Wen,
Yea, she is extremely interactive now. Just that I am concerned about her speech development. Brought her to see PD yesterday because she was ill and at the same time spoke to her PD in length about her speech development. Her pronunciation isnt very clear and it takes her quite a while to pick up a new word but when she finally decides to use that word, she really surprises us. Like, we have been teaching her the word open for about a week. She refused to repeat after us. One fine day when we reached home and was unlocking the door, she suddenly says Opern.
The PD asked me to converse with her yesterday and I initiated a conversation that I always played with her.
M: What does Santa says?
K: Hohoho
M: What does dog says?
K: Moof Moof
M: What does cat says?
K: L eow
M: What does Ellie the elephants say? (she picked this up from GUG because it is the rhythm of the semester)
K: Neigh (high pitch)
M: What does bird bird says?
K: Bird
M: What does cow says?
K: Moomoo
M: What sound does car car makes?
K: vroooom
Then she got distracted by a box of sweets sitting on the table and suddenly says, Oper ease Then she said xie xie
Then I told PD that she can sing and he asked me to try getting her to sing.
M: Darling, can you sing the Hi-Five song?
K: On standing position, one hand up, start tapping one of her legs and she goes Pie, pie, pie, hmmm, pie, pie pie
He asked me based on what cues do I know that she is singing? I said from her actions and some of the words and when sings, she hum really long and got pitches one. Like how she sang Twinkle twinkle little stars (by opening and closing her hands) and d Happy Birthday song (by swaying from one side to another and clap her hands whenever she sang yew)
Like these days, I have been singing to her its raining, its raining, the old man is snoring, he knocked his head and went to bed whenever we are out and it rained. So, these few nights, whenever I carried her home and if it rains, she will hum and hum and placed her hands on her head (indicating that it is raining).
So the PD said that I shouldnt be worried about her speech capability cos from his observations, he felt that she is good and those animals sounds that she imitates are actually considered as words too. He said that some toddlers pick up words very fast whereas other might take a little longer. But when the latter started to speak, they will usually surprise you with sentences. He said that their brain is like a sponge now and told me to continue with my story telling and bed time interactive games (routine at night) and speak and sing to her. And he said that for this particular group of children, there is a high chance that they will be very good in either of these: mathematics (his second son is a good example), arts and crafts or music.
And when we are about to leave the clinic, she said byee
