so mummies.. Is normal to have nipple soreness rite? Cos my nipples also super pain from feeding but i bear with it to give bb the best. nurse say if blood come out then dun feed but i'm starting to see some broken skin that looks really red.. I let bb latch on for 20 min each time, sometimes she still sucking but i unlatch her cos i scared my nipples get worse then cant feed.. If she nv cry or fuss then i stop le.. Is it ok to do that?

3rd week growth spurt is vair tiring! i wake up every other hour, zombiefied. i lie sideways with her suckling beside me, so tiring.

It is normal. My bb sucked on my right breast till the nipple bled...was so scared when i saw blood on his mouth...after that i have to stop latching him on the right breast to let the nipple heal...it was a very bad sore...so now i can only latch him on the left breast and express milk from the right breast...output also not much, gotta supplement with FM for certain feeds too...

Girls, I've decided to go for induced birth liao. Going tomorrow afternoon so if all goes well, bb should be out into this world on Saturday. Actually after check up plus VE just now, gynae told me if I want, can induce straightaway leh. After discussing with hubby, told her will give boy a chance to come out on his own.

Sweetkiss-- its normal.. i cont to let bb latch.. then apply bm on my nipple after feed.. now my nipples are seasoned and bb latches properly... so no more pain liaox

 
Vernie, Sweetkiss, I had sore nipples too but after using Palmer's cocoa butter nipple cream the problem was resolved. Good thing is, the cream can be applied before breastfeeding and need not be rinsed off.

haha actually I was put on ctg for 1 h this morning. Got regular contractions but when gynae did VE, found tt cervix still closed. I tot I was in labour leh... Ended up quite disappointed. Bb getting bigger so I'm worried. Cord still one round around his neck.



I must chant this in the delivery tomorrow

have been reading thru all the birth stories and advises given by mommies..wow..u all went thru alot and im happy for all mommies..aLL THe lil prince n princess are gorgeous n cute...



just a short update.Ytd i went for my checkup..currently 38 weeks 3days..still no contractions,bleeding etc...can feel tightening tats all.My bb ger head is totally engage.doc say its right dwn..im worried will i be induced..as i want to go thru normal delivery.My mother has been askin mi to walk more n drink young cocnut juice(does it works?)hahas...i keep having headache(as if there's no oxygen in my brain)and cant slp well...maybe i think too much.seeing so many mummies have popped im quite excited over mine too....(guess every1 too)



wish mommies speedy recovery,as for mommies which is waiting..JIAYOU!!!!

 
hmm for me instead of headache, i have this funny feeling, like too much blood pumping into my brain, and i can feel throbbing of heart beat in my head half way tru my sleep, then the face feel warm, as though i am put upside down. Anybody feel this?

r u all slpg on ur sides or on ur back? if you are feeling this way slpg on ur back then switch to side slp otherwise u may faint!

Serene, when your bb latches, it's completely painless? It still hurts when my bb latches but only for a few minutes, maybe I'm not doing it right.

haha! Thanks Jp, maybe it's because we sleep on our back hor? i can't really recall.. cuz i usually sleep on my side, then pain until i wake up cuz keep that position for too long, then i will slowly change position to sleep on my back, wah so shiok!



Will monitor and figure out when do i actually feel the throbbing feeling. YES i think if still don't change position we will faint, that's the feeling.

I use Lansinoh Lanolin cream and also BM to apply on the nipple after each feed. My left breast is OK and quite seasoned already with BB latching properly. So, only BM to moisturize the left one is enough.



The sore on the right breast is super bad (think I use the cream a little too late and the first few days got not enough BM to squeeze out to apply on it). Till now not completely heal...*sigh*...

 
haha...i tot low blood pressure or wat...scare me...sometimes get dizzy too...keep telling my hubby dat i gt no oxygen in the brain...

slpg on ur back creats a pressure on ur spine and taking u all for a spin in ur head. u can faint from slpg on ur back for too long so just b careful

my nipple havent bleed yet.. but baby also don't really suckle much. Think if he was to do it continuously for 15 mins .. it will bleed with the kind of pain im feeling.

