Anyone doing IVF in 2020?

Hi Hariet

Do you mind sharing why did you decide to go private and how did you come to choose Alpha amongst many others? I'm not sure if we've depleted the 15k medisave limit, having done so many cycles already. We thought of going to Dr Loh SF at Thomson FC, last consultation in 2018 it was in the range of 20k per fresh cycle.
I have been reading a lot of reviews of Dr Tan HH on this forum and on SG IVF FB group. I also personally have a friend who BFP at age 39 on her very first cycle and transfer as his patient at KKH. So for private, I decided on him already from the start. Also I had a bit balance Medisave so I wanted to use it on private to offset the cost. My rationale was if I tried 3rd cycle in public hospital, I would still need to top up additional cash, so might as well go to private.

I was told that based on my FTS+Scans, my default age group risk (before results) is 1:519 for Down Syndrome Risk. But after my blood test & scan done, its shows I was 1:860 instead. My Free Beta HCG level & PAPP-A Level are all normal. Baby Nose Bridge is seen and normal so they saying I am at mid risk. They are more worried if there's an absent of Nasal Bridge at 13 weeks which raised up to high risk. NT level in UK reading stated 3.5mm is the limit but in SG, it's 2.5mm.. I know its better in the scale for my age, as I was reading online, ladies of my age risk is 1:820 for Down Syndrome..

I instantly fell in love seeing the lil one on scan.. the tiny arms, the yawns it shows, woken up on screen when hearing daddy's voice... it was so beautiful... I really hope and pray everything goes smoothly on next scan & Harmony Blood test.. i saw a lady crying and heard that she was 1:18 chances for it.. it broke my heart hearing that.. knowing that my risk were more than 100, i was still worried.. sigh...
Hi ! May i know whats ur free beta hcg n ppap? Just got my oscar result and OB said my blood test drop my ratio to high risk t21 thanks!

There's no harm in seeking second opinion with a private specialist or change to another government hospital. It also depends if you still have faith in your current doctor and would like to continue with her.

I failed 2 IVF cycles in KK (2 retrievals and 2 transfers) and decided to switch to private (Alpha) this year. I still have a frozen blastocyst in KKH but didn't transfer it over. I did another retrieval at Alpha and currently waiting for my FET. Although private is more expensive, and we lose out on govt co-funding, we can still use our Medisave (provided we have not depleted the 15k Medisave limit).
Can you share the costs please? Thanks

I'm having this strange looking discharge, it's like clumps/chunks and it's black in colour.. used to be white but after FET it gets darker and blacker. I am currently on Estrofem and Crinone Gel. Successful FET, now 6 weeks 1 day pregnant.

Anyone experienced this before? Is it normal?

Hi! I think is normal because I got the same black chunks also!

The black discharges are the residues from the crinone gel.. it happens when the absorption is not much... I used to have it during my 1st IVF cycle.. didnt walk much to allow absorption into the vaginal wall.. which cause the scary discharge.

But during my 2nd IVF, i walked alot after insertion of the cream.. like doing a stationary marching in front of the TV and for about half hr.. no such discharges.. hehehe..

Hope this helps!

Did my transfer on Saturday. I dont have cramps or bleeding. Am I out?
Its too early to know.. don't base on symptoms to know if u are out or not.. few days before beta blood test u can do pregnancy test at home. Different people will have different symptoms.. for me, i had alot of symptoms on my #1 cycle ivf but unsuccessful. My 2nd cycle i only had a sharp poke/pinch 30mins after transfer then no other symptoms which ended up successful.. :) Take it easy, rest well!

Hi ladies, I'm in my 2ww. I had increased sweating days & nights, unsure if is normal symptoms. kind of worried :(
Hi dear, it could be the drugs like progesterone thay causes this. I used to have hot flushes at night too.. but its normal... Try keeping urself well hydrated ya.

I didn’t realized the progesterone might have caused. thanks for your reminder for hydration. I just noticed my skin gets drier.

