(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Babycoco: she's inconsistent, once she refused to take the bottle from me, once she refused from hubby and I wasn't in the room. Hubby surrendered after half hour but in the end she took the bottle from me...just now she refused from my mum even though I was not ard. Can't figure out her pattern..

peanuts: if u're not SAHM then better to intro bottle early if not the caretaker will hv a hard time feeding later....mi now at times latch at times bottle coz i'm gg back work early this time

peanut: How I wish I have your problem!! Now my son refuses to latch. Everytime I latch him.. he protests and wails... so vocal now. It also gets soo frustrating and tiring for me to latch him. When I latch him properly, he pushes his head back and latches himself wrongly .. aiyo.... ! Sometimes at night im so super tired that I let him latch however he wants, then the next day I will suffer with very sore nipples. =(

Baby update: Today I went to the PD for 1st mth assessment... baby is now 4.4kg (birth weight 2.9kg). Doc says he gained 1.5 in 1 month while normally the average weight for babies to gain in a month is 1kg. OMG man! He doesn't seem fat to me though.. he is quite long so maybe thats where the weight went. Baby also went for his 2nd dose of Hep B. Any of you mommies seeing Dr Ong Eng Keow (International Baby clinic @ Mt A)? He is my baby's ped but the wait seem to be super duper long at the clinic. Good thing now newborns can cut queue.. but after 2mths they have no more priority. Hubby and I thinking to see another PD cos the crowd at this clinic really crazy!

Jaclyn,

oh so dr ong is now at mt A. I used to take #1 to see him when his clinic was at TMC. He is gd but queue super long. Then I changed to another PD at Holland area.

Today GP also measured my one month old. He weighs 4.8 kg and 56cm long. Gained 1.1kg and 4cm.

But he didn't do the assessment wor

jaclyn, you only did the hep b 2nd dose? you didn't do the 6-in-1, rota, pneumo? your bb gained a lot of weight, how long is he now?

irene>> wah, your BB drinks quite abit. My boy is in his 3rd week now but still drinks the same...abt 60ml each time for 2-3hrs feed.

BTW, is it normal for BBs to hv constipation for a few days?

Babycoco,

so our babies r same length and weight [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] my boy also took 2nd dose of hep B today. Still thinking if I should continue with this GP or go to polyclinic.

Irene,

think my 180ml this morning was due to boy latching on so many times yesterday. Surge in supply wor. Last night felt milk leaking and gotta wake up to change my t shirt.

So can I conclude we can bring bb for jab at polyclinic which only have 5 in 1 jab, gp or pd?

Pd more exp than all right? Second is gp & third polyclinic.

But I think gp can't pay using CDA right or some can?

Hi mommies, how long do you latch your babies?

I latch my boy about 15 mins each feed, only on 1 breast and he is satisfied and full after latch. His next feed will be 3 hrs later. Each time I can only BF 1 of my breast so that he consume the complete set of milk. I will give my boy the other breast on his next feed. But after 6 hrs, my breast gets engorge with painful lumps and I need to empty my breast by pumping. I'll get approx 200ml on the engorged breast. Any way to help engorge breast other than pumping? Does that mean my supply is more than what my boy demands?

bbliss

i also like tat.. dun worry.. its alright.. jus pump out if u feel uncomfy.. sometimes if i can tahan, i jus let it be and let bb latch on at the next feed. let down will be faster, so be careful.. unless i both side also engorge and bb is fussy over letdown then i pump.. i also get about 200ml..

My baby is 3 weeks plus.. But still having jaundice.. Anyone in same situation as me.. PD suggest to do liver function test next week.. Quite worried about it.. I tried to goggle in net and realised that as me & my bb is of diff blood gp, sometimes, it might arises in jaundice.. wonder if i should stop giving bb EBM?

Keer,

my friend's daughter jaundice dragged for 2 months. My friend just continued to TBF her daughter. Her girl now 14 mths already. U don't have to stop bfing. Y did ur pd suggest that? Is the level high?

Mummies with 2 or more kids

anyone of u didn't send kids to childcare and kids r looked after by 1 caregiver? Be it yourself or mil or mother or helper. Is it tough?

I'm in dilemma. Hubby n I don't like idea of helper and sending #1 to childcare. My mil said she would like to try looking after both... Hmm I don't know if it can work or not. Afraid too taxing on mil.

Hi Phy - His jaundice level is 15.2.. Not that low and not that high.. But, it's still high enough to be monitered.. A bit worried for him.. Thanks for your advice... Currently, I'm still sticking to provide him with ebm as I find it wasteful to throw the milk away and my fridge is going on full..

