(2006/04) April 2006 MTB

Evon,

yup something like tat. I still prefer to think both mth real lor u know lah older generation will blame me if things go wrong w my son . Sigh! better dun give them chance to nag at me.

Tiffany,

For teething:-
Here are the signs that your baby may be teething:

Bulging gums - you'll be able to see the outline of the teeth as they try and push through his gums.

Nighttime crying and walking.
More fuss than normal.
"Clingy" behaviour.
An increase in the amount of drooling seen.
Chewing on fingers, teething rings, and other objects.
Swollen, red, inflamed gums.
Poor appetite.
Interrupted sleep.

You may also see some teething symptoms - on the whole these are fairly
harmless. For example, drool rash where a red rash can be seen on the face,
lips, chin and chest. This can be washed with warm water and a cloth and your
doctor may prescribe a lanolin ointment as treatment for this. Sometimes

other symptoms can include mild diarrhoea and a cough caused by excess saliva
dripping down the baby's throat.

Here are some good tips to use to care for your baby's teeth:

Clean your baby's mouth before the teething process. You can wipe the gums after each feeding with a warm, wet washcloth.

Take good care of the teeth once they start to come in. Some parents wrongly believe that because primary teeth are eventually replaced they are not that important - this is false as they preserve the space for the permanent teeth, not to mention help with chewing and talking.

Actively watch for cavities - if you spot any discolouration or pitting then they could be signs of cavities. Try and avoid putting your baby to sleep with milk (or even worse sweet juice) as it could lead to cavities.

In addition follow up meals with water as this helps to wash off most infant foods quite easily.

Introduce a toothbrush as soon as possible. In addition you should monitor your baby's fluoride intake as this can help prevent tooth decay. It's
also important to schedule a dental check up for your baby - shortly after the first year is a good time for the first visit.

Creating good dental practice from the start will help ensure that you baby continues good dental hygiene for years into the future.

Mel, you bring yr little one to KL? driving in or via couch?

Seriously i very tempted to do so (driving in).. but my little boy cries very badly if he is in the car too long

Mom_Yam
Tks for the useful tips. Will try to look out for these signs and practise gd dental hygiene. Issac started using those dental kit aldy? i bet Lucas wont like it. he very fussy one, cannot any hoo how touch him one hor, he will "kow pei" and get agitated.

Wah... potty training. Wonder bb feel tat we giving them too much stress?!?!?!

Hi Ladies
didn't loggin yest as took child sick leave 2 b w Ivec..he was down w slight fever & had running /blocked nose..didn't sleep e night b4..so his poor mummy & daddy as well..

Wonder whether to bring him 4 his 4th mth jab this Sat leh..cos he's much better now..though doc did advise postponing it to a wk later..any comments?

shylyn
yah, cannot take jab if sick, especially if got fever. suggest you take your doc's advice and postpone...

momyam
thanks for the info on teething, my leo is drooling like crazy and keeps stuffing his fingers into his mouth! he is also more clingy, i noticed.

pool party
mommies, i'm also pantang, think i'll wait till after 7th mth then take leo to swim.

mommies who TBF
i give my boy EBM and he is taking 180ml every 4-5 hours instead of 3-4 hours now. My hubby wants to increase the quantity, but i don't know if that's advisable cos it's not like he's demanding more. i dowan to overfeed Leo. any advice?

Tiffany,

Hahaha!!! slowly lor, i start on the fingertip "brush" on him since 2 mths coz' my PD advice. Saying that this will help him as age grew older brushing teething become a habit to him. But I only "brush" his gums after shower.

Only lately i start putting the dentinox on his gums to relieve him due to teething. which i put each time i find him cracky. i notice after putting the dentinox on him, he seems more comfi and happy.

recently my boy started sleeping on his tummy! he used to sleep on his back, then at 3mths, he started to sleep on his side, and now he's sleeping on his tummy! i'm so scared he will suffocate but my hubby said he will automatically turn his head now that their neck muscles are developed... any mommies let their bbs sleep on their tummy? am i worrying too much?

Mom yam

When I read thr the potty training website u given, then I realise that actually my CL managed to train my bb during his 1st month. Initially I was very skeptical. But it's really surprise that after that, when we do ng..ng n shh..shh, he really respond and put these into action...

However sadly, the infantcare centre don't have such practice...n we don't have much time to continue doing this with him nowadays...

So, if you have time n patience, do try it out...I feel that bb actually will feel better especially after passing motion....

fussiecat,
I envy your boy leh that he can drink so much unlike mine. At most drink only 150ml (and tats provided he's in good mood) or else, he only drinks 120ml or 100ml. I gg crazy.. Haiz..

Shylyn,
take ur doc's advice. when ur boy is feeling better, then go for the jab.

Twinkle,
Me 2. Will wait for the 2 7th mth to be over then bring my boy go swimming. If not, will sure get nag by both sides parents.

