i so happy tt when my baby wore the Thomson Baby clothing (same as wat ur son is wearing) yesterday, it looked small on him!

i am so happy coz it means he is GROWING! Yay!

i seldom swaddle my boy anymore except tt my CL does when he sleeps wif her at nite since he jerks alot. so by swaddling him, he sleeps "safer" & longer.

like ur observations, i observed he will jerk easily when he is not swaddled. guess its pretty common.

glad to hear tt ur milk supply is steadily increasing. i hv been pumping the last 1 wk and realised supply will steadily increase too. i broke my own record this morning by pumping 230ml. think there is still somemore to empty my breasts but i stopped coz the btl is gonna b filled up. same as u, each time i pump, juz wondering if supply will increase.

my boy cord falls off on day 6. Now day 7, im pumping out breastmilk for my boy but tink supply still not enough only 50ml for half hr pump....may i know hw much milk shld my bb be drinking? every 3 hr have to pump is it? me using medela electric pump.

Hi Mummies,
wanna share sthg with all.
My baby was admitted bk to hospital when he was 4 days old cos of frequent poo n jandice.
Stool test tested positive for microsopic occult blood-blood in poo.
Doc suggests to change to soymilk n saying that it's highly cow's milk allergy that caused the blood.
Hence bb was on soymilk n again his stool was sent for a test.
This time round, it was clear of blood n we continused on soy formula.

The day before, his stool started to get real watery n ytd afternn we realised that his stool got blood agn.
We rushed him into Mt A n see his doc agn.
This time round, his stool gotta be tested agn
n now he's suspected to be lactose intolerant.
Now gotta wait for his stool result agn.
This is ultra distressing thinking abt bb's poo n blood...

Baby's suspected of lactose intolerant n is on Alfare- special formula. exceptionally costly
$35 - 400gm / can
Sighz...

Right now there are 3 cans of Enfaclac HA -
2 half open n 1 totally new
we bought 2 when we discharged fr hospital n one complimentary fr hospital.

Any babies on enfaclac HA?
I will like to probably give away the open ones...

few things to check with you all.

1. does your bb vomit out milk frequently? my boy sometimes 30min or 1hr after the feed can vomit out milk bit by bit till like vomit out half of the feed. and it usually happens after the 10pm feed.

2. how long does your bb stays awake? i notice he starting to stay awake longer and more often. CL said it's normal but i'm not too sure. just like this morning, after his feed at 7am he stayed awake till 11am. sometimes, same thing will happen in the afternoon and around mid-night. i thot new born bbs sleeps alot???

3. does your bb make noises while sleeping?

Actually hor, I din really swaddle Jaslyn. Maybe you wanna put the beansprout pillow on Celeb's tummy area?
Yes, stress really affect ss. Now, I stretch my pumping hr to 4hrly since starting of this week. I intend to stretch till 6hrly before I return to work (easier for work also). Jaslyn is on partial EBM and supplement with FM cos my ss can't meet her demands. I dun pump at nite cos Grace from Parentcraft at TMC told us to rest instead of pumping at nite. She said the last pump at nite should be around 10 to 11pm and 1st pump should be around 6 to 6.30am. She said we should rest at nite cos no rest = no milk.

You may wanna cut short your pumping from 30 mins to 20 mins, then slowly to 15 mins. Grace from Parentcraft at TMC advise pumping should be around 15 mins max cos we need to rest our nipples. You dun want a sore/cracked/bleeding nipples cos breast pump as we all know are made of plastic. There's friction which will cause sore/cracked/bleeding nipples.

Oh dear, so how's bb now? Are you still pumping? If so, give bb EMB first.

1) Is normal for bb to spilt out some milk. Your vomit refers to which kind of vomit? If is those very jia lat kind, then see doctor. You try to burp him more often. Dun worry.
2) As bb grows older, bb will tends to stay more awake. Is normal. Usually 1st 2 weeks bbs tend to sleep longer. However, individual bb's sleeping pattern is different.
3) Which type of noise are you referring to? Sometimes bb will cry in sleep. For elders, they said is the "zhuang mu" playing with them, 1) bb lost, so they cry; 2) bb naughty, so "zhuang mu" beat bb.

like what jenny said, u can reestablish your milk ss and supplement with FM if there's not enough. i've got a friend whose son is also allergic to cow's milk and got blood in his poo also. but thankfully by the time she realised, she bf him for more than 6 mths. In the end, he took rice milk instead.

did u burp your bb? My gal throws up milk quite frequently too if i don't burp her properly cos she is very small but her milk intake is quite a lot so i guess she overdrank. But if your bb vomits very often even after proper burping, perhaps you want to check with the PD cos some bb tend to have reflux problem.

