(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

mummies, is it safe to drink red dates with longan while pregnant? met my ex yoga instr who is taking TCM course. she said i'm very "cold". asked me to take red dates with longan to "warm" up my body. but i always thought red dates with longan is taken after delivery?

fazzy: i never know we must wash bb clothes twice?! baby clothes are firstly, not as "dirty" except soiled napkins la...secondly, the materials used are usually cotton or some soft materials which will "tear" or "spoil" easily after too much washing...SO, no such thing as to wash their clothes twice...but handwash will be more appropriate la..if possible...cos of its "not so dirty" issue and "soft materials make"...

hi Fazzy, i had a episiotomy for my #1. The actual procedure din hurt at all...i din even know until my gynae gave me an antiseptic wash to clean the wound.

Personally, i didn't not feel any pain when during the healing period but i did feel pyschological pain...i din really dare to move my bowels for a week! and i took a laxative before finally gg to the toilet cos i was so scared...

As for intercouse, i resumed abt 4 months after giving birth. Yes, there was a bit of pain but i think it was more due to dryness than anything. So we used a lubricant. Subsequent sessions were ok after that.

sorry to bring up a rather gross topic....

but any of you mummies start to experience more frequent bowel movts or looser stools? i notice that i now have the urge to go 2 to 3 times a day but its not diarrhea...

Any of u gg thru the same?

Heng, different ppl feels differently at different situations.. so its hard to advise. For example, even though you had bad experience for the first epidural, it might be a different person administering for you etc so your feeling might be different 2nd time. We can only tell you our past experiences.

For me, i did a thyroid op when I was 20 yrs old, i was under GA. Woke up and immediately vomit. Then I continued to vomit throughout the whole night until nx day then ok. Whenever I vomit, its only yellow bile cos not allowed to eat until vomiting/nausea stops. However this is just my reaction to GA.. it might be different for you

Rmummy: i have never had constipation throughout my whole pregnancy. In fact my stools always quite loose one! Donno why also leh.

heng: depends on individual mummies la.. mt GF is lazy ... hahahaha ... as is her 2nd BB ma... her 1st BB my GF BF till she is preggy with the 2nd BB (3mths preggy) then she stop BF her 1st BB (already 3yrs old)...

oh ... of cos if can go for natural then natural lor... hahaha... if depends on what Dr's suggestion n advise. Dont want to risk myself n bb's life... can be dangerous if labour for too long plus if water bag burst...

Jaclyn, it's not the administering that i'm afraid of..in fact i like the anesthetist who did for me...thinking of engaging her again if i were to do epidural again... but its the side effects of epidural that i'm most scared of....headache!!!!

my hubby recently did tonsil surgery..went thru GA and was giddy the whole day and had prob urinating... but when i did the epidural i had no such prob...everything else was fine except the bad HEADACHE!

Heng: I was reading some mummies doing their second round of washing. I think they meant second round, but new batch of baby's clothings. I haven't done mine! Will only do next week. Nowadays it keeps on raining also and the sunshine doesn't come into my place.

Rmummy: Thank you for sharing. I also read now we can prepare by using our fingers to stretch our posterior vagina walls, but I dunno how to do it. Maybe will ask my gynae this Monday. I also think the psychological pain will be there for me.

hi mommies, just got back from my check up.

now wk33, i've put on 300g over the last 2 wks, blood glucose also ok. but my baby is now 2.8kg!! i was stunned when gynae told me that - all her measurements indicate baby is at wk37! baby's head is very low now, still lots of water. so gynae said not to exercise too much now, in case it brings on early labour - anyway, i dun really exercise. gynae is predicting that baby will be 3.8-4kg at birth. she also did a VE to check whether there's any dilation. phew! not dilated yet.

all my fault la, for not being strict enough with my diabetic diet. just hoping that baby will not put on too much weight from now on - i still want a natural delivery. anyway, gynae will advise which method is best at wk37 [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

ICA: think ur gynea is offering u the c-section le right ?

