IUI/SO-IUI: Anyone?

iamsnow

I read from the thread that SF Loh is good, and am sure that he can help you. Meantime, you may want to read-up more and get more insights about IUI.

yah, if got block tubes, how are the sperm going to travel up the tubes to reach the eggs? If got poor sperm count, they will recommend IVF straight away.

KKH SOIUI is oni about 1K plus only.

hi dawn..

do u know whether they will start the treatment right from the 1st appt or the 1st appt is just for conselling..?

I am new in this thread.. Doing my second attempt in IUI (skipped 2 cycles due to poor health and no egg) .. The wait is a little torturous.. Each time the stomach area twitch.. I would wondering .. if things are happening finally.. Sigh.. The success rate of IUI is low.. I wonder if this fails again, should i jump into IVF..

Now I could only wait.. I was rather hopeful as my hubby's sperm count is around 50 million highest so far .. after taking corpceps. But after reading dawn's entry, i kinda of feel dishearten .. guess it is a matter of luck?

Usually after IUI, doc would ask us to try again at night.. I have a concern.. would that disturb whatever that has already been inseminated? do you know?

findingmiki

Did your HB's count improved after taking cordyceps? Is it the capsules type or the original type where you have to boil? What was his count before taking it? How long was he taking it? Is it possible to share with me? It is ok to PM me instead.

I have the same concern as yours when the doc ask us to try the next day after IUI. We tried both ways ("to do" and the next round "not to do") but no good news so far.

Hi Atlas007,

Yes my HB count improved quite a fair bit. The sperm count increased from 30m to 56m after taking cordyceps. He is taking andriol as well. The sperm concentration improved too.

Some statistic ..
Before anything - 19m
with Andriol - 28.8, 30m (did 2 SAs)
with cordyceps & andriol - 56m

We bought the cordyceps in powder form from chinese sinseh. The Andriol is from the western doctor. Afer taking the cordyceps, he becomes heaty very easily. There is an adjustment period where he falls sick easily as he did not drink enough water.. Now we learnt the trick.. i.e. drink lots of water..

One thing we learnt, the moment he falls sick the SA would decrease sharply .. and it would take a while to recover. There is a stage when his SA dipped to 16m and Doc wanted us to go IVF..

Guess IUI has really a low success rate..
I have this feeling that it is not going to work this time somehow ..

hopes, first appt they will do check up first and brief you on the procedures, unless they have oredi done so?

findingmiki, don't be discouraged. some pple do iui, first time will also succeed. depends on luck i suppose. BD after that nite after the IUI suppose to increase the chances of conceiving leh!

jia you.....

hi Dawn.. thanks!

hi atlas007, i made a mistake with the statistics.

THe sperm count statistics:

Before any medication is 6.3M (not 19M)
With Andriol & TCM 28.8, 30M
With Andriol & TCM & cordyceps 50M

Hope this helps.

findingmiki

Thank you for your inputs. Dawn is correct, some ppl so first time and strike. Stay positive. I bought cordyceps mycelium today from my TCM doc for my HB. Hope it helps.
Is Andriol prescribe by your gynea or an urologist? Is it in capsule form? Need to take cordyceps and androil for how long to see results?

hi Dawn..

I have already gone thru all the preliminary tests.. so .. it will take some time before they will start the actual treatment i guess..?

Hi Atlas007 ,

The Andriol is prescribed by my gynae.
For my hubby case, as we only know that results improved when he does his SA when there is a need for IUI. Thus it may not be good indication to know how long to see results.

This is our experience..
Andriol - 1-2 months , the SA improved.
Cordyceps - 2-3 months... .but this is 'cause i skip my IUI sessions as i had no eggs for 1 month and i fell ill the other month..

Maybe others would like to share your experience as my cannot be used as guideline.?

findingmiki

Thanks for your response. Which stage are you in currently? Are you in your 2ww after second IUI? Where is your gynea and who? I had 3 failed attempts.

hi atlas007,

I'm new here and would like to find out more abt SO-IUI procedure.

erm..failure at the first few attempts is very common is it..?

Anyone u noe succeeded on their first try at SO-IUI?

hopes

I did the normal IUI but not SO-IUI. Are you currently under KK? Heard from the nurse that there are ppl who succeeded on their first attempt too.

Hi atlas007,
This is the day 6 after the 2nd IUI is performed. Gygnae is Dr. Fong ...

The success rate of IUI is only single digit..
Slightly better than the chances of striking lottery but then of course the bets are bigger..
happy.gif

I should be going for SO-IUI next as Dr. come to the conclusion that i may not respond well to the Clomid medication. This time round, the growth of the egg is very slow.. it is only up till day 16 then the egg grow to the correct size. We almost drop this cycle.

findingmiki

Have you any idea why some ppl do not respond well to Clomid medication. Is it because of PCOS? Is your gynea Dr Fong Yang?

Hi atlas007,

Gynae is Fong Yang.
I have no idea why some ppl do not respond well to Clomid.. Maybe i can ask the doctor.. But reading some of the discussion threads, I seem to draw the conclusion that people with PCOS tend to respond better to injectibles..

But generally most doctor would start with clomid. somehow . no idea why..

Hi atlas007, pantone..

apparently, SO-IUI is supposed to have slightly higher success rate than normal IUI.

So-IUI is where we are to inject ourselves daily during day 2 to day ? (not sure). It is supposed to stimulate hopefully 1 egg and more ..

Maybe those who went thru So-IUI can share.. I would like to know too.. many thanks.

Hi gals, jus to share.

IUI simply delivers the "washed" sperm into our uterine so the success rate is not as high as SO-IUI as usually oni one mature egg is available.

