jul
not sure..maybe i ate something bad :/ or maybe its the half boiled eggs i had for breakfast. but i thought i overboiled them, more like 3/4 boiled eggs. :p

Hi Mummies!!!!!
happy.gif
Long time no write (guilty) Hope that everyone here is doing well...

My son still cannot flip leh...everytime he try...he cannot do it then he cry...dun noe how to help him also
sad.gif
afraid he might give up totally...

Also, just want to complain lah...my in-laws keep nagging at me for not letting my son sleep in yao-lan..they say this way baby sleep better...but i am afraid he might get used to it. But my nanny who takes care of him during the day lets him sleep in yao-lan lor...i so angry!!! Dun noe how to convince them so they will stop saying that yao-lan is good for all baby.

in 5 days my gal will be 4 mths old!! but she still can't lift off her chest from tummytime. *sigh* but these days she can really "turn" in her cot, not flip over from back to front turn, but turn like 180 degrees. she like to lift her legs nowadays up 90 degrees and can somehow stay in that position for a while and stare at her feet and legs. i think she must be figuring out what they're for. lol!

mummies, do u let your babies sleep covering with blanket at nights? i used to cover blanket. but nowadays she is kicking up her legs so much, i'm worried... maybe i shd do away with the blankets...even though i do use her pillow and bloster to hold the blanket down.

Jul,
It's written by a few authors, can't remember their names.

Kiki,
1) so for starters, which types of puree shd we try to make? would fruits puree be a good start? if yes, what types of fruits to start with?
Fruit and veg puree - sweet potato, potato, avocado, apple, pear, green pea, etc. You have the complete answer in that book. I have also noted down some in my blog for my #1 - http://babyhaore.blogspot.com/2008/08/vegetable-and-fruit-puree.html. Before puree, I would give cereal as the first food.

2) how to tell if puree has gone bad after its frozen? can freeze for how long ah?
> Same as how your tell when your (adult) food turns bad, ie, it would taste sour and awful. Try to consume within 1 month.

3) so can we start puree at 4 mths or better to start at 6 mths? and how long does baby eat puree for before they can eat porridge?
> The books and the PDs say between 4-6 months. Personally, I think if my baby is growing well with BM/FM, I would definitely starts at 6 months, cos by then their digestive system is much more developed, so won't be to taxing for them to take solid food. You can start porridge anytime, personal choice, really

4) when feeding puree, we shd reduce the milk feed right? so do we replace each milk feed with 1 puree feed? so for a start, just how many times puree a day?
for the first month or so, it's more of letting them to test and to learn how to eat/swallow solid food, and they can only take a very small portion. So can't really replace a milk feed. As soon as they can take in more, which can last for 2-3 hours before getting hungry again, then yes, can replace with 1 milk feed. Not neccessary to reduce the amount of milk if your baby can take, you gonna observe your baby

oh..u mentioned before u bought small containers from daiso for puree storage. those can store how many ml of puree? smally smally ones?
I don't measure how much puree to put in. You will know how much is enough for 1 feed for your baby once you started

And just to kay-poh on the question your asked Jul - yes, stomach flu is very contangious, as it's caused by (nasty) virus infection.

kam
thanks for the prompt answers on puree!!
happy.gif
its helpful. yep yep, i would definately get a bk on how to puree baby food. already told rach i'm keen in that book she mentioned. will keep a lookout when i go to the bookstores for the one u recommended too. actually i think local authors might be better. hmmm....

oh yes, i deleted the question on stomach flu being contagious. realised i asked a silly question. hee... but i don't think i had a case of stomach flu lah..if not wouldn't get well so soon without medication. probably just a bad case on indigestion!

KiKi

You can start with foods that are thin and runny and are foods that are the lowest on the allergy scale. Example are oatmeal, barley for cereal.. For fruits, you can try apples, pears, bananas & my favorite avocado. Veggie will be sweet potatoes, peas etc.

Kam

I borrowed tt book from library b4 & copied down some of the recipe

Ok.. I am out for another CC viewing.. it's so tiring to try finding a decent CC *sigh*

kiki,
No problem. I have more time when I am at work. You won't see me here if I am not working :) Actually it's very easy making puree. You will get the hang of it once you start. There is really no recipe per se (for simple puree) - steam (for veg), remove skin (if any), cut into smaller cubes, blend, then serve. Same for all veg/fruit/meat puree. But it's good to read more to know which food is highly allegic hence to avoid, the different nutritional values for dif veg/fruit, what to take note (eg, must de-skin carrot for baby consumption), etc.