 
Busy day for me...



Morning went to PD for newborn checkup. BB Keila is now 2.7kg, hurray... 300g increase in 4 days... PD says her current feeding a bit too little, suggest me give more BM to BB...



Still have mild jaundice, PD suggests to sun bath her these few days and follow up next Tues...



Other than that, the heat rash should go away easily if she's not wrapped up too much... told my CL about it...

vernie -- my bb dun like the cream.. she latch in.. then give that "eeee" face.. then blink blink at me.. hahahaha.. thats why i switch to applying bm instead



babycoco -- at first few latches, it was piercing pain.. i will curl up with the pain... now, its no longer pain liao.. unless bb pull my nipple la.. practise makes perfect.. dun worry.. give urself and bb a bit more time... dun latch when bb mouth is completely open.. latch when its openING.. bring ur bb head towards ur breast, u dun go towards bb.. if latch is not right, use ur little finger to break the latch and try again..

 
Serene: yaaa it's piercing pain for me when baby latches. Especially the left one! But I just let bb suckle for 20 mins each side... Tahan the pain lor [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]



One question, how do you all know if baby is getting anything out of you? Baby suck 20 mins each time but I have no idea if there's anything at all leh. Now my nipples feel so sore after his feed

 
Yohoo, just came back home. Went jalan jalan with hubby at vivo after check up. Spent some time together b4 restarting the baby biz again [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] walked too much, now backache.

Bfing,

it shouldn't be painful if latch is right. If it is still painful, gotta look for lactation consultant to check reason... It is a long but rewarding journey. My #1 whom I bfed for a year hardly falls sick, eats well, grows well and is a happy kid [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] hope I can provide tt dedication to number 2 too.



Co sleeping

sun tan, like u, I'm not for the idea... It took me alot of pain and frustration to sleep train my #1. Now he sleeps well, there's a routine set up for him. He is now in the midst of being trained to sleep in his own bedroom. Easier to do that if no co sleeping right from the start. actually bb will fall asleep feeling satisfied after feeds.. try to look at the throat for swallowing.. or when u carry bb, u can feel something going down to the stomach..



when my bb dun get enuff, she will not sleep.. she will blink blink at me.. haha.. but once shes got what she needs, she will fall asleep while latching.



because bfing, we wont know how much a bb is getting, the next best way is to monitor the diapers..



i remember when i was in the hospital.. i kept asking nurses when bb poo and when bb pee and how many diapers they changed etc..



if bb dont get enuff, she also wont sleep too long..



dun worry, try to catch the little little things and u will know her cues liao.. there no harm to latch bb longer if she still wants.. but dun force feed.. if she dun want, then let it be.. try again the next feed.

RE: Sleeping position



Since entering 3rd trimester, i can only sleep on my left side, lying abt 45 degrees with a bolster on my back.



Lie flat on my back, cannot breathe. Even trying to get to bed & lie down on my back 1st before turning to my left, also leave me breathless. Aiyo.



Am wondering when it comes to labour time, hv energy to push meh? when sleeping already feel breathless, hehee.

Regarding bf I bf my girl for 30 min she sleep for an hour waking up crying again and I will give her formula... so hard to know she had enough anot.... normally I pump out and feed her but if I latch her on she can only last an hour and hungry again...

 
Dear Mummies ,

Im new to this thread.. My 1 week old baby is having bad cough with phlegm but im on total breastfeeding. Is this common?

I latched my boy on plus pumped out to monitor his consumption. After abt 2 weeks of feed on demand, I started to fix a schedule. Started to latch him on abt 2 to 2.5 hourly, then a dream feed (EBM) at ard 12am.. then slowly I brought forward the dream feed and lengthened the duration between feeds. I recorded down in a notebook too.



When he was 2.5months old, he totally dropped the wee hours (2 to 3am) feed and the 12mn feed.



Became quite a stablised feeding on schedule. B4 I went back to work (took NPL so I went bk to work when he was 6 months old), he was feeding like every 4 hourly.



