Yeap. very excited but hopefully can deliver naturally so that I can breastfeed immediately after the baby is born. My only concern for C-section is that I will be too sedated to breastfeed to at least a few hours.

BTW, you have to sterilise your breastpump parts and bottles everytime before you use it. It is a MUST!!

Its better to apply nipple cream. BM or colustrum not enough, if you have sore nipples. I tried both Medela Purelan and Avent nipple cream. Personally, i think the Avent one is better. The Medela one is too thick.

My milk now (6 days after birth) is yellowish..is this transitional milk? when will mature milk start to set in? will the flow increase significantly when changing from transitional milk to mature milk?
 
Baby Haowen is back home - happy and healthy! Thanks for all the concern. The ward nurse was telling us to keep bb hydrated else jaundice might come back. Was thinking whether his jaundice may have to do with my TBF-ing him in the initial period and he did not get to drink enough...BF really not easy and seem like most mummies here are supplementing with FM, like myself. Actually felt quite relief when I decide to supplement...

Hi reenie, according to old folks, it's ok to celebrate gal's full mth later but for boy's must be either earlier or on actual date. We have more or less fixed our gal's full mth on the 11/09 and gg for Neo Garden. Lib will be holding her gal's full mth this weekend and let's hear from her about Neo Garden's buffet after tt! cheers...

Hi mybabydream, yes..the Friso is for infants. But I may switch to Mamil Gold cos my cl says her poo poo like cereal, could be Friso not suitable so we are monitoring these few days. And yes, every bottle must be sterilised. As for feeding, my gal will only sleep if she has enaf milk. And when 1 feeding, she will still cry for milk and we will make another for her till she's full and satisfied. A beansprout pillow is to 'Ya1 Jin1'. TMC dun give bathtubs.

How much transitional milk do you get now? you pump every two hours? me only pump about every 3-4 hours leh...btw when did you discharge from TMC? maybe we 'bumped' into each other there hehe i was staying on the 5th floor
 
hi mummytobe, the transitional milk will come in bet 5th - 10th day. It's not as yellowish as the colostrum, but still quite so. U'll know mature milk sets in when the initial flow is like porridge water (foremilk), followed by creamy white (hindmilk). As for the flow, mine did increase.. :p

wendy, i also think the bumps started after we put him off aircon, cos he sleeps better without.. aiyoh, dunno how to balance... thinking of putting aircon back cos we adults also feel v hot at night...

Just want to check if the aircon is directly blowing the child and what is the temp of the aircon? Is the baby swaddled ?
cos all these factors might contribute their comfortable level in the room.

so glad to be in the circle again.. in office i so sian leh.. cannot 'talk' to u all can only surf on weekends.
miso, so wasted leh.. i visited parentcraft and uma cleared my ducts for me.. breast was getting engorged and i feel that i cldnt express much milk.. i thot my avent pump no good. but now still okay i can pump 60 to 70ml every 3 hours. so far trying to coordinate with bb feeding time so that he can latch.. yesterday only managed to coordinate 1 feed.. right after that feed, immediately womb feel painful and feel the contraction of the womb.

yes, polyclinic gives free jap except for hep b. the only catch is u gotta wait so long in the polyclinic. if u have a maid etc, maybe can ask her to wait then u travel there when the queue number is nearer? i not sure yet.. maybe i will go polyclinic cos the last time my daughter jap at GP,, not cheap and also not as if no need to wait.

my ds is taking mamex. so far okay. recently his poo is yellowish colour. he has got jaundice too and he got g6pd deficiency. i was pretty worried for a while but nurse said just be careful of mothballs and dun take certain medicine and prevent taking chinese herbs.
 
hi tulip, my son also g6pd.. guess it's a minor concern since it won't affect their normal living.. so ur son is on partial FM/BM? my son doesn't seem to like bottle feed, unless he's really hungry... need to get him used to bottle else will never be able to go out without him! I dun intend to BF in public, so will give him bottle when outside...

tulip, u very good, only 10 days after delivery n things are looking up for u... for me, though the regular routine are setting in place, son cries more often nowadays n doesn't get to sleep as easily..so different type of stress now...

Hi tulip, I pump as and when, cos sometimes the pumping time coincides with my meal time and/or ds coming bk time and/or tv time! haha... so sometimes will only pump after 5 - 6 hrs.. ok ok, I know shouldnt be this long interval.. but I partly also lazy la.. haha.. btw, how's ur gal taking her mei mei's arrival?

