Ford fbing mums, do ur breasts have shooting pains on n off? Cos I do. Is it normal or does tat means I have blocked ducts.

 


claudia : yup, can say so that i am alway home alone.. Although my father don work, but been visiting CC so often, plus in & out of the hse very freq.. LOL~~ ya.. coz they gripe their hand all the time, so got abit dirt in their finger nails.. I alway try to cut bit by bit every day.. but abit tiring worz.. >_<|||



Ya... BB really can feel mummy's the feeling.. Whenever i am feeling moody, my boy also feel moody.. >_<|||

All mummy is really "wei da" have to work, have to take care bb, have to do hsework, have to cook.. So many things to do, yet little time we have.. and this is how much mummy can give too.. Mummy's body & mind muz be strong too.. hai~ hang in mummy...



slp thru the nite my boy can slp thru the nite.. but than his last feed is alway 12midnite til next day like 7am or 8am.. He can stretch abt 8hrs at nite without milk.. Yes, in the middle of the middle he will still make sound like "eh eh eh" but i nv touch or pat him.. i let him dift back to his lalaland..



tu tu my boy still cannot accept tu tu.. no use holding for him or wat.. he will cry like hell.. >_<|||



bottle feed manage to let him drink from bottle with FM.. starting off from 30ml, than 60ml, than 90ml.. tat's it.. he just stop 90ml but still insist wan to latch on for like 5min than sactify.. if not he will "gek" until face red red... hai~~ but at least he is tried drinking from bottle.. lol~

i had those shooting "pains" when i was still pumping. it means new supply of milk coming in. not blocked duct, coz i've din have blocked ducts



i wanna ask - if you dun have engorgement, or blocked ducts, does that mean you're not producing enough milk? actually wanted to attend that BF talk tmrw so i can ask but it's a work day, so cannot go

after that, then i try again....see if instead of feeding him milk, if i carry him till he goes bk to sleep can or not. At least try to drop one of the nite feed from 2 feeds to 1.

Sun tan - I did when I used to bf. Pain from milk coming in is not sudden... It lingers on for mine after feeding When I had my mastitis and abcess, pain was sudden and shooting. If this helps?

Jia you! If it helps and u can stand it.. My friend juz shared with me that to prepare for gg back to work, she juz keep letting her boy cry (2.5mths) from 4-7am he will cry loud loud for 2 weeks then he got the idea and slept thru! I dunno if I can do it man! Sounds torturous!!!

Vernie - yupz I think it's really dependent on individual... I stopped bf a month ago. Went cold turkey. Till now milk from left breast still keep spurting out. Taking the pill now to try stop. Menses not here yet

I try to stop my Bm supply just pump 3 times aday, but breast

always pulling and shooting pain.can I know how to stop bm supply completely ?

u try giving last feed at 12mn then if bb wakes up in the middle of the nite, u can try giving water to let bb noes that it's nite time n waking up at this time is not gonna hv milk.....

try using cabbage....can ease engorgement n it can decrease ss as well then u drag ur pumping time...that way ur body will adjust to the 'low' demand n soon stop...try not to take med to stop as most of my friends who takes med after that commented that their cupsize shrink.....

 
sun_tan: i had strong shooting pain when i latch my gal on one of my breast. it gets sooo painful sometimes that i cant slp for 2 hrs till the paimn slowly subside! n it only comes from the same breast only...



claudia: yay! am happily pumping away.. managed to clear the blocked duct.



i'm pumping 3-4 times a day, 7am, 2pm, 8pm and 12am... 6-7 hrs apart but each time very engorged still..

I had shooting pain when I latch my boy too initially. It is caused by abrasion when sucking and I had blister on my nipple. The pain didn't go off until I use the medela purelan cream. You should check to see if there's any blister on your nipple. If yes, can try the cream. Hope this helps.

if u planning to circumcise ur boy, do soon. i heard after 3mths, they will know what pain is... so he will likely fuss but it will not b as bad as getting him to be circumcised when he is like 1yo or older...

Hey sweetkiss, perhaps that breast your girl is not latching correctly. After all these months you are still having such pains.. really sorry to hear that.



For me i have converted to pure pump but I do still latch my son occasionally (most of the time when he is cranky and we r warming his milk up, i just latch him first). I am pumping every 3-4 hours a day so it is quite shiong too... but the last time i got lazy and stretched to 5-6 hours.. my supply actually dipped!