Jen,
Oh yes, my fav is avocado too! My boy used to love avocado puree, but now he doens't want to drink avacado juice (with milk).

Good luck with your cc hunting!

jul> yes my bb flips in her cot. she hasn't learn how to flip back to her back yet though!

joey> it is normal to develop a slight fever after vaccination. my pd says it shows that the bb has reacted to the vaccine, which is good. of cos you'll have to monitor your bb very closely at this time.

kiki> don't worry about your bb not able to flip yet! once they learn how to flip it'll be never-ending! haha..anyway you mentioned that your bb keeps turning right? i think she is going to flip very soon! cos my bb also started turning 90degrees..then within a few days she flipped already.

mummies, got another question regarding pillows. does your bb sleep on pillow? at first i only folded a pieve of nappy cloth for my bb to sleep on. after 1 month i gave her the donut pillow. but now it seems that the donut pillow is getting smaller for her head! and the normal bb pillow is still too high.
is it bad if bb doesn't sleep on pillow?

jen
thanks for the tips too! but how to puree peas? steam then grind in blender? frozen peas or fresh ones?

kam
yes i guess we all will get the hang of it once we start, it becomes like 2nd nature.
happy.gif
can't wait to try pureeing for my gal. we can puree meat?? wow, didn't know that!

deebee
they sell those really small pillows in the shops i think. maybe u can try kiddy palace etc. my gal sleeps on pillow during daytime. she got 1 small pillow just nice for her now. i got another one from the aussino set, which is too big and seems very high for her neck, so i just keep it first. night time, my gal sleeps flat no pillow on her head at all. is it bad?? hmm... i don't know leh. but she seems ok not to have pillow at night.

pam

Anyone still interested??

Gonna confirm soon.. need 10..

already have 4...

expected to reach in 10-14 days.

cookiez,
i have an earlier edition of the book which kam is refering to. i'm not into pureeing, cos i'll usually just scrap fresh apple/avocado/banana when i want to feed bb. whatever is left over, i'll finish it up. if it's to add veg/meat into porridge, i'll use a scraper from daiso. very cheap and extremely useful. oh, i'll give you the book cos i don't need it. pass it to you when we next meet okie?

flower4,
like berrypie said, different infant care centres charge differently. i think those that are near workplaces generally charge higher than those near housing estates. for mine, i pay $900 after subsidy.

princess,
congratz!! you settled your reno plans already? faster settle faster move in. it'll be great if you can move in by CNY cos get to spend new year in new house.

milkyway
my girl can turn to her side and if i just give her a little push, she will flip over. but then hor...she'd get stuck in that position with her arm stuck under her chest coz she can't really lift off her chest yet. *sigh* do u do tummytime? i think its because i barely do tummytime thats why her 'progess' is quite slow.

oh..your girl is 1 day younger then mine i think.
happy.gif
born on 12th is it?

cookiezz
yes yes nice weather!! hehe... wow heng my period not back yet and i almost forgot i'll be having it!! lol

kiki
yah i do tummy time for her but not all the time lah. i'm a lazy mummy too.. haha. But she can lift up her head ard her 3rd month or so. But nowadays when i change her diapers, she will turn to her side left and right, making it very diff to change her diapers. but other then that i dont see her turning to her side.. mayb i should try to flip her? haha

yes mine is 12th, 1 day b4 urs.

Need to ask if anyone here has pumped milk on the aeroplane before? Wondering if can pump at the seat or in the toilet. My flight is 14 hours!! But i intend to throw away the milk, how to store without a fridge.

--Michelle--
Thanks for the advise on how to delay the night feeds. Previous night, my girl slept through, i think it's because we on the air-con. hehe. aircon baby.

--Waiwai--
Hehe, wonder when would our babies sleep through ley, so we can optimise our rest! it's frustrating to wakeup at 4am when u sleep at 1am plus!

my baby stil cant flip but he will try to do sit up. he will lift up his head and leg and give his stomach a good workout. maybe he still didnt know that flipping to his side is easier.

My bb is 18 weeks liao oso cant flip. He can oni turn side way...

