IUI/SO-IUI: Anyone?

Hi Dawn,

I dun chart BBT or use OPK which i did a few months back...This month we actually let nature takes it own course,juz BD as and when we like..So i really dun know/not sure if i had Oed...I called my gynae this morning,he says the possibilty of late O is pretty slim..The reason for the AF delay could be coz no O this month...I will go back to him if AF still dun report by next week...Oh ya..btw, I also tested with my pregnancy test strips...show negative(expected anyway)..So I ruled out the possibility of being pregnant.

hmmmm hoonie......probably the exam stress is affecting ur AF. Why u want to get out of NIE? tot it should be better than teaching in school? suppose to be honeymoon period rite? in school have to do alot of other rubbish stuff other than teaching.

I think my test and exams are affecting my AF..I juz backtrack and remember that I had a AF cycle as long as 42 days!!

But come to think of it..I will be facing 40 "monkeys" in a class soon next year...Thinking of those "you feel like murdering them" kind of students,you will think twice about having your own child...haha..Really contracdicting myself now..I am just trying to "zi wo an wei" bah...

I was not given progesterone support after my IUI because my RE think that it is not necessary for me. However, my TCM doc thinks that I am lack of progesterone.

I would like to know whether a blood test for progesterone level at day 22 would be a good diagnosis/gauge of whether my progesterone level is lacking. Has anyone here gone for any progesterone level test?

Hi Atlas,

I went to the progesterone level blood test the last cycle...and it shows that my progesterone level is low..probably no O...hence this month AF delayed...But lucky AF still come *phew*.....

Is the purpose of your progesterone level blood test to detect whether O has taken place?

For me, I have O this month, but would like to know whether my progesterone level is sufficient. I would like to know if my TMC doc diagnosis is correct. If so, I will need to boost the level by 'tiao'my body to prepare for future pregnancy.

Any idea whether the blood test at day22 will be a good gauge?

Yes..The purpose is to detect if O has taken place...I am not sure which day to take..but my gynae says go on CD21 lor...

yes, usually 7 days pass your ovulation, gynae will ask you to go back to do progesterone test.
if one follicle burst and releases one egg, the reading should be around 30 to 60. The 2 previous cycle of IUI, my progesterone was 110 to 120, so my gynae told me at least two follicles burst, 2 eggs are released. but sadly still not preggie.

One of my gfs just "confessed" to me about her abortion last year today and she only discover her pregnancy at 7 weeks but she still choose to abort as she was not ready for a marriage...Btw,she is only 22. She asked me now that she had an abortion before,would she have problem conceiving next time? I really dun know what to tell her,I juz say everything is fated...

What make me sad is not coz of her abortion...But I keep thinking why some pple dun wan to have baby will have...while pple like us,when all conditions are ready and stable for us to have a baby and we are still trying so hard in vain...Can't help feeling depressed over her "confession"...How to get rid of that feeling man?

atlas, good to take a break, i always afraid that too many cycles of iui causes these drugs/hormones in our bodies....not very healthy rite? *sigh* hope our health not badly affected. hope can get pregnant in between the iui cycles too! haha!

hoonie, i know what u r feeling....it iis not just depression but also frustration over why some pple conceive so easily and do not treasure their gift from god. I only know if have abortion a few times, the gynae will advise not to as it does affect fertility.

When I heard of people's abortion or pregnancy,I get depressed and "angry"(Thinking why God is so unfair..) But I still hide my disappointment and anger as I do not wish to disclose much about my "problem"...sianz..My only outlet is here....

Mind I ask you something? How long did you try naturally before embarking on IUI? As i had read in the previous posts,you had tried IUI before...How are the cost like?

(Sorry for so many questions) Coz your case seems "similar" to mine,the male factor...DH is taking multi vits now from my gynae and he will do the SA again in 2 months time..I dun meant to "think negative" but just wan to be prepared for the worse...Another thingy is: Mind I ask how old is your hubby? Sperm morphology and age got relation?

We have been ttc naturally for the past 1.5 years before embarking on IUI. The total cost is about $700 for normal IUI, comprises of scans, the procedure, HCG jab + drugs. My HB is about mid thirties and m not sure whether men's morphology and age got any relation.

By the way, I will be out of town for 1 week and may not see your reply after this.

