(2006/06) June 2006 MTB

Hi Poohy!

I notice my ger has been speaking more since she started daycare 2 weeks ago. She's even picking up some chinese words, a language which she's hardly exposed to! She's even singing songs in intelligible phrases! I suppose that's really how powerful group-learning can be and especially when amongst peers. Some children just need that external motivation. I'm sure your child will pick up when she starts her PG.

poohy,
Thank you very much in advance

I hardly have time to read much lately. Dunno is it becos EDD is getting nearer, A is getting more sticky to me now. How did you prepare S for J's arrival last time?

toto,
Where is SJK? What does it stand for?

Paula,
Which area are you all going for the school hunting?

lyn, St James Kindy. it's really popular, N1 in 2009 waitlist over 80 students now. its cirriculum is supposed to prepare students for singapore system, and is based on the Israel MATA early childhood teaching. it is christian based.

lyn, yes, they do. when i visited them in end 06, they do not have a pool yet. however, i think the space is bit old and dirty, as it is quite big.

paula
r we going anywhere else on mon besides sunflower montessori? still thinking whether to bring my ger along if it's just to observe & their participation is not needed hahha.

Poohy,
I just browsed through the development table in "How smart is your baby" book. For language, speaking 10 to 25 words and 2 couplets is average for 18 months old. So J is on par...

still thinking if i will use those additional resources....

lyn,
i used Ameda so far served me very well. i've lent my frd mine and she used PIS from another frd. she prefers PIS and bought 1 for herself.

Paula,
hmm... What time are you gals starting the school hunting? Hope I can join you gals

Let me try to "copy" from the book and hope you can interpret it correctly.

Visual competence: Differentiation of similar but unlike simple visual symbols
Auditory competence: Understanding of 10 to 25 words and two couplets
Tactile competence: Tactile differentiation of similar but unlike objects

mobility: Walking with arms freed from the primary balance role
language: 10 to 15 words of language and two couplets
manual competence: Cortical opposition bilaterally and simultaneously

If the child reached the above at 9 months, development is considered superior. Average is 18 months to reach these levels.

dont need to bend down but need to hold the pumps for me. but then my hubby's cousin told me she doesnt need to hold the pumps. guess it's individual.

Lyn,
LOL! No lah ... will be dropping by SUNFLOWER Montessori in Bukit Timah, then Cheri Hearts at Larang Larang then Caterspillar Cove at Ngee Ann Poly. Wanted to drop by Eton house but they said that there are fully booked. So drop by also no use. Maybe will drop by LL too.

toto,
actually after awhile... i also 'mastered' how to multi-task while expressing. i also 'kiap' using 1 hand while the other to surf net. practice makes perfect hehehe

paula - My colleague sends her gal to Kinderland in Hwa Chong JC. Maybe u can consider this one too.
happy.gif
http://www.kinderland.com.sg/

My colleague says: hv baby ballet in part of their curriculum at age of 3 and basic keyboard from age of 4 onwards.. age 3 they learn basic notes , rhymnes... by age of 6 they will knw how to play keyboard (for leisure la)

Lyn - PIS also served me for 4mths. It's v convenient and i can use my arm to "kiap" it then flip my mag while pumping. :p

Hi all,

Have been MIA for very long due to work. Am still swimming in tons of work. ER was down with high fever, diahhrea and vomit last week. He's recovering now. Phew.... tot he contracted dengue cos there were a few cases in my condo.

Lyn: Was looking at what you extracted from the book. Think ER is very far off his language. He's still at papa, mama....he's been refusing to say any other things. Sigh.... Don't quite understand Tactile & manual competence though. Chim 8(

mobility: Walking with arms freed from the primary balance role
Zav failed in this... he is running with one arm swinging only. I did ask my PD, then my PD ask him to demo, walk to me, but at tat moment, he swings both hands!!! ARGH!! hahahah

anyway, was just ask to monitor tat's all. :p

Actually I hardly keep a count of how many words Zav can say accurately. but to me as long as u see improvment daily, think shd be fine.
happy.gif

Wes like to walk with his head ahead of his body... like sprinting!

i have 1 qns... how do we know if our tod have flat feet? do it come out over time or from birth we can determine whether they have it or not? anyone knows abt this ?

Paula : wish i cld join u, but my coll just hinted to me not to take leave "unnecessary" now - since i'd be away for 3 mths maternity later in the yr ...
*sigh* so diff to juggle work and family life.

Lyn,
Really chim. *Sweat* Let me know if my interpretation is correct.

Visual competence: Differentiation of similar but unlike simple visual symbols

dun understand!

Auditory competence: Understanding of 10 to 25 words and two couplets
This one no problem. Haha.