My cl slps with my gal in the other rm w/o air con too. Got one night I suggest she on the aircon cos outside air v. chilling and the next day, my gal seems to hv some 'sound' coming out from her throat.. maybe phelgms or wat.. then cl suggest not on-ing the air con. But after confinement, when she bunks in with us in master bedroom will hv to sleep in air con liao. heee.. just switch the aircon at 25 degrees and wear long sleeve pants and shirt lor.

Hi sweetpea, welcome to our thread. My cl does everything for me. From taking care of my gal to my needs and also doing hsework like sweep and mop the floor, wash the laundry, cook for my hb and ds. She's a great help!

i put my girl in air con room, even day time. For day time, i set the temp. to 26/27 degree. Nite time usually around 27/28 degree. Depend on the weather. No direct blowing, i placed her in a play gym near to my window. i keep the room cooling b'cos i realise she is more calm and comfortable in the air con room. Initially i placed her in her own room, sleep in her bb cot with fan blowing, but she tends to wake up more easily due to noises.

Must remember, during nite time, use a piece of cloth to wrap her up. Day time i just leave her with her clothing on

you can try it! its a must have when u bf ok? no matter which brand u decide upon, choose a lanolin based one if you scare bb will latch on and eat the cream accidentally.

i bought the beansprout pillow for my girl too. Its very useful for me esp. because my area alot of planes and construction going on, and sometimes due to loud noise, or sudden noise, bb will suddenly "jump" in her sleep. I place the pillow on her chest during day time when she nap, esp. when its not in my air con bed room.

nt sure if ur pd told u.. if it is son, that means it is inherited fr the mother. meaning we are either also g6pd deficient or we are carriers. i think with the previous delivery, now i not so garang gabo.. so a bit relaxed. also now i have the CL as well as the maid. i think my CL quite relax leh cos the maid is doing all the cleaning etc. so i told maid better to learn the skill of bathing bb etc fr the CL.

i dun put him in aircon room. cos i notice this one doesnt perspire as much as dd also CL dun recommend. in case future bb get asthma easily.

btw, i went to littledreamers to get the warming shampoo and body wash. i dunno if there meant to be any effect but i think the dafongai is better, cheap and good.. kinda regretted buying esp the sales staff wasnt very helpful over there.

how much for buffet ah? i din do any for dd so i dun think i will do for ds too. just the regular cakes and vouchers.

btw, any of u started malay massage? i havent activated mine yet cos my piles still hurts bad and will only do so after my gynae visit

hi tulip, i only know now that i'm a carrier... :p if i'm already deficient i wld have known earlier.

will air con lead to asthma? my boy doesn't sleep as well in aircon, but he perspires easily.. so i trying out aircon but place him near window that's slightly open... waste electricity, but hope it's a solution till he's older.

a bit regretting not getting confinement lady or someone elderly to help out, bcos sometimes when bb cries me n hb dunno how to pacify him n end up all 3 of us are fustrated.. other than that, we're actually ok without CL.. think if having 2nd kid will have to get both maid n CL liao... hard to handle 2 kids at the same time.

the pd said if we are carriers we shld also take precautions but i have been taking chinese herbs all my life! so nothing has happened.

asthma due to dust. in aircon room tend to have more dust mah. unless got air purifier.

i decided to get CL cos the last time i was so fatique even though my mom helped out. in the end, all 3 adults ie me, my hubby and my mom are very tired. so this time, i think no pt save the $, recovery of the energy is more impt.. so u see.. now i even got time to read magazines and books.. at least this mth! haha

outta curiosity, how much can u gals pump? when i first started, could only get like 10-20ml but managed to up to 50-60ml by the next day... it has stayed at that level for abt 2 days now... i'm definitely no zoe tay!

My BF output v pathetic one, each time only 20-30ml. Have now come to term that ss unlikely to increase that much cos my boi is a lazy sucker (suck-suck-sleep type). Whatever I can get, I'll give him loh. Better than nothing mah...As for formula, I'm using Similac.

Re massage
I have started my malay massage since yesterday. Can see my tummy going down. The masseur also helping to clear my milk ducts and upper backache. Mine costs me $70 per 1-hr session and will be doing it for 7 consecutive days.

Re Confinement. I'm also using the Da Fong Ai to bathe...but only allow to do so twice so far. As for hair, been using the NO RINSE Shampoo. The effect is actually quite good. Hair felt clean but need to do a lot. 1 bottle (abt $12) can only last 3 washes.....

Joyful: Mine will be a bb boy. Feeling a bit heavy now so climbing up stairs is quite a nightmare. But also rather excited. Who's your gynae? Mine's Dr. Cheng and now I am still wondering if I should opt for epidural or not.

