TOUCH emailed right away yesterday upon receiving our HSR submission. But they said that the first office interview is likely FOUR months away

strawberrysusu
Yes I think the queue must be v long as I submitted my HSR end of Jul last yr n had my 1st interview with TOUCH 2 mths later. But they are v organised n fast once u see it thru. In the meantime, u cld also source out Lotus and other agencies so they can actively look out for babies for u, then let nature take its course. Can't wait for yr gd news

iwantitvmuch
We went to the Immigration dept yest to coll the citizenship ourselves n were briefed on how fast it is to apply n process our baby bonus privileges online. No, haven't applied for passport yet as we're told we can still use our bb's f'gn p/pt which is still valid.

BlesswBB
Bingo, the ikan bilis stock is also gd calcium source n sweet too, i like!

babylove80
guess what, my baby saw us having soft tofu soup for dinner last night, n couldn't stop asking for the tofu... maybe u cld try it, i think baby G will love the texture, try it!

Mummportia,
If baby cries when he gets into the water, persist for some 10 mins and carry him and walk in the water. My bb cried for the first 5-10 mins but got used to the water and enjoyed herself.
Still use the old p/pt?? I think better get Singaporean passport lah. Joanne, you applied Singaporean one??

HI ladies,

I have a question and I need some help. Can anyone tell me in how does the 6 in 1 jab for newborns work? I made enquiry at 1 of the clinic in cck and they are charging $90/dose.

I would like to know how do we pay, is it $90 each time we go for the jab (for 6 times) or $90 for 1 package?

I am confused! And does polyclinic provide 6 in 1 vaccines too?

iwantitvmuch,
I got my girl a Singapore Passport...but sad that till now still haven't had the chance to travel. Hubby too over protective as he's afraid our girl may not use to the new environment. Our girl will start crying to go to her bedroom once is past 9.30pm so we kind of worried if we travel she will start crying when she gets into a different bedroom.

Mummyportia,
My girl like tofu too.
happy.gif

Nicole Chua,
the $90 is only 1 time jab...the 6 in 1 meaning there are 6 kind of medicine in the jab which instead of having 6 jabs the baby only having 1 jab at a goal.

Nicole,
I think the 6in1 is spread out to 3 doses, each taken at one more interval. $90/dose seems reasonable. Polyclinic provide 6in 1 too but not much cheaper than the private clinic. It is better to do it via a private clinic because poly clinic administer one of the vaccine different(oral vs injection). I need to dig out an email about it and send it to you.

iwantitvmuch/BlesswBB
Yeah how i wished i cld apply for a SG passport for my bb too. Turned out my hubby is over protective too n reluctant to take bb abroad until he is more sensible n can walk more stably. Dreaming of our 1st trip to Japan or Australia tog with bb ...

Nicole
yes it's better to hv the jab at a pte clinic, preferably 1 where the dr is gd with babies.

HI all, my hubby & i are seriously consider to adopt a child. But I heard the waiting time for RPC child adoption takes about 4 yrs. Can anyone tell us other source of adoption? Is the local child adoption agency reliable?

Hi elainen,

i think most of the ladies here goes to a local adoption agent (lotus adoption agency) and handled by an indian lady name Alice. She would source for her babies from Malaysia and she is very experience in this field.

Although I didn't adopt thru her but i introduced 1 of my girlfren to her for adoption and have seen her and spoken to her too. SHe really knows what she is doing compared to my agent.

My girlfren did their HSR in sep 2009 and they have their baby in Feb 2010. I told her to do her HSR at tampines as i heard it is a lot faster and it's true.

Mu hubby's cousin did their hsr at tanjong pagar and till now still not approve.

Just something that i know and would like to share with u. Hope it is helpful!

Hi Nichole,
Thanks for the info. Is really helpful.Your suggestion is good as we are actually stay in the east. Do you have the contact for the agency to file the HSR in Tampines? Many thanks!! We actually just signed up for the pre-adoption workshop coming May.

Hi Die,

I was very excited and happy initially but as the days goes by I began to panic cos I dunno whether i am doing th rite thing with baby or not.

I always tot I have vast experience in childcare and infant care, taking care of our baby shdn't be any problem to me but i have overestimated myself. Actually there is more than just taking care of her.

