Anyone can shares their experiences and tips in choosing a maid? Thinking of getting one to help.

Also,
(1) is Indon or Fil maid better?
(2) any differ in their attitudes?

I have a maid but no experience in choosing but my mum helped me.

I chose a Filipino as can communicate, i dun 1 2 bcoz of savin d extra 20 or 40 bucks per month n end up strugglin tryin to explain or talk to a Indonesian maid.

1 more thing, chosing a experience one doesn't mean they are gd, they might be gd as in they roughly noe what Singaporeans expect but sometimes they might be up to no gd.

Currently, my maid that I'm having is her 1st time to Singapore, so far she's not bad but I wouldn't say she's perfect. But lucky she told me herself she dun want any off day, so i pay her extra $20 per month. After all she is from a foreign country, so their habits are different, you have to make clear to them what can be done, what cannot. Basically, just lay your cards well. Write things down in black and white so later any miscommunication can be avoided.

Anyway, it takes both parties to play a part, you treat them nice, they oso know hw to b appreciative. SO sometimes gotta give n take oso.

Just now bring baby to PD. Found out the actual reason for him being cranky and throwing out my precious BM - he has reaction to cow's product.. Recently I just started to take Annum for breastfeeding mum. This noon my baby stool has blood so got worried. Well.. have to throw away all the EBM for the past few days.. Just bought goats milk in case my BM not enough.. Hopefully I wont get to use that.

Actually bring baby to polyclinic this morning but they say it's normal. Therefore, all mummies, to be certain, bring to specialist. Even the rashes my baby has got abit fungus infection already but normal GP will just say normal rashes. PD say it's fungus infection

Just to share my personal experience... I dun have a maid with me, but we engaged one to take care of my sick MIL.

I dun go for transfer or with Singapore experience maid...other countries ok. So far my experience with those maids with Singapore experience and tranfers are terrible! Will take the whole day to tell all the horror stories.

I go for new ones. And no off days for them too...just compensate them accordingly and remember to let them have enough rest. It takes time to train a new maid but at least monkey business doesn't come so soon. I would say it's easier to train a new maid then to solve the monkey business from an experience maid. I know not all maids give employer headaches but at least you have lowered or delayed the risks

I agree with Mich that both parties play a part and many times you'll need to give and take.

Another thing: I've learned not to renew the maid's contract after 2 years not matter how good they are. Went through school and hard knocks!!

Take your time to go through their files and interview them, choose one you are comfortable with...Phil or Indo (Some Indo speaks quite ok English)... she'll be living with you and your baby. Don't be pressured by some agency staff into settling for one quickly.

poppy is right..dun extend the contract after 2 yrs..even u find they are very gd at their work...pls..we employed a maid to take care of MIL...she can cooks as my BIL taught her ...we all think she very gd and polite ..so after 2 yrs...we extend her contract since she knows whats going on in the family...dun want to waste time training a new one..but after the contract signed...her pattern all out liao..rude..tok to MIl loud loud...vent anger..like show black face...when MIl nag at her..she tok back..and after that if mil called her..she pretend not to hear till after many calls...problems lah..

How's ur bb's rashes like? My bb's rashes looks like pimples with pus. Sometimes, the pus & harden then dry up. The rashes are on the cheeks, forehead & nose bridge. GP said these are leftover hormones from my body that causes these rashes. Do u think I should go to a PD for 2nd opinion?

my bb's rashes dun look like pimples wif pus..like a circular rash pattern...one patch one patch.mine on th e 2 cheeks...eyebrows...and chin...very jialat ah that time...when u touch them..rough rough one...lucky i went PD...got the wash and cream to apply..if not..dun think now can recover...

i finally surrender to sarong...haiz...and hor he looks so contnted in the sarong..even not sleeping..he can quietly lie inside...if not..aiyo...whole day wanna carry...and very cranky...
 
Lucinda - I guess that's why dh prefers for our boy to go to Pedi. How's the rash now?

dsii - Ian too har? How's the rash now? Wah..investing in a sarong is indeed a good choice for ya! I wish my boy hor do not mind being constrained...he hates swaddling, in the sarong sling or anything which can constrain him when he is AWAKE...haiz!

Talking about my boy....tonite dunno why....he kept on crying after waking up. DH fed him FM...only drank 50ml and cried his lungs out coz my kena food poisoning...so most of the time in the toilet. So, when I came out after my shower, BF my boy and calmed down....but, BM may NOT be enough coz of kena food poisoning mah...haiz!!! Dunno if kena food poisoning can still BF bb or not????? *sigh*

Hi dsii, My boy one on the neck area. Not rough but one patch one patch and flat. Those on face is heat rash. Btw, except from applying the ointment, any other special care you took??

Hi JP, Morning will check. Now switch on yellow light when feeding him so cannot see clearly if the rash diminish. If do, then the ointment really miracle ointment ;)

Still manage to go on with breastmilk. However, I think I will be doing this for another 1 motnh (if my supply can tahan till then..). When get back to work will switch to FM.. How I wish I can like those mother who pump like a cow.. Now every 3 hour pump gives 100-125 ml only.
 
the PD gave me a antiseptic wash loh...so i just use that to wash bb's face then apply cream...very effective...after everyfeed will clean bb's face and neck...but if at wee hrs...aiyo...too tired to do all these stuff loh...so much better...lucky u go visit PD too...

at least u every 3 hrs pump still gto 100-125ml leh..me cant pump every 3 hrs one...maybe only ard 70- 90ml supply bah...haiz..ya loh...those can pump like a cow one..damn shiok..

I think i can't make it this time. I am very sick, sore throat, flu, fever. Went to see doctor just now, he gave me 6 kinds of medicine!
So how's the sarong? Ur son likes it? Can he sleep soundly last nite? If it's good, I may consider too. Now at nite, he doesn't wan to sleep on cot, he wans to sleep on rocker...jia lat!

last nite tried to put him in sarong abt 9plus...he didnt sleep but hor...just lie inside quietly...at least gd for us..then after a while i peeped at him..he like half dreaming half awake..hehe...but quiet loh...no crying and whining...then i think he dozed off lah...then ard 11 plus i wanna koon liao..damn tired...so i carried him and placed in cot...so far ok...just now he wante to be carried again...i put in the sarong again..hahaha...quiet...