When i sleep with my bb during the nite, he will wake up at 2am & 4am to suckle (but i know he's not hungry). When my hb sleep with him these 2 days. He will sleep thru the night till 6.30am or 7am...haiz dont know why???

can i check with the mummies here, do you put ur baby in the carseat now? i have been carrying him everytime because he wun sit still..
sad.gif

milkyway,
i think your baby going to flip anytime now..mine also started with turning left and right and yah man is so hard to change diapers nowadays! Before i can put in on him, he is already on his tummy grr so i got to change him downwards..hahaha

--berrypie--

Your baby can smell your scent that you're next to him. You're the human pacifier ma.

--xmasc--

I put my baby in the carseat. Hb says safety is 1st priority. So even if my baby is crying in the carseat, we'll not take her out. Must let her get used to it from young. Most of the times, mine would cry along the car journey, coz she wants to move about. There was once, she was wailing in the car all the way from Bt Timah to Serangoon (home). I just had to pacify her but don't take her out from car seat. Haizz

--bernice
OO is there pull up diapers for 4 months?
as for the carseat, im aware too haiz..maybe i have to *force* him already but the babyseat is so warm. maybe that's why he does not want to sit in
sad.gif

--xmas--

Got pull up diapers M size from 5kg onwards. Huggies and Drypers have. Your boy should be above 6kg hor?

Haha, can turn on the aircon to more powerful so that they wldn't feel so warm sitting on the carseat at the back. You also can attach some toys on the carseat handle for him to play with during the car journey.

xmasc,
My baby girl seems to like to be placed in her car seat :) But my #1 doesn't like car seat. I don't think it's because that the car seat is hot, it's more to they cry so parents would take them out of the car seat. The reason I said this is because if I am driving alone with him, he would guai guai sit in the car seat. But if hubby is driving, sure he cried and wanted to be carried. For my #2, since I don't carry her since day 1, she now guai guai sit inside the car seat, and would even fall asleep on her own during long-ish journey :p Depending on how strict you want it to be, if you decided must let him sit in the car seat, then better send him the message now than later.

Kam
Jiat lat lah. I think i really start too late liao. This little fellow knows my weak spot..btw what baby seat you are using?

bernice,
yes definitely can express at your seat as long as you have a nursing cover. i always do that when i travel w/out baby. most of the passengers around you should be having their headsets on or are sleeping, so nobody will pay attention to your pumping noises (assuming yours isn't too loud/creaky).

bernice and xmasc,
my boy is totally opposite cos he loves to be in the car seat. before he turned 2 months, he used to be in the sling during car rides and would wail to no end. initially i though he hated car rides but after we introduced the car seat to him, he's so much happier! no toys in the car for him, but his brother provides "live entertainment" with his incessant chatter. only on rare occasions when he is extremely hungry/tired will he be fussy on the car seat. but when that happens, he'll be fussy when i carry him too.

milkyway
yes yes, diaper changing time for me also very difficult! my gal will swing her legs left right up down and sometimes do butt ups!

berrypie
u sleep with your bb on the same bed? maybe u're too close by, the scent lures the baby to wake up to look for you for comfort suck. your hb don't have same scent mah! :p thats why bb will sleep thru the nite. my guess only lah.

xmasc
i put my gal in the carseat since day 1 since discharge from hospital. i got those from infant up to 4 yrs old kind. i realised quite important to start early, if not later part the child might reject sitting in the carsit. also, when we go out, my girl sits alone (rear facing) behind, and i will sit infront with my hb. this is to train her, so that if i'm alone and driving, no one is also gonna be behind with her. so far so good... she is happy to sit in the carseat and does not fuss very much. she just look at her toys swinging in front of her then usually fall asleep.

bernice
i pump on aeroplane b4 hahaz. i kept the motor in the bag.. so not nosiy. and put a shawl to cover. and i pump on the seat. i bring up the milk bag. but my flight is abt 4+hrs only though. Maybe u can ask the flight stewardess. if i'm not wrong. they can help u keep the milk leh.

Re: Changing diapers on fidgety babies
I realise cot mobiles work to distract, then you must work quickly! Otherwise, what I do is scold/smack gently until they get the point.
biggrin.gif

So far I don't have any problems changing the boys, the biggest issue I had was when Josh was ard 9 mths old, and he kept undoing his own diaper tabs!

berrypie
I agree with the other moms, your scent tempts your baby to wake up and latch lah. I realise if I give him a bottle, it will never work, but my hubs can do it. Cos my hubs got no milk scent!
Kee only started to sleep thru the night when I shifted him out to share room with korkor, otherwise he would wake at least once a night just to suckle for fun!
