Mother’s Day Eats 2013
Ahhhh. Mum. The first woman in your life, the one who picks you up when you fall (yes, even now), the one whom you turn to for comfort when it feels like the world is against you, knowing that you will find sanctuary in her arms. Take her away from home and hearth this Mother’s Day, and treat her right – with some of the finest spreads of ‘makan’ on the island (and Sentosa too!).

The ART (ASSUMPTION RESTAURANT FOR TRAINING)
The APS (Assumption Pathway School) Culinary Team will cook up a storm with their students in this one-night only dinner event themed ‘A Dedication to Our Mothers’. Admission to this three-course Western dinner event is strictly by reservation only, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Seats are limited.
When Sat 4 May, 6pm – 9.30pm (last order at 9pm). $30 nett per person. Entry via the night entrance via 622 Upper Bukit Timah Road.

VIOLET OON’S KITCHEN
Take mum out of the kitchen on this day and celebrate her love and devotion with a delicious traditional Nyonya Buffet Lunch at Violet Oon’s Kitchen. Ala carte buffet Kueh Pie Tee leads the array of dishes which include Ngoh Hiang, Buah Keluak Ayam, Penang Kerabu Kay, Kacang Botol Salad, Chap Chye, the famous Beef Rendang, Kerabu Mango Fish, Drk Laksa and Chicken Pong Tay. Mum can also feast on Violet’s famous Shepherd’s Pie, Pulled Beef Ragu Rigatoni, Prawn Quesadilla (served piping hot fresh to your table) and a refreshing Chinese Chicken Salad and – gasp! – Chilli Crab Pizza!

THE EDGE
Kickstart a lazy Sunday afternoon with mummy dearest at The Edge’s Mother’s Day Sunday Brunch. Highlights include a ‘live’ Foie Gras station, Home Cured Norwegian Salmon, Wagyu Beef, assorted Oysters, Alaskan King Crabs, and Japanese Scallops. Mum could even win a stay in at Pan Pacific Hotel’s Presidential Suite in the Mother’s Day Lookalike Contest if your picture with her, snapped by a roving photographer, garners the most likes in Pan Pacific Singapore’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/panpacificsingapore).

Indulge mum with a luxurious vintage champagne Sunday brunch at Greenhouse at The Ritz Carlton Millenia. Unlimited Möet & Chandon Grand Vintage Blanc 2004 complement an extensive array of succulent crustacean, prime meats, over 50 varieties of cheese, sushi and sashimi and sweet desserts. Children may use their creativity to decorate heart-shaped macarons for their mothers while a two-piece band enhances the atmosphere with live music.

SILVER SHELL CAFE
Watch mum savour delectables from around the globe at the Silver Shell Café’s Wok and Grill Seafood Buffet Dinner on 11 May or the International Buffet Lunch on 12 May. We’re talking about gastro-delights like grilled seafood, meats, hot and cold selection, salads, Asian and western dishes and desserts for the former, and Fried Thai Chicken, Paneer Masala, Sushi, Kim Chi Salad, Grilled Prime Rib Eye… The café has an excellent kids’ corner at just the right height for little ones to serve themselves, and all mums receive a complimentary glass of ‘sparkling mom’s touch’ – a cocktail specially concocted for this occasion.

BARNACLES
With seafront views and gourmet chews, Barnacles’ Mother’s Day Garden Party by the Sea is the one place to pamper mum at. Expect an array of seafood – including freshly-shucked oysters, Alaskan king crab legs, and barbecued meats alongside Western and Chinese favourites. In addition to complimentary usage of the resort’s swimming pool, children may decorate cookies and present them to their mothers. Guests will also receive a complimentary bottle of Taittinger champagne with every four paying adults.

JADE
For more traditional grub in an atmosphere of old world grandeur, The Fullerton Hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant Jade has a six-course Mother’s Day Set Menu for lunch and dinner. Mouth-watering creations include Roasted Pi Pa Duck, Double-boiled Abalone, Fish Maw, Dried Scallop and Winter Melon in Superior Chicken Consommé, Oven-Baked Honey Glazed Cod Fish Fillet with Mayonnaise Pickled Cabbage, Crab Meat and Truffle Egg White and Simmered Egg Noodle with Scallop and Shimeiji Mushroom in Spring Onion and Ginger. End the meal with Chilled Strawberry Silken Tofu with Pearls Accompanied with a Heart Shape Red Bean Glutinous Dumpling.

THE KNOLLS
If mum’s a Francophile, head for Capella Singapore at Sentosa where The Knolls’ new Executive Chef David Senia presents a Mother’s Day Brunch featuring traditional French dishes passed down from his mother. He’ll even let mum bring home the recipes for these signature dishes if she wants to.