Mom yam,
Somehow, my mum has sort of like training my boy on the potty. She will let him pee after he wakes up and before bath. As for poo, he has sign showing so my mum will let him sit on the potty. Lately, my mum told me that he seems knw how to control his poo cos she would tell him to hold while she get the potty (but I brush it off cos I dun really think he can control). After reading the article, I start to believe my mum.

terrier,

tat is true infantcare dun 'make' them poo. i notice my son poo time delay liao since i sent him there last week. He used to poo then i shower him. Now they shower me first then he dun poo liao. Currently he poo in the afternoon. i m monitoring if he poo the same time everyday like he used to .

Hi Fussiecat,

My gal also like to sleep on her tummy eversince last week! I tried to turn her back to her back but within a few mins, she will turn back to her tummy. Like you, I also worried she might suffocate! But my hubby also said no problem leh.

fussiecat - my bb slps on his tummy since he is 2 mths..
happy.gif
and so far *touch wood* i dont have this prob.

Potty training,
Hmm.. what i did is to use "ng ng" when i see him once to poo poo and it helps.. but sh sh i cant control him lei.

I've also tried to "hold" when i see his signs of wanting to poo poo.. but mission failed. Hiazzzzz

my bb poo poo timing unfix and i'm trying to culture him to do it in the morn. better mai.. but also mission failed.

Thk i will invest on a potty and try to teach him. hoping i wont add pressure to his life :p

Potty training
Mom Yam
Good article.

My mom has since using similar methods when bb is ready for poo n it works. She managed to get a small potty @ her home to do so... but those @ Kiddy Palace seems quite huge, mayb no choice then ask my mom get another similar potty as well. =p

Re: Feeding bottle/Spoon
Des
Thanks 4 foto.. managed 2 get the pigeon one. Can squeeze n the food will come to the spoon. But hor, do u sterilize this?

bB sleeping on tummy
I once had tix concern too.. then read that mattress /w holes n pillow /w holes will allow bb to breathe n at least won't get suffocated n so got the BabySafe mattress and Pillow.

Evon,
I did not sterilise the bottle and the spoon cos I think it might be harmful if I sterilise it cos of the toxi it releases in due time esp now that my boy is older, I guess it should be quite ok if its not sterilise (scared if too clean, their immunity not so good)n plus, I doubt my mum will sterilise the bottle as well. I only wash it w/ the bb detergent.

re: BB sleeping on tummy
so far, i dun have this problem cos my boy dun really sleep on tummy. However, now he has already know how to flip, the flipping will disturb his slp. Had an incident previously, so now i place 2 bolsters next to him to act as a security.

twinkle

Yah, the infantcare told me they don't do potty training for infants, too young lor...

Initially when I sent my boy to infantcare, his poo pattern oso changed, less no.of times or no poo...make us worried. Noawdays think he more settled liao, would only have one big poo in late afternoon.

How long is your bb in the infantcare liao? Is he adapting well?

Hi, 1sttime mum

Saw u in the BP purchase for the Clanduelar Cream?

IS Aloe Vera better than Clanduelar cream?

Is it for bb ezcema?

Tiffany,

next sun I wont be able to make it coz I m bringing my boy for his 5th mth jab next sat and will expect to have fever the next day so better stay at home. the following sun will be fine.

Mel,
Ya...the like new...i thot just rent and try out 1st then will join the BP if I decided to buy.

Momyam,
I already bring my boy in n out of Msia a few times liao. usually is a day trip. have not try overnight trip. planning in sep
happy.gif
..so far so good. and his 1st trip, our car broke down at the highway...haha...anyway he still enjoy the trip

sleeping on tummy
Keith sleep on his tummy since he is 5wks old...so far ok lor...even in his pram...I oso put him sleep on tummy...and he can sleep very long....3 to 5 hrs in the day....I tried to let him sleep on his back, he the most sleep 15mins nia. think he is a timid boy, very easy get shock!

re sleeping on tummy
i'm so glad i'm not the only one! he prefer sleeping on his tummy now, when i turn him around, he will make noise.

re potty training
wow! i didn't know can potty train them at such young age! the other day the caregiver at the infant care proudly told me that she's training my boy to pee and that's he's quite responsive to the training. i almost roll my eyes cos i tot it's too young to toilet train them now... but seems like it can be done...

making passport
ET, i haven't make passport for my boy yet! what;s the first step hah?

fussiecat,

1st step...taking pic...I use a white cloth put on his bed. position him and keep snaping, pick the best, download, resize and submit online...after 3 business day, ur passport is ready for collection liao.

momyam, my boy where got tame!!!!...u have not seen his true self yet...haha

recently, I rented a jumperoo from my friend..wow...he simply love it so much...can jump n jump non-stop.

Potty training,
After reading that site, my bb poo. I quickly found the bb potty take off his pant and diaper and put him on it. Then I start to go "hmmmmmm, hmmmmmm..."

Guess what, he start crying.