SO-IUI uses combination of injectibles and pills to ensure that you have 2 or 3 mature follicles b4 they put in the washed sperm, so the rate is slightly higher.
For KKH, if it is your 1st cycle of SO-IUI, you will be given both clomid + injectibles at different times of the cycle and will be monitored for follicle growth b4 the washed sperm are put in.

For subsequent cycles, will only use injectibles, no more clomid....the rest of the procedures are similar.

findingmiki, hope you will strike this time so that you wun have to go through thinking about the 2 processes!
happy.gif
how do u feel now?

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for sharing..
happy.gif

I am trying not to think too much for the moment. It is coming to a week after the IUI.. And sad to say.. did not really feel anything except feel a little bloated.. is that an indication? tot it is showing that the uterus is getting bulky and menses might be coming?

hi findingmiki

don't think too much and have more rest. I was also watching out for early preggie symptom 1 week after IUI. I experienced bloatness, breast tenderness etc.... but I guess these are post injection (for O) and clomid effect on me. Everytime when my AF came after each IUI, I was upset.

Having said that, who knows you might be successful this round. Every individual's symptom is different. Take care

findingmiki, some pple have no symptoms at all when they preggie. one more week to go .....hee hee, go shopping, tea or watch movies to distract yourself? I always find the 2ww the most torturous

hi atlas,

yes.. me with KK.. going for my 1st appt next wk for SO-IUI session.. so, checking on what is expected on the first appt.. otherwise i'll be blur blur.. :p

kind of excited but yet trying not to keep my hopes high...since success rate for 1st time strike is so low..
sad.gif

hi dawn..!

thank u so much for sharing too.. at least now i get a better insight of SO-IUI procedure.
happy.gif

hopes, ...even though SO-IUI success rate not very high but still higher than BDing naturally, so i think it is a big step to take towards trying to conceive. jia you jia you!

hi dawn and atlas007,
Thanks.. i will take care and try to rest more ..
happy.gif
Glad to have each other supporting thru the process..
happy.gif
Wish us all baby dust soon..

Need advice..
Mens seems to be here.. there are some staining.. doctor only had slots on my day 4 to see me.. is it too late for SO-IUI?

p/s: what does AF stands for ?

Hi atlas..

Yup.. i made my last attempt to call the clinic .. this time the lady is more helpful .. she managed to get me an appt on my day 2.. so relieved now..

Period is here..

p/s: I figured from the threads that AF is period.. but was curious what's AF stands for ? Aunty ?? and also BF ? reckon it is consummate or Make love .. but what's BF?

hi hopes, not sure about xinyu. haven't heard from her. she has gone on to IVF.....but don't seem to see her on the threads.

Hi ladies,
chanced upon this thread. Needed a listening ear to vent my frustrations. My 4th IUI attempt failed... Very very disappointed. Gynae did mention if this time failed again I shall proceed on to SO-IUI. But I am fearful. Hubby's SA dropped to a super low, with 1% normal and about 1.7 Mil.

Very very lost.. Wonder if hubby should go for his varicoceles repair procedure to improve sperm count. Or should I just proceed with SO-IUI? Next year turning 33. Been TTCing for 3 years already.

The road is long with so many uphills to climb. When is the end of this tunnel? Maybe the heavy rain dampens my mood even more..

hi phy, did u let your hubby take those vit for men? may help.....some times these varicoceles surgeries do not guarantee improvement. And is it only recently that the SA dropped so low? Maybe he is feeling stressed too? or feeing unwell? what was his previous reading?

for SO-IUI, i remembered the nurse telling me need a minimum of 3 or 5 million sperm for it to have a substential success rate, otherwise they will recommend IVF instead.
The road to get our own child is indeed long and full of frustrations and tears for some of us......but we must perservere! I have also been TTCing for nearly 3 years....tried 3 times SO-IUI which all failed this year....so i understand what you have been through. The ladies here are quite supportive...and it does helps a lot to come here to pour out your grief and frustrations.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the reply
happy.gif
Was feeling very down last night. Now feeling better.

Anyway, Hubby's SA always on the low side. Highest was about 3.7 Mil and 2% of normal. He has been taking supplements for men.

*sigh* wonder how else to improve his count.

Sometimes I think whatever is not meant to be will not happen. However, must learn to count my blessings everyday...

Will see how and decide if I should go ahead with SOIUI...

findingmiki

I bought the powdered form from my TCM doc. Juz started on it not long, won't know the effect until he do another SA. But this type of thing must also take for prolong period of time then can see the effect. I think too early to tell now.

Hi all,
Most of you here are under kkh for IUI? I intend to go for IUI under Dr Noel Leong at TMC. Anyone had done SO-IUI under him and any experience to share? I had checked with the nurse for cost of SO-IUI. She said its bet $3k-$4k. The earlier thread states that KKH IUI is about $1k? The diff is so great?

Hi Atlas..
Got to ask your HB to drink lots of water as cordyceps can be heaty.

Yup.. agree that it will take time.

Another thing to note is HB cannot fall sick when we are about to do IUI.. it will badly affect the SA. According to my TCM, if HD got fever then got to skip the cycle..

Thus, get HB to drink lots of water.. warm water would be better.

Hi pantone, i did my SO-IUI from other private practise doc. cost is around $1.2 to $2.

It depends on the amount of injectibles that one needs to take. For those who needed a higher dosage would therefore need to pay more.

Think my would be more expensive the next trial as I did not respond very well with the current dosage.

Hi maplebabies, we are only allowed to use Medisave 3 times for reproductive purpose (i.e IUI/SOIUI/IVF/ICSI...first time max claim is 6K, 2nd time 5K, 3rd time 4K. So if your IUI is only 1 to 2K, not very "hua" to claim from medisave, in case next time next time need IVF...may need to claim more?

pantone, KK highly subsidize the drugs, therefore it is cheaper.
