finally someone answered to my "prayer".. hehe.. i am cutting down on the number of pumps alrdy, fm 4, 3, now 2... hmmm.... but the quantity still there lei... so hou lian sia.... ya, last time many ppl use medicine to stop, but also, many mom said is better to avoid lei... haiz... i am still trying to go without med see how, if still cannot stop, then i will take med liao. no choice liao... if become "airport" mah "airport" lor.

I understand how it feels. My ger also down with cough and running nose for 2 weeks earlier last mth. Seen the doctor twice. As what tiffany, we avoided aircon for her. I was so worried then, dunno her cough will get worse or not. Luckily didn't. And she also tend to sweat easily and poorer appetite while on medication.

Yes, I have bought insurance for Owen during my confinement period. Me v kiasu and kiase as I know the importance of getting the insurance for him. So quickly buy. Hospital insurance is the 1st thing in my mind.

Tiffany and KK,
We have avoided aircon for him when he first caught the flu but the condition seems to be the same and no change. So decided to move him back to sleep with us. He can sleep better. Then dun know why, suddenly, the cough juz get worse last week. He has seen 3 doctors including PD for the past 3 weeks. His pleghm juz seems not to come out at all. During nite time, it's worse. So I might want to bring him to see PD again this week if his condition still dun improve.
 
hi des, my matthias also sick for more than a week liao. came down with flu and cough. PD presribed med and nebuliser machine for the phlegm. maybe you wanna ask the PD abt the machine. he's better now but now, mummy is down with flu liao.

understand how u feel...cos my gal oso having very bad cough last Aug ....and its take longer time to recover (about 3 weeks)...must be very patient.
One of the PD even give my gal smell the gas......and she oso loose weight...

so sad to hear so many bbs sick. could it be the haze???

actually leo started coughing a mth ago. when he cough, sounds like got a lot of phlegm inside. we asked his pd and amazignly he said leo is NOT having cough. it's becos babies got very thin diaphragm and so they choke easily on their saliva (which is really alot now cos they're teething). if the cough is on and off, it's the saliva, and not a cough.

we asked the pd to check leo at 4th and 5th mth. both times he told us he don't have phlegm. quite frustrating for me, cos everytime leo coughs, it sounds like there's a lot of phlegm! but becos he's still a baby, i don't want him to take medication so often, so my hubby and i never send leo to see doc.

i did some research and found some info in other threads about helping bbs get rid of phlegm. I found this info about a place which provides bb tui na! supposed to help get rid of phlegm! it's all the way in changi tho, may be too far for some mommies...

Whole process takes minimum 1hr, so put ample parking tickets! Warden very hardworking over there ;)

Take yaobao (medicine bag) from Dispensary if prescribed (this is to stick over baby's belly button - it really helps to reduce the phlegm)

Pay at cashier counter($15 - $30+ depends on whether targeted or full body tui na and whether any medicine bags)
 
Tiffany, YA YA no aircon best for bb now.. dry for the skin la... and their nose no good lei on top of that they will can use to aircon next time places with no aircon dt wan to slp. Hmm.. then again those infant care also aircon isit?? hmm..

des - insurance good for u.. me only bought after i gave birth la after i kw from my frd's case. she told me sometimes u bought the little one in hospital the fee is cheaper, can deduct medisave and got subsidy compare to see PD. but the only prob is u got to stay in hosiptal la.. hiazzzzz

Tiffany, my sis teach me can put pomelo skin.. which now is the season......... u can try that. or put cold cabbage.. tat will relieve pain pain and also to stop the supply.

wow liao u still got so much milk... hiaz poor isaac ytd remember abt neh neh milk.. he wants but no supply he feel so sad.. can see his disappointed face.. lousy mama hor :p

I have asked the PD about the removing of phlem but he said as my boy's phlem is not very serious so try not to use. My boy dun like it when i use the nose drop. Always cry whenever he sees the bottle. Now, whenever he's in the lying position, he will cry while drinking milk halfway esp when i try to see his nose. He tot I b using the nosedrop n refuse to drink his milk anymore. His intake for yesterday is very very little.

My hubby ask me to stop feeding him cereal incase its due to the cereal. Thus, the delay in recovering.

I oso dun want my bb to take too much medication but haiz... take already still no drastic improvement. M very tired already.

if got mucus, then you every few hours, use the pigeon tube to suck out. then he will feel more comfortable.

at night, mebbe you can prop him up with a pillow. be sure to put the pillow UNDER the bedsheet and tuck in the sheet securely so that the pillow won't move around. this may help him breath better.

you can also apply Vicks on his chest so that he can breathe better. my IFC tell me to buy the pink colour Vicks for babies. i bought another brand called...i think 'snugglebaby'. it's also like vicks but for babies. can buy from guardian.

I have been feeding Amanda with cereal using spoon for the past 1.5 mths liao... so far so good and just changed from brown rice to barley cereal.. which is a good change as she seems to be a little sick of brown rice cereal... my mum said that it is better to feed from the spoon, as her experience with my bro was that she used to put in cereal into his milk, and he got so used to it that he refused to drink from the bottle unless there was cereal inside.. but different babies different lar
 
des, i cut down on matthias milk when he is sick so that his body can concentrate on getting better. i also stop the solids - cereal, porridge etc. You may want to try it. btw, pd's review on him was good. he need not visit the pd till 6 month for his next jab. thank goodness!

BTW, for all mummies. PD advised not to bring bbs out unless necessary because of the current flu trend.

Hmm.. did see any animal place in sentosa leh.. basically was there for only 2 days 1 night.. went to swim, walked along the beach and then rushed back to the room at night to watch singapore idol.. one thing about beaufort hotel is that the surroundings becomes very dark during the night time, not much lights.. so didnt dare to venture out.. and moreover, a little inconvenient if you dont drive there.. cos if you wanna get out of the hotel to the beach, you will have to take a feeder bus out, then change to the beach tram... very time consuming..