my GF's BB is 3.42kg at birth ... she was in labour since 6am till 10pm then roll in for c-section. 1045pm both out safe n sound aslp.

beannie,

no, gynae not saying c-section yet. but i have a feeling most likely. i asked her before if i have to be induced, she said no, see how baby developes. if too big, maybe have to do c-section. so now hoping and praying that baby's weight will normalise by wk37, or just slightly above average lor. i've been praying for no episiotomy, easy and fast labour - maybe God is answering my prayer via c-section? hahaha!

so your GF went for natural 1st, then later did c-section? wow! 16 hrs labour very long woh...

ica: wah 2.8kg is like fullterm liao! Hope dont put on much more weight else hard for you to push out. My baby only 1.8kg at 33weeks leh. I must be doing something wrong, cos im gaining weight and the baby not much. =|

ica: Her Dr asked her to induced or c-section, but she believe she can n risk lor... hahaha

her 1st BB she suffered for 12hrs labour then vaccum out de ... then 2nd one i tell her dont risk herself n bb's life, be gd just opt for c-section ... but she still wan to try... so when she saw me 1st thing she laugh non stop bearing the pain ...

Jaclyn,

i also hope that all the weight from now on pile on me rather than baby. ya lor, like wk37 baby oredi. the water is pushing baby down but i still feel a lot of movements - so she's using her legs to kick me? or her butt?

you're doing all right. better to have avg weight than big baby

ica -- wow... did gynae say ur delivery will be brought forward and ask u to stand by?

Sito -- u can leave ur number with the nurses and ask dr to call u back de... i tried that a few times... or.. u might wanna drop by later?

beannie,

ya man! better not risk baby's life. skali head too big and got stuck in birth canal...sigh. if really have to cut, then cut lor. just don't want a preterm baby. oh, gynae said baby's lungs are formed just that still "wet" ie. not strong enough to breathe on her own if she's out now

Serene,

ya lor. it was OMG when i heard the weight! no woh, gynae never asked me to standby. not dilated. but during the VE, she checked and said 3.8cm - dunno what it was about but she said good, and i forgot to ask. i kept thinking about baby's weight lor

ica -- hmm.. then u must be careful lor.. cause dilation can happen anytime anywhere at individual speed.. if u feel uncomfy or wat, must go see gynae asap k

Ica: I think our BB will be abt the same. My gynae say if BB reached full term and about 4kg, he say don't bother to try natural.. straight go for C-sec.

Serene

thanks. so far still ok, still comfy. no menstrual-like cramps

Ann

ya, looks like c-section is inevitable for us

Heng

i will let gynae decide. but i think with epidural, faster recovery right? i mean you won't feel as groggy as under GA

babycoco

can drink the red date + longan drink during pregnancy. red date's good for blood. if it's not too heaty for you, dun remove the seeds from the red dates - it's better that way

Hi Vernie - Thanks for sharing... Will check out the Ameda pump in the Robinson sales again.. But, me no member, don't know can buy anot.. Haha..

Hi Baby Yen - Allison might only have drags for the PS. Like a gown to cover yourself up with a long drag.. It might be good if you can bring a pair of jeans or some tube top with black slacks for more causal shots.. But, if u r going for nude shots, then maybe, yes, you can go without the clothes.. :p

Hi Aisha, for BB detergent - I tried Tollyjoy & Kodomo.. I prefer Kodomo as the fragances seems nicer.. Hee.. But it's more expensive.. Hee... For yaolan, I agree with your hubby that you might spolit your kid if you decided to use that for sleeping cos I heard of horror stories that BB cannot get to sleep w/o yao lan. So, when you are outside, you need to shake & rock baby frantically to get BB to sleep.. Hee, I don't think I have the stamina so I won't be using that.. Then, for play pen, I think it can be used as a BB sleeping bed or just a play area to temporary leave BB in play pen & we can do our things.. Of course, we cannot leave BB there so too long ya.. As I have a baby cot, I will give play pen a miss.. I think we just need 1 sleeping bed.. But, I will get a play yard for BB to play in instead of play pen as I heard good reviews about it.. We can buy the 6 pieces play yard & BB & mommy can both go in together to play & sleep together...

