SID is sudden infant death.

As the name implies, SIDS is the sudden and unexplained death of an infant who is younger than 1 year old. It's a frightening prospect because it can strike without warning, usually in seemingly healthy babies. Most SIDS deaths are associated with sleep (hence the common reference to "crib death") and infants who die of SIDS show no signs of suffering.
 
i bot the mattress those with "HOLES" suppose it call baby safe mattress.. for only $50 buck at Boon lay shopping centre...

The first one i purchase at $20 coz i purchase the cot from Baby hypermart..

So not sure if there is differences in the brand... anyway my gal dun sleep in her cot nor stay long enuff in her playpen...
 
Sorry, anybody knows where is the biggest Aussino outlet that carries the most babies bedding? Dun wish to run around searching for it now...

Agreed totally on the opinions of getting new mattress for the hand-me down cots.. cos im going to get a new one for my hand-me down cot too =)

then as u continue to BF, the milk supply will come loh... u dun need pump if u are BF totally..coz u can just latch on BB whenever its time to feed..
u need the pump i think once ur supply has stablised..and u start to engorge...
then u store in bottles or bags if u have more than what ur bb need loh...

you will need to express only if ur baby is full and u still have remnants in the other breast... and u should have spare bottles or bags to stand by...
my coll has 70 bottles in the freezer and now she start to buy milk bags laioz...
she even bring to her mum's place for storage loh...
and since she has so much now...she just First In First Out... throw away older ones to fill in fresh expressed one now...

Freezer can last 3 months i think... fridge only can last 48 hours if i'm not wrong....

Dun worry...now u staying on ur own...it'll be better la..

can go shops to check out the cots types and design and pricing. And also chk online or call them if any further discount given. Can call Cheong Choon Store at Chinatown. Blk 34 Upper Cross Street #03-132. Tel: 65323855. It a very small shop but a lot of catalogues. Can call the lady "Winnie" to ask abt certain model and the price too. So u dun have to travel too many places. When i was there, a couple was buying whole set of cot, mattress etc. She threw in a few small freebies.. didnt overhear carefully la.
Aug taka fair ar.. dunno too late or nt.. the fair dates is early or mid or late aug.. then it take time to deliver to u too...

Any price under $50 definitely not the original BabySafe brand mattress. A lot of mattresses now just put some holes in the mattress, like copying Babysafe, but the material is still sorely lacking from the original. We "upgraded" the mattress to one with holes last time when we bought #1's cot from Kiddy Palace, and the mattress turned mouldy!! Granted, my boy never pee/puke on the mattress before, but sure got a bit of drooling, spit-up and sweat. That was when we bought the BabySafe for $100+ when my boy was ard 6 mths old. Mattress still in fantastic condition now, despite the many many many hours he has slept/jumped on it.

So for my #2, we're not getting anything else EXCEPT Babysafe. Can tell my boy has very good sleep on it too. And he doesn't wake up all covered in sweat even though the weather is crazy warm and his room got no aircon.

Thanks for the info on the discount @ Kiddy Palace! I will go there to get the mattress for my #2.

Re G6PD. Depending on your hubby. If your hubby is NOT a carrier, then your baby WON't be one. But, if your hubby IS a carrier, your baby has 50% of being a G6PD.

yes.. can eat when we're breastfeeding. But to be on the safe side in case the alcohol content has not evaporated, take aft u breastfeed ur baby like what other mummies mentioned.

The cot they bought during the Taka bb fair is the 4 in 1 Rocio by Bonbebe cot at $359. Original Price is $400+ or $600+...cant remember
If im not wrong, Kiddy Palace also selling the same cot at the same offer price. U can check it out if u want.

I go see look haha.. think my colleague mentioned she got a pack of maternity pads to give me also. Anyway, i may head down to Brunei say 21st? Then go back for my flight to KK on the 23rd. Still looking for hotel at KK. Then stay at KK for a night before heading back to SG on 24th.

Just came back from gynae. I am 24weeks now. Confessed to gynae i didn't take my multi-vits, he ask me go for scan see if baby ok. Everything fine hehe baby only 576g! Someone's at 800g in wk25? Mine seem really small XD

Just gotten 2 bags worth of mummy and baby's clothes from my HOD. She passed me the Avent manual pump and breast pads.. tried to assemble it. Quite simple hehe

Hehe maybe this weekend can get my friend's cot as well. So happy! Saved a sum again :D

Have yet to have those nasty leg cramps, except for sitting in a position for too long hehe

Sigh. i also get very upset whenever i heard of kids being 'tortured' in a way or another. It's really not good in terms of what that teacher was doing. To be a preschool teacher, the very basic cert is Certificate in Preshool teaching. But more and more youngsters graduate with at least a diploma in preschool. In the past, with just O levels, they can teach but not anymore. MOE and MCYS are quite strict with that.