I dun swaddle my bb at all ever since I brought him home just use the beansprout pillow on him only and he's okie.
Yay very happy hor finally finish with the 1st month things and confinement. My mum wanted me to continue confinment at least 30days but I hackcare liao.....hehehe

We told my mil dun need to come and cook for me already. Then nextday she want to come my hse cos she say she miss baby. Wah lao wat if she does that everyday. Really regret buying hse in the same blk as them.

noted, but I do not think I have extra wind cos I keep on passing air frequent, like every hr and very loud and smelly, lucky I am always at home.

After second birth, I will take 10 session. planning to conceive in Jan/Feb08 so should be October 2008 give birth. give my womb 18mths rest.

Nite pump:
I never pump milk at night. The last pump is 10pm and the first pump is 7-8am. I pump every 4hrs and 4 times per day. each pump abt 100ml to 120ml now for abt 15min-20min. now baby taking EBM and FM.

My 1st SIL hor, after giving 4 years then did post natal massage **faint** cos hor, she saw my 2nd SIL did after her delivery last Dec.
I poo more than twice a day and each pooing session a lot of output hahaha... I'm still taking my confinement food until next Sat when the CL leaves.

dun apply XO wor... if you wanna apply, apply a drop of olive oil. My massage lady said good for bb with little hair or no hair.
My gal ah, I'm going to shave her hair on her full mth. Very "bu she de" cos she got thick hair and is getting long now. But no choice lah, I rather her to be botak now, if not when she reaches 4 mths old which is CNY period, then shave, I more "bu she de"

will monitor him awhile more then see how. some times i do suspect it is due to not burping him properly. the sound he makes is not b'cos he is freightened. dont really know how to describe it, it sounds more like those sounds make by little puppy!

i can understand how u feel. my in-laws come v often also, esp now with the bb. that day i just had a small conflict with my MIL cos my bb refused to sleep after taking 70ml of EBM. in less than an hr he started opening his mouth asking for milk. my MIL wanted me to feed him again but i refused cos i ganna once false signal from him and in the end he vomited all out. she kept repeating that and i just said no till my bb cried then i gave it to him. so, i'm glad that i'm taking care of the bb myself but it would also mean super tiring.

bb's skin is so sensitive, better not apply XO.

1. i try to burp my boy so that he dun vomit milk, but sometimes if the burping not done properly sometimes he does vomit a bit so we always let him lay sideways so that he will not be choked

2. From pregnancy my boy tends to be more active at nite with eyes wide open and sleep more in the day,.......so no choice haha but i play classical music to help him get to sleep

3. Ya...tink quite normal, they got lots of expressions too

I'm going to shave my gal's hair on her full mth. Dun want to wait till 4 mths old. By then is CNY period liao leh and after 4 mths, I sure can't bear to shave the hair one. I dunno is it hokkien tradition or what, shaving of hair can be done on full mth or at 4th mth. Both are ok one. I prefer earlier cos by age of 1, hair will be grown out longer (in time for 1st birthday party hahaha...)

Haven't login here for long time. I've given birth on 12th Oct, natural without epidural. Took ~15 mins from water bag burst to delivery in 2 pushes. Hmm..mayb the coconut juice did help. Delivery was smooth and hubby said wasn't bloody.

Now hubby doing confinement for me and we r both looking after baby. Very busy and tired. Everyday needs to change at least 20 nappies..*Faint*

Dun worry. My baby's umbilical cord dropped off on the 6th day. PD said normally umbilical cord will drop off in 2 weeks' time.

congrat janice for ur neworn and smooth delivery. I also find coconut juice help cos I have a smooth birth w/o epidural. I have coconut juice very often during last stage and baby have no jaundice.
normally giving birth is not bloody, baby come out also quite clean.

jenny, how do u shave baby hair, do u engage simeone else or DIY.during full mth, my CL help me cut a shape only and as my baby have a lot of hair, I do not want her to be botak.
is it true if we don't shave all her hair, her hair will also drop during 4th mth.

i read from books that if you continue pumping, you can get the ss back, just don't give up. since u hv not stopped for v long, why dont u resume now. if u r afraid that the milk is unsafe for bb to consume, just pump out and discard it.

to those mummies who have finished their confinment, congrats! me still got around 2 more wks to go (me 40 days). these 2 days still bearable, cos the weather is much cooler cos of the rain.