My gynae also told me that cold cabbage will stop milk supply. So envy you. Your supply so much. Me pump 3 times only enough for my girl to drink 2 times. Haiz.....
 
fussiecate, hey the same thing happened to me too! My bb was coughing and when he coughed, I could hear the phlegm. However, the docs insisted that there wasn't. I consulted a few docs and they said the same thing. Anyway, I also tried not to give medication to him.

If u keen, Tiger jars are only sold in Japanese stores. E.g. Seiyu and Taka. Saw them there. Seiyu is selling at ard 60+ for 0.7ml. But BP even cheaper.

Re: Slow cooker
Can get at Courts. If cooking only bb porridge, you can oso get the pigeon's metal bowl (get mine from Seiyu) and place inside the slow cooker to make the porridge.

It will make the porridge really soft n fine... easier for bb to eat.

Bottle teat with brown rice cereals mixed with milk
Think can try the bottle with feeding spoon. At least it is much easier to feed. Unless urs very dilute then get the large hole teat one will do.

Phlegm
Yap yap... I very scared of XT too coming down with cough. Whenever I hear a sound of cough, I gave her a bit of bao yin dao. So at least it's not so bad.

I noticed lately she's having a lot of small cough, think is the haze. So better be careful.

Try cleaning the air of the bb's room first b4 putting bb to sleep then switch on the aircon n place a glass of water inside as well.

If not feeling too good, can try bringing bb to tui na @ the mentioned clinic.

BTW, pm me if u want to know a way to avoid queue. =p

After our bbs @ 6th month, can put a bit of grinded chong chou into the milk powder as well. It helps to build bb's lungs.

i steam veg and use spoon to mash it but it still look leafy in small bit leh. How to mash until really mashy huh?
 
twinkle, you have those bowl with grid bits? u use the wooden stick provided and use that and mash the veg.

bbs with phlegm, you may consider give yr bb have "xing feng san" according to my regular chinese medical hall guy (very experience) says it can get rid of phlegm.

leafy veg have to puree, got more fibres. Until baby is about 8 months or till he's ready to take a bit more chunky food, then can cut finely and cook.

BTW, just saw Smurfy organise BP on "kopitiam blue card"? What's that huh? Got what use? Me country bumpkin...

Talking abt feeding bb.. i think i am the most adventurous one here. Over the weekend, my bb had a taste of what zui kuey is like, and we also fed her a bit of kuey teow. Last nite she took lotus root soup and kept asking for more. She also loves mashed potato

mom_yam, frozen peas also can. Think is more convenient and the pea seeds are big as compared to those fresh ones, the seeds so tiny.... u also pureee with the pods?
 
kk, your lotus root soup got added salt or not? don't feed them with salted food leh. No good for the kidney.

My gal loves to drink plain water. kekeke she's also greddy for the semi-solids, whatever I feed her. but she more gian for the water. hahaha Slurping fast fast

so u did not use the pods...must have used a lot of peas lor...cos a handful of peas afterc extract the seeds not enough leh....that's why I had to add in the pods to make up the qty last time.

I have never cook a proper meal in my life but I tried making the apple puree last weekend. I steam the apple until the water run dry.. hahha..
then i marsh the apple and add some water. After all the hardwork, my bb took 2 mouths then don't want already... maybe the apple too sweet for his taste... He prefer the heinz vege puree that I bot from NTUC ley..
 
Smurfy, the discount is for drinks only or also for the food stalls? So, just give card and they deduct the amount (with discount) like a cash card?
 
thanks mommies who replied about feeding cereal with spoon or bottle! i think i will try with spoon.

i remember reading a thread some time ago debating freshly pureed food vs bb food sold in jars. some pple said that the bb food jars are better becos they were prepared under sterilised condition and are fortified with other vits and stuff like DHA. what you all think? btw, don't they contain preservatives too?

when they go cashless, we must purchase the pink card first. Pink card have no disc when you use it to buy food. After you accumulate $20 worth of purchase, then you can upgrade to blue card for future disc on further purchases.. very ma huan...

for bottled baby food, read the ingredients list. try to avoid any that include preservatives and 'fillers' (ie. stuff that makes the food thicker like starch). most of the '1st foods' available at supermarkets from the major brands (gerber, heinz etc) are all quite pure, ie. just pureed fruit and water and sometimes vitamin C. i think the ones to look out for are the larger jars of complete meals for older babies, things like 'turkey dinner' or 'garden vegetable stew', these are the ones that may have additives.

she really enjoyed it but i'm not sure if i want to sign up for the full programme as i think i can entertain/stimulate her in the same way at home for now. maybe when she's a bit older and can enjoy interacting more actively with other bbs.

here's a summary of what we did:
- class had abt 10 mommies &amp; bbs (most bbs were abt 5 - 7 mths but one was only 3 mths and was asleep for most of it!!)
- singing and dancing in a circle
- stretching limbs and clap clap hands
- teacher sings and brings a tambourine around for bbs to 'bang bang' a bit
- playing with scarves
- bb massage
- relaxation time to wind down from all the fun
- shake hands with partner, ie. other bbs.]
- playing and singing together with bells and maracas (like a rattle) for each bb

if you sign up for the full programme, you get a take-home pack which includes a music CD (which they play in class), storybook and various other material.

Tiffany, ya thking lei... coz' a lot of prob recently. feel like just putting him in IFC, 1) is beta for Isaac there i thk. coz' they will teach him things 2) then i wont have to listen so many neg things until i'm quite tired.

but then if i do that i will have a lot of prob.. i will totally have no time for myself back home.
