(2006/07) JULY 2006 MTB

hello mummies

RE,flashcards
my boy enjoy looking the card and also like to snatching the card,I start doing it since he is 1mth old, my method is very simple

1.pick a time when your baby is quiet and alert

2.make eye contact and call him/her by his/her name

3.Show him/her the flashcards one by one.pointing out the different shapes and colours.

4.during first 2 years of growing up ,you can introduce ABC,number and simple world

most I borrow the flashcards from library and make myself

nite-gal - ok ok.. see if u r able to sit in.

Gymboree - yes it's confirm.
Rem to bring ur socks.
Anything can call Natasha at 63834662.
It's located at the coffee bean building. it's a big area. so actually daddies can stand ard n see then help out during the obstacle course.

flashcards - yes, Zav also starting to get v mobile. so diffcult to flash liao. and I must admit, i am also not fast enough. if fast, will drop cards... worst! :p

Hi Mummies,
thanks for sharing about flashcards n all. was reading the sgparenting.com looks interesting leh the GD & Shichida method. Shichida is in chinese issit? From what I read in the forum... looks very chinese-oriented. But I really fancy the ESP part.. haa.. imagine my girl with ESP.. n photomemory. i wish i had those too man.

As for the Gymboree thingy. MTDT said can have up to 12 pple rite?... so add in Lucida & my name la.. Need to go back n convince hubby to drive me over.. 45 mins not too long. Think Kristen can tahan. hehe.

any mummies who has baby signing times here? (yesyes, i'm getting ambitious here)

peach - hahaha... so many programs line up huh?

Shichida - is by a Japaneses. but all his books are translated to Chinese only. I also super lousy in reading in chinese. so havent read any of his books yet. :p

bb signing times - this i am not interested. :p

Peach,
Popular got sell Baby Sign book.. teach how to sign Hug, Papa , Mama, eat, hungry , sad etc.. total 2 seperate book.
I teach my BB sign but he seem to have his own way of signing to us..lol

MTDT, hahaha YAH lor! this is a guilty mummy speaking. haha. I feel like a super boring mummy who not diligent in "feeding" my girl with as much knowledge when she's most willing to learn now. Always play with her toys n let her crawl around, otherwise it's bring her for a walk to look at scenery.

Shichida in Chinese only ah. wah. my chinese is super lousy also. dun think i will consider. what a waste. wish my chinese is powerful then my girl can have ESP. hahaa. i really amused by the ESP n photomemory leh. imagine all the kids who have shichida training.. next time take exam sure have one-up against my girl. they can memorise all the textbook.. can ESP out the questions of the exam. SIAN.

Sandy, hee.. my girl has a cute verbal sign when she sees something she wants/needs (bottle-milk/my breasts) hahahaa.. she will whimper whimper whimper anxiously almost like crying and reach out her hands. not applicable to toys though, that one she just shrieks.

PM,
Kaylyn visits GP for her immunisations & the GP was very reluctant to give her cough medication cos it'll make her sleepy. Luckily, my gal recovered from her cough soon after tat.

Peach,
I have Baby Signing Times Vol 1 & 2. So far, have taught my gal the sign language for milk cos I only started recently. But very amazed tat my gal will recognise the sign & kick excitedly when she knows it's time to drink milk. I like the songs too cos it's very catchy.

what is ESP ??
My Chinese can make it but not my husband... he is both biligual lousy. One thing he is good is when he rebuke, he is very power...
So when people say "hey your BB look like your HB ..." I say look alike can already, brain DON"T FOLLOW " haha

YB,
Where did ya get the signing times from? was looking online... costs 99 buckeroos, painful. Don't see it in the NLB catalogue either..

Sandy,
from what I've read so far in the forums, it's like the ability to know what is on the card without actually seeing the image on the card. erm. MTDT, correct me if i'm wrong. hehe.

Cough medication - ohhh.. my girl just got a stronger medication for her cough yesterday cos it has not healed since last friday. it does make her sleepy. she fell asleep very early last nite n when i was carrying her in the forward facing position. didn't notice she fell asleep until i peeped at her when i realised she was keeping very still n calm..

nitegal
The light blue bibs have yet to arrive. Hope you can wait a little while more. I'll let you know when I receive them. Sure we can meet for coffee. Where do you live?

Hi Sandy,

Can you let me know how to get to Gymboree @Serangoon Garden or do you have their webpage? I tried to find in internet but can't find the company website.

Thanks!

Hihi,

guess u mummies are very hardworking. I have not started any flash cards on Emerson yet... let alone Signing. Actually I dont really like signing, personal preference, coz I dont feel good making BB "sign" for something....

Emerson is coughing quite badly, vomitting phelgm... not too sure if I can make it this Sun. Of coz, I wanted to go badly...

lucida...i copied this from mdtd's post....for ur reference

Hey gals...