Any mommies intend to buy deep freezer to store ebm? Understand that deep freezer can store the milk between 6-12 months.. If we play safe to store for 6 months, and we still continue to have fresh supply everyday.. We will usually give the fresh milk first as once milk is freeze, some antibodies will be destroyed.. Then, the milk which is then stored in the freezer will go to waste as it expired.. Then, what's the purpose to buy the freezer??? Any mummies having similiar dilema?

ceres: some GP can use cda acc....healthway grp is 1 of those clinics that can use

keer13: i'm keen in the freezer but like not much plc to put this thing....if EBM expires u can use it to wash ur face or feet lor....wun b wasted 1...

jaundice: the nurses told me coz mi n my girl's blood grp is diff so this might b the main reason y her lvl is high....if not then can b coz of BF-ing then lastly they'll suspect of liver function....this is hw they runs dwn the factors....not to worry, juz rem to go for regular checks to make sure the lvl's not going up too high

sillyhp: i'm having a maid n my godmum's looking after my boi n NB when i goes back to work....

keer13: What i intend to do is to freeze my extras now, then when i decide to stop breastfeeding.. i can still continue for sometime with the stores.

babycoco: No leh.. only HEB B 2nd dose.. i follow the "vaccinations" chart in my son's health booklet. Is he supposed to get the 6in1 jab??

insurance: my boy is a lucky boy. He has more insurance now than even I do! My hubby bought medical+hospital insurance for him, I bought an education savings policy for him and my dad (baby's granddad) bought another type of insurance for him which will guarantee him a sum of cash every year till however old my son is (means even when my dad is long gone, my son still will receive "ang bao" from him every year...). So he is a very lucky boy!

btw, the younger our kids r .. the cheaper to get insurance.. so starting early is a good thing.

Think bring bb go gp better. Find the 6 in 1 jab for bb.

So tired just manage force myself wake up to pump after 7hrs =X got to use 2 cointainers .. 1 cointainer full another like abit only. Wanna empty out breast so won't so fast pain but dilemma. Waste my cointainer.

Just finish feeding my baby. He only drank 60ml & dun wan liao. He wanna sleep. Hai... Do babies generally drink lesser at night when they sleep? I realise my baby does that.

Hubby was doing the first night feed at 11pm. He got frustrated again cause BB is not cooperating & BB open eyes big big. Were so afraid he dun wanna sleep. I took over and manage to get him to finish his milk & fall back to sleep again. While feeding my BB, hubby say he really sucks at raising kid, can't even feed BB well & he really dunno what to do when i get back to work. Seeing him look so depressed & upset also make my heart pain. But all I can do is encourage him to practice more when he at home and hopefully it will get better.

I think i am falling sick soon. Hopefully not.

Re: Injection

I brought my boy to GP to get his 6 in 1 vaccination when he is 6wks old. The clinic do accept CDA. The GP also well known to be good with kids. His clinic is located at sembawang mrt. His name is

Dr Liau.

Hai.. baby woke up again but not crying. Think he hungry cause he keep putting his hands in the mouth. Now CL feeding him.

suika: Nope. It's called sembawang 7-11 clinic. It's just next to 7 eleven. A small clinic.

My boy been cranky for 2 nights after his feed. Wonder if I din feed him enough. But my breasts r empty by him already. Suddenly wonder my supply issit can't match his demand.. Haiz...

babycoco & cherrymum - my gal also small eater... she's 6 weeks now. before CL leaves, she drinks 70ml per feed. I have gradually introduce more, now average 90 to 100 ml per feed. LAst two days wanted to add more but she started puking milk.... sigh... Never brought her to weigh, use a home bath scale, she should be around 4kg nia....

Vaccination - I am going to a GP for vaccination too. 6+1+rota+pneumo was quoted 1080..PD quoted 1380..

Gripe Water - any particular reason why you feed gripe water after bath huh?

Freezer - I also looking for an upright freezer but very ex hor... my fridge freezer is running out of room for my EBM!

EBM mummies - if your BB already forgot how to latch, how do you settle your engorgement when you are outside with BB?

I m now on 100% ebm n i need to wake up to pump in the middle of the night. I wonder how am i gg to cope after CL leaves where i have to pump as well as feed my boy during the night??

morning mummies,

anyone seeing pd at east shore hospital, mine is at paragon but find it too far hence would like to see a pd nearer my place. Mummies in the east, any recommendations for pd near our area? thanks

Mrs Long: how is your bb doing? did you change the FM brand and how is the outcome?

upright freezer: I am looking for one too. Thou freezing may destroy some nutrients in bm , it is still better than FM.