i did swaddle my gal, but my gal getting naughtier. 1st 2 wks, she still ok. but now she wants to be carried and worse still, she wants us to walk around and till when she's in deep sleep then we can put her down. she also got the beansprout pillow. nowadays she does not sleep as long compared to first 2 wks. she will wake up around 1 hr plus later... anyone faces this problem too?

cramp in legs

i been having cramps in my legs when i stretch them during sleeping. i dont really suffer from much cramps during pregnancy. anyone having this symptom?

i did not drink a lot of coconut juice, only 4 coconuts a few days before i deliver and my girl does not have jaundice too. So coconut juice may not help.

pull hip bone? how does she do it? i dont think she pull mine.she only massage and when she massage my tummy, ouch! she keep on telling me to relax but me too pain to relaxed.... does she really did an exact 1 hr massage with u? i realised that after the 1st session she did about 35 - 40 mins with me for the rest of the sessions.

I do not have any leg cramps after giving birth.But during pregnancy, my leg cramps is painful.

guess for ur case, u need lot of rest for MS to increase. why not try to let baby sleep with CL so u can relax more and have a good rest at night. Just like selina case, her MS increase when she is not stress.

same as u, i realised my bb dun sleep as well as compared to the 1st 2 wks. he fusses quite alot in the day. and likes to b rocked in the bouncer, and falls asleep when he is being carried. once u put him down, his eyes open big big.

my CL says its normal 4 babies to develope different sleeping habits aft 2 wks as they r older liao.

i'm still swaddling my bb. he also sometimes will stay awake for more than an hr and can be a few times in a day. his highest record was he woke up at 7am plus and went back to sleep at abt 12 noon.

it is goat rue. if u really want to try it, get it from Vitalkids at Forum. I tired to get it from TMC last Sat but out of stock. today is the 3rd day i'm taking it liao, but ss like no difference, will give it a few more days to see how. i v relax leh, let CL handles bb most of the time during the day and bb sleeps with her at night. only thing is that i hardly latch him on cos timing difference between him asking for milk and my pumping time. think i really hv low milk ss.

do u response to your bb's cry all the time and immediately? For me, i just observe what he wants first. I will only carry him while feeding or if he is really cranky. i'll quickly put him back to his cot once finished feeding or he stops crying. even then, i feel that he now starting to want to be carried. like what wei kuan said, need to train him to be independent so that he can adapt to the infant centre fast.

Got a question for mummies who pumped their milk, izzit necessary to do the pumping during the same time everyday? I try to do it @ least every 4 hrs but the timing differs every day.

My supply very irregular, average 60ml per pump, 1st pump in the morn only abt 100ml. My boy is already 14 days old, is my supply very pathetic?

Cos I also bath n shampoo as normal during confinement.
Now going to buy a good carrier so I can bring my bb out shopping by myself...hehe

We never shave my boy dun intend to jus yisiyisi cut a bit only. His hair very little only but okie lah cos boy mah...hehe

I latch on my boy all day n night every 2-3 hrs too but 1 of the day feeds I bottle feed with EBM so i know hw much he is drinking. So after I bottle feed him I will pump n store for next day feed. Sometimes when he only drink from 1 side I will pump the other side or I feel my breast very full I will quickly pump out before his next feed n freeze.

Like to share something heartwarming.
Jus saw the video my hubby took of bb immediately after he was born. He was crying n when hubby call his name he stopped crying n open his eyes to peek at daddy. I was so surprised cos I didn't know that was wat made him stop crying. They really remember our voices!!

Everytime I see the clip I will want to cry cos feel very touched.....haha

Talk abt pathetic MS. I can now only pump 15ml. Was pumping 30-40ml, now goes down and down. And I can't even get a drop if I don't do tandem pumping. So everytime I try to pump when I latch on, yet sucking one side is not enuf for my gal. Feeling so desperate.

Coolcoolmum, how much can you pump? At least you can pump without latching on. I can't Everytime I try to pump when my gal is not lactched on and my breasts are very full, I still can't get a drop. I only have let down when sh'es latched on.

Those mum who are breast feeding, how do you manage to let CL take care of bb? Don't you need to latch on at night? My bb is with me 24hrs, so wondr why I get a CL.

my MS also v pathetic. nowadays my first morning pump is slightly better, can get abt 50-70ml (fr both breasts). even i feel damn painful till i can't sleep, that's the max i can get fr 30-45min pumping. other parts of the day i can only get 30-45ml. i hv also tried latching him on on one side and pumping the other one. usually my last pump is around 10pm to mid-night.

do u massage before u pump? maybe u can try pumping with more gentle suction then slowly increase it. i find sometimes it helps cos nipple not so painful.

i noticed my boy v fussy, he is only willing to latch on after i pump out the foremilk. sometimes i'll give him the "fresh" EBM after that. jus curious, how long can we keep EBM at room temp?

so far i still can't feel any let-down even nor any difference in my MS after he suckle for 20min or more on both side. how long after bb suckle do u get the let-down reflex?

for those mummies usung single pump, do u keep alternating between the 2 breasts or only alternate after 15-20min?