Hi musicgal, I started my massage on the 4th day after my delivery. 2mlr will be my last massage, total 7 days. I started on 17th, 18th, then Fri she fell ill, weekends she dun do massage, then continue on monday till 2mlr. Each session approx an hr, $50 each session. No minimum sessions or package, up to u. Her name is Mdm. Norimah HP No. 97853413. Can tell her Cris @ punggol recommended. heee... if normal delivery, 1 week is fine. C-section must wait for 2 weeks at least. Also if you use epidural, must tell her so she wont press too hard on ur spinal area.

As for milk supply, initially I also only pump out abt 10 - 20 ml.. now increased to 80 - 90 ml.
 
hmm, haven't expressed for a few days.. today tried, n found that the amt i can pump out has reduced significantly. think prob bcos i've started to nurse regularly on both breasts (previously only direct latch on 1 side cos sore nip on the other). Well, guess so long as he is satisfied with each feeding...

musicgal, dun be worried about expressing too little. If direct latching is satisfying ur kid, then ur supply can meet his demand already. If u want to store, try expressing in between feeds. The supply should increase soon, but take note to keep up with the expressing else may get engorgement...


miso, yah, dunno why they now also fly at night? i find them v noisy, but Zephan sleeps throughout the din!

GEH provides - 1 pk of Pampers Newborn diapers, Pigeon wet wipes, Tissue Paper, a shirt to wear during his stay.
You must bring - mittens &amp; bootees to keep them warm in hosp, 1 set of clothes for discharge receiving blanket... + 1 more which i forgot to bring... a cloth nappy to wrap him first before the receiving blanket)

For mummy:
GEH provides - Hosp gown &amp; first few pc of maternity pad &amp; disposable bed liner.
You must bring - Own maternity pads, disposable panties.
(btw, i did not wear any nursing bra or pyjamus, cos there's lots blood flow, better use hosp gown, no need to wash :p)

me starting my massage tomorrow.. dunno too soon or not, but ML advice better to be early as she could help to massage my breast or clear any blocked duct (if any)

may i know when u all started pumping milk... now my 5th day, have not start pumping yet, afraid it'll sore my nip for the next BF

Actually, I think when your baby puts on more weight, he will be able to suck better. So no worries

Usually newborns can sleep very well cos they immediately goes to non-rem sleep without going through stages like adult. Once they reach 3-6 months, they will start to go through from light sleep to deep sleep and they will be able to tell from daytime to nighttime when they see light. Therefore, it will be harder to coax them to sleep in the day time if you do not have a dark room. Of course it depends on how sensitive your baby is to his/her environment.

It gives me great pleasure to announce the arrival of Vone's boy boy at MAH. He weighs 3.9kgs. Vone is in room 273C.

A brief birth account from Vone...she will give more details when she is back. She had show this morning and was admitted to MAH. At noon, she was dilated 4cm, but due to fetal distress, baby's heartbeat was dropping quite quickly, she went for emergency ceasarean. Turns out that baby had the umbilical cord around the neck, the cause of the baby's heartbeat dropping quickly. So thankfully, both mother and baby are now doing fine at MAH.

I had lunch with Vone yesterday and went walk walk around with her. Must be all that walking that triggered off her labour today.

the noise from planes bothers my hubby more than baby or me. Baby loves this kind of noise right? As for me, i grew up in Hougang, immune liaozzz

Uma's massage very painful right? i was yelping when she massaged for me..wah lau, press until so hard..i also tot the avent isis no good, now using medela mini electric. so noisy! like grass cutter..going to develop earache soon. can't even watch tv cause cannot hear any thing above the din. Me like you, also trying to coordinate with bb feeding time so that she can latch.. so far only manage to co-ordinate about 2 bf session a day. the rest of the time i pump lor..

most of the time, she falls asleep after sucking on one side. So i have to pump out the other side to feed her when she awakes.

i usually pump one side more than the other, baby tends to latch on wrongly on one side. the other side ok..think its my positioning, left arm not enough strength heh. ya i also find that the side baby latches on, doesn't produce as much milk as the other side when i express both sides when baby is not feeding ie. when she is sleeping. the side that i express more often, produces more milk. The side that baby latches on normally, i can't pump as much from there. On the latch side, i can only express about 30-40ml. On the 'pump more' side, i can express about 45-60ml. I express only every 4 hours or so. Is it true if you express more frequently (ie. every 2 hours) the BM supply will increase?

Btw, What does it mean to be g6pd deficient or carriers? my baby's blood test results show that she has g6pd present. But she got jaundice also leh..now every morning and evening must 'sun' her for about 10 mins. if no sun, must put under fluoroscent light.

I called Mdm Rohaya during my stay in TMC and from there arranged for her to come 1 week later. She said to pay her at end of 7 days. So far, I find her quite good. My tummy is now smaller though still got someway to go.