No lah. You can talk to the teacher more to find out more. You can also observe how the teacher handles the children in the class. Some parents will prefer young teachers, some will prefer older teachers. In the past, i have faced really difficult parents. I was the form teacher and i have one chinese teacher for them in her 50s. I was early 20s. The parent complaint to HQ that why this class has a YOUNG teacher as form teacher, and an OLD teacher as chinese teacher. HQ don't even know what this parent wants. Then she finds me too lenient, chinese teacher too fierce. Sometimes it also depends on how the parent's thinking loh. For me, as long as the teacher and child can communicate well and the child enjoys school, i don't care the teacher's age. Everything also have pros and cons right. :) Don't worry so much. MCYS does make sure that every school will go according to their "RULE". Heee.

Hahahahahaa.... teaching is really a stressful thingy.. But however the salary is really a big difference as compared to preschool. At least in primary schools, they still have some form of rest during other lessons etc... preschool totally no rest except lunch time. Sometimes lunch time also cannot rest or eat properly leh.

Correct way should be boil water with herbs. Soaking don't know got same effect or not. Somehow i relate it to boiling herbal soup, its boil with the herb rather than soak it... :p

btw mummies.. juz to share my 2 cent worth on infantcare vs babysitter

was told by my colleague tat 2 main thing in considering when choosing for infantcare centres:
1) location: shld be near to parent in case of emergency
2) low teacher to child ratio: if u're sending ur infant (i.e. 3-4 mths) to infantcare it is essential tat they receive alot of attention since they r so delicate at tis age.. MCYS rec is 1:5 however some centres charge higher coz of 1:2 or 1:3 ratio.. ideally 1:3 would be good

having said tat, parents shld oso pop by e centres for "spotcheck" prob during 1-3pm where e centres least expect parents to pop by.. during tis time it could be aft e feeding time so can see if e teachers r actively engaing e infnats (like toking to them while feeding, playing with them)

even if e centre boasts of a 1:3 low ratio, at feeding time etc, e teachers mayb understaffed and cannot attend to all infants adequately so parents muz note oso..

ultimately, if e centre is understaffed or even with 1:3 low ratio, teacher r not engaging e infants (i.e. leaving e kid to stare into space blankly when there is no feeding/ diaper changing activity gg on, i.e. not bz) then might as well place bb at babysitter's coz babysitter might nt b able to stimulate e bb but cfm is 100% 1-1 attention (of coz tis is again dependent on babysitter quality)

oso things to look out for r hygenie:
- do teachers wash their hands after changing each bb's diapers?
- r babies changed b4 feeding
- since all bb r using e same changing mat/pad/area, do e teachers sanitise e mat/pad/area after changing each baby?
- sleeping area: ideally, younger infants shld be napping in a seperate room from older infants

**disclaimer: these r juz my 2 c worth n wat i learnt today.. so dun quote me hor.. kekeke

but i been down to 1 centre today n really while they dun look bz, e teachers r nt really v enthu abt e kids..

oh ya, 1 more thing to add.. i tink for infants, curriculum is nt as impt as low teacher:infant ratio at tis stage.. doesnt matter if they r in Montessori, kindermusik or Multiple Intelligence sch.. curriculum is more impt when they r older like 1-2yrs

coz ultimately while infants r so young, e most impt is to ensure tat enough attention is given n caretaker is able to "stimulate" e kid..

it is e "stimulation" tat makes me choose an infantcare over babysitter coz i feel babysitter more or less can take care of bb v well but hard to find one tat can "stimulate" kid's thinking..

me too also a g6pd carrier.. on my first visit my gynae told me if it's a gal it's likely to be a carrier too. but boy will depends on luck lor.. cos hb is not a carrier. seems like our generation alot of g6pd hor? my frens and cousins ard also like that leh

btw i bought my cot at bb kingdom for $319 and we upgraded to the fake "safety" mattress for $20. Intend to get the babysafe mattress abit later leh.. now hearing wat shelled has mnetioned mayb should get it now instead hor.

suan feeling at the part means bb is coming out? not cos bb is pressing on you? i dont have suan feeling but sometimes i have tight feeling but after awhile the tight feeling is gone.. i even ask my hb if i'm going to labour now.. haha. but now it's still too early for bb to come out rite? only 26 wks leh..

U asked abt the Babysafe mattress? I called Kidzloft &amp; cfm-ed they dun have theBabysafe brand mattress, but they have other baby safe mattresses. Looks like gotta get from KP liao.

I think at infant centres also have some programmes for them leh. Hahaha.
I think some centres use cots for young infants, mats for mobile infants / older infants.
The mats at preschool usually will be wipe by the auntie cleaner over there every day and out to dry in the sun
on saturdays. Usually some parents will purchase bedsheets to put over the mattress the kids use at school and
the kids will bring home to wash on friday.



GOSh! I feel my back so aching today. It's so uncomfortable until i look like humpty dumpty. SobSOb!

i heard my mum said: boil like cooking herbal tea.. boil water with herbs in the big pot. then let it cool for few hrs before u bath with it. (depends on how warm u want to temp to be) then pour over ur body or sponge bath type..

dun think we need to bring anything.. only know need to wear comfortable pants so light exercise that she is going to teach us.
