Toking abt wandering toddler .. Now jboy does not want to be carry, and does not want to be hold (hand). All he wants is to walk on his own. Yday we brot him together shopping wif us to Ikea, Sim siang choon and than Expo JL sales. He was like a mega destroyer. touching n pulling things, n in ikea, he even took e foto frame n start hitting the floor wif it. and if we carry him away, he will throw tantrum n throw himself back down. Until I had to carry him to one corner & whack him there. Cried cried awhile, dan stop n maybe tire from the crying, finally allow us to carry him n walk .. wat a nitemare !!

Hi Meddy

just to share with u - my girl has not been gaining much weight since she was 9th month old. she has been 8kg plus for the longest time ever. but she only hit 9 kg like a week ago - wh is 3 times her birth weight. she has been eating healthily so the PD we saw earlier said it's coz she's too active, that's why she's not gaining much weight.

However, when i saw another PD recently when my girl was sick, the PD said my girl was in the 5th percentile so prescribed Pediasure for her as it has more calories. she was supposed to drink it only at nite. but pediasure is very sweet and my girl hates it - she pukes even just by drinking a little bit of it. so i've stopped.

but i've started adding more stuff to her porridge eg. sweet potato/pumpkin/carrot with beef/fish/pork, eggs etc. and fruits as well.

maybe u can try giving your girl steamed sweet potato mixed with milk? sweet potato is sweet so maybe she'll like it. or the pigeon baby cookies? it comes in spinach and pumpkin flavours.

hopefully it will help.

SD,
hehe...well, I've read that sometimes bbs are shocked by the independence and get sticky suddenly because they're nearing a new milestone.

But ya, teething sucks big time.

Meddy,
guess you should know best lor...as for me, I'll ask the PD again. J brought me a childcare book and since it was there, I flipped to look at the growth charts...and then I realised (based on our estimation) while J's still in the 95th percentile for height, he has dropped to the 50th percentile for weight...he just doesn't eat very much lor...

Hi Min

my girl's weight was hovering around 8.3-8.7kg and when she fell sick for a week, she lost more weight. so it was really a pleasant surprise when she hit 9kg last week - altho actually, i was secretly wondering if the weighing machine at the PD was faulty. coz since she fell sick, she has skipped one feed - milk before she goes to bed.

but i realised diff PDs see this weight thing differently. all 3 PDs we saw had diff views.
but my hubby told me not to worry coz' as long as our girl is eating well then it's ok.

Dlim,
chips?

think I posted the recipe here before...if not and you're interested, let me know.

Plus, when Jesse's having a food strike, I try to entice him with fish & pasta with scrambled eggs (cooked with a little butter). It does the trick with Jesse.

And of course he loves bread with peanut butter or even the simple banana (we mix with a bit of instant rice/mixed grain cereal for the fortified nutrients).

Today, I gave him some grilled eggplant with his porridge and he loved it.

And at least for now, I still have jarred foods to fall back on, he still loves it for some strange reason. Again, I mixed in a little rice/mixed grain cereal for the fortified nutrients.

Mummies with teething babies - good luck :p my gal has finish sprouting her top canines and first molars, only the bottom ones (first molars and canines) are pushing through ...

Just give them something to gnaw at, my pigeon step 1 and 2 very handy!

Blueroti/D,
Think i will have to consult the pd during her next visit ah. but for now just feed as many spoonfuls as possible and supplement with milk and crackers

Dlim: tried potato patties? mashed up potatoes with veggies and meat, and then u can pan fry it lightly after u mix in a egg to the mixture.

If allergic to eggs, omit the egg and mix in water and flour (act as a binding agent).

Mrs Lai,
if just give the potato patties, sufficient for a meal?

Actually whats the amount that a 15mnth old toddler must take? My MIL says my 23mnth old niece only eats a "miso soup bowl full" of porridge for each meal..

Dlim,

oh, it's nothing too fancy...

-just wash and cut up potatoes into six from each potato
-coat with a little cooking oil (I used extra virgin olive oil)
-bake them for about 30 minutes in 200C oven. I used toaster oven (since I don't make many) and I don't even flip them (one side more brown then the other but it doesn't bother us)
happy.gif

That's it.

As for peanut butter (and all new foods) remember to try it in the mornings (and on weekends) in case of allergies. If your family doesn't have a history of it, it should be fine. For Jesse, he has his own tub of creamy peanut butter since the chunky ones may be a choking hazard and peanuts can't be broken down by enzymes (and whatever else that aids digestion) so it's just going to stay stuck there.... spread just a thin layer to start with. We use wholewheat bread but just this weekend, Jesse had some from a little girl who had her's on white bread and with butter!

Meddy,
I think each child has different appetite lah...

Anyway, Mrs Lai's potato patties sound well-rounded. haha. It has meat (protein), veg (fiber), potato (nutritious stuff) and egg (more protein and goodness)
happy.gif

Think of it as a less meat-heavy shepherd's pie

Dlim,
you can try cream cheese (Kiri) or Cube cheese (that famous Cow brand) on bread too. I spread it with a thin layer of peanut butter on bread.
