(2006/06) June 2006 MTB

toto,

possible to ask the teachers to feed milk? I am getting worried now, my J is a milk monster still. She can drink so much milk so often. And we can only fetch her at 6:45pm which means the teachers better feed her milk else she will scream the roof down.

I realise I din do my J justice... recently she know how to say "bubble, flower" liao
happy.gif
2 more to her vocab
happy.gif

I dun let her watch any tv now except limited bb signing time... no cartoons except phonics learning.

It’s like what Dr. Winston said, when their vocal switch is on, they will pick up words very fast. Maybe give them another one to two months and observe. I have been through that paranoid period of wondering if Kell got hearing loss or speech problem or not. But in the last month or so, she is picking up new words non-stop. Some words are clear whilst some are not crystal clear. Words like, hug tight, banana, plane, mei-mei (as in beautiful), shoe, fork, spoon, bowl, bubble, book, elmo, gai-gai, bye bye, apple … everything just pop out from her mouth and these days, she is surprising me with the sounds of letters too.

paula
where is this Sunflower Kids? cos i know there's a Sunflower Montessori behind my block too...is that the one u r referring to?

poohy
i tend to disagree wif ur therapist that kids their age should be able to say 2-word short sentences now...cos my ger (late May 06 bb) doesn't, still using a lot of single words unless it's double repetitive word like 'ma ma' & i've observed a lot of other kids at her JG class & playdates who dun speak that well yet...she speaks more when at home & wif familiar pp but w outsiders or even relatives, she will clam up. so dun worry too much yeah, i'm sure they will speak in time...long wait for us haha

mspiggy,

ya I wont go for weekly therapy... too costly. Will observe for the next 6 months and work on it ourselves first. My main purpose in going for therapy assessment is to find out whether there is any neurological origin to the speech delay.

Cheri,

I agree that different kids develop different speed. I dun really feel overly worried just that it perks me up to wanna do more for her
happy.gif
I was worried and brought her to therapist only to rule out neurological disorders. To me, speech develops at different speed, but as much as I can, I will wanna help her improve it if she has a notable delay since I believe that all these may or may not have an impact in the brain development and future development. I was telling my hb, we can wait and see, or we can find out whether there is a problem, confirm it and then work through it. Where the kids' development is concern, I rather be a little more anxious. If its something serious and we discover it too late, I dun wanna go and bang the wall later. The more we use and stimulate the brain, the more it develop, I think all these are somehow linked. I dun mind waiting but I dun wanna overlooked anything and regret forever.

Toto, oh I see.  I went through of a week to two of waking up 3 times every night to feed Kell with milk just a week or two ago. Since 3 months old, she doesn’t have night feed but that week or so, I find it so weird. But her PD confirmed that it is okay … she could be undergoing a growth spurt.

yes totally agreed with Paula, once switch on they cant stopped!
happy.gif

Wes is picking up and saying more and more things... starting to form sentences.

Cheri,
Yep yep, near Canadian International School at toh yi there. Yes, it is Sunflower Montessori ... I kept on referring it to Sunflower (cos owned by Sunflower hahaha)!

paula
haha if sunflower montessori is good, i will likely send my ger there since so so near my place haha...will check it out, but i think it's impt to see them when they r in action, the tots hv to be there lol.

mspiggy, wes is a fast talker... ke ke... BTW, J's last milk feed is 8.30 pm, thereafter, he will KO.... cos he only naps for 1 hr in the AM, then school...

mummies, i think we do not have to worry abt speech development... once our tots attend PG, they will open up, socialise and speak more...

J's vocab is good... just that he is taking his own sweet time to speak the words... ke ke... as long as we can communicate, via sign or eye contact, that's fine...
happy.gif

paula, J started his nite feeds when he started school, so i know it's due to inadequate food in the day.

poohy, the teachers will feed milk after class, meaning, after 5.15 pm, you can ask them to feed J. In between classes, no feeding. What time do you intend to drop J?