Cos we have consult PD before n there is no guarantee tat the skin won't grow back when they r growing up, so we r indecisive of whether wanna do or not.

even until today, i latch my bb so often, my supply stiill unstable... sm days enough to feel my son, some days not enough... i hope after going for the talk tmr, i canlearn something new... anyhow, 3 more months to work on feedlingmy bb w bm until he weans...

 
Suntan>> going to Children & Baby Surgery @Gleneagles Medical Ctr. It's $500 to do the circumcision. We chose the ring method & BB will be under LA. Doc said no need special aftercare. Can bath & diaper change as per normal. Best to do it when they r v young cuz less painful. We decided to do it for hygiene purpose le.

sleeping through

My boy started sleeping through since he was like 7wks old.. nowadays he auto wanna zzz ard 7 plus. Then I will bathe him, feed him and then swaddle him. He will then fall asleep on his own in the room. Of coz I still give him a dreamfeed ard 1030pm (bringing it forward, hope to bring it to 10pm eventually). He will Zzz till 7ish in the morning.. but hor, he will not wake up asking for milk.. most times he talks to his mobile. I gotta grab him and feed him if not he doesn't seem to want milk at 7ish or 8am!



Pacifier

He's not using pacifier and I hope I don't have to intro it...When my little boy wanna suck on his fist/fingers, I will let him do it a while then gently pull it away...

 
Pain in breast: me on total ebm, I usually experience a few types of pain, nipple/aerola pain, pain when e milk comes in, engorgement pain n recently throbbing pain in the breast. I dunno what's the cause for the last one.



Breast pump: how often do u all change the shield n membrane??



Work n taking care of bb: somehow I think given a choice I'll love to stay at home take care of bb full time n watch him grow, now even thou it's my own mum taking care of him, when I go out to run errands I'll still wan to finish up n quickly take care of him on my own. Nothing wrong with how my mum handle him but I think I just feel that I am the best person to take care of him lol, think I'm too possessive le.

 
Phy: wah I envy u lei! My boy will b turning 10 weeks tomorrow but still wakes up ard 2 to 3 am n then again at 6 to 7 am. Nw my body clock all messed up le, I will b awake till his 2 to 3 am feed, then aft feeding him pump milk then slp near 4 am then wake up ard 7, feed him, pump milk then go bk to slp then again wake up ard 11 to 12noon for his next feed n pump then finally my day starts... Going bk to work soon dunno how I'm gg to endure this...

Any of u go through this b4? My boy is feeding lesser n lesser, was drinking at least 700+ but just this week he only drinks 600+. n it's dropping, till yesterday he only drinks 610 ml. Last few days he cried when I try to feed him, but this morning after drinking 40 ml he stopped le, no matter how I try to feed him he just refuse to drink but never cry. He is 10 weeks old today. What can be wrong with him?? Or is it just a phase of 'hong sim'?

CT: When did he take his jab? Usually fever will be gone after 2 days. Hope he’s better now. If your son is prone to fever after jab, you might want to take some preventive measures next time. For mine, we gave him a bit of pearl powder the night b4 the jab and immediately after the jab, we gave him a bit of water and upon reaching home, we feed him the fever medicine even b4 he develops any fever. I heard that some people feed barley instead of the pearl powder as well.



Ica: I’ve never had engorgement b4 even if I don’t pump for 8hrs. Last time my ss was on the low side but now it has went up and even surpass my son’s demand. My boobs are slightly on the bigger side but not sure if it has any relation. Every 3-4hr I can pump abt 120ml.



Taking care of bb after work resume: My ILs stay 10 min from my workplace. So in the morning, hubby will drive me & bb to ILs place. After work, I’ll go over to ILs to wait for hubby to come and have dinner and then bring bb home. I hope to bring bb home every night. But if sometimes we are busy or got other commitments, then we might leave the bb with ILs for 1-2 nights per week. When I was a kid, my parents could only bring me home during weekends, hence I don’t wish for the same for my dear son. Hence as much as possible I will bring my bb home.



Sleeping Thru the Night: My boy was sleeping through the night (woke up at 6.30-7am) for 4 consecutive nights but last night he woke up at 4.30am. Think he was quite moody yesterday cos he didn’t poo for 2 days (usually he poo everyday at least once) hence wasn’t so active in the day. Hopefully he’ll sleep thru tonight. I didn’t really train my son cos the very night I decided to start training him, he slept thru by himself. But what I did was, I feed him at 1030 then change his diaper and wipe him. Throughout this period, I keep talking to him and tell him he must be a good boy and sleep till morning. And then it just happened! I wanted to feed him a bit of water if he wakes up in the middle of the night and use pacifier etc to drag his feed but in the end there was no need. My fren used the “feed water” method on his son, recommended by another mommy, and it worked well for him.