But there are definitely times when i feel encouraged and satisfied seeing her grow. Cos she came to me as a very petite and frail baby. Nurses in the hospital told the birth mom that baby was a slow drinker hence her small size.

Now she has proven the nurse wrong, haha!

Hi Nicole,
Congrats and welcome to motherhood. 1st time mum tend to be more panicky...and as bb still young they needs alot of your time and energy. So take care of yourself and enjoy motherhood.

Congrats Nichole & Welcome to motherhood!
It's commond that we'll get panic cos we care alot for our lil ones, just look back when my girl was w us, she got v bad nappy rashes, we quickly rush her to PD and funny part is we keep asking alot alot of questions. Luckily PD is very patience to answer all our questions

Hi BlesswBB (confuse)/SWEETCL05 (sweetcl05),

thx. I appreciate u ladies for sharing and it is a comfort to know that i am not alone. However, it also pains me to see baby cry for long hours and not knowing how to help her. Really wish there is some kind of workshop we can attend to lessen our stress as new parents.

Nicole,
There's only a few reason when bb cry. May I know how old is yr bb? If she/he is less than 3mths, they cry only for 4 reason. 1. Hungry 2.colic 3.they r cold or want mummy/daddy to carry. 4. Diaper is wet. Try to solve all these problem when the bb cry. If it continue crying non stop u need to monitor is it due to any other pain that requires u to bring yr bb to PD.

BlesswBB (confuse,

my baby is coming to 4 weeks old. Ya, i have read abt why they cry over the net but somehow when she cries (although i try to calm myself down) and ask myself what could be it? But her cries made me confused and hence worried and feel heart pain for her.

cos she can cry till her voice goes hoarse although i try to soothe her.

I suspect she has colic cos she seems to have some of the signs i read on the net but 1 pd i brought her to says colic doesn't exactly sets in till she is a month or older.

And she seems so relieve after she farted. Por baby! Mommy really is at a lost!

Nicole,
A mega hug from me on being a new mummy!! Sounds like yr baby has gas n needs to be burped slowly after each feed. Observe to see if it eases her crying. I assume she is on formula milk? What is she currently on? Do u have anyone helping u with baby?

Hi Mummyportia (mummyportia),

thx for ur mega hug, wat i needed most now, encouragement and support. Yes i guess she has gas too but she is quite an impatient drinker, whenever I try to stop and burp here she will cry and struggle and would only stop when i continue to feed.

Btw, is it ok if i start to give my baby grip water? I heard it's good to rid winds. I was given colic med for my girl but i find med not so good for young babies so i stop giving her after a few times.

Nicole, you can give some gripe water now that she's 4 weeks old. I remember my baby farted quite frequently when she was 1.5 months. But her condition improved after that.
for gripe water, one teaspoon and with 2 spoon of hot water. make sure it's not hot when you feed her. Feed her on empty stomach.
Also, apply the oilment on the stomach. make sure that it's the baby one.

iwantitvmuch (iwantitvmuch),

I was told that newborns cannot take gripe water till they are 2 mths old but i went ahead to get it today and gave her, her condition seems to hv improved but she still cries until she burps or farted.

Initially when she came i din put ruyi oil cos she has some bleeding on her umcilical cord after it dropped off cos dr says to keep it dry and i worry she may feel painful when it bleeds.

Now I will put for her religiously twice or more times if she cries and bend her legs and flushed face.

Nicole,
You can only give your baby gripe water after she's one month old. You apply few drops of Ruyi Oil on your palm and rub both palms to make it warm then place on your lil one's stomach. YOu can also do the same and apply on her/his feet.

My lil one have colic and PD prescribe Dentinox to her and after she consumes felt better. You can try this too.

Your baby is a girl or boy?

Blesswbb,
I remember that your girl have milk strike in her early stage. My girl these few weeks don't really like to drink milk and her weight dropped slightly.

I tried to give her cereal and also mixed with milk, she don't really like the mixture and struggle and cried very loudly.

PD mentioned I can give her carrot, potatoes... I read some articles mentioned that baby less than 6 mths should not start solid food.
She's now 4.5mths coming to 5mths....
HOw you managed to feed her when she's on strike.

