(2006/07) JULY 2006 MTB

Misaryeo,
my mother also cook gan bei & fish for my BB... a little soya sauce for taste only. At first I also worried too salty but i tasted myself it is nt at all. The Gan bei is for the porridge to taste nicer, she never feed BB Gan Bei cos she scare BB don't know how to eat.
Our Mother & MIL,
surely have certain experience in taking care of BB if not how we and our HB grow up strong..
happy.gif

Oops hope don't offend anyone...

Sandy, that's true also..

but i thot cannot introduce fish yet till 1 yr old? n should not put soya sauce cos might be afraid too much for their liver? Sometimes, we dun taste the saltish cos we so use to it already... anyway, bb also dunno.. and somemore my boy quite glutton de.. the cereal so bland he still happily eat it. that's why i think not necessary to add.

misaryeo
Fish is fine for infants. It's shellfish one ahs to be careful with. In fact, fish is very good. This is info straight from my midwife and she's been one for many years. Dylan's been having fish for a couple of weeks and he loves it. My sis and I were fed fish everyday and we're trong and healthy.

I think cannot give seasoning till 1 yrs old, cause their kidney havent mature that wat my PD told me..: ) But i start her on threadfish since 6mth, so far so good...

misaryeo, i think i same pattern w u... my mil oso like that, v.concerned over us (but i take it she's over concerned, like we r still 3 yrs old), like have we eaten, buy food for us, give us things for our home, etc... but she haven't suggest cooking for charlene...

reunion dinner: came to think of it i shld b angry --> that night when i reach mil's place, charlene feel aslp in the carseat, when i carried her out, she opened her eyes, so i thot of patting her back to slp, then i was standing at e door. my sil came to ask me if i wanna go in, then i js replied i pat her back to slp first (cos i know that when there's too many ppl, she would not want to slp), then she kept asking me to go in, i kept replying "wait...", u know what, she said that i'm "guai ren" strange person... that charlene doesn't want to close her eyes, so i went in... who knows my sil went back to the dining table n complain that i'm guai ren n said something nasty abt me... js nice i walked in n overheard she complaining... worst of all, my hb was sitting at the dining table kept quietly listening n never say a word like ask her to keep quiet... as his wife, he can let ppl anyhow say his wife, i'm so angry... have been thinking for these few days "have i married the wrong husband who can't even protect his wife??"

Misaryeo,
I am a person who don't like salty food so if can passed my mouth mean not salty just got some fragance. My HB or who ever taste my food before all complain it is bland...lol
Eeyore,
I can understand your situation.. my HB also like that but if you put yourself in his shoes. He really cannot do much cos the mouth from your SIL and others faster than he can reply. He also difficult position. Man will perfer to ZIPPP to save trouble.

misaryeo,
Julian started with Ngor fish. My MIL will cook together for both kids and feed Julian just fish cos she find it hard to feed Julian porriage now, which i do agree with her.

My ger, Janelle started taking fish from 7 months till now. Fish is brain food, very gd for kids.

Soya Sauce - suppose to be no no now lah.

Can u all imagine my MIL feed Julian Love letter?? Contain egg right. I just closed one eye. I even have this concern during Janelle time. I even asked my PD and he told me if the kid is super allergy to egg. A tiny amt of egg by product will trigger it. If wasnt, then shld be ok, just leave it.

So I am test my boy now, sorry my MIL. arghhhhh.
i already told her not to feed but she still did. SO i just leave it, if Julian got allergy then i am going to point my finger at her. She dun listen to me then his grandson got to suffer.

eeyore,
did u bring up ur concern to ur hubby? May be just bring it up lightly but not to catch a fight with him. It is gd to tell him so he knows u mind.

Zoe,
u feeding threadfin to Dylan now?

thks.. so i can actually feed him fish.. cos i was wondering if no fish then where does the protein comes from? wat abt meat? and ganbei is considered shell fish?

eeyore, i agree wif sandy.. maybe ur HB in diff position. and men prefer to keep quiet.