Usually when our body produce estrogen and progesterone, when its balance, u wont get such hot flushes.. the main culprit of causing hot flushes is actually low level of estrogen. Since we are taking additional progesterone in our system, its not balance with the estrogen level alrdy produce in our system... progesterone helps support the pregnancy.. hang in there, it will go off soon..

Hi dear I’m considering to change to sgh care after 2 failed ivf with private.... do u mind share with me what happen at sgh that caused you to be disappointed?
Yes I also had 1 failed ivf with SGH, the experience there was not fantastic for sure. Waiting time is long (few hours each time) nurses are okay (Not all are friendly and helpful, but acceptable) Going to do the 2nd IVF in late July this year. And been thinking another option to go Alpha‘s THH.

Hi ladies. This is my 1st post.

I've been with SGH since early 2020. 2 Ivf with Sgh Care. Both unsuccessful.

1) I still have 2 blastocysts frozen at SGH. I'm really hesitating whether to go ahead with Frozen Transfer. If again unsuccessful, my hopes will be completely dashed. Anyone here can advise?

2) anyone knows, if I just do one embryo transfer, will my success rate be higher than transferring two embryos ? I've doctor (mine is Dr Yong), but answer has been uncertain.

3) I also realise that not many in this forum, go to SGH. The preference seems to be KK and NUH. Is there any undesirable concerns with SGH Care?

My cousin in law and her friend use SGH Care under Dr Yu. They are very happy with the services. Both BFP after previous miscarriages not at SGH. KKH to me sounds like mass production and therefore many bad experiences shared. I’ve not heard much about NUH.

Whether your blastocyst implant or not have a myriad of factors - quality, endometrium health and/or immunological disorders. With regards to no of embryo transfers, my doctors in the US are very particular about it and strongly recommends for only 1.

I heard that Alpha now has many patients and sometimes the appointment with THH is super brief. However, as compared to govt hospitals, they definitely have better technologies and labs. It is important to have a good lab since that’s where your embabies are made.

Hi, can anyone recall exactly on which days were the scans scheduled? My wife and I have been scheduled for IVF with KKH in July and we are hoping we can plan our leave application in advanced to minimise disruption from work. Thank you!

For my case also with kkh, the first scan (on a friday) is a week after the stimulation injections started, followed by monday and then tuesday. usually takes about 3 scans. after the final scan you will purchase the trigger injection and wait for phone call for instruction when to inject. 36 hours after trigger injection will be egg retrieval for your wife.
you will need to accompany her and fetch her home after that.
your wife will be given abt 3 weeks mc from day of egg retrieval

hope this helps!

when your wife menses first come on day one (full flow) call kkh. Theywill ask her to come down for a scan to see if it’s good to embark the fresh cycle. When confirmed yes, they will prescribe jabs and teach how to inject at the tummy area. First visit I recommend husband to go with her if you are doing the jab for her.

thereafter every 2-3 days they will ask your wife to do scan to monitor the follicles grow. It very hard to predict how many times your wife need to go down to kkh.For me, I try to reach 730am to get a ticket and usually for me it will be done by 10am so I can rush home and work without taking leave (wfh)

once the follicle are grown big enough they will give jabfor Trigger shot (usually mid cycle is the egg retrieval). On egg retrieval day husband need to come with wife, wife do the procedure while husband produce sperm.
After egg retrieval your wife will be given 2-3 weeks mc. Depends on the embryo situation and number of eggs took doc will decide if it’s fresh embryo transfer or froze all embryos for transfer next time

oops sorry.. forgot abt the initial scan! and also i’m on the long protocol, need to do down regulation first. so my scan frequency might be different!

Thank you so much for this :) So it seems like after the initial scan, the next scan will be 1 week after the injections started and then 2 and 3 days thereafter! So there were a total of 4 visits to KKH before ET?