There's quite a bit of trial n error. Depends on mummies who are for schedule feeding or feed on demand [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Ya, easier to pump out and then monitor bb's consumption. It's ok to do that.



Babies tend to fall asleep while suckling from mummies' breast. What u can do is to tickle the chin if you realise BB not suckling or the suckling movements are very gentle... that would be suckling for comfort already.



Actually after a while, you'll get to see a pattern and be able to distinguish comfort suckling and feeding

Ya, Dr Chua... She is going on leave on 12 July, next Monday... so after I discussed with hubby, decided to induce... don't feel comfortable being delivered by another gynae...though the other one delivered Dr Chua's 5 kids!



My appointment is in the afternoon. Think she doesn't want me to get admitted too early... She told me to admit myself after 1130pm to save 1 day hospital charges [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]



Actually I was worried abt being induced and ended up having to go for C-sect... She reassured me by saying ,"Don't worry, I won't let you go to that. Furthermore, you had one natural delivery. So shouldn't have any problem.

Jo_Lyn -- thats what happened to my girl.. dun worry.. it shud last for a day or two before everything goes back to norm.. jus feed on demand. if he wants to latch, jus let him latch and get what he wants. watch out for his cues. sometimes, at this point, bb gets grouchy and fussy and needs the body contact, jus give it to him.. this is what i read after a night of torture ytd.. haha..

 
DinoMummy -- its alright, continue to bf bb and make sure you visit a PD for proper consultation. bf is good for bb, dont need to stop bfing..

 
baby_yen -- bb tend to fall asleep while feeding.. try to wake bb up again.. for me.. i change positions or sides, tickle her and talk to her.. try to let bb latch for at least 15 mins so that the milk she take in is full package. im jus worried that she might be just taking ur foremilk, hence she is not full..



at some feeds, my girl can only tahan for 1 breast.. so i just let her latch for 20 mins then let her sleep. but if shes awake (can tell from the way she suckles).. i will let her latch for 15mins or more then change sides..



but say if she still cannot reach 15mins, i will wake her up an hour later to feed her..



make sure bb have 6 or more wet diapers everyday and TBF shud have yellow custard poo.. yellow custard means bb is taking the complete milk (fore and hind).. a bit greenish means bb is only taking the fore milk so you need to latch longer..

 
Hi all... been so busy that I ve no time to come into the forum for past few days!



Serene: can check with you if your bb getting enough from 20 mins of latching? My bb like alwaz not enough.. I latch her for as long as she wants.. usually from 20 min to 35 or 45 mins.. however she doesnt suck throughout coz she will rest a while or fall asleep. Thereafter, she will still be hungry and I got to supplement with 60-80ml of formula! anyone got the same prob? And my milk supply like on the decrease.. couldnt meet my bb's demand leh! my doc ask me to get fenugeek.. but I didnt.



Also can i check if anyone knows after how many weeks then can do massage/wrap for those who went thru C-section.My gynea insisted that I wait for a month coz I bleed a lot and my uterus didnt contract much. But the massage lady I contacted told me its okie to start 2 weeks later and she didnt allow me to change my massage to one month later. She wants to come for my massage next week.. and i'm a bit apprehensive. My hubby feels I shouldnt go ahead coz it will be abt 2.5 weeks after my C-section n my gynea already specifically reminded me to have massage only after one month. Should I go ahead with the massage eh?

 
oh... can check how much milk do you get when u pump? Usually after pumping.. my nipples feel very sore leh. And how often should we pump? I tried pumping only once a day.. and I can barely get 60ml of milk. So I'm thinking no point for me to pump more often since there's not enough milk leh. Initially, I was getting like 60ml + 80ml = 140ml of milk during pump. But now supply dropped drastically leh.. does that mean I got to give up BF soon since milk supply on the decline le? AK,

Supply = demand. So i suggest you to pump as often as possible. In the beginning maybe there might be little BM, but after some consistent pumping, BM should increase (ie more you pump, the more milk there should be). Dont give up ya and continue trying.