Cheri,
Join JZ, Chel and Kell for trial class on next Monday. Ai mai? Let me know so that I could prepare the school! Then shiok lah! The class will be dominated by June bbs. LOL

toto,

I intend to drop J at 2pm. I need to bring S home around 12:45noon and then come back with J. Sounds a little tiring. My hb is going for ICT in end March/Apr, I think the cab fare will cost a bomb.... I tried walking all the way up LW preschool from my office last friday lunch time.... took 20 minutes.... I may try to walk.

hmm.. ethan only knows how to say these few words - tractor, tiptoe (tks to kindermusik haha), baby, didi (his brother), ma ma, papa (though he referred the person specifically), popo(grandma), mei (the maid name), bao bao (carry), bubble, nei nei (milk), where, ball.

his vocabulary is quite ok leh.. i show him lots of picture words, he knows where to point everytime i ask him where it is.. but he juz won't speak much.. everyday he will juz keep saying tractor tractor, tiptoe tiptoe..

poohy, hmm... walking up? can be quite tiring le...

if you drop J at 2 pm, you will have to feed her lunch first, cos classes start at 2 pm. J arrives at 1 pm daily via school bus, so he is the first student in class everyday.

all the kids go off at 5.15, so J will be the only one at LW till 6.45pm. think you need to prepare milk for her, ask the teachers to give her the bottle.

toto,

actually I can start J in the PG starting feb. In a way, I am anxious for her to start so that her speech can be improved and to totally cut off the tv influence at home. My mum dun have time to teach her how to eat using spoon at home, so I hope she will pick that up and taste more different types of food in PG. But when I think of how long hours she gotta stay there... 2-6:45pm is about 4.5-5hours, I felt so sim tia... sigh if not becos of the speech development, I would love to have her at home till next year. Even S stays in school for only 3.5 hours a day. Seem like a quantum leap for J.

poohy - must be stressful for u to keep worrying abt J. but at lesat now u noe wat are somethings u can help J now.
happy.gif

I agree too tat once they start yakking - it's non stop. Zav also only start yakking like 1 or 2 mths ago. And everyday i hear new words from him and only recently 2words sentences like Mummy up, dog bark, papa there etc. so J is not really tat "slow"
happy.gif

poohy, J will adjust well, dun worry. J stays in school from 1 - 5.15, about 4 hours plus. Actually, why dun you arrange for one way school bus to bring her home, so she can reach home by 5.45 pm? then your mum can attend to her needs and give her a proper dinner.... picking her at 6.45 pm seems a bit late...

toto,

I need to check whether there is a school bus going our way .... cos there may not be. We stay too far away... I am feeling like moving house liao if not becos my mum stay nearby and easier for her to come over to look after them.

poohy, do you let S wear socks in class? mid length or ankle socks? i am making J wear socks starting this week, due to the numerous mozies bites he got last week... hopefully, the socks will reduce contact with the blood suckers...

paula - seems like u hv good impression on sunflower - why not go for them then?

I think sometimes the "no brands" ones are the gems as it's not over crowded and over hype :p

poohy, i think the school bus goes your direction, cos i saw on the school bus list, there is even one student who stays in B Batok. And one in JE/W, forgot where... maybe you can ask Winnie to check for you? that might be an option at the start, so she spends less time at LW?

toto,

thanx!! I will check it out then
happy.gif
I let S wear mid length socks. Ya, for the last 3 months that S had been at LW, he never kenna any mozzie bite, but this last 1 week, he kenna so many times... my mum is so upset that it may leave marks all over his legs.
sad.gif
I try to apply the california bb aloe vera cream dunno whether it will help. In fact S never kena mozzie bite before in his life. I hope the situation improve soon with the fogging. Maybe I need to go get some mozzie patch for S liao and J... afternoon is warmer, maybe the mozzie come out more.

poohy, i also bought some mid length socks, to protect J from bites. some classmates had similar problems. even mummies who were there got lots of bites.. myself being a victim. you can also apply CB bug repellent on S's socks. i did that for J. also, stick one mozies patch at the back. the marks are really bad... i am VERY upset... J will scratch and it will bleed, even bleed over his PJ.... and the marks are so ugly... now he has 5 cents 10 cents all over his both legs...
sad.gif

toto,

does the CB bug repellent helps? Has it been better this week... think so far this week, S dun seemed to have as much bite liao.... I am getting worried abt J liao. My mum already saying lucky S is not a girl... if J kenna all those bite I will faint.

poohy, this week, so far no bite yet, but it's only tuesday. today is waterplay, so i will observe again later. for waterplay, think you should get J a full suit, her swim costume is too skimpy and might attract mozies.