Eliss. Wow $1k+ is more double what I paid at my pd, and I thought it was expensive. My pd charges $426 for the 3 vaccines and $80 for consultation. Wonder what the difference is.

Sun tan,

Ask ur hubby to help feed ur boy EBM while u pump lor..no choice..

Haha, my hubby asked me if he wanted me to help feed the 3to4am slot...so that I can sleep through.. told him I prefer to latch my boy on as he is my pump! Too tiring to feed EBM then pump out.

Why r u going on 100% EBM?

how come my pd nvr mention anything abt a 6in1 jab? Their health book also dont say leh.

sun_tan: ya i agree wif e rest.. hubby needs to help.

but hor sometimes asking hubby to help can be quite angry too... as they seldom handles bb so sometimes when they take over bb, bb either cry non stop or bb dont want to slp or refuse to drink milk...

at times is ok ... at times is not... i wonder y too...

eliss: wow ..your freezer running out of space for EMB.. so good! My bb 6 weeks old n my supply drying out liao..boo

babycoco : my bb gal also drinks 80-100ml nia. everytime I make 120ml.. got to throw away the rest of the unfinished milk..like very wasted. I think my 6 weeks old bb gal also abt 4kg nia..

I also got prob bottle feeding my gal.She will kick n do her boxing very vigorously. Then she will gek until face very red. Burp her she also dun want n will cry. Continue feeding her she will end up choking on her milk or will throw out all her milk after a while. Been battling for 2 weeks liao! But when my mum bottle feed her no prob at all! She will be very good gal! I also dunno what's wrong with me.. but it sure spoil my day! Everytime after I fed her.. She gota to change, I gota change and sofa covers also gota change! She threw out milk like a fountain! Asked PD..he says it normal and ok so as long bb is peeing, pooing and growing.

atomic kitten, do you breastfeed? i think when i'm around, my bb only want to breastfeed, that's why she will protest if we bottle feed her. yet when i'm not around, she will guai guai drink from the bottle.

sweetkiss, taking care of your own health is important. Healthy mummy = healthy state of mind to carry on for a longer journey. BM is not everything in our motherhood journey, although having BM is a bonus. My friend asked me this question, if mummy is not eating healthily, will the BM still be nutritious? In this case, wouldn't FM have even more nutrients and vitamins? I really have no idea, but just food for thought. Jia you girl!

Hubby latching on > my hubby doesn't mind doing that for me coz i'm on exclusive pumping and no baby stimulation. i think he's more than happy if i ask him to do that... give him chance to hanky panky only... *rolls eyes*

Amt of feed > my 6 weeks old baby is now drinking 90ml in the day (average 3 hrs apart) and 80ml at night (average 2 to 3 hrs apart). i find it harder to feed him at night coz he's so sleepy and sometimes he would drink only 60ml and i have to continue slowly feeding him the remaining 20ml even though his eyes are closed. but i would love to increase the amount so that he can sleep for a longer period at night.

mummies: i wonder if any of ur bb here during the so called last night feed (ard midnight hrs) how much usually ur bb is feeding? Last night my bb gal drank 4oz milk in 30min or so, within next 1 hr, my bb asked for milk again (another 4oz) she finish both bottles. Scares me ! But after that feeding, next feeding she wakes me up at 5.30am

Xbeanniex,

Ya he is a very hands-on dad. When we only have #1, he would wake up early on Sunday mornings to cook lunch for boy. Midnight feeds then was done by him too. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

But now got 2. When he comes home, #1 sure glue to him to ask him do alot of activities with him. Hubby very tired lor so I told me I will only ask him to help with #2 when necessary.

babycoco: I seldom latch my gal le coz she get very frustrated n angry esp when she's hungry..think milk supply too low n she not getting enough. But when she get super cranky n wailed her lungs out.. i will offer her my breast to suckle for comfort. But usually i'll let her cry la.. only when bo pian then i let her suckle for comfort.

Xbeanniex,

Looks like ur gal is tanking up for night thus drink alot before Zzz.

My boy did that 2 nights back, drank till silly then slept from 1030pm to 430am. I was so happy then!

Jacyln,

There's 5-in-1, 6-in-1 and modified 6-in-1 jabs.

Difference is the number of jabs and visits. U must ask ur pd which one he is giving...

atomickitten: I did that ystd after 2-3 weeks nvr let my bb latch on... ystd evening she was quite impatience so let her latch on (still thinking she might not want anymore) but she latch on easily... hahaha... think she wants comfort... shall let her do that when she gets impatience...

Phy: i think once awhile bb do that is normal ?