Changing membrane and shield: For membrane I read that it’s every 3 months. But think also depends on how often you use it. So long as there’s no wear & tear and the suction is still ok, can continue using. For shield I don’t see a need to change it cos it seems pretty durable.

 
erm..i fed pao sheng the day be4 he take the jab then reach hm 1 dose of the fever medication...he only gt temperature raise til 37.1 the next day..but didn't develop into fever..anyway this KS mummy here still paste a cooling gel on his head to bring the temp dwn..

 
bbbliss: yes i have a blister but it has been there for weeks.. like a tiny white pimple. i use the purelan cream everyday after bathing. i had to squeeze the blister like a pimple and "scratch" the skin out before i could unblock the duct! wad a relief it was...



Jaclyn: think i typed wrongly, the pain doesnt come when i latch, it comes about half an hour after latching and lasts for ard 2 hours, on-off shooting pain... dunno why leh.. and it seems to come frm the breast tissue.



i give my gal wadever ebm i have expressed in a day, after she finishes them then start to give her FM.. nite time and first morning feed i latch her, but she usually takes 1 breast only.



My supply also dipped long time ago.. this morn no time to pump & i am now at work with an engorged breast.. not very "healthy" leh.



is there any way to increase supply back with frequent pumping? if yes i decide to buy another set of spare parts so i dun need to sterilise my pump 2 times in the morn..



kepsis: is normal de if it doesnt persists. my girl also like that but my PD told me babies have their moodswings. so as long as is just for a while nvm.

My boy usually drink his milk (120ml) at 8.30pm and goes to sleep. He will wake up at about 2.30 -3am for milk - 6 hours straight. I wanna train him to sleep till 7am as I will be going back to work soon. If I give him dreamfeed at 10.30pm, how much should I give him? 120ml (will it be too much) or 80ml?

I also have the pimple-liked blister. I got 2 and my breast always get engorge with lumps due to these 2 block ducts. I also scratch the blister to get rid of the dead skin so that milk can flow. It's really painful. As for shooting pain, I experience it during latch or pump. After that can still feel pain on and off for almost an hour. I think no choice, gotta endure the pain unless we stop bf.

Doctor sidek more popular for Doctor Tahir at Eunos Mrt is just a normal GP clinic.



Ring method is actual to hold the outer layer of the skin from growing. It will drop off after 5 days. For 1st day after bird skin cut, it will look swell. Dont panic, bb will sleep cause there is pain killer for the bb. Just bath normal and use pampers normal. Doctor Sidek will also give a special Cream to heal the wound and also prevent infection.



My uncle son goes to doctor Tahir the cheaper one, does not have cream and only give panadol. He paid $100.



I go Clinic Sidek paid medisave $350, i get cream and pain killer ( Not panadol) ...



Both clinic use same method. Only the clinic popularity different.



I regret never do for my 9 & 6 yrs sons. So the 2 sons will go for laser which is better for bigger boys.

 
Suika: he was taking in abt 900 ml roughly ard 6 weeks so I guess tts his growth spurt, but now like drop v badly, 3am he drank 120 ml at 7am he drinks 40ml n nw at 10am he totally dun wan to drink Liao... What's happening to him???

 
bbbliss: ya very painful when dealing with the blister rite? i find that doing it in the shower helps. cos skin will be damp then easier to scratch dead skin out. ytd i scratched till a bit bleeding lo.

 
Irene my bb went on 6 October 2010. Today the fever subside. Thank GOD!



The two jabs could be the one given him fever. The 5th month jap i will just tell the doctor to do alternate days so that my boy will not suffer.

I also scratch until bleed. And worst is it is still block. My breast is so painful till wanna cry. Ask hubby to massage also no use. In the end I get my son to 'help' by latching. Do u latch your baby? If yes, can try this method. When latching your baby, place the position such that his nose is pointing towards the direction of your blister. By doing this, the milk ducts will be cleared without any pain and also the blister is gone in a week or so. The blister is caused by the position and the way our baby suck. So I always get blister on one of the breast only. By using this method, it easier to deal with the blister and block ducts. Hope this helps.

 
bbbliss, i had the blister for very long le! even when i do not have lumps or engorgement the blister is there like a pimple. same like u, only on the same breast.. i even thought of using a sterile needle to poke it.



it was until recently the blister somehow broke on its own.. but came back again on that day when i didnt latch cos baby wasnt staying with me.. i slept on my side, dunno if it's the cause.. usually if bb sleeps with me i sleep on my back.

yes if you pump more frequently your supply will go back up de. Yes pls go ahead and buy more pump sets.. i have 3! So when I go out i can just pump then put into a plastic bag, nx pump session use a new set. Then sterilize all when I get home.

