Hi, just log in here looking for advice on starting solid for me bb. Great to meet so many mums here.

My bb about 5 1/2 months now, started on cereal last week, just dun know how much to give her. I gave her 1/2 a teaspoon scoop of cereal and then follow on with milk (120ml).

When should I give her cereal completely without milk for a meal? My bb still asks for milk every 3-4hours(around 135ml-150ml), is this what to be expected at this stage? Or at what age then to have cereal as a complete meal?

Can bb rely solely on cereal and milk, see u mummies adding veg, etc etc. How to do puree?

Read many books, wow, find it complicated with so many different types of food for bb just for a day only.
Sorry, 1st time mum, so got many many questions to ask.

Read from the other thread last time the mummies there do not recommended Marmite to bb's food cos' of the high salt content (not good for bb). Fyi.

Cereal feeding:

I have been giving solely cereal to my girl for 1 meal everyday for about 3 weeks or so already.. about 4 scoops of cereal with 40-50ml of BM..

My girl bites almost everything she sees too.. she loves to grab our hands and bring it to her mouth but she often ends up biting her own hands.. and she will watch us drink and eat, and she doesnt seem happy if she doesnt have anything to eat and then she will reach for our food and try to grab it..

My gal likes to suck her fist and fingers continuously. Give her teether toy to bite on, she will get real upset and mang zang when she cannot put it into her mouth properly.

RE: Puree
Purees are easy to make. Just cook (boil, steam, bake or microwave - I prefer steaming to preserve as much of the nutrients as possible) the vegetables and fruits (till tender, then throw into blender, puree and serve. You can puree single fruit/vege, or combine two or more fruits/vege, and also mix the puree into rice cereal for variety.

You don't have to follow strictly to the books' weaning schedule. If you prepare fesh puree for every meal, use whatever ingredient you are intending to cook for yourself (just make sure that the type of food is suitable for the baby's age). This is what I do, I don't think ahead of what to serve my gal. I'll see what's available in the kitchen/fridge otherwise, just plain rice cereal lor....

If you prepare in bulk, you would probably have different foods stored in your freezer, so you can choose what to serve for different meals.

I wanna stress that whatever I say is NOT conclusive. Just bear in mind that every baby is different, and we shouldn't be in competition to wean our babies. Take the cue from our own baby's feeding pattern and appetite. Hope it helps.

Brendon was teething when we were back from a trip to Australia. Pity him and the passengers, his cheeks were so flushed and keep crying because of the irritability. Ended up I brought him to the toilet to soothe him for fear of upsetting the other passengers.

Another scenario... do your babies like to watch tv programmes?

When my boy watches his Baby Einstein videos, he will yell and throw some temper when the show ends or when we want to pick him up from his seat.

I wanna have a potluck session or gathering these few days before I go back to work lei...anybody interested? Weekday afternoons, can adjoin to nearby Bishan Park also or we do swarowski and glass beads jewellery together? I going to the wholesale store to replenish my stock.

Yes, my son loves tv...... but wont throw temper thou, he wont let his eyes off the tv set. the other we were watching the ch 8 - ivy lee's show. i thk he thk ivy lee quite pretty har.. he start "talking" to her. how i kw right.. coz' next follow by next scene he just turn to me and play with me

Hee.. my gal doesn't luv to watch most TV programmes except those her mommy likes. She n I really can glue onto the current 9pm's VVDrama show. She basically doesn't blink even when she's watching the show.

Mom_yam, I took 3 months of no-pay leave too. All due to maid issues lor.

Choose the first maid 4 months before delivery. She bullied my mother. Made my mother cook for her and insisted on having milo drinks even when my mother asked her to drink water while having tea breaks.

Yup...Koalarie and mom_yam, my boy doesn't blink when it comes to his favourite scenes but he will start 'grunting' when he doesn't like some of the scenes. And mom_yam, your baby is paying you a compliment.

My boy started putting his hand into his mouth and suck and suck and suck and will try to put even my finger in... and the same as more bb here, even soft toys and cloth books also wanna eat.

Sleeping
Wondering if only my boy have this problem. He will make alot alot of noise before he sleep. Not crying but more like trying to talk and will be quiet after 10-15mins. Is this normal or becoz he has a talkative mummy?

I thought Jayden is the only 1 with the sleeping problem! He will 'talk' non-stop when I pat him to sleep. To me it's more like complaining that he's not comfortable in the position that I'm carrying him/ he doesn't want to sleep yet. Anyway, it's super embarrassing lor coz he also does that when we are outside.

Heehee, maybe i take it more postive lor. To me, he is like trying to talk to me coz afternoon i working mah so at night he will tell me what happen in the day time lor. So normally, i will tell him, okay i know, Ah ma tell me liao, you guai guai sleep and dun talk so much hor but he never listen and will contiune until he sleep... hahaha!!!! Outside he do the same thing to me and worst coz he sleep in sarong so when i am outside, i need to pat and move my body alot just like him in sarong to make him sleep so i guess i more pai seh lor.. a fat mummy like carrying a baby dancing
 
My bb also like to look at pretty woman and worst, he will give them a great shy smile and melts those pretty lady heart... hahaha!!! So funny.
 
haha....1sttimemum, me too leh. Another fat mummy with a small baby! Though Jayden has decrease his frequency of sleeping in sarong, I still need to pat, move my body then somemore sing to him leh in order to make him sleep. *faint*

I dont think he's talking to me leh, coz the whole day he faced me and talked to me liao, wats there left to tell me? So to me, I assume he's summarising how I've ill-treated him in the day lor..haha...

Yaya...Jayden also smiles shyly to the ladies...aiyo, then they will start to come and play with him, say he's cute, and he'll be super excited and starts to babble loudly! *roll my eyes* Wat an attention seeker!

JJ sleep quite well at night but he tends to "talk" before he sleep so sometime find it quite funny and wondering if only my boy do this. I thought he have a talkative mummy than he also become talkative liao.

Keep up the good work. How long does u all plan to breastfed? My pd strongly encourages me to BF as long as possible.

Be it u r fat, skinny, old, young, this little baby will just show u his gummy teeth. but for guys / man sorry, u have to tickle him before he is willing to show u his gummy. hahaha

yesterday was at hospital visiting my frd's new born. both mum and princess are doing very well. Then again my boy became the central of attraction instead of the newborn. u kw why, coz' he smile to ALL grannies, and of coz' also to all the aunties there. so pai say coz he talk and smile to them non stop. poor princess the lime light kanna stolen. *faint*

started cereal on Lucas... guess wat?? he is more keen on eating the hamburger pic on the bib. he threw tantrum when i pulled the bib away fm his mouth. cry and cry... buay tahan... tried again the next day... "eating" the hamburger again... also cried when i pulled the bib away. Decided not to use the bib on 3rd day... hmm... he finished his cereal... haiz... this boy loves Hamburger!!

I visited my fren over the weekend who deliver a bb gal. i think i bring my boy at the wrong time cos they wanted a boy and see my boy keep playing w him.

Lucas is so cute.. so is the bib prob and not the cereal prob :p is ok.. next time u can do a cereal hamburger for him hahahaha