Lastly, for play gym, I intend to wait for BB shower to see if friends will give us as gifts but I think min, I will like to have 2 types of gym so that BB will not be bored & can stimulate BB.. I think it's a item that we should buy if we intend to interact & stimulate babies.. It's never too early to stimulate babies as early stimulation will prepare babies early for other things in life...

I have prepare soft books, rattles, teether, toys like stacker & shape sorter, baby bouncer, moses basket for BB.. FYI.. :p

hi mommies,

so envy most of you have a good appetite! don't know why but i couldn't eat much nowadays especially when i reached my 3rd tri...

i still feel hungry but just kind of sick of food..though i still eat a little cos i know bb needs the nutrition.

i havent gain any weight for the last 4 weeks, even though bb has been gaining weight..but he's on the smaller side. at 32 weeks, he's around 1.85kg...think he is feeding on my "reserves" in the body...

anyone knows if i can eat anything to boost my appetite?

and yah, talking about stools, i also have more frequent urge to "empty" myself now but yesterday nite and this morn, i think it's actually LS for me lah...cos it's watery!

keer13: You're welcome! Non-Robinson member also can buy at a higher price but still discounted from the original price. Don't have the non-member price with me now. Brochure is at home.

Hi Vernie - Co-incidentally, my colleague just pass me the Robinson preview brochures.. Haha.. Instead of $350, is $399 for non members.. :p Will check out this weekend..

For the cot bumpers - I just use machine wash.. Think I will start to use only when BB start to roll & turn cos in case, they hit their head against the sides.. So, maybe about 3 months.. For pillows & bloster, I don't intend to use till 1 year old as I read that infants do not need it at all.. And, sometimes, these gadgets will cause suffocation.. So, have to be careful..

Hi Ann - Wow.. You really dote on your darlings to put them on the pram.. For me, I ask my doggies to stay away from all my BB items.. Haha.. Cos I scare her fur will fly to the stuff & ask allergy & suffocation to babies.. What breed is your dog? Is it furry? If yes, need to vacuumn & be careful ya..

Look at the way u dote ur darlings, make me feel a bit guilty.. Recently, really no enegry to play & coax my darling doggie too.. Cannot imagine what's life after BB is here...

keer13: Oh good, now u know the price of the Ameda bundle. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Yeah, I was also thinking bb don't need the cot bumper & pillows yet. Was thinking last night whether to wash them now, or wash them later.

keer: i am doggie owner too... 1 maltese 1 long coat chh x pom.

my hubby worries but assures that keep doggie clean at all times shouldnt be a problem.

my hubby still thinking of training our 2 doggies to be bb's alarm... bb wake up come tell us... hahaha... think this trick my chh x pom will be able to do it... hahahaha ...

i oso no energy to play with them... think they know too, so they will come to me let me hug n stroke them instead of asking me to play catching or fetch with them... else give them a lamb chew to kill time ...

xbeanniex, keer, i think we all have the same worries about our furkids. worry when bb comes, we will neglect them. i have a maltese & shih tzu. maltese used to sleep on the bed, but for the last few months, she prefer to sleep on the floor. dunno why. made me sad but i think better if she gets used to it. when bb comes, she won't be able to sleep on the bed.

by the way, do you have any groomers to recommend. sent my shih tzu for grooming & she came back so terrified, dunno what the groomer did to her. want to find a new groomer.

babycoco: my maltese slp with me till now too but in the middle of the night when she is still in daze put her dwn ... usually she will find my HB to bring her back up but recently she dont do that anymore she just slp in her bed full of toys... hahaha... maybe she knows that's eventually her routine to slp in the bed n not mummy n daddy bed.

Groomer ah.. where u stay? u can call this one

Dogs Avenue

Pearl: 92252087

U let her know is Diana - Shinna/Cheeky owner.