Its not really expensive and saves alot of hassle.

I also feel like poking when I first noticed it. It really looks like pimple to me. Imagine I got 2. Sometimes I really wonder how my boy suck. LOL

 
kepsis, for about 1 week she refused milk, if manage to get her to drink she only drinks like 50ml.. her usual intake is 150ml. when i cont to push the teat in her mouth she will cry. then she also nv poo cos she usually poos daily. i was so worried that time. after that 1 week her feeding slowly went back to normal again.



bbbliss: ya lor.. i'm thinking of how to latch her with her nose pointing to the blister. blister on a tricky position. bb head will need to lie on my left arm but latching on the right boob? so challenging!

Better to do it now than later cuz can be traumatizing. And if next time kenna infection, worse.



It's a personal choice lah so it depends. Can check with your HB if he was circumcised or not cuz I think for HBs that were circumcised, maybe they will be more receptive to having it done for their sons too.

that time my boy went IFC on monday and nv go le...



He seems to have stuffy nose(produce the sound like a pig..) and a bit of occasionally cough, went to PD on wed and he mention virus in IFC doenst spread so fast one..



Must be me la.. tat time i have cough and flu..even wore mask at home liao but he still kana a bit of virus.. but lungs everything ok.. at least better now le...

It has been like a week that my boy flip 1/2 way and had difficult in sleeping (esp the time like 3plus am-5 plus that kind)



he will turn halfway and then try to sleep sideways, then when i helped him turn to sleep on his back, he turn back again! then he nid the pacifier to sleep with him, but sleep sideways the pacifer tend to drop and he try to grab it.



How to make him sleep better? hmmmm

Sweetkiss: I’ve 2 set of pump parts and it’s really more convenient. Try to pump before and after work and before u sleep so that u can pump at least 4 times a day. Maybe during weekend pump 1-2 more times. Other than frequent pumping, you might want to consider taking some supplement. I am taking fenugreek seed tea recommended by one of the mommies and it works for me and quite cheap. 1 packet of fenugreek seed at Sheng Siong is only 60cents and can last me abt 1 week. Just put 2 tablespoon of fenugreek seed to abt 1-1.5litres of water to make the tea. I take 3-4 cups a day.



Kepsis: my son is in exactly the same situation! During his growth spurt at 6th week, he was taking ~900ml and I was so worried that is he drinking too much. After then it keep dropping and fluctuating till around 600ml. Then yesterday he quite moody, maybe cos he nvr poo, and only took ~500ml. We tried to feed more but he strongly refuse. But the funny thing is sometimes he will gobble up 120ml at 1 shot and sometime it’s a challenge to even feed him 40ml. It has been going on for 2-3 weeks. Taking him for his jab on Tue and will ask PD about it.

Try using a pillow. I also had the problem with positioning my boy. The blister on the left side of my right breast. What I do is I lie him down on my pillow and put him on my right side and use my hand to support his neck and head. The pattern is like the football hold. Using the pillow is good as u don't need to carry him when the position is awkward. Furthermore u can push his head to your nipple easily. U give it a try.

 
Cheese: I realize tt for my boy when I let him slp one side the mucus will flow out whereas if let him slp on his back e mucus will be stuck so perhaps ur boy trying to make himself comfortable by turning to the side? Wat I do to keep his pacifier in his mouth is to let him hug the middle of his bean sprout pillow so that the top of the pillow will b somewhere ard his mouth n that will keep the pacifier in his mouth most of the time, if he sleep on his back I will put two bean sprout pillow beside his face so tt the pacifier will hv lesser chance of dropping out.

 
Irene: yes yes exact same situation! Yesterday one of the feeding he drank 150 ml! But today he drink 40 then stop le. Did u feel ur boy lost weight? I see my boy tummy soft soft flat flat like lost a lot of weight, so heart pain. Can let me know what ur pd says after u c him/her? My pd says it's ok n gave me a med probiotic for his intestine, say it will help improve his appetite, but seems like it's not working.
