Faithfully, one thing I've found is that many mothers and MILs are not aware how to make Bu soup too, or have good knowledge of Bu, so maybe your MIL falls into this category?

My own parents are a bit like that, so I just try to ask around and discuss with my mum. I guess as long as one side parent is helping to prepare the Bu (like your mum), the other side parents/ in laws may choose to lie low hee... My PILs just gave us a sum of money, and so far hasn't bought me any Bu too. I think I will have to do my own research since my parents both think we younger generation are over-reacting with the Bu factor, says during their time not much Bu but yet everything turned out ok heee... So bo bian, have to be independent then.... Many parents are quite Bo chap these days, so don't feel too bothered ok

Hi Sunbelle, yes dr Zou does an tai yao too but I feel Ban Choon Chong may be more popular/ reputable. I've heard from another TCM dr that dr Zou has only in recent years completed her TCM studies in Singapore, so maybe not as experienced as some established ones.

Hi Tanny, hope your vomitting will stop soon, been so many weeks right... Could it be triggered by certain food? Yes, hunger can worsen the nausea feeling, may cause vomitting hence. For me I find that a piece of wholemeal bread settles the tummy better than biscuits or powdered milk drink. Just keep eating ok

Weeks ago, if I don't get up and eat in the middle of the night, I'll get very bad gastric the next day, now water alone can fix the problem luckily. All the best to your meet up with midwife and dr, let us know if you learn anything new ok!

Hi Cook Cook, Oscar scan is typically done betw week 11-13 but it's preferred in week 12. It is to assess the risk of down syndrome via a simple scan and a blood test. Your dr should help you make the appointment closer to week 11. Meanwhile, you can google it and find out more, definitely worth a read

Dr Loh is so busy, last time I asked him about yoga and low placenta, he says cant see my placenta fr scan yet cos still initial stage of forming, and there is no such case of low placenta these days, so no worries for me, can start yoga anytime hmm... I think I will ask him to check for me again next visit.

Hi tromso if u r referring to the pregnancy policy from prudential, must b careful cos that does not cover ivf bb. For normal insurance that we can buy once bb is born u have to wait 1 mth b4 we can buy for our bb.

Interesting you said that cos my friend, natural conception, bought this Prudential life insurance and upon birth, baby found to have hole in the heart, so was covered. Dunno why IVF babies are so differently, I thought our risk is the same as any preggers after first trimester, sigh...

Meaning also no hospitalization plan covering baby since birth day 1 correct?

I've being quite busy, and yesterday internet connection down, couldn't lock in.
wow the threads are moving very fast.

Yup everyday like time not enough... my gal is down with flu since sat, we bought the nose drip for infant at guardian pharmacy and also the nose mucus extractor from pigeon (recommended by fren). HB and I will be bringing her to see dr at sengkang rivervale mall, kids clinic tonite.

for massage, I've not paid nadia yet, most likely end of the massage session. My tummy has strinked quite abit since discharge. Oh remember to buy the abdominal binder from guardian, nadia recommended me to buy it, she'll teach me how to use it on her last session. Got to faithfully wear it for 1-2 mths if not tummy will become saggy!!

Hazel, How's your gal? Will she be discharging today? Yup good for you, i can't sleep le...so watched those movies that i downloaded. Hiaz like wat hb says after attending wong bb's class, we will have different thinking from CL..my CL also abit stubborn at times..HB says to bear with her, another 3wks to go.... Yup CL keep telling us is normal for kids to have flu and no need see doc, which my HB of cos disagree la, so we intended to observe and monitor her 2 days like wat my fren suggested then bring her c doc today.

Yup, engorgement is painful ah..like last evening slept until 5am, suddenly my left boobs pain ah..no choice pain also must massage and used cold tower compress lor... then quickly start pumping out around 9am after breakfast. To improve milk supply, go pharmacy and buy fenugreek, it's prescribed by my gynae to increase milk supply. Alot of my frens' gynae also prescribed them fenugreek and it works. Before you pump, drink a cup of milk/red dates tea, then start to massage your breast for like 5-10mins then start pumping. Once milk flow is established, when the time you normally pump is here, it will naturally flow out and tat's how it reminds me to start pumping.

As for massage, take light meal 1-2hr before massage. And bath 1hr before massage cos after massage u can't bath anymore.

Have you gals wash your hair yet? aiyoyoyo my CL forbids me to, say muz wait till 12th day faintz. ah...............

if can go for epi, i spoke to my gynae 1 week after delivery, and she said that i dilated very fast during induction is thro help of epidural.
And i spoke to nadia my massage lady, she dilated very fast too, so not in time to have epi, she said without epi very cham cos u can feel the strong pressure around your rectum and vagina area and a strong urge to push. And the midwife will ask you to hold back cos is not the time to push, so can imagine the agony and pain. However with epi, u feel nothing, very relax when contractions sets in, midwife ask us to push we just push..