She n her HB manage the business... my gal has got this joint problem that need special care when trimming nails n paws fur etc... previous groomer say "okok will take note" but what i saw was otherwise. (aft grooming here usually fall aslp - deep slp somemore)

Pearl & her HB manage my gal very well & she is so happy to go back there again... hahaha (aft grooming here, still active n wants to play... )

thanks xbeanniex, will contact pearl. my shih tzu usually very brave, but i noticed now when we take her out in the car, she shakes, cos the last time we took her out in the car, it was to go to the groomer. so heart pain.

no, she was always ok. usually we just take her to vivo, or to the groomer's, vet. but after that last trip to the groomer, when we take her out, she will shiver, shake like so scared.

when my maid brush the maltese hair, my shih tzu will try to hide behind her bed. like so traumatized. really dunno what happened at the groomer.

Babycoco: could be the groomer side scares her...

Pearl that side u can tell her actually what u prefer as long as reasonable n logical... as i have met owners so F Up abt their dog being placed in cage or have to be groom first, when they are just walk in or worst late for their appointment.

If after grooming u prefer ur dog to be placed on the chair also can but as owner u got to bear the consequences as putting dog on chair or table might actually let ur dog be open to other dogs' disturbance n thus gets injuried or scared or maybe jump off table when excited.

Thou' place in cage, u can bring ur own towel to give pearl n ask her to put in the cage for ur furkid but again... if ur furkid pee/poo on the towel n dirty himself or herself... then cant help it... but pearl n her HB very alert of pee/poo... hahahaha... they will clear away as fast as they can ...

i really have great impression of pearl n her HB... after changing so many groomers over 10 yrs having my eldest boy...

hi all MTB,

Currently im in dilemma whether to hire confinement lady or ask my mum to come over during my confinement.

I not really like stranger to stay at my house and ask my mum will help to save cost.

But another concern is my mum has no experience on confinement wor..

Anyone has experience for confinement with own mum?

Pls kindly advise on this..thanks..

Ica: Ya lo... scared of C-sec but if really too big then no choice lo.

Heng: Most likely I would choose epidural though my mum ask me to choose GA cos she say less frightening and won't have much side effect after that. But I wan to witness BB's birth with hubby. It would be so special.

Keer13: They just bath yesterday and I actually clip their fur very short so that less fur will drop and more cooling too. I have 1 X-silky terrier and 1 westie. Both suppose to be long coat.. kanna clip short short now by me. Haha!!

I dun mind them touching BB's stuff ba. But will try to minimise their contact with BB stuff if possible.

I will still play with them when I can. For example: I love to take my westie and pretend it is BB and try out all the different types of methods of carrying BB on her. Cause she is so lazy and her neck alway roll here & there like a BB. Good for practicing. Haha!!

For my X-silky terrier, she very manja one.. so she will stand on hind legs and hug me like a toddler like that. So I pretend she is hugging BB lo from outside. Then will pretend to talk to BB on her behalf. Hehe!!

Groomer: I send them to Ginny Day Care Centre at Thomson cos I can watch them through webcam and they have a cageless system. So I am quite happy with it.

Carol: My mum is doing for me, she doesnt have any experience too. But u can help by google online for recipes to prepare during confinement. And do hire those Malay Massage Lady like - Mdm Ida, she can give lots of advise to you too, like can see n ask how she massage bb and how to shower bb etc.

Thou hospital still teaches, having an experience lady to guide u for a week while she pop by to massage for u...

U try this site : www.babycenter.com.sg

they have a section for confinement

hi Carol, this is my personal experience with the CL vs mum vs MIL for my #1.

As first, my mum said she will do confinement for me. So, i was more than happy to do so since i wld save $$ that way. But in the end, she only knows how to cook confinement food and bathe baby. I had to take care of the baby myself 24/7. And i cldnt cope with the tiredness and exhaustion....

