my pri sch is nanhua.. so since it's soooo popular, i mioght hfta join the (expensive) alumni membership? kaoz... else, 2nd choice will be rulang.. which is hb's pri sch le.

wah! u all toking abt pri schools alreadi?! i still haven't settled on my boy's playgroup. still have pre-school then pri sch. faint.
 
MMI: caden is in MMI, Admiralty area. The teachers are quite new and i was hesitate in putting him there but they do have experiences elsewhere. I was there on the first day to try out my boi, i can see that the supervisor and the teachers are very keen and nice to the babies there. Caden got HFMD a few weeks ago and the teacher called me a few times to ask about my boi's condition. They also take follow up action when they see there is something amiss or improvements to be done. I see more toys and baby "gadgets" too. The babies also have some art and craft on handprinting for National Day.
 
hey mummies going for playdays trial this saturday. Anyone wants me to help them get the small pkt of ABC pasta from the supermart near my office? small pkt, 70cents only... I helping my friend buy and bring for the trial. Anyone else wanna lompang?

I am in the same predictment as you, my pri sch is no longer around. Even if it is, it is a girl's sch and Aaden cant be enrolled in it. haha...

Preschool
Anyone in Punggol, Sengkang has recommendation for playgroup, preschool for our young ones? I goggled about Carpe Diem in Punggol, does not seem to have much good review with the exception that it has a great outdoor space.
 
Sorry Kiki, i gotta update you about the Sunday's trial. HB might not be around and i think it is pretty difficult for me to manage Aaden as im around 28 weeks pregnant. Will try to let you know soon.

mashy, there are kids who go to "ming xiao" who dun do well, and those who dun go to "ming xiao" but do well. Don't feel about about not sending C to a "ming xiao" -- I can tell he's a smart kid from what the teachers mention of him. And he'll catch up on his writing skills in a matter of time, so I'm sure he will do just fine.

both my pri sch and hb's pri sch also gone. But we found out that his old crappy pri sch has merged to become the most popular sch in amk beside sng. He's eligible to go there as ex student ie phase 2a. So u never know. U may wanna do a search and see whether it closed down or merged.

i oso agree with wat mich said... doesnt mean go good sch sure will hv better grades.....or if go neighbourhood sch will end up borderline! the sch itself is NOT everything.. alot of tings tog to 'determine' a person's path de. the individual, the ppl ard, the condition ard, n watnot.

for me, i hv been wanting to put my kids in the same pri sch as i..not cos it's a good sch. (i din end up in good sec sch..n did not further aft sec sch! so much of a psn cmg frm a gd pri sch?!? haha.)... but cos i spent 7yrs there, from pre-primary to pri 6...was in the dance team frm pri-primary (they had this pre-primary classes, like kinddy like dat de..) till pri 3... so like felt a close bond to the sch. hehehe.


btw babyS, keona lost weight le la.. weighed Mattea & Keona ystrday mrng.. they both nw oni 11kg...aft being sick for a wk or so.. k la, weight is not important.. not too heavy can le. but most important is their lian she is better now le...n their appetite is slowly cmg back.

i juz bought 2 pairs of jeans oshkosh de... the design i like oni till 18mth size.. boh bian settled for another design..2T size not much diff frm 18mth (which was too tight)..n it doesnt cm in 3T..so i bought 4T!!!!! abit loose, but i tink this pair can wear for some time! hahaha.

re ming xiao: mashy, if C asks u why he not in good school, tell him the school he's in now is good becos he's there!! =)

i dont really believe ming xiao means will produce top notch students. Some of those top notch schools will also have their fair share of bad hats with terrible character/ attitude etc..
 
baby shoe: btw anyone got get baby shoes for our little ones. I got a pair a year ago but till now no chance to wear yet. He still cannot walk by himself yet but with support he can but tempted to let him wear hehehe. I heard they say can only let them wear when they really can walk (old time saying).

like what piggy/fatbobo mentioned, sec school/poly/university is beyong our control already. We can only encourage them to study hard but totally up to them whether they want to do it or not.

