My bb is on partial FM, 6 wks plus, about 110ml to 120ml of Nan HA 1. Poo poo at least once a day.
Question: When making FM, usually the quantity will be higher after adding in the powder. Say if u put 100ml water, the final feed amount is around 110ml. Just wanna check if you want the final quantity to be 100ml, do u just put 90ml water? How does this work? I am afraid I am not putting the correct scoops to the amt of water.

Shann - My PD prescribed Fucidin for my boy and i think it cleared the white spots on his neck in a few days, maybe 3-4 days. Not sure about the rashes. It seems effective for my boy.

sun_tan, xbeanniex: I'm trying to stick to 3 hr, even my PD advised to stick to 3 hr routine but if this goes on, won't get sleep. I used to top up with FM immediately after his EBM/latch. But now he falls asleep easily.
Once I expressed 100ml, he drank only 80ml, waste my milk. I have tried to express rather than latch but heard that pumping will reduce milk flow. Is it true? I;m lazy to pump in the early mornings like 3am cos i am really tired....

Hi mummies, anyone of u know if i give FM to my baby for 1 mth, will she be able to latch on and accept BM later?
As u all know i am down with mastitis rite.. it is still recovering so i dunno how long before i can BF. i am afraid the longer i wait, the less milk i get and baby may not want to latch in future. currently i pump and throw. but due to the condition of my breasts, i cant pump too much.
my doc also told me if i am still producing BM while i am recovering, the BM may keep getting infected. on the other hand, with BM supply, it takes longer to recover. i am torn between continuing to BF or to stop. but i really want to continue..

I spoke to my CL just now..told her my HB not very happy lor. And I said she shld have asked us if her friend can use our shower....then she said ya, that part she's in the wrong. Cuz she said her friend asked if can shower b4 she goes off, and my CL said she paisay to say no. DUH! Then I told her, if she paisay, come ask us lah..not as if we are not @ home...then we tell her friend CAN or CANNOT.
Really must give her yellow card liao. Another 2 more weeks to go!

SK -- is the pain bearable? still can tahan how long? which one u want more? recover and get on with life or recover and be able to bf bb? scenerio might be.. u recover but supply stop.. then u waste time waiting for it to recover while actively pumping and trying to keep supply up and end up with no supply..
this is the only thing i worry for u about... then u will be disappointed lei... cause imagine u have to pump and pump and endure and take a longer time to recover. end up u recover liao, no supply or perhaps having to restart the whole thing to get ur supply back.

FM: dun hv to follow the tin....it can b coz the FM too heaty that's y bb no poo....mayb u can try change another FM.....normally bb feeding on similac got such problem coz the content is quite heaty but supposed to b 1 of the good FM....u can try to dilute it instead.....wad i do is 1scoop (supposed for 60ml oni) i put water to 100ml...she now feeding on 100ml each time n so far she's ok.....i oni give her 1 time FM each day

ya, think about it. and i agree with Serene - if FM jiu FM, baby will still get the nutrients. have a thought about your health too
when i was pregnant, my dream was to TBF baby for at least 6 mths and to have my fridge stocked with bottles of EBM. alas! that dream remains a dream...my baby is now only getting EBM for 1 feed a day only - for breakfast coz that's the most important meal of the day. hah!

i think the amount of milk per feed depends on how often the bb drinks...my bb (6 weeks going 7 weeks) takes about 110 to 120ml per feed every 3 hour...at night can stretch to more than 3 hours...total about 7 feeds per day..
mummies whose bb is taking lesser than 100ml but more frequent (say every 2 hour) will end up the same bah (in terms of the total amount of milk taken by bb)...

mrslong: 2-3 weeks back, when almost time to express milk and I not in time to take bottle for the other breast's leaking milk, milk also spray out and once even scare my HB slping beside .. he thought who so naughty to spray water at him...

ya lor. FM is heaty, i agree. once in a while i also give baby some water, esp. during hot days, max 5ml to help in her bowel movement

i once tasted mine and it was sweet coz of the red date tea. then when i stop taking the tea, no taste liao. hahaha!

ica: i m getting the Fenugeek from GNC later... I am too stress at my in law here and no more having those princess treatment from my mum ... my mum prepares the papaya soup for me on alternate days and hor really powerful lor.. haiz... now have to depend on the capsules, hopefully will have milk...

my baby's almost 5 wks and i've changed to teat no. 2 (ie. 1 mth) about 1 wk back coz after drinking her milk, she looked like she just ran a marathon - looked very tired lor. but be careful when you change coz the flow is relatively faster and your baby is used to the no. 1 teat. 1st few times, my baby choked so had to remind her that it's teat no. 2 and to go slow

ica: i get what u mean... i notice this from my gal too, what i did is i pull out bottle once awhile in case she suck too much milk at one time. hahaha... think this is oso the reason y she reject my breast for feeding... as milk flows speed is different from bottle teats...
Hmm… bb has been sleeping for 4.5hr still don’t wanna wake up! Think the weather is too cooling. My bb is 3 weeks old and can drink ard 110-120ml per feed. So far record is 140ml. Usually we feed him 6 feeds a day cos he can latch for 1 hr and then wait for 3 hrs before the next feed.

Vernie: so far we do not purposely wake the bb up. But somehow ard 11 plus to 1 am, he will ask for his milk once. Then the next time will be ard 3.30-4.30 am before waking up in the morning like 7+. Think you can try to schedule his feeding such that he has a feed at midnite then u probably only need to wake up ard 4am for just 1 feed.
Mrslong: ur CL is really ultimate! Even my parents won’t ask their friends to come to our house to bath loh. Think you better watch ur CL carefully so that we won’t have more pattern.

Ling: Is ur milk already the “mature milk” or still “transitional milk”? transitional milk tends to be more dilute and BM is certainly more diluted than FM, that’s y easier to digest and we no need to give bb extra water. the 1 hr feed thingy just occurred today or has been going on for a few days? Cos if just 1 or 2 days like that, then maybe bb going thru growth spurt. Actually ur milk supply of 80-100ml every 3 hr is very good considering ur bb is 2 weeks old. And in total ur bb latch for abt 25 mins which is normal too, so I think ur bb should be getting enough milk. But if you have extra EBM or don’t mind giving ur bb some FM, u can try feeding ur bb a bit more with the bottle/cup and see whether he can last longer before his next feed.

i'm taking GNC fenugeek. dunno issit my body but like not much effect leh. i find if it's in liquid form, it's more readily absorbed by body and gets converted to BM faster - just my thot...since we need to take in more fluids to produce more milk right?

Irene: wat's mature or transitional milk? Can't tell the difference. I usually pump 4 hr later, only let bb latch twice a day cos of my sore nipples. He doesn't take the extra milk when i pump 100ml, only drinks up to 80 ml. Have to wake up him in the middle of feed. My 2wk old bb seems to be sleepy.

Mummies going back to work: please start training bb to take the bottle. I've been fully latching my bb because it's easier than pumping and I enjoy the bonding. Unfortunately my bb enjoys it too.too much! Today was the third time in 2 weeks that she rejected the bottle.the first time she cried for 2 hours and I couldn't go out to meet friends. In the end I stayed home and latched her. Just now also, cried for half hour before I gave in and latched. Dunno why sometimes she's ok with bottle but sometimes just refuses to take and will cry bloody murder out of hunger. How to go back to work like this...