I think I will have to try again tomorrow.

terrier,

he only just started and today is his 4th day. so far so good and on 2nd day i kena 'complain' that he likes to play water and refused to come out fm his bath. hahaha

Yr bb adapt ok? i heard bb adapt fast but i still KS i visit him everyday lunch hour :p

hi babe,

u r not alone my boy also hv not flip and he is 15wks this wk . Dun worry every bb is an individual they will flip when they ready

Twinkle
My bb is adapting well in the infantcare. Think one good thing I sent him in early as he get use to the caregivers there. Around this time, he starts recognising people and refuse to let my parents n inlaws to carry when he sees them during wkends
sad.gif

Fussiecat
Wow, so good that the caregiver at your bb's infantcare do potty training....

potty training:

my mom is training Sherlene on this also.. so far for poo poo only..
gotta catch their timing loh so it's easier.

Yesterday morning when she wakes up, I saw a corner of her right eye is red. I thot she ganna eye infection. Mom say observe her first. Then last evening when I reach home, still have the redness so bring her to see our family doc. Luckily the family doc say it's not infection. She must have accidently poke her eye herself when rubbing. phew.. this morning, no redness le... make me so worried...

terrier,

aiyo tis morning he is suddenly awake b4 i leave and he sulks lor. i hv to pacify him and tell him i m coming visiting him later.

nix has learned how to flip at 5th month, now can flip both side. He's trying to crawl most of the times but failed..and also trying to sit up by his own.. so busy with him..

dun worry if ur babies cant do this and that.. individual babies are different, take ur time to let them show u wat can they do
happy.gif

flipping
K only started flipping from tummy to back 2 days ago and from back to tummy yesterday!! last night, i kept hearing 'complaining' sounds from her cot and i had to go 'rescue' her cos she flipped onto her tummy in her sleep and had no space to roll back!!
happy.gif

irene
good thing that yr bb's eye is ok, i totally understand how u feel. K keeps scratching her ear until it bleeds!! happened already 3 times in the last month. she would wake up at night crying and i'd go carry her but she wouldn't stop, then after i switched on the light, i saw a small pool of blood in her ear, really panicked
sad.gif
thought she might have an ear infection that is bothering her but realised it's just that she rubs her ears when sleepy and her thumbnail was v sharp, now we have to cut her nails every other day. seeing yr bb in pain is really one of the worst feelings in the world
sad.gif

Hi gals,

Re: Potty train
My bb is potty train for his poo since 2nd month all thanks to my mom. My mom feels its cleaner this way. However, he can be quite fussy on the position that you hold him, so I get frustrated when he refused to let me "ng ng" and it could get quite messy as his urine will spray on the floor. Sometimes i rathe he poo on his diapers :p

Re:Flip
My bb had learned to flip about 3 weeks ago. Now he can flip and flip continuously from one end of the cot to the other end but he only know to flip to his right, doesn't know how to flip to the left yet.
He is trying to learn to crawl now but he did it like a caterpillar without lifting his butt..hahah

Re: bb weight
My bb only weigh 6.6kg at 4 months.. haiz.. PD said he should be drinking about 150ml but he simply couldn't finish so much.
My guess is that he is teething. He is showing most of the signs that mom_yam had stated.

Re: Sarong
Any mummy here let you bb sleep sarong? My bb sleep in the sarong everyday and night. But all my colleagues said no good to sleep in sarong at night. We find him difficult to sleep if he don't have sarong. Hubby said ok since we all grew up in sarong.

This is my Leo more than 2 wks ago... taken on 31/7. He lost some weight liao and isn't so chubby anymore, that's why my hubby wanted to increase his EBM intake.
490311.jpg

Fussiecat:
yr bb like that not chubby.. then mine will be skinny boy haha! mine also weight down when he is 4th mth.. i thk is normal. he use to be very fat but now not very fat alr. dont overfeed your bb. doc says chubby bb maybe cute but will lead to obese when they grew old lei.

smurfy:
As for Sarong, what they say is partly correct. if you plan to go travel or stay out late. yr bb will be hard to handle him coz' he will need sarong to slp.

but accordingly to some pple, they say sarong bb will have better in maths. dunno how true.

i guess is up to individual.

mom_yam,

I am also afraid that bb cannot sleep if no sarong but luckily so far, he manage to sleep with my patting (but wrist pain loh)

Smurfy, ya i understand what u mean.. my boy slps a mixture of sarong and via patting.. so using either method he still be able to slp. i guess u can try a couple of night w/o sarong and see whether he can slp. if not, i guess sarong will be his thingy.

mom yam
hehe, alot of pple tell me he 'sumo' mah... yah, i'm oso afraid i'll overfeed so i'll wait till tomorrow to check w PD, cos tmr he gng for 4th mth jab.

smurfy
alot of pple tell me that sarong not good, but my mother told me i slp in sarong till i was 5!! and i turned out okay wat! so no need to worry lah! anyway, my bb sleep in cot, cos i want him to be able to sleep independently.

swimming for BB with ecezema
read somewhere that it is not adv to bring bb with ecezema swimming as the chlorine will further dry their skin and worsen the skin condition.

mummies might want to take note and be cautious abt it.