Hong,
my BB eat Wan Wan Xiao Man Tou. Got eggs also, so far nothing. Touch wood... But i don't let my mother feed eggs...
I give XUE Yu to BB and my mother say going to give frog leg when he turn 8 mth.
I learn to close my eyes for all the food she feed cos my mother used to baby-sit my God-sister. Now she is already 18, strong and beautiful...

i guess it looks like its ok to feed bb anything.. cos it really depends on whether ur bb can take it or not, hav allergy or not after eating.

btw wat is xue yu? english is call wat huh?

Ya what is Xue Yu in English.. I only know it is a white fish and is very expensive....

Agreed with Misaryeo.. let them eat anything but must look out for sign of allergy. If nt everyday urge with mother & MIL is so tiring. They will have their reasoning.

sandy, hong & misaryeo,

I did bring it up yesterday, he too said what can he say it's his sister... but i said mayb he can js ask her don't say too much... normally if my family said not so nice things abt him, i js ask them don't say too much lar, that's him what... it's his own family so he's the best position to tell them what to say n what not to...

Hi Mummies,
My gal reached 7mths already & I wanted to start introducing meat to her. How should I prepare meat? Just add into the porridge? For fish, also just add into porridge & cook?

thks yenny.. get it. does it means that now our bb cannot hav other types of fish? why only cod fish and threadfin?

eeyore.. i guess its just diff ways of handling bah.

Hi mummies,

I've also asked my mum not to put any seasoning into bb's food, not even soya sauce. Besides health reasons, I also dun want my bb to be accustomed to food with seasoning, in case she is too dependent on it next time.

Btw..there were some reports some weeks back on codfish which is high in some chemical contents? Becos of that, we have stopped codfish for now. My mum went to the wet market and verify with the fishmonger and the latter also could not be sure if the codfish sold will be harmful or not. So better be on the safe side lor.

Misaryeo,
Cod fish and threadfin is softer and fine so easier to swallow. Furthermore cod fish contain alot of fish oil which is gd in brain development.

U can still try other fish.

YB, try fish 1st. Other meat may still be tough for Kaylyn.

Misaryeo,
this two fish easy to digest and lesser bones....I also like this two fish.

Oh suddenly remember, if u don't wish BB have allergy to food. Try giving food one type (same) over a week or couple of days if no reaction then BB is ok with the food.
I think i really throw back my nutrition knowledge to my school already... now is fill with ACCA...haha

oh dear, i feel like such a lazy mommy compared to you all. So far, my kid is just eating rice cereal and occassionally some carrots and potato. Have not cooked any porridge for her yet though the PD said should try to let her taste some meat liao....sigh. Must start being more on.

Pm,
you bought diaper bag in BP ?? Is the bag nice and useful ?? I am looking for one that can back pack and of course cheap.. nt more than $50.00

MT, thanks for the thread on Earth's Best. I still have 2 bottles at home. Better go and check.

I've only used ngor fish so far. If you go to the wet market can tell the fishmonger to give you the part for baby, so its not too bitter.

As for meat, what I've done is to use the slow cooker and boil the pork/chicken then I just add it to the carrots/ potato/spinach for taste.

Mummies...

How many of u r showing flash cards to ur baby ah? I very tempted to start.... but.. dunno where or how to go about it. Shld go for course? Shld buy what book? Very confused.. n too headache to search archives. haha.. I see the June Mummies very on. Babies can do problem solving already (whatever that is la) .. but sound very impressive leh.. haha...

may
actually the report is abt some fishmonger selling 'fake' cod fish. The 'fake' cod fish cost half the price of real cod fish but they r actually oil fish which is not suitable for eating and they look a lot like cod fish. Infact some countries banned oil fish. The oil fish will cause diahrroea and passing out of oil and stomachache.

Cod fish and threadfin are usually used for baby porridge cos there r less bones. But they r more expensive lor.