Oh ya, drink either milk/red dates/soup before pumping milk and another drink after to replendish. Do you on the aircon even in the day? It was sooo hot tat my hb told me to on the aircon around 4pm so that i can catch a short nap after he saw me perspiring like hell.

Chris, bb should be able to go home later this week. Is quite hard for me to pump regularly at 3 hrs interval coz bb is in hospital, rushing to & fro.. And since last night, I slept thru, so that today I feel better.. I am pumping now immediately after I came bk from hospital (hv not even eaten lunch), last pump was 7-8am.. I pump using machine for abt 20mins then I hand express.. Coz milk flow not established yet.. Hand express can get more out.. That is why I will take one hr.. I can see milk supply coming in.. If I can do it Every 3hrs, it will be faster.

On washing hair, I wash de d1 I return home with the rice wine water.

ER.. I dun think is common for new born to get flu in their first mth. They din even go out.. Where do get the virus from! Is tricky If new born gets sick. U r too accommodative with your CL. I wun be bothered what she said. Quickly being your bb go see a pD.

Bbliss, infant gym class is to improve bb motor skills. My big boss told me her gal cannot hop on 1 leg previously after she attended the gym class now her gal can do it. Like my cousin she can't skip and hop. Somehow she was like given cold shoulder in her ballet class and we guided her for a long time b4 she could do it. U can say its a class that tells the brain and mind to work together. The other class I want to enrol is music play school and language classes. Music stimulate right brain.

Juz had an argument with my boss no exp in handling matter I teach him what to do he dun do. Fed up I went to big boss. Big boss said i was right. Now I will not talk to my boss. Angry! 2nd argument in a day. Make my day so miserable. Argh!

i suspect my gal got her flu during her 1st PD checkup on Wednesday. We brought her to Mt alvernia, her appt was 9.30am and we waited till 12.20pm to see the PD there. There was alot of sick children having fever and cough..She got her flu on Sat. Me and hb also trying to recall how she could have gotten her flu, could it be tat it was quite windy when he brought her down to sun tan on thurs etc... so now we try to wrap her up as much as we can to keep her warm.

My Oscar scan today seemed to go well. The fluid behind the neck is 2mm and the nose bridge can be measured. Baby's heartbeat at 155 rpm, length is now 6cm, 2 over weeks ago is at 3cm. Waiting for blood test results to confirm. At first baby not in the right position, so went to the TMC cafeteria to eat (PLS DONT GO THERE UNLESS U HV NO CHOICE! expensive and not delicious). Then after that baby is in right position and scanned for some time. Happy to see baby moving

I also signed up for FBI card and was about to sign up for Mrs Wong BB's class when the lady tried to sell me a baby package with some perks inclusive of the lessons. The 5 lessons alone cost $304, and the package she is promoting costs $499. Anyone bought that package?

I think i'd start Mrs Wong's class on weekday evening in late april. Will be 25 weeks then.

Sasha I totally agree with u. My hb is excellent in Chinese I m totally opposite of him ..can speak but hardly read. So we will speak to my gal in mandarin as a family. Hb will teach her hokkein and malay to communicate with his mum and Cantonese and Hakka will b taught by my parents. I will speak to my gal in English haha.... Many of my frens send their kids to tian hsia. There is another one called Hua language but my fren said its not as effective as tian hsia. So tian hsia is also my choice too.

oh i've inverted nipples, need to pump 1st to get the nipple out before bB can latch on. Very tough to adjust my timing to match bb's so i pump 1st, and sometimes latch on, so fat bb knows how to latch on quite well. BB big eater ah.

Good for you figure returning back ah!! Me too tummy now almost gone. Now like 3-4ths preggy. If you try to lie down more often will be better, i was running around when i discharged cos CL not around during eve and CNY.

My sil has being telling us to bring bb to polyclinic for her 1st appt cos pte PD very ex exp those at the hospital. But me and HB rather spend more to go bk to the same PD who handled our BB at the hospital cos he got all BB's records and also we try not to bring bb to polyclinic as alot of sick people there and bb immunity super low. However on wed when we brought bb to the pte PD at mt alvernia, we got a shock, its chaos lor, cos just after CNY alot of kids sick, even the parents are sick lor. I was complaining to HBs tat how ah, a few of the kids there are down with fever and flu..and their parents also never put on masks and just sneeze and cough infront of us. I'm not trying to be mean but look around there are at least 6 infants there waiting to see doc for their 1st appointment. Really wondered if my bb caught the flu there...aiyoyoyo

lotsa brochures and questions etc..good news she requested for me an ultra sound in the hospital..but for the Doppler device today, can't hear anything..cos 'too small' the midwife said..a tad disappointed but well there's always another time..