CB bug repellent seemed to work le... but of cos, still need the patch, and still need teachers to add on their spray.
happy.gif

poohy, i got my own patches from Guardian, but quite ex, like $1 a patch, but the patch is very thick and quite good. i also got some via pat's BP - the thinner ones, she is collecting orders now, maybe you can email her?

Peng,
That is an impressive bank of vocabulary liao! Smart Ethan!

MTDT,
Haha … everything is good about them except for the size of the classroom. It is one of the smallest that I have ever seen and I spoke to the CM earlier. She said she will be renovating the center so that the tots would have a bigger space. The ideal situation is to enroll Kell in the best school with the best teachers. I’m still trying to see if there are better schools or not. Haha … kiasu, kiasee … sib eh jia lart!

wow paula... seemed like you have toured quite a no. of schools already. do update us what you think of the schools.

paula, which one is the best? i have seen MMI, LV, SJK, and LW. would like to check out Eton House, heard its syllabus is quite good...

Toto,
Yep yep, heard Eton House is good. One of my canadian associates who is living in singapore recommended that place. But school fees also very good. Keke.

Eh, thought you are going LW too? Which MMI did you go too?

hi! good afternoon ladies... long time nvr come in here... how's everyone.

paula, it's a pity we cant go to your palace for steam boat. i love steamboat!

wow! everyone seems so on in finding a school for your kids... looks like i'm a laggard in that
sad.gif
Bringing aaron for his classes is so tiring ...i simply have no time to bring Fiona to classes.

btw, school bus these days r so expensive! aaron's one way trip within the estate already cost $84 p/m.
sad.gif

re: patches
i heard fr my hubby that they can get cheap patches fr the supplier...the type they sell in the clinics. But i have no idea whether it is good or not... havent even finished those i bought fr BP.

paula,

weecare is highly recommended.... I wanna enrol my S but I waitlist for the longest and there is no news leh... maybe they tried calling me and I never pick up the call lor. share with us your review of it ok.

paula,

I am not sure leh I had been trying to go for a trial... but maybe I din try hard enough
happy.gif
Hey now that I remember, their development assessment is so EXP! I was attracted to it at first but scared off by their fees leh.

paula,

really?!! ya maybe we can check... I am keen if the price is not so scary. Maybe 50% discount and we can do without their written report. I understand normally if there is a written report, the price can be twice as much.

Paula,
my office at kallang. talking abt steamboat... love to go to your palace but 8 Feb cant make it. sorry.

Wah lau...

All mummies here really Kiasu manz...

Actually hor... ask u all hor... whats the purpose of sending your kids to these centre so early huh? Is it to make sure they will excel in school next time n be the top students?

I abit bo chap leh... all i want is to find a plc and sent chelsia there to PLAY HARD.. play real hard and not study leh... hehe...

MTDT,
You know why suddenly i wanna put chelsia to independent PG? cos ar.. My SIL's start working this week and last week, she start to let her ah boy go PG near her house ar.. the ah boy cry n cry leh... then my SIL say she feel like crying also every morning when she sent the boy up the school bus.. so hor.. i think hor i cannot leh... next time if its the age for nurssery and chelsia need to go school.. she cry n cry,, think mummy here will cryy till siao also leh... so was thinking better let her start early.. few hrs, then increase to half day.. then increase to full day....

weecare is at somerset. I went to enquire too.
it's walking distance from my office or just opp Singapore Power building.

and yes, u hv to waitlist for 6mths to get into the parent accompany class for 1 mth then u can proceed to the "non accompany" class.