Peach, go and borrow the book from Library. U may need some of the pages for reference. The book cost $30++. if u wanna own one, u can get it from Yahoo auction or ebay. ppls shld be selling it.

Hi Yenny,

Thanks for the clarification. Phew!!

Hi Peach,

I've been doing flashcards with my ger for six months already and I think she enjoys it. I dunno if my method is correct but I dun really care cos my ger is captivated by the picture and words. Now when I say the words without the cards, my ger will smile cos she knows I'm reading off from the flashcards. It's actually quite fun cos it keeps her attention focused as compared to moving images.

Yenny,
how do we know that the cod fish we bought is oil fish ??

By the way, any BB here got diarhea when tooth growing out...??

May,
where do u get flash card from ?? I also wanted to start. My boy watch Barney and "your baby can read" since 3 mth till now

Peach,
you can buy Barney from any shop that sell VCD. "Your Baby Can Read" , you can get from Robinson or Tang in their Children department.
I have Hi 5 also but it is more for sch children or Kidergarten ages. My father use it to play in his mini-sch bus to keep the kids quiet and Good.. haha

Egg yolk is supposed to be fine for babies. It's egg white that allergies arise from.

Sources of protein.
Toufu is one. Dylan has that sometimes with his porridge. Lentils are another. Goes well with pumpkin or squash. Cheese, D loves with veg like cauliflower, broccoli...

Hong,
Yes, Dylan's on threadfin. He has porridge cooked with lean pork for flavour and threadfin added just before his mealtime.

Gymboree Trial
Dylan loved it. He paid such close attention to everything. He especially loved the 'teacher''s great singing and melodic voice. In the last 5 min he fussed a little cos he was tired but he was alright the minute I picked him up.

hi gals... just back from gymboree trial.
happy.gif

Nice meeting up with Zoe and Dylan.

Fish - I also started feeding fish at abt 6mths. using Ngor he aka threadfin rite? :p
then last week, infantcare fed chicken porridge to bb too. he is ok so far.
happy.gif

Seasoning - i also believe not to put any seasoning. best to be safe then sorry. anyway, dun think bb noes what is salty yet. the natural taste of fish/meat/veg shd be good enough.

Peach - I also hv been doing flashcards for my boy. I have a PDF file on one of the Glen Doman book. I can email to u. For the rest of the books, i borrow from library. I also dunno if I am doing it correctly, but more for "fun" for my boy. one of those things that i use to "entertain" him. :p

u can go to http://www.sgparenting.com/ to learn more. there is a video clip on a 7mths old gal doing problem solving.
happy.gif

I never try doing any problem solving. I just believe in inputing now. and also not v consisent... so it's v stressfree.

Hi peach and sandy,

My flashcards are from this shop at Suntec, near Toysrus call 'Growing Fun' or something. There is one outlet at Paragon too. But frankly, there are some considerations u need to bear in mind when u bear flashcards; no sharp edges (prefer round edge and the pictures should be more real ..some drawings really 'kena-sai' - cannot make it. The one I got has sharp corners so quite dangerous when bb wants to hold it.

I love the "my bb can read' vcd too. I think it's good!

Peach,
famous book from Glenn Doman...

May, do i spell the author name correctly?

Zoe,
how do u cook lentils? Just add into the pumpkin? Goes together with porriage?
Can they take cheese now? Pretty salty to me.

Hi Hong and MTDT,

I think that's the spelling for GD..but I've not read his stuff though..Heheh..i use my own method.

but this morning, I read Hong's comments on her ger attending BJG and her sharp memory really got me interested. So I went to the website for BJG and realise that their two outlets, orchid country club and bukit 'something' too far for me. Any other outlets u know of?

MTDT, agreed. am trying to find out more about those flashcards cos i'm really running out of ideas to entertain my girl. haha.. everytime play with the same toys.. she's quite bored already. yupyup.. send to me bah.. thanks =)

haha. btw. cute pic... pullllling the shirt eh.. gangster =P

will pop by popular bookshop to see if got flashcards there or not on my way home later...

May,