My hubby only late 20s leh...Dun know why the morphology so low...haiz...Maybe coz of his shift work...he is stressed out...Hope that is temp and there will be improvements after he take the multi vits and zinc...

btw, i just failed my 3rd so-iui today.....AF came...so sad. Sperm count was very good this time 56million after washing. Egg size was good....I was not stressed....not sure what is wrong. Will be moving on to IVF in dec/jan. wondering if i should take no pay leave from school next year....


Hoonie, sperm quality very related to stress, last year when my hubby worked late past midnite every nite, SA was very bad too. After he changed his job, SA improved drastically too. He also taking Tribestan recommended by gynae from KK, sold over the counter in KK pharmacy, no need prescription. Maybe that helps him too....quite expensive though....about $100 for 60 pills.

Oh..My gynae juz gave my hubby some multi-vits to try for 3 months and retake the SA again... Hope this time the morphology got improvement..I am praying very single night for my miracle to come...Hope I can conceive naturally...

I think I will give myself time till I turn 30 then think about embarking on IUI or IVF...Trying to think +ve now..

Sorry to know abt your failure. But, don't be despair, as so-iui success rate is only slightly higher than normal iui.

Oh dear... i made a typo... should be 7Nov (last week when i went to KKH). Yah lor... the Jan q is totally full... i didn't get to talk much to nurse Sarah. Instead the asst nurse Ms Tan Cheng Chiah talked to me instead.

Really hope he can give me a miracle!

hoonie, I have tried TCM for about 5 months b4 i started iui. it does help my cycle to be more regular.

So sorry to hear abt your 3rd failed attempt with IUI; but good to see that u've quickly picked yourself up and embarking on IVF soon... jiayou!
I've just done my laparoscopy and is resting at home now. Doctor discovered endometriosis. I hope to get positive news after going thro' this surgery. Was really scared when they pushed me to the OT, but the procedure was fast and I was out in 1.5 hrs. The pain is manageable and I'll be seeing my doctor for review next week to discuss how to proceed. Really hope to have a piggy baby soon ...

Hi 75gal, can only discover endometriosis by laparoscopy? scanning can discover? Heard many gals who go thro laparo got preggy quite soon after the surgery. Who did the lapro for you?

SO-IUI at KKH is about 1K to 1.5K depending on how well you respond to the drugs. KKH don't do normal IUI. IVF is about 6 to 8 K, I think there are some gals who are lucky to be successful on the 1st attempt! The success rate is about 20% for KKH....so something like every 5 couple, 1 couple will strike with IUI. Slighly higher for IVF, which is about 30 % Age plays a large factor for success rate too.

From what I know, endometriosis can only be accurately detected and removed via surgery, though it is not a long term cure. I did my surgery at Mt E, costs abt $7k (a big hole in my pocket); really hope that I can get positive news after going thru' all these and spending the $$$. I will be so happy if I can have a piggy baby. Now just have to concentrate on resting well and wait for next AF to come ...

I went for my first IUI on the 9th Nov. Can't wait for next wk to arrive so as to know if I'm successful this round.
So far, I've been taking my BBT and temp is on the high side. But I got a feelin I'll fail this round. No feelin of being preggie at all.

I've PCOS and have TCC for 2yrs liao. Like some of u, I've spent countless times & $$ visiting Gynaes and Chinese Physician. It's really a lot of stress..

Kei, fully understand what u r going through....this 2ww always passes so slowly. Some pple have no preggie symptoms at all one, don't give up. Where did u do your IUI? is it IUI or SO-IUI?

I did my IUI with Dr LC Foong. It's IUI not SO-IUI. I'm comtemplating to get the preg test kit first. Do you think I should test exactly on the 14th Day or wait for a few more days?

BTW, will you be doing anymore SO-IUI? My DR said that after 3 rounds of IUI if not successful, must go for IVF. I hope that I won't go thru that!

I'm new to this thread.

I feel so sian as my condition seems to be very pessimistic. I have blocked tubes, endo, pcos, not ovaluating. My hubby sa test shows very bad results.

Have been seeing a gynae at TMC but nothing seems to improve. Spent a lot of money and I'm quite drained. She seems to be more interested in earning my money rather then helping me with my problem. My gynae suggest that I go for IUI and the estimated charges is 1.8k.... so exp.

After reading thru this thread, I'm thinking of consulting to SF Loh instead......
