PCOS....

After giving birth to my no.1 in 2013, I was diagnosed with PCOS too. But I've tried going to gynae for 2 cycles, went back to TCM for couple of cycles and now desperate so went back to my gyane.
Currently on 3rd cycle of clomid aready. My ovaries doesn't seem to react well with clomid - the follicles ain't big enough, so gynae gave an additional dose and schedule me to return tomorrow.

Quite disappointing as clomid used to work for me. Anyway I go to Dr. James Lee who has not shifted to Bishan, Astra Women's Specialist.

I'm currently with kkh. Had my first cycle of clomid, blood test showed that I have ovulated but I didn't get pregnant. Currently on my second cycle, waiting to go for blood test again next week. Just thought of changing to a gynae who is more specialised in fertility areas.

What are his rates like? Is it expensive?

For ivf , the variable costs primarily depends on the medication dosage as well as the length of stimulation required to retrieve the best yield of matured follicles from our ovaries.

Was glad that i headed straight into ivf and it was till then we found out that my eggs quality were no good ... no wonder i couldnt get pregnant naturally after trying for so long.

Due to pcos i was overstimulated during ivf and managed to produce many follicles but many did not survive and i finally got a few good quality embryos and got pregnant with the help of dr cheng.

Hi,

KKH scheduled you for blood test to monitor ovulation? Just wondering if your cycles are regular and which day did they ask you to do the blood test? I have the impression most who have PCOS have irregular cycles and it is usually not easy to nail down ovulation in each cycle. Have been using OPK strips even when gynae prescribes clomid/letrozole.

My cycles are irregular. I have high prolactin level too, so need to be on bromocriptine to bring down the level. So for now, I am on bromocriptine and clomid.

Gynae asked me to go for progestrone blood test on Day 21. For last cycle, Day 22 they called me to say that I have ovulated becos my progestrone level was high or more than certain level. However, didn't manage to get pregnant too. But to my surprise, Menses came naturally and so I restart the cycle with same dosage of clomid as per what doctor says.

I see...the blood test was more to confirm ovulation using progesterone level. Still got to try to time BD to catch the ovulation. You may want to use OPK strips to monitor from Day 14 and once positive, it means ovulation will take place within the next 24-48hours. Good luck for your second cycle!

Ya u are right. So doctor advised to have sex every 2-3 days from day 6 onwards, which is after 5 days of clomid. Where can I get the OPK strips? Thanks for ur luck! :)

I also like to join the group if there is a singapore fb or whatapps group for pcos. It is difficult to cope with pcos alone and support groups r really useful, at least to keep our sanity in check. Pls announce n share if you are in any pcos fb/whatapps support group!

Thanks heaps!

Is really not easy to cope alone and support groups are indeed useful . We motivate one another and share life stories.

I tried young living progessence oil given by my Friend , said to be good for pcos as well as obesity. I tried applying them a month or 2 before I got pregnant . Am thinking if this actually helps too , since I have previously went on 6 cycles of clomid n 2 cycles of letrozole before I gt preg ..

Anw ladies . Shall we start a pcos WhatsApp grp ? Or any group that you are currently in?

If keen, I can create :) can pm me ur no :)

Hi Janice

I stopped applying once I am pregnant . I think some oils can't be applied during pregnancy .

Is better to check with the doc

Janice, yes some oil will cause uterus to contract n lead to complication. Pls check with doc which are the safe EO to use. Better to be safe than to err...

I used essential oils on my sons, but I made it a practice to wash away the residue on my hands and fingers.
Rosemary and clary sage are some that can trigger contractions, and should be avoided during pregnancy.

I´ve been taken pills to regulate this problem for 2 years but this month I got my period twice & I´m exhausted and worried about that. Feel free to contact me!!! My name is Belén!!! Nice to meet you!!! :)

Hi All,

I got diagnosed with PCOS few years back, and I think I am still having this problem as my menses still irregular.

First diagnosed when I visited the gynae at NTF. She advised me to take the birth control meds, after taking for about 2-3 months I realised that I get very bad cramps everytime when my menses come... And recently I just got married, we will be trying for baby maybe at end of the year, preferably not to take birth control meds for now as I scared will affect...

Any gynae Doctors to recommend?

Thanks!

Ladies,

I am also diagnosed with PCOS with a block tube and headed straight into IVF.

I will be returning 200 red eggs at Toa Payoh Shuang Lin Temple this coming Sunday (4Feb morning) to thank ZSNN for blessing me with my miracle baby who arrived in Dec17.

For those who are keen to collect the eggs, you may go to the temple after 1230pm.

Once again spreading baby dusts to all of you and please do not give up and i wish that everyone here will carry your bundle your joy soon.

Hi I've also been diagnosed with PCO/PCOS recently. Noticed that a few here had asked if there were any support groups here.. If none, shall we create one using Telegram/Line (so u no need to give phone number to strangers)?

Hi all,

I'm diagnosed with pcos last year aug17. Both ovaries are filled with MANY tiny tiny cyst. I'm not overweight, neither my blood sugar level is high. The previous GP mentioned if I delivered baby before it shouldnt be a problem?? My menses cycle on average is 38-45 days. Longest was 57 i think. i googled and seems that EPO might helps.. I took EPO and folic acid ever since.