SWEETCL05 (sweetcl05),

thx for ur advice, appreciate it. I have done that for her (putting ruyi oil for her). Dr presctibe for her rid-wind baby drops, but I rather not give her too much med as she is still quite young. We have a baby girl. (She will be 1 month old on sat)

Nicole,
I start giving gripe water to my girl even before she's 1mth. Like wat u said it better not to give too much medication. The milk that u make try to make it slightly hot and also keep bb tummy warm. It the colic still persist u might want to consider changing the formula milk.

Sweetcl05,
Yr girl sound like my naughty girl. Ok like wat my girl she doesn't take solid at 4.5mth. She tends to cry when given so I got no choice but to give chinese brown rice with milk(thick liquid form) and feed her thru bottle. The smell of the brown rice will cover the milk so they will tend to drink. U can get it at Chinese medical hall or even NTUC. Get those with Sisen powder.

Blesswbb,
Is the brown rice called "zao mi"?
Thanks. Hope she not so fussy....

Nicole,
Will you be celebrating her full mth this sat?
How's she now?
Hey you can tried this when she cried.
Last week I saw the TV variety mentioned that if baby cries non-stop for hours, you slip water in your mouth and make "water sound" (don't drink the water), baby will stop crying. I tried on my girl she stopped crying and look at me, haha...
think this only implement for older child cos they knw how to respond... I'm not sure, maybe you can try.

Sweet, brown rice is sold in Eu Yan Seng. If baby doesn't like the semi solid, maybe they are not ready yet. Now, I understand why the chinese feed brown rice. Like BlesswBB did, give her the brown rice first.
My baby take the brown rice in the eveining with her milk.

BlesswBB, I will try the water method when my baby cry next time.

SWEETCL05 (sweetcl05),

will only have a small gathering between my family and my in laws.

She is still crying but I think I have gradually become more used to her crying now and also trying to diiferentiate the different types of cries so i know what to do with her. I heart pain sometimes she cry till her voice hoarse, dunno will it affect her vocal cord in future.

Thx for the remedy i will try it out next time she cries. Do u mean like gurgle water in the mouth?

Another thing is she cried the most heartbreaking ones when she poo. I dunno is it bcos she is in pain at the anus area or is she scared of pooing. My poor baby! After she is done with her business, she looked so relief!

Nicole, do check if she has nappy rash. If she cries often, she might have more 'air' going into her system. At lease you know how to differentiate the different cries. I don't know how because my baby seldom cries. So, as she cries more nowadays, I sometimes don't know what she wants.

iwantitvmuch (iwantitvmuch),

she doesn't have nappy rash cos i alternate between diaper and nappy. And I checked her every time I change her diapers. My sis recommend me to use Desitin nappy rash cream, very good. Touch wood so far she is fine!

Ya, I also think she has a lot of wind in her little tummy. Cos she will burp very loud most of the time, if she doesn't after a feed, she will wake up, cry and I will carry her uprite for a while and she will burp.

Wa, ur baby so good. Must be a darling! Actually I haven't master which cries stands for wat but roughly knows cos i face her 24/7. Must really get a hang of it soon otherwise my poor baby had to cry for so long.

Btw, how old is ur baby now?

sweetcl05,
i donno what is called in chinese but in hokkien is called "Chou pi". Remember u need to cook under the stove to let it thicken before feeding. One of my friend is so blur sotong..she bgt the brown rice recently and din even cook it when she gave her daughter. Then she start complaining her girl don like it and having loose stool for more than 3 times a day after taking that. So remember to cook it before giving your girl.

iwantitvmuch,
Your girl seems to be showing her temper more often now huh? I can understand that...even as SHM i cant even differentiate what my girl wants when she cries. My girl is getting more naughty nowadays. She will get angry and hit start hitting herself when we don allow her to bite things. Really worried that she will have those self torture kind of behaviour.

Nicole,
Does your girl has hard or loose stool? If hard stool it could be that reason that she's crying. And what formula milk are u giving her? Similac or Nan1?