Tactile competence: Tactile differentiation of similar but unlike objects
As in they are able to differentiate blocks of similar shapes and arrange it by colors? I.E., she is able to pick up all the circles shaped like blocks from a pool of all shaped blocks. And then, she will separate the circle blocks based on their colors. Like, orange circle blocks will form one role, red circle blocks will form another?

mobility: Walking with arms freed from the primary balance role
No problem too! She can climb up and down the stairs without any help. She can walk up and down the drain without having to hold on to any support or using her hands to balance herself

language: 10 to 15 words of language and two couplets
Exceeded! And can imitate the sounds of about 10 animals and objects too. Wonder if zoo is looking for performer

manual competence: Cortical opposition bilaterally and simultaneously
SO CHIM

If the child reached the above at 9 months, development

MsPiggy,
Get PD to assess! Keke! Rememeber Doreen from KM asked me to send Kell to orthopedic for treatment because when she is walking, her feets are pointing inwards? I checked with her PD. She walked and demonstrated. PD said that her case is minor and it could be hereditary from her dad. Even if he refers her to ortho or occupational therapy, they would refer her to dunno where to get corrective soles done. But, he said many times, it is d way how the bones is structure unless we are talking about ops! Even corrective soles won't help much. So monitor and see! As long as it does not affect her in the future or if one day, she decides to be a ballet dancer, that's fine with me. haha.

toto, mspiggy, mtdt,
hmm... "kiap" and multi tasks... kekeke... that's what I want!
I am thinking, will there be a difference if I just get two single pumps? Dunno can "kiap" or not. I dun wanna spend too much on pumps, cos secarly I dun use often. Waste $$$. But if the pump can save me time, I will spend lor...

Paula,
hahaha... I love sunflower... Bright and cheery
happy.gif

Confirm with you again...

mtdt,
Zav pass ma... He can run with both arms swinging in front of PD, so should pass already... Maybe just his habits?
I also did not count how many words A is speaking. hmm... improvement daily... sometimes I dun even go and notice daily improvement wor...

Paula,
at birth, they have his footprint on his healthbook, that one look perfectly normal.

but now when i see his feet, seems abit flat. so wonder if it will come over time, or is it simply 'bah bah'. will check with PD during his jab on Monday.

Hi mummies,
Interested in the above trial class but where is this school?

lyn - maybe it's habit huh...
I notice he is getting more prone to being a left hander (which is kind of a sudden change from 1-2mths ago only, he mostly right hander 1-2mths back).

I am fine with right/left hander, but my concern is he is not a left hander becos his right hand is not "efficient".

Usually when he walk, his right hand will be stationary while he swings his left hand... so as another paranoid mom, i also worry is there anything wrong with his right hand. :p

Mspiggy - haha, so cute one.. got footprint in his healthbook? which hospital huh?
happy.gif

flatfoot - I also dunno how to see but visually, my boy also flat lah... but i tot it's meat :p

MTDT,
huh.. i didnt know it's not common! not all hospital "stamp" their foot on the healthbook? Wes was delivered in Mt E.

yeah lor... visually seems flat. then MIL's bro makes such a big fuss! scream so loud.. saying Wes has flat foot ask me to be careful and all his shoes will be expensive blah blah blah... scared me! arrggghhhh

mspiggy - TMC dun hv footprint leh :p

flat feet - pls ask ur PD then update us :p

so wat u gals think abt the right/left hand? :p
where else can i check tat huh?
since paula mentioned Kindermusik, I just rem during then he was a right hander... tat's only 1+mth ago. hmmm....

MTDT, right/left hand hmmm... not sure also. maybe you test him, pass a pen to him see which hand he's using now

MTDT,
Read from somewhere that in Shichida school, they will tell you to give your child a ball to kick. If he or she uses left leg to kick the ball, that means he or she is a left hander and vice versa. I think it is still early to tell right? PD said that they will keep us guessing till they are probably 4 or 5 years old.

Kell can feed herself using both left and right hands (and at times both hands!). When she is crayoning or coloring, at times she will use left hands and at time she will use right hands. Maybe she hasn’t decided which hand to use yet. Haha.

Lyn : my friends who have used the PIS highly recommend it ! Cuz you can use it with the power as well as with batteries.
Just to share my experience with the avent Isis Uno - i loved the pump ! and i had no problems with milk supply, so happily kept to a single pump. But some mummies have told me that it's better to pump both 0_0 at the same time to get more yield
happy.gif

The only problem with the avent is the battery - it ran flat very fast, and since i pump in an executive toilet at work with no access to a power socket, i eventually gave up and used the manual version instead. But for #2, i've already decided to get the PIS
happy.gif

Paula : yar lorrr !!!! *sigh* feeling so jaded now ...

Anyhows, the development milestones can be found in our toddlers' health booklet i think - there is one on 18 mths - and that they sld be able to say X number of words at this age.
But every baby develops differently, so no worries la.

Just to share something funny - my K muttered a word that sounded like F**K 2 weeks ago, she was in her car seat and there was nothing within her view, so my mum pannicked ! and tot she learnt the bad word from someone !! (we suspected my bro ! haahaaa J/K) then at the dining table, she pointed to the FORK and said Fu*k again !! so that's what she means !!! How relieved my mum was !!! jkeekeee

By the way, does any of your child wants or likes you to massage their feet? Kell has this weird habit lei. She would shove either one of her feet to me and want me to massage it!

ok, found cluny court on the map. Pls count me in for this trial. This is my first gathering with June 06 mummies.
