March School Holidays 2020: Great Fun for Kids Indoors and Out!
Perhaps you’ve been keeping your little ones at home after school and on weekends because of the Covid-19 outbreak. Come mid-March though, when the March school holidays 2020 start, we hope that the situation will be calmer. Why? ‘Cos there are tons of fun activities that they can do during this time, of course!

Do a Big Day Out at Sentosa!
We love our very own State of Fun and it’s even easier to enjoy here this March school holidays because entry is FREE for everyone throughout this period. Make your way to Wonderland
Younger ones are not left out this March school holidays! While primary school-aged siblings do their thing, your littlies are welcome to attend A Mad Tea Party with ACT3 International. Here they’ll meet the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and a very sleepy Dormouse too! Even babies aged seven to 36 month-olds can join in (parent-accompanied), while three to seven-year-olds end their week-long party with a drama performance. Those aged four to seven years can also attend an ice cream-making workshop in collaboration with Gelato Cottage. Yummy!

Watch Local Literature come Alive
Textures is an annual festival celebrating local literature, something that we at SingaporeMotherhood definitely believe in! This year’s, themed “These Storied Walls”, brings SingLit to life within the walls of The Arts House. Our picks for kids? Adventures of a Kampung Boy, a performance and exhibition in English, The Story of the Red Scarf, a storytelling in Mandarin, and Patrick Yee’s Magical World of Illustration, a workshop in Mandarin.

Build Apps with micro:bit
Problem solving is a skill that every child needs to develop, and here at the The IoT Academy, children six to 16 years old can learn to do that though coding and electronics. They’ll do this by using the micro:bit and Microsoft makecode software for coding. They’ll also learn micro:bit coding concepts and apply them by developing an application for the micro:bit. Want to do more? There are drone flying, and coding with Scratch 3.0 workshops too.

Become Little Architects
At this AR.C.HI.TEC.TURE camp by Beep Lab, children aged eight to 12 years get to mix art, community, history, technology and nature as they explore aspects of their environment through architectural design process.

Be a Maker
Using different mediums such as paper, wood and fabric, children between six and 12 years are guided to create something new on each day of this camp by The Common Bench. Choose from two, three, or five day camps where kids will engage in silkscreen printing, design a cornhole game, and make paper, a wooden table lamp, or a wooden Lego box. Each camp is limited to six campers to ensure that every child enjoys in-depth guidance and learning.

Stay Cool, Calm, and Collected
At this two-day camp by Mindful Space, children aged seven to 12 years will learn to be Jedis. Just kidding, but they will learn to control their minds for better focus and calmness, just like their Star Wars heroes, through various activities including sensorial play, creative arts, yoga, breathing techniques and visualisation, and in doing so, strengthen their emotional, physical and mental resilience.

Stitch and Sketch a Little Book of Gratitude
Facilitated by an art therapist from Red Balloon Therapy, this art workshop guides children from eight years old onwards to reflect and create a personalised book on life’s simple pleasures and simple things that bring joy. The aim? To help them embrace the practice of gratitude. The workshop is an inclusive initiative by SG Enable, and is open to participants with special needs as well.

Learn to Sail
The March school holidays are a great time to try something new. If your child is a water baby who loves the sea, why not check out the SAF Yacht Club’s Get Kids Afloat programme, which introduces children aged seven to 15 years to the joys of sailing? During this four-day introductory sailing course kids will undergo theory and practical lessons, including rigging of crafts, parts of a craft, points of sail, capsize drills, and more. Crafts used are Optimist, Topper and Laser Pico (determined by participant size). Do note that your child will have to be able to swim at least 50m while wearing life vests.

Build Analog Games
If your children have been playing too much online games, this Game Design Camp by Artistic Strategies may help them go offline with a smile. In addition, it may even heighten your children’s creativity and get them to start thinking and creating new games, instead of passively playing digital ones. Using recyclable materials, children aged six to 12 years turn game-thinkers, working in teams to produce and present their creation. At the end of the camp, they’ll be part of an arcade, set up with their fellow game-meisters!

Calling all Science geeks 13 years old and above: come explore everything robotics ad make some robotic vehicles too! During this two-day camp, you will assemble three different robotic models from scratch using Bluetooth, line tracking, and ISM radio-controls, and program them using Arduino programming language. Participants will receive a certificate of completion after the camp.

Fence like Zorro
Why not try something new this March school holidays? If your little one is six or seven years old, this is the best time to start learning fencing! Modern Fencing has a Kids Beginner Camp that will coach aspiring fencers in footwork and blade work, distance control, rules, etiquette — everything they need to become a good fencer. They’ll even get to experience real fencing tournaments, using electronic equipment. Already have a practising fencer at home? Enrol them in the high performance camps instead.

Watch a Concert for Children
Music soothes the savage beast… and cranky kids too! So bring your little ones to the Tang Tee Khoon Grand Series celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, where they will get a musical introduction to one of the most prolific composers in history. There are four sessions to choose from depending on your child’s age — clarinet quartets for babies and preschoolers up to age four, and string quartets for children up to 12 years old. Do note that admission is only for children aged 12 and under, though accompanying parents (who will need to buy tickets for themselves) are allowed for each child aged four and under.