Thank you so much for sharing :) Did you have a 7 days break between the initial scan and the next scan (after injections started) or was it once every 2 -3 days after the initial scan? I do see most people saying there will be a 7 days break between first and second scan followed by subsequent scans every 2-3 days depending on follicle size. Just want to clarify ^^

Hello oh usually after first scan and given the jabs they will schedule the next visit to kkh for scan about 5-7 days later. Usually first week after take jab no need go hospital the next sub week will need to go scan quite frequent

for me is 5 visits before egg retrieval.
on egg retrieval day is another visit, and after that (3 to 5 days) later another visit for embryo transfer

It depends on the protocol and results of initial scans. For me it was 3rd day of menses then directly on 10,11th day of injections. They give MC also if u request.

Hi hopefuldad, could you share how long was your wait time before being scheduled for IVF in July? When was the first consultation? I am going to KKH for IVF too but am worried that the current wait time is very long. My first appointment (on polyclinic referral) to KK is in July, even before the appointment with KKIVF.

Thanks!

Hello! Our first appointment was in end April and they called us in May to arrange for the counselling in June and the IVF appointment in July. So it's about 3 months for us. I hope this helps!

Depends on the injections given. Ganirelix or organultran are use to prevent the eggs from maturing just yet.. i had that injected on CD3 as CD2 was a sunday & my Dr was on leave. So they schedule CD3- CD5 on Ganirelix then on CD5 they call in to do another scan and started on the Menopur & Gonal F injections.. and the subsequent visits were 4 days apart depending on how ur eggs responded to the drugs and if there is a need to titrate the dose accordingly. If the response is well, the scan will be frequent like 3 days apart..

Hi all im starting my 2nd cycle in July. For short antagonist protocol, is Menopur usually given at start of stimulation of in the middle?
Hi dear,

I started with Ganirelix for the 1st 3 days starting D2, then on Menopur 75iu & Gonal F 175iu till the end.. roughly 1/3 of the way..

For those who bfp before what’s the symptoms during tww?

Hi dear,

You can read my journey on the BFP IVF TWW.. all the best!! ❤️

Anyone here did cerclage (stitch the cervix)? Is it painful after the procedure? how long did your pregnancy last?

i had another miscarriage at 17 weeks 5 day. Doctor said due to incompetence cervix.

might need to do cerclage for my next pregnany. :(

Hi I'm new to this forum but TTC for 3 years already. Wanted to know if there's anyone who has no luck with KKH but succeeded in private hosp after that?

Did 3 rounds of IUI at Thomson medical, 1 SO-IUI with injections and 1 IVF cycle with 3 transfers at KKH but all failed.

Dr couldn't find a solution to our unexplained infertility. My menses was regular and i ovulate every mth, no cramps, no blockage of tube, hormones lvl ok, no problem with my husband's SA too but if wanna be picky it's probably the 1% morphology but the volume is a lot so 1% of that huge volume should be enough. We already did all possible scans and tests in the diff hospitals. During last round of FET at KKH, i was asked to scrap my lining which is supposedly helpful for implantation (more receptive) but it failed too. KKH then advised us to go through PGS testings on our blood/genetics in KKH and results were fine so they asked to do PGS in another new cycle to check quality of our fertilised blastocysts before FETs. Earliest date for this is 2022 January because PGS testings are usually done in the lab in NUH but now under renovation.

Used up the co-fundings for restructured hospital so now getting 2nd opinion at Virtus fertility centre with Roland Chieng. Can only use remaining medisave to offset the bill if we are going private. Still in the midst of deciding where to go next.
Any thoughts on that?

The wait for IVF wasn't very long but sometimes the consultation appointment to see the Dr could be 1-2 mths wait. As you are going there for the first time, you may be asked to do lots of scans to check for any possible problems and you need to go through the counselling session before starting IVF. Prepare to take multiple MCs off work for a couple of scans before FET.

I think the long wait is usually the waiting time for each "station" at KKH because scannings / counter / dr review / pharmacy / blood test are all different stations so imagine getting Q number for each station all in a day (at least 3-4 stations a day). Hope you are already on the way to have a baby and all the best!

Hi, I failed once at NUH and 2 times at KK and thinking about private too. Can you share your expirience at Virtus and Dr. Roland?