You may let CL take care in the nite, when bb wans to latch n feed, then she will carry the bb to u. after that carry back to her....in this case, u would only need to feed and latch....whereas other needs CL would tend to the bb....giving u more rest....cos not oni bb needs to feed in the nite...breastfed bb tends to poo also in the nite....and then some bb will regurgitate alot...CL can tend to such needs.

Coconut helps to prevent jaundice? PD told us that it's normal for bb to b abit jaundice in the first month. After that, will clear. My baby's jaundice level was 9.6. First few days, she was abit yellow. now ok.

U mentioned that taomaobi? We were checking out at TMC when being approached by the sales person. They selling insurance for baby too.

Pumping BM
recently for the past 1 wk + i am trying to increase my supply, thus i will pump aft latching on but i found the supply to b real pathetic like getting only 30-60ml each time fr both breasts. i was oso v discouraged but i refused to give up.

then at 1 point in time, one of my nipple was sore, so i had to stop latching on tt side and cld only pump to prevent engorgement. this was a kickstart to build up my supply. so aft latching on the breast tt wasnt sore, i pumped the sore side. managed to get abt 80ml. and aft 2-3 hrs when baby is hungry again, i gave him the same breast tt he fed on earlier and pumped the sore side. repeated this until my sore nipple got better, and at the same time, i had build up my stock. however at times when my bb wasnt full enuff, i wld warm up some EBM to fill him up. oso i asked my CL to cook me more soup, be it fish soup or black bean soup (i heard green papaya soup causes serious engorgement thus din dare to drink yet) and i kept tanking up on hot drinks like milo & milk. i saw results. by the time my sore nipple got well, i alrdy had more than enuff storage in my fridge and usually will b discarded aft 48 hrs. so in order to minimize wastage, i let my baby drink EBM twice a day, so daddy can bond wif my baby too.

perhaps u ladies can try this. i latched my baby on 3 times for nite feeds. and the 1st feed when dawn breaks, my CL will feed him EBM while i will sleep till 8+ or 9+am, then i will pump fr both breasts. yest was my record breaking... 230ml fr both breasts in 20 mins. i stopped as the btl was abt to b filled up alrdy. coz aft gd rest, usually supply will b bountiful, esp in the morning. so u ladies can make use of this. hope it helps. but dun expect it to work overnight, u need to some preparation work like me as mentioned above to build up supply. good luck!

yes i noticed the same thing in the labour ward. my baby was wailing non-stop and when he was brought to a corner to clean up and still wailing, i called out to him fr my bed though i cld not see him and immed he stopped for a moment, listening to the familiar voice. yes, its indeed heartwarming tt they recognise our voices. and i realised the tai jiao did work!

im at day 7 , my MS is abt 50 ml for 20 min pump now, i let bb latch on during day time and pump out before i slp ard 10-11pm , then wake up ard 2-3am to pump out again. Now sometimes i feel engorged after 2 hr interval, my CL cook papaya fish soup for me, hope that supply can go up too

i try to massage and use warm towel to put on breast before pumping, im using single pump so after i pump one side, looks like not much milk already (abt 10 min) i switch to another breast

dun give up! my supply was oso pathetic aft latching on initially when i pumped. but drink more water and stay relax. most impt muz hv enuff rest! i dun pump each time aft latching on anymore as i dun need the extra EBM but i think i can still get 80ml aft latching on at one of the sessions yesterday. dun let ur CL stress u until ur supply dwindles. u can do it. last resort, pls seek lactation consultant's help b4 its too late.

For info, i usually pump b4 i sleep and in the morning when i wake up.

I also have this finger pain during pregnancy, but after give birth liao, no more pain. maybe u have to wait for a few more weeks. It is due to water retention. Not really coconut will not cause jaundice, just coincidence a few of us take more coconut and baby did not have.

coral, CL is not cheap so just tell her do what she should be doing.I let my baby sleep with her so I can have more rest. during confinement, CL will feed baby with EBM or FM and I rest till 28days. Now sometimes I let her latch cos she sleep with me after CL went back.
so the 1mth is very very impt, must have enough rest.JIA YOU! U CAN DO IT! DON'T GIVE UP!