BlesswBB (confuse) ,

she is having normal stools(like mustard, haha). She is having similac, the agent told me to get a tin for her when she came to us as she was having that in the hospital.

hi ladies,

i have an important qn to ask. do u feed ur newborn babies water? i surf on the netand they discourage it cos it will cause babies to be intoxicated. oh dear i din know that, i hv been giving my girl water each time she cries b4 her feeding time. wat shd i do now!!!

Hi Nicole,
Big Congrats to you! Are you in Singapore now or Indonesia?

As for water, I think it is better not to give. I think max a day is 2 ounces but all baby needs now is milk.

dream (dream09),

thx, we are in s'pore now. can only go over after i got her birth cert and make passport for her. Hopefully will be sooner cos i miss my hubby very much.

I think this 2 days i gave her more than that cos i din awnt her to be stuck on pacifier. Poor baby, mommy feel so bad, not knowing whether what i did was rite or wrong for her.

When I read the net abt the signs of intoxication, i almost cried cos she has been sleeping the whole day today and only wake up crying for milk. 1 of the sign was drowsiness. Baby can also have seizures, swelling. Oh my god the more i think of it the more scared i m.

SWEETCL05 (sweetcl05),

ya, esp when she needs to poo. But her stool looks soft (like mustard, haha) and her anus is not red or ewollen. My mom says maybe she is scared of passing motion. And initially she poo a few times a day but small amt. But since 2 weeks ago, her appetite increased, her poo also increased but only once or twice a day. So I am puzzled what could hv cause her to cry until like that.

I have just called her dr but hv yet to get any reply. Hope he will call soon.

Btw, how do ur babies sleep? Do they need to be carried to sleep cos mine need (since this week). It is very tiring for me and my mom and i am trying to train her to sleep on her own but also feel she is a little too young to start that.

Help!!!

Nicole,
Don worry abt giving bb water. I still give bb water but only 2 times a day when she's young.
When u referring to sleep, r u referring to nite time or day time. During the day, we get her a rocker and she can sleep easily. Only during the nite, we will carry and rock her for awhile. When she abt to dose off we will put her into the baby cot and pat her to sleep. Did u get those bb rocker?

BlesswBB (confuse),

thx. Both day and nite time. Cos she just starting having this sleeping issue this 2 days. From the time she came to us till 2 days ago, she has no problem sleeping on her own.

But i have read somewhere on the net that babies change every week.

No i haven't got the rocker, how does it look like? Any pic?

Hi Nicole,
Don't panic. You are doing well so far. Regarding feeding of water, for the first few months, infant formula should be enough to meet their hydration needs, unless it's a really hot day. When you give water before her feeding time, her tiny stomach, is filled which means that intake of milk is reduced. At this point, you want them to be getting enought nutrition thru their milk.

Gripe water wise, my paed once told me not to give more than 20ml in a day. I usually put in a 'drop' with warm water after my bb's bath. Poowise, sleepwise and moodwise, it will change all the time. Just keep cuddling and cuddling and cuddling. All they need is security during the first few months, as they would have attachment issues etc. Everytime she cries, cuddle her. Colic usually reduces after about 3 months.

Btw congrats and welcome to motherhood
happy.gif
.

Nicole,
Just read your message on sleep. I think for the first 3 months, they will need as much security. I used to rock mine till he was asleep. at the point of time, he used to also have bad colic, so of course it was stressful and backbreaking. I never gave up, as I wanted bb to know that I am here for him, so even while I was helpless and everything I did to soothe him was not working, I just kept cuddling and singing to him. of course, my mum and hubby relieved me when i could not cope.

I think what blesswbb means by rocker is the sarong type.

babylove80 (babylove80),

thx for ur encouragement and advise, really needed it at this moment.

BlesswBB (confuse),

thx for the link, we have something similar but i was very reluctant to use it cos was worried baby will get so used to it and i will have problem too, like the ssarong.

But today i decided to give it a try and things seems to have improved! She seems happier and less cranky and i am more relaxed too. Thx

Another issue, i have seen some white spots in baby's mouth and gums. is it supposed to be of any concern cos my mom says my dad used to have something like that when he as a baby and it almost cost him his life.

I have surf the net but it is not very clear, prolly tmr will hv to bring baby to pd again. Sigh!