I just call Gymboree to confirm ur timing.

some info
1) there will be a registeration form to be fill on tat day
2) Parents - pls bring socks
3) Can also bring a blanket in case bb get cold.
4) only parent is allow during the class. however when we move to the equipment part, both parents can be around to help out.
5) instead of the magezine, you can also print out the free class on the website.

www.mumcentre.com.sg - retail&Service providers - go to gymboree, under events there is a one free class. then print that.

ok... so dun need to search for the mag! :p

Ladies,

I am from the June mummies thread. Went for the trial with MTDT yesterday. FYI, Parents to bring socks meaning the socks meant for the mummies/daddies. Location for the sch is at Serangoon Gdn where coffee bean located. There is a lift located near the ATM machine to level 3

Cheers

Peach,
My friend gave me the Baby Signing Times. It comes in Vol 1 & 2. VCD with music CD.

I think there's some BP in the forum. Mayb it's cheaper. Else, I remember there's a pushcart in United Sq selling them.

PM,
Actually waving goodbye is also a form of signing. Just tat they extend the signs to other words.

thks okipoki for ur info...hoope i can find the place..hehehee./..

mummies
do u all want to meet up earlier let's sat 430-445pm?? cos mtdt mentioned got to fill up registrtion form loh...then we all can warm up abit b4 going in,...hehehe

sandy - yes, i reminded them abt sun class. no worries.

thanks oki for the info..
yes, socks if the adults. babies dun need socks as it hinders their movement.

actually if there is no class before tat, u gals can just sit on the mat and chit chat. :p v v big area... i stayed at the plc for additional 30mins then leave. :p

if not, can meet at the coffee bean also can.
happy.gif

the lift - v difficult to find... it's near to the mama shop at the bank side.

Gymboree Play & Music
Venue: 9 Portchester Avenue #03-02 Serangoon Garden Village (above DBS/NTUC)
Tel: 6383 4662

incase really lost, can call them.
happy.gif

signing - actually true tat everyday we are using signs. but i also not keen in teaching baby more than the usual.

have a fren's kid tat end up dun wan to talk becos she can sign. then the PD have to instruct my fren that make sure the kid "say" out what she wants then give it to her. in the beginning, if the kid really dun wan to say, parents need to repeat the item name 3 times then give to her.

so after this incident, i dun really like signing.
happy.gif
but of cos i think there are many more good results from other kids.
happy.gif

peach - dun think bring bb out to garden and playing with baby with toys and letting her crawl ard is not good.

flashcards - yes, can train bb in certain aspect. but nothing beats seeing the real thing. wat's the use of keep flashing her "flowers" only. best to show her the real flower before and after flashcards mah.
happy.gif
so going to zoo or garden or birdpark are still impt.

playing with toys - jus as impt as kids learn thru toys too.

crawling ard - motor skills also v impt mah.
happy.gif

shicida - actually i also dunno alot of stuff abt SM. mainly only learn from other pple.

ESP - shicida believes tat our right brain can "guess" things very well. so with the right training, will be able to know what is on the card etc.

SM - i also very impressed with the Speed reading and the photomemory. if hv chance can go for their free preview on sat. they will show u a jap program. where the students "compete" with adults. aiyoh... show until they are really like supernatural beings. just flip a book can dictate out the passage from the book! faintz. :p

but as usual... same logic as GD. never have expectation when inputting to a child. no expectation then will hv no stress. if hv expectation, then the kid will feel stress and hv negative impact.

ya... ive got flashcards at home..bought them for nearing 100bucks when i had the twins. maths, eng, chi. showed that to them less than 10 times. haha. and havent showed anything to germayn. feel like setting aside sm time everyday to do that with them, but ive been reaching home from work at 10+ or sometimes 11+pm. and every morning, i'll be rushing like mad. gotta prepare the twins for sch (though my MIL does most of the preparation. haha), feed baby, carry baby (she knows now. crying will do her job to get herself more attn), pump milk...

germayn is still having runny nose. been like that for poss 2 weeks already. but i havent given her any medication since she seems to be used to it. doesnt seem to be posing any discomfort for her.

nite gal, you were the one who asked if i have submitted my resume isit? yup, i have, but my company is sending me for a course, so i gotta put everything on hold till end of april. im very keen in the course. think it'll refresh alot of my memory (basically forgot most i learnt in poly and uni), and the topics seem to be quite interesting. but im quite worried also. cos there is an EXAM!!! and i have to pass the exam. wonder how to study in a home with 3 kids.. ya..3 kids belonging to me.

MTDT,
Only 1 parent is allowed in the class? Was wondering if my hubby can sit-in too?

I do repeat the words when I sign to my gal. But bbs tend to pick up sign language 1st than words. Just like they would wave goodbye 1st then slowly learn to say 'goodbye'. I agree tat sign language should not b solely used for replacing words. It's just a means for young kids to express themselves better before they can speak.

Yes, I also agree seeing the real thing beats only seeing the pixs in flashcards. Was contemplating to teach my gal flashcards when she was 3mths old, but decided not to go ahead. Firstly, I'm a VERY lazy person. Heard hve to be diligent in flashing cards everyday to b effective. Secondly, prefers to let my gal see, touch, smell, taste the real thing as opposed to just pixs. But then, tat's only my personal opinion. I've known of many many cases where the child really benefited from flashcards. haa..haa..too bad my gal has a lazy mum...