For me, my job is to give them a good foundation and upbringing. Along the way, its them who decide which path to go from then on.
 
yup yup.. (hehe..) actually hor... abit 'saddist'.. but hor.. i do look at uniforms when i tink of schs oso de leh. hehehe.

sending kids to branded schs.. best enrichment classes n all....... i heard of afew cases.. kids sent to enrichment classes since very young.. kids hv supersonic brain.. do well in sch.... but, personality n behaviour wise, fail big time. too proud..tinks teacher n classmates in sch too slow.... in the end..nobody wana be-fren the kid!!!

Re Ming xiao

it's true that not all good students come from Ming xiao and only lousy students from neighbourhood schools. The issue now is that schs are given the flexibility to choose sch texts within a few approved ones and very often exams are tested beyond what they learnt in textbooks. In the better schs, they'll expose the students to more stuff than just textbooks. That's why u will see that the Ming xiao produced a higher average students. For a neighourhood sch, scoring a 240 is very good but it may just be average for a Ming xiao. I also think that if u put them with smarter children, they will learn from each other. A good eg is my son. He has a choice between going to the older age group in k1 or be in nursery. I put him in k1. He can read very well now even compared to the k1 group. If he is in nursery, he will probably be barely able to read since that is what the group dynamics are now. That day I shared a table at Ikea. The mother upon seeing my son reading a rather complex storybook asked if he could read it. He could and that mother started scolding her own son who was in nursery for not being able to read! My boy altho in k1 was born in the same year no matter what. I was still so paiseh that I said he's in k1 rather than telling her the whole truth.

But of course different pp need different settings to help them learn so one kid will be different from another.
 
mashy: yeah totally agree.. it alldepends on the kid.. I was from neighbourhood schools, i was really slow in pri school. Always 4th in class.. from the back. but when i went to Sec one i got a shock of my life when i realised i was number 4.. from the front! (not cos the rest of my class stupider than me.. haahh) Then over the years i realise, education in singapore is all about memory.. how much u can remember etc. I couldnt absorb much or remember much in pri and alot of it wasnt very hands on., but i know it was different when i got to sec school i could remember more cos it was a more hands on approach etc..

I had one church friend who sent her 4yr old daughter for so many enrichment classes. Swimming, ballet, tap, chinese, french (and she's pure chinese, no need for french at all.) even sent her for interpersonal classes and etiquette classes!!!

I really pity the kid leh, cos each time i see her she's on a way to a class... now she's a teenager/ almost young adult.. i wonder if she remembers what went on in her childhood, or did she merely remember the classes she had to go for when she was a child..

the intention of the parent is good,but when i think about them missing out on their childhood which will probably be the most carefree/ stress free periods of their life, quite sad leh

agreed with you, and you are so lucky at least your hb crappy pri school merged into a good school haha...

my #1 character is competitive, when he see his friends can do that task he will want to achieve the same if not better. So usually if I want him to do something I make it as a challenge and he do it very fast. Now monitoring my #2 what character.... :p

unfortunately this will be the way in singapore unless the system changes. It's better to get them ready and used to stress and work now than getting an overload later. The moms who have older kids all told me that they regretted not pushing them harder in kindy and they are doing that to their younger ones! The pri sch is no longer the ones we know. It's not so easy anymore. It gets harder every year. When I see how my son struggles to write, my heart bleeds. Carefree childhood is a thing of the past in Singapore.

its true, alot of mummies (my friends + relatives) with older kids told me they regret not letting their kids attended certain enrichment classes when they were in kindergarten or earlier thats why their kids were having extremely tough times adapting and catching up in Primary school.

Key preparation into P1 must at least be able to read well because it will affect their math/science (in english), able to write, chinese,

Enrichment like dancing, piano, drawing, swimming are really extras lah but they can bring out the "creativity juice" or sportiness of the kids :p