Not really slept thru cos have toilet visits 3-4 times..im counting down to 2nd trimester..you're hitting 2nd trimester soon too right or are you already in it? The midwife visit was just i ask her questions..oh only thing is that she mentioned that those prone to UTI, to get some intimate bath-gel wash specially for sensitive areas like the pte parts. Hehe..seems like im the KiaSu one as their culture is like very very relax..anyway im currently trying to continue on my readings (book of babies and infant care)..it's really insightful

Actually early in infancy interaction is mainly with bb's primary caregiver(s)..eye contact/ cooing/gurgling sounds/cries are bb trying to communicate. And each child's way of communicating is different

The geez is to learn your own bb's way and teach them yours

To share what i've read on the book i mentioned to tromso:

There is a whole long list of reflexes present at birth and they are indicators of bb's development --which i think some are useful to know:


1) Rooting and sucking reflex: If you touch the cheeks of newborns, they begin to search for a nipple with their mouth. When mouth is touched, they start to suck. (good to do this to encourage breastfeeding)


2) Hand to mouth reflex: If newborns' mouth and palm are touched, they put their hands in their mouth. This is useful for clearing mucus in the early days because when they suck on their fist, they can swallow easily.


Reading thu i am so amazed by how naturally, BBs can do these..and i am so so eager to try out on my bb myself in time to come!

It took me quite sometime to come back to motherhood. I was in a TTC thread with Sashamama years back and everyone in ther BFP...
Decided to try IVF this year hence was told by her to come in here and seek advice from all of you positive ladies here.

I have some questions to ask with regards to IVF, hopefully some of you will be able to assist me.

1) Do I have the same subsidy in SGH and KKH?
2) What is the amount I have to pay in Cash?
3) How long do I have to take to start the actual process of inserting the fertilised eggs into my body?

Gynae in KKH has scheduled me to see her at the end of Feb to decide if I wan to start IVF.

Ya hazel, my hb also asked me on sat how much we have spent on my gal so far from tests at Kk to tcm to gynae visit. Initially i said not much (not wanting to stress him) cos we can claim some from our respectively co. Then he insist on a fig so I told him. Lucky he din react after i told him a ball park fig. Nvm we will work harder for our kid.

Coz I wan to buy hoapitalisatoon plan for her ASAP after she is 1 month old... If not, even KKH is ex.. My gf brought her bb to KKH A&E and was warded at A class. She told me 2 nights stay estimated cost $2kplus.. Terrible right?

They uses different methods and in house syllabus (mostly roughly the same(for the lower levels)-- ranging from rhymes, songs, recognizing simple 'bihua' and words,stories, games. Each sch has their own set of newly learnt word cards/worksheets(done in class&no homework) to bring home after every lesson. Apart from this, long before(say 10yrs ago) Berries strictly don't use teachers from china, cos each hv their dialects and tones..but then say these few years as it's getting more difficult to get local teachers, they hv included teachers from china as well in their teaching staffs..But TH has been having teachers from china from the very beginning..actually i think every school has their own environment and do drop by and see the environment for the different sch/diff branches and it's a different feel every where..see where you think your child will like..cos children learn and grow positively from a good environment

And of course see/compare fees&timings (some are weekends and some are weekday nights)..cos till then you have to think of your wallet and schedule

The so-called package includes WBB's class fees plus $100 for $1000 worth of purchase at the chop at TMC, plus free delivery for full month cakes, plus free workshop on weaning, plus a professional coming to see you after you deliver. I doubt it's worth it cos I don't intend to buy stuff from there.

The lady wanting to sell me kept saying WBB's class is 300 plus. The 'package' is 499. Eventually i asked 300 plus is exactly hw much, she said 304. Meaning the difference is nearly $200 lo! I doubt I'd get!!!

Yes, it is indeed very satisfying to see baby move around for so long. Hehe... First room i went to no tv, only got the screen beside me. Then baby not in the right position. Then when second try, it is a different room and different sonographer and there is TV other than the screen, easier for me to see baby. During the scan, also measured arms and thigh bones.

I also think your folks are rather senior at 70. Are they the very active type who exercise daily and very mobile? Taking care of infant especially at night can be very exhausting. Bathe baby or change diapers must keep bending also.
