Question about KKH private

I have very mixed question and hope ya guys out there can help to answer my queries.
Currently my wife is expecting our 2nd child and our visits to kkh as a subsidised patient (PR) is a... Very very Long wait..
1st visit 2pm - 6.20pm..
2nd visit 9am - 1.40pm.. And seems like very minimal as compared to our first child (we may have been spoiled by the first experience). Our first child was fully private at Mt Alvernia as my wife is a LTVP then, and wow it almost broke my arms and legs..
So long question short.. My wife is currently 10weeks..
1. If I opt for kkh private, where do I approach the doctors? (cause when I first registered at clinic C, the staff don't answer or keep ignoring my question regarding pte vs subsidised.. I was only informed switch to private cannot downgrade.. She repeated 3 times and informed me there is a list of doctor and you will be informed when I passed to you later for your reading and kept record.. After the doctor visit, no forms were passed to me, (and maybe is almost 6pm) when I approach the registration counter since its near the payment counter, I asked her for the list which she mentioned earlier will pass to me.. She told me there is nth to pass to me the list or letter will be kept in my wife record folder which stated our acknowledgement between pte and subsidised.. Or maybe I asked the wrong person at the wrong time?)

2. Any idea the rough estimates of the cost package for kkh pte?

3. Delivery package listed in their website (KKH estimated bill calculator) does it include both delivery services and the accommodation? Or it is only the accommodation part? (I may have remembered wrong cause my first child, the hospital accommodation and doc delivery services each charge separately)..

Sorry huh sound noob.. Cause when I read around and heard from friends.. It seems to suggest that subsidised all in 4k+ and pte also 4k+ 5k+?

Hi there curious dad,
I am currently 11 weeks and under KKH private from the start. I am with Dr Julian Kang (great doctor so far, my hubs and I are very comfortable with him as he is friendly, easygoing and does not rush through appts). I’ll try to answer your questions with the information I know.

1. As far as I know, for private, usually you need to do your own research as to which doctor you would like to see. Then you make an appointment with them, and go from there. We are seeing Dr Julian Kang (from even before my pregnancy as we saw him for my miscarriage). He is a lovely doctor so far, and hubby and I are happy with him. He is friendly, easygoing and not strict or restrictive. He is also warm and will answer all questions patiently. He does not rush through appointments. We just made an appointment with him and on our first pregnancy visit, during registration, they told us we will be private, under him and he will deliver our baby for us. If he is not around, his team of specialists will.

2. We have been seeing Dr Kang on Saturdays. There is a surcharge to see him on Saturdays (I think about $45? I could be wrong so you need to check.) Basically, each visit of ours usually total to about $145-$150. This cost covers only the consultation and ultrasound. We are scheduled to see him about once a month during the pregnancy. as far as I know, this price also does not include additional medications or scans like the OSCAR or Harmony or other pre natal scans. Those are all additional charges. I don’t know what the prices are for those scans yet and meds depends on the type of meds you get.

3. As far as I understand, delivery package only discussed accommodation. The doctors fees, which is the fees for when the doctor comes in and delivers your baby, is completely different and additional. This fee depends on which doctor you get. KKH also has antenatal packages as I understand from Dr Kang, and he recommended we look into them when I reach week 20.

hope this helps!

Hey,
Can you please share approx time for each appointment for kkh private..

Hi DreamingMommy,

it depends on the gynae you book. I’ve heard some whose gynae rush through appointments. Dr Kang does not, he is patient and answers all questions.

Just recommendation - Dr. Qi Maili. Nice lady and her husband was a famous gynae in KKH too last time for almost 20 years - Dr. Khoo Chong Kiat. And now he open his own clinic at MEN since 2 years ago.

If you don’t mind, Can you share the breakdown delivery cost with Dr Qi Maili at KKH private?

I’m 25 weeks now with KKH subsidized and indeed I saved quite a fair bit on all the scanning and tests! So far my experience is ok just that most of the doctors are junior and I have to be sharp in asking questions and raising my concerns. The whole visit is usually 2-3 hours and I will always request for morning slot.
As a first time mum, I’m also considering switching to private class because I heard that the attitude of the nurses at subsidized ward and private ward are different. Since I’m not experienced and may end up asking a lot of questions or need assistance, I don’t want to have a cold shoulder from the nurses especially after delivery.
Any one can share their experience in the subsidized ward?
I did my GTT at week 24 and would like to know if there are any more tests from week 28 onwards? Is it mostly doctor consultant and ultrasound scanning?
And if I convert to private and there is any complication to my baby, can I request to convert back to subsidized class for my LO?
Thanks!

Hi. I am sharing my current experience as a subsidised patient.
My past 3 pregnancies I been seeing Doctors from nuh clinic g. The waiting time is no doubt long and every consultation will be a different Dr.
Currently with sgh subsidised patient. And seems that I've always been booked with same Dr, Dr serene Lim. Sgh system seems very smooth and waiting time max 1.5hrs, there are times when ive arrived at my appointment time but my q no has already been called. Sgh uses the health buddy system which u can register online while you are on the way to the hospital so its very convenient.
The toilet, scans, dropping off samples are within the same clinic. So I would highly recommend if anyone are looking for a subsidised hospital.
Hope this helps.
