Actually after heartbeat is detected, the chances of MC does drop quite significantly. However, until the end of the first trimester, there is still a risk of miscarriage, especially if there are chromosomal abnormalities which impedes the formation of the major organs. After the first trimester, all the major organs are formed. Thereafter, if there is a miscarriage, they say it's usually due to problems with the womb. These are just things I picked up along the way through reading, not medically backed, of course.
But in summary, yes, it is not uncommon for miscarriages to occur even after heartbeat is detected.
