm minced chicken drumstick, pork not yet but oni use it to boil with porridge to get the taste..

Hi all

as i read, i realised most babies are like my boy. having fever. Brought him to PD on saturday and went home with lots of medicine. Poor baby screaming and crying so pathetically when we had to feed him medicine using syringe. Then the next day i decided to feed him using spoon instead of syringe and he looks ok with it. Maybe you all can try that also? Son's fever was up to 38.3 degrees on saturday. His nose is so congested with mucus, his coughing with lots of phlegms and running a temperature - it's really not easy to tend to a sick baby - he was crying and crying and so..cranky!

Wondering do u bath ur bb when he/she is sick??? My mum sure willl scold me if she knows i brought bb to shopping, wear sleevless top, bathing and sleep in air-con room.....

Thx lilyn!!!