Hb was off for a week so has been helping out wif all the feedings, bathing, & playing wif Kaylyn. This week has been like a mini-holiday for me cos I can sleep late till abt 1pm everyday. Hurray!! Cos hb says I've been working hard spring cleaning & taking care of Kaylyn while he was out of the country, so volunteered to take care of bb.hee...hee...think next wk very diff to start up my 'motor' liao...

YB

same with me,this week also mini holiday for me ,cuz my parent coming over, since new year eve they taking care my boy,day time I am able to go shopping alone,so many sale now he he

both my parent will stay in SG for 2 weeks, before they going back to tokyo

Wow. So many mothers waking up at "wee" hours.. It's been sometime since I last log in during such hours.. Nowadays I kind of not able to sleep thr the nights. My baby slept thr' the night tho'. Very worried about my health now.. I look very tired and haggard.. When I take pictures of myself, I can't bear to look at myself. My eyes look so tired and no energy. I look at least 5 years older than what I'm suppose to be.

Haiz..

Hi MTDT, Am glad that there's people here talking about flash cards and related stuff. I heard about flash cards from a friend that bought the set for GD baby. But I abit hesitant to buy as I'm not sure about it. During day time, my MIL take care of baby and she doesn't understand English. So not much opportunity to show baby such things.

But I'm interested to know more about those programmes and try it out if baby likes it. You mentioned there's a Shichida talk on Saturday is it? Where and when?

Gymboree - the plc is very big. during the "songs" time, think best to only hv 1 parent. (but daddy can still stand ard... take pics loh) once move onto the obstacle course, hubby shd be able to join in.

SM preview - http://www.shichidamethod.com/
I just saw on newspaper yesterday that there will be a preview this sat as well. but the website din update. maybe can call to find out more.

flashcards - i din buy any from GDBaby. v ex! haha my cards are mostly from BPs.

YB - certain things can see, touch, feel & taste... but certain things cannot leh! :p

planning to go Zoo on the 4th march!
happy.gif

maybe we can hv a gathering to the zoo uh! :p

Lucida, I completely empathize. I really look like shit nowadays. Last time b4 bb, still got time to go for facial, now only have time to put DIY mask at home (if i can even find the time).

MT- what time are you going to the zoo? i was thinking of planning a trip to the zoo some time in march. the last time i brought my son to the zoo, it was not too successful as it was v hot and he kept crying.

yenny - think u reach earlier to warm up?? the teachers sing v loudly. so alot of times kids will get a shock! :p

CL - huh... usu we will set off at abt 10+. after this morning nap. we went once on 1st Jan. He was busy looking ard. but the parents (us) are the pple tat are complaining v hot n v tired. hahha

MTDT,

Do u think Gymboree can add another 1 more kid? I thot of joining, or i call them myself to check?

Morning Mummies,
Ha.. gone to the library n borrowed a book on baby signs.. but they suggested only at 9 - 10 months when baby shows signs of wanting to communicate. But looks promising. Will start showing some signs to her now... like basic things like birds, dog (ARGH must re-teach her, cos my FIL keep telling her to KICK at the dog), Drink, More etc.etc.

YB, am pretty interested in the bb signing times, was reading reviews and it sounds enjoyable. =) Will go look around for it.

MTDT, thanks.
happy.gif
I hope that she's indeed recognizing new things. Just so worried that cos of her hearing impairment, she'll need alot more help.

Lucida & CL, hehe, can emphatize, but must remember to make sometime for urselves n make urselves prettypretty also la... good for self-esteem n makes u feel good too. =) even tho make up n lookin' good is juz physical thing, but it does have some rippling effects too!

That day, hubby n i saw this gorgeous mummy with a bb around 7 - 9 months... Hubby was like.. wow.. that mother is really pretty. Ha. I wanna be like that Mummy too.. Inspired!

so any mummies wanna meet up earlier on sunday??? i will be there ard 430...in case cant find the place..hehehe...seldom go s'goon...

MT- if set off around 10 plus, won't it be v hot by the time its noon in the zoo? actually u r right. i was the one who was complaining the most about the heat.

Peach- i am also inspired to look more like my pre-pregnancy self, esp aft my hubby's not-so-flattering remarks about how i look now!!! (ie. i need to lose the weight!)

i also borrowed the signing book from the library 4 my baby but he wasnt too interested (also cos i was v lazy). in order for signing to work, have to be v consistent and diligent.

MTDT,
Ya, good idea to have an outing to zoo since our bb is bigger liao...but 4th Mar my hubby is out of town leh...

dsii,
Dunno leh..have to depend on my hubby's timing since he's the 'Ahmad'...hee..hee..will sms u when I reached.

Talking about looks, sigh, have been having major breakouts cos not enough sleep since preparing for CNY & Spring cleaning. Ended up looked so ugly & tired during the festive season. Relatives & friends all ask y!! Next year will do no more cleaning! Will engage professional cleaners to spring clean liao.