I did a test last week and was found positive. This would be my 2nd baby at approx. 6weeks now. I'm scheduled to see my gynae Next Week, am terrified to also know that women with PCOs has higher chance of miscarriage. So stressssss

Hi all,

I am 29 this year, hoping to conceive before 30. but it seem like is not possible anymore. I always been having irregular menses and decided to go do fertility check. Today, I just gotten my ultrasound scan results. I am diagnose with PCOs. Currently, feel so lost, i am still waiting for my blood test results before the doctor able to give me a more detail explanation on my situation. Currently I am with Dr Tan and Partners at Pacific plaza. Anyone been there or do you have any doc recommendation to treat PCOS.

I read that there is a Whatsapp chat group, are you able to add me in.

Thanks

Has anyone here gotten better from PCOS after taking metformin? How would you know? Are there tests?

I have been on metformin for PCOS since April 2017. One month after, my bloodwork showed that my testosterone level has decreased and according to my gynae, it is showing improvement and my body is responding to the treatment. However, since I'm TTC, he advised me to continue taking until I deliver (I am still not preggers yet, and had one MC late last year).

Went to another gynae recently and he said that he did not see any PCOS in my affected ovary and I can stop taking metformin anytime.. so I'm kinda confused now.

Anyone had any experience in getting better and when do you know when to get off metformin?

Hi Nana_love, I am in the same situation as you! Always envisioned myself to conceive by 30 but also not happening for me I guess, I am diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis last year and i am now 29. I've known a lot of friends who managed to conceive pretty easily even though they have PCOS so don't be despaired! Are you given any medication for this?

Hi Cookiemonster11, At the moment, there no prescription yet, as I am still waiting for my blood test result. The doc say she will be able to better advice me when all the lab test results are in. However, she mention about Metformin and Clomid.

I see, don't worry, you'll do fine :) metformin has helped bring down my high testosterone level and apparently my PCOS is gone? There were also some lifestyle changes that i adopted, such as cutting out soy products and reducing meat consumption that could've helped.

Soya products ? u mean like soya milk etc.. I drink that daily. Think I have to do some changes.

Yes! including soya milk. Ditched that completely. because it mimics estrogen in our body, and when consumed too much, our body sends signal to reduce estrogen production and hence, causing hormonal imbalance.

Hi all, I have been recently diagnosed with PCOS. Have yet to see a gynae yet, as we r ttc for the past year, a Friend told us to go directly to fertility doc instead of the regular gynae. Was thinking if anyone could advise on that. I’m quite lost now n feeling quite shitty. Would really like to have some advice Thanks!

Hi Puddypie, since you have been trying for the past year and still couldn’t conceive, I think it’s a good idea to visit a gynaecologist who specialises in fertility. Apart from treating your pcos, they might be able to find out other causes or suggest other treatments.

Don’t be discouraged by pcos, it’s really common and can be treated with lifestyle changes (exercise and lose weight if you are overweight, cut down on soy, meat and dairy, u can google it up) and doc will suggest the right medication for you after your blood work :)

I’ve not heard of that but I googled it up and it seems like a very effective supplement. I’m currently on metformin only.

Hi all,

Recently, I was diagnosed with PCOS. I had a stillbirth last October. I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter when she passed away. Only after giving birth, my period skipped a month so I decided to have it check since I’m TTC and scan shows multiple cysts. Since my period came in Feb & March, dr told me to monitor and not give up trying and to see a fertility specialist if I am not pregnant after 12 months. So devastated upon knowing this diagnosis while Im still coping with the loss of my daughter.

So sorry to hear that, it must be really difficult for you. I was so devastated even though I had an early MC and I can’t imagine what you must be going through.

Did doc prescribe you with any meds or treatment for your pcos? I know a couple of friends who managed to have full term pregnancies and gave birth to healthy babies even with PCOS but they were given medication to follow.

Doc didn't prescribe me any meds. Not sure why no treatment was done but since my period can in Feb and Mar, I assume doc wants me to try to conceive naturally 1st and she booked me an appt with the fertility clinic in 12 months time if I am still not pregnant by then. I saw the doc in SGH so I think its common for them to monitor 1st then action done later.

So on my part, I did some research on Duromine (Phentermine) and I saw my GP yesterday and he prescribed me with Duromine to help in my weight loss since I have difficulty in losing those weight I gained during pregnancy. I'm planning to do another ultrasound in 6 months if I'm not pregnant to see if the size of the cysts increases. The recent ultrasound reports indicate multiple cysts with up to 7mm. Turning 28 this year so I hope to have my rainbow baby before I turn 30. :(

I don’t know how severe your pcos is since you still have a regular menstrual cycle despite having the polycystic ovaries so I can’t give much advices on this. All I know is that people with PCOS have higher chances of MC so it’s always best to check with a fertility doc to see how severe it is and the Best treatment to avoid complications in pregnancy. That’s just my opinion but you can still wait and see what your gynae says :)

Me too am 28 and want to have a baby by 30! Jia you!
