Watery Fun at LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort Water Park’s Splash Carnival (review)

While my son (who will soon turn six) is not the greatest fan of water, he recently developed a liking to water playgrounds and parks. So, when we heard that the annual Splash Carnival at LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort Water Park was back with even more exciting water thrills and entertainment, we packed our bags and headed over the causeway for a weekend of aquatic fun.

Getting to LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort

Located at Iskandar Puteri in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort is easily accessible by car or taxi via the Tuas Second Link (which is nearer to the LEGOLAND® parks), the Woodlands Causeway, or via one of the cross-border bus services (Causeway Link, SBS Transit, and so on).

Alternatively, you can travel into Johor Bahru by train. We did this and found it a convenient and fuss-free way to avoid lengthy queues at the immigration. This is especially important if you are travelling with young children or older people. From the CIQ Complex, we crossed over to the JB City Square mall via the link bridge and took a 20-minute Grab car ride to our accommodation, Somerset Medini Iskandar Puteri, to deposit our luggage. After that it was an easy five to seven-minute stroll over to LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort where the Water Park is located.

An Action-Packed 5-Week Extravaganza at the Splash Carnival

From 4 July to 4 August 2024, the Splash Carnival at LEGOLAND® Water Park promises an ultimate splashdown with thrilling water games, fun-filled activities, live entertainment, including a special guest performance by Korean star Han Byul.

From water games to LEGO building bonanzas, treasure hunts, live performances and Meet and Greet sessions with LEGO characters, there is something for everyone to enjoy. With 10 different activities happening throughout the day, you can choose to test your beach limbo skills, kick up some fun in the sand, and score goals.

For something less strenuous, you can build and race your own LEGO boat at the Build-A-Boat station. The kid loved this activity so much we stayed there for more than half an hour each time we visited.

Take a break from the activities and catch live performances, groove to catchy pop tunes in the water and take part in Aqua Zumba. One not to miss — the Splash Carnival Parade — a dazzling affair that is available only from Fridays to Sundays. You can also catch LEGO characters wandering about throughout the day and snag a photo with your favourite one.

Over 20 Water Attractions and Slides at LEGOLAND® Water Park

As one of the region’s largest water parks, with more than 20 water attractions and slides, LEGOLAND® Water Park is the perfect place to have fun and cool off with family and friends. Kids especially will love the LEGO-themed decorations and structures that add a unique and playful touch to the water park.

Between the interactive water play structures, water slides, and rides, we were spoilt for choice. We decided to seek refuge from the blazing hot afternoon sun at the DUPLO® Splash Safari. This DUPLO®-inspired water playground has slides and interactive DUPLO creatures to keep little ones entertained. It was the perfect introductory activity for my boy as he could wade around without fear of going under the water as he played with floating foam LEGO pieces.

Once he was sufficiently comfortable in the water, we went to explore one of the park’s most eye-catching interactive water play structures, the Joker Soaker. This features an engaging play area with multiple levels, and slides that cater to different age groups and thrill-seekers.

I thought my son would be eager to go down one of the spiral covered slides. However he shied away from them as neither my husband nor I were allowed to accompany him on these slides. He busied himself with the gentler, non-covered slides on ground level instead.

He also took extra care to avoid walking anywhere near or under the 300-gallon bucket that promised to spill and soak, for fear of being splashed — something he has hated since he was a baby.

Loving the Build-A-Raft River

After he developed a newfound love for the lazy river during a recent staycation, the kid couldn’t wait to get into the Build-A-Raft River. The Water Park’s version of a lazy river, this has floating foam LEGO pieces that kids can play with. Since my son was neither tall enough to walk in the pool nor swim in it, we pushed him along in a float as he collected as many pieces of foam LEGO as he could.

Our next adventure was just as relaxing and fun. At the upper grounds of the park, we spent some time relaxing in the Wave Pool, bobbing up and down with the ebb and flow of the water as a live DJ spun catchy pop and dance tunes in the background.

After this, we were ready to tackle the more thrilling slides. Our first stop: the family-friendly Red Rush. Here, up to six people sit on a giant tube and slide down a 312-feet long curving track. Every ride is a slightly different experience, depending on how many persons are riding and where they sit.

My thrill-seeker son was addicted to this! We went rode it countless times, each time sitting in a slightly different formation to get a different experience. My son did not quite enjoy the Brick Blaster as much though. While this is similar to the Red Rush, it swings, sways, and slides just a touch more vigorously. Perhaps it was just a little too wild for his young heart.

Convenient Facilities For All Within and Outside The Park

LEGOLAND® Water Park has convenient and accessible facilities to cater to a family’s whole day of fun. Lockers are located just outside the changing rooms, making it easy to deposit our valuables, or retrieve an item. Towels are available for rent. You can also rent a private and air-conditioned gazebo to rest in throughout the day.

Meal times at the Water Park were a breeze, with two cafes serving different cuisines to choose from. We had chicken wings, nuggets, ice cold drinks and ice cream at the Brick Cafe next to the Joker Soaker. We didn’t get a chance to try the Beach Grill, but the burgers and hot dogs sure looked delicious.

Last but not least, what’s a holiday without a souvenir to remind you of the great time you’ve had? The Surf Shop carries exclusive LEGOLAND® branded merchandise such as towels, backpack, mugs, and more. And of course there are aisles of LEGO play sets to bag home for family and friends, or, even yourself! Finally, in case you forgot to bring the necessities, you can grab sunscreen, sunglasses, and floats here.

Fun Outside the Park

Outside the resort, the nearby Medini Mall offers shopping and dining options to keep you busy after the parks close. The mall has familiar restaurants and cafes such as Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, The Chicken Rice Shop and more. It also has a large supermarket with child-sized trolleys and a small indoor playground to keep little ones entertained. And if that’s not enough, there is an engaging play area and playground that runs down the length of the mall, as well as a mini arcade.

Tickets to Splash Carnival and LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort Parks

We enjoyed the park so much that we stayed until closing time. We left exhausted, but with our hearts full. Now we’re looking forward to the next time we’ll be able to cross the causeway for another adventure at the LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort Water Park!

Tickets to the Splash Carnival are available on the LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort website. Buy a 1-day Water Park Ticket if you’re planning to spend all day here, or a 1-Day Triple Park Pass that allows you access to the LEGOLAND® Theme Park, Water Park and the SEA LIFE Aquarium. What’s more, you enjoy an exclusive perk as a Singaporean guest — a free upgrade to an Annual Pass (T&Cs apply) that allows you to visit the three attractions for a year, along with a line-up of awesome benefits such as discounts, exclusive updates, and experiences.