So, my MIL 'came to the rescue" and she said she wld stay with me and help me look after bb while my mum takes care of my food...but it turned out that in reality, i found it v pai seh to just pass the baby over to my MIL when i was tired...

For example, after BF, i was so tired that i just want to go to sleep but i felt bad passing baby to my MIL and ask her to burp and change her...i tried to be thick skinned once or twice but i found it hard to do it all the time. Also, i found some of her methods questionable but its hard to raise these issues...

Finally, i cldnt' stand it anymore...hubby and i bite the bullet, forked out $$$ for a CL and it was then that i managed to get some rest...

Paying for a CL is good is that sense that you dun feel any guilt abt asking her to take care of the baby whenever u feel like it and you can have the final say over how u want the baby to be cared for.

And i think it is really impt to get enough rest during the initial weeks cos u literally dun get any more sleep from the moment ur labour starts...then after u give birth, nurses will either wake u up every 2-3 hours to BF baby or check pulse etc,...then when u get home, its BF every 3 hours....

ann, 1 of my gf had c-sect with epi for her 1st baby, c-sect with ga for 2nd. and she told me that for her, c-sect with epi was so much better cos her hubby was with her the whole time, and they were able to see their baby right away. plus she said she felt more groggy, tired after the ga. so it's something to think about?

groomer - oh, i like the idea of watching them groom my dog thru webcam. at least can see what they're doing.

Rmummy: indeed is true... that's why i am sucking thumb when bb arrives. even now my ILs side just last night only, where got parents dump their 4mths old bb at home to grandpa to take care when grandpa had just had heart ops 2 mths back.

thou i understand that their 1st bb - 3yrs old - is in hospital due to high fever/low oxygen, but sure enough got to have someone to tend to the 4mths old... end up me n HB got to so irritated by crying non-stop, went over to play n coax bb to slp within 30 min... haiz...

i dont think i allow myself to do that to my kiddo

Ann,

i'm not afraid of being cut up, just that the recovery is longer than natural that i don't like lor

Carol,

my mom is doing confinement with me, too and she has zero experience. her knowledge/info is from her friends who are already grandmothers and from watching my aunties' CLs. anyway, i'll be catering confinement food - less taxing on my mom. my mom's only worry is bathing a newborn. trust in your mom, unless she has already told you that she's not keen

Carol,

i'm not hiring any CL. My mom and grandmom (take turns) are cooking the confinement food for me. My hubby will have to fetch the food from them everyday cos they don't stay with me.

Even though I stay with my MIL, but my MIL won't be helping me with anything. In fact she already said earlier that she has problems with her back so ask me to faster find a maid to help with household chores. Actually, I prefer that my MIL don't want to help with anything... i rather that as opposed to her telling me cannot do this cannot do that. I will go crazy lor.

My domestic helper coming early nx week.. I will be sending her to my mom's house regularly to learn some cooking and she will be helping me with cooking of red date tea every night in a slow cooker. it also helps that she has experience with newborn kids.. (you can request for that when you hire her).

All in all, the domestic helper also costs me about 2k+ upfront payment, but that covers 6 months of her pay... the CL will be just 1 month.

Because I don't intend to follow confinement rules strictly.. it shud be ok lah. I only will try to eat right. My hubby will also be around the entire mth to help.

btw, EVERY single new parent I met have been telling me to brace myself for sleepless nights for first few months. So mommies, pls try to rest more now in preparation for that... it will be tough but we must tahan together!

The first few months of your baby's life is very trying and difficult for us mommies. We also get very emotional easily. But when they reach 5-6 months, they get alot cuter and we get alot happier as we're more used to the lifestyle already. Its all worth it!!

ica, whr did u catered ur confinement food from? i still dnt knw who's caring for me during confinement... my mum still working, my mil's plc hv 3 men whch include my fil n 2 bil, their plc is a mess but my hb said if we move thr we get to stay at d master bedrm.. but pity them bcoz of me everyone hv to change their rm..

so tot of ordering confinement food n juz take care of baby myself... so sian.. n one thing i'm not really close to my mil..
