(2009/07) July 2009 MTBs

I am also considering buying the Capella s705, and comparing it with the Combi Urban Walker. But after testing the 2 models, it seems like the Combi feels flimsier although it is lighter. Sort of like the handle wriggles around when you shake it. But I like both models cos they are lighter than the European brands and can open/close with one hand.

Any mums with experience slinging? I am afraid I will be too blur to tie the sling properly, and I am also wondering if my shoulder will get v sore/painful using it.

Poschicon!
Glad the results are normal. Happy pregnancy!

When is your 20wks scan? I just went this morning everything was fine and the baby is doing great.
Ladies!
Pls suggest some places to buy a maternity clothes as i was waiting for my 5months scan.Preferably not the expensive kind. Thank you!

Hi Sunnyduck,

THanks for the info, that is what i suspect too , just had to bear with it.

I found one sarong sling on www.cheerfulmama.com where it doesnt come with buckle or ring. It measure the length btwn the shoulder and the hip and determine the size u should get (S,M,L) and it's reversible. Reasonable price and im thinking to get 1

I have used Baby Bjorn Active and a sling for my gal, we like both
happy.gif
The Baby Bjorn is sturdy, loads of sponge and provide lumbar support. DH used it mostly when we're out on a walk or trekking. This carrier allows the baby to face the front. I like the sling cos it's compact, fits well in the diaper bag and easy to put on and take off. I do get some ache on my shoulder when I carry her for long, say more than 1 hr, maybe I'm not wearing it right.

I hv just bought an Ergo Baby Carrier for this second baby so I can carry her on the back. This carrier doesn't allow you to carry the baby facing out; the theory is that the baby can get over stimulated by the surrounding and can't have eye contact with the parents. My galfriends highly recommended it, but I haven't put it to use.

mrsc
the babycarrier i will recommend babybjorn too cos of the lumbar support and also bb can face in n out.
i tink not all model hav the lumbar suport thou
only the synergy range if im not wrong.
i tink the onli cons is can onli use for bb up till 12kg. for Ergo one can use up till 25kg i tink

For Baby Bjorn carriers, only the Active and Synergy models provide lumbar support. I think the mesh material used for the Synergy and Air (no lumbar support) will be a better fit for S'pore weather. Must say one down side of the Active is that it was quite warm for DD and DH when we used it during the summer months, we were in the US then.

re: baby carriers/sling

can i check roughly wad age is suitable to use tat? bcos some haf recommend me to use that instead of stroller when the baby is still small. but was told that too small also cannt use. so is around how mani months? 5 months?

I think it's not so much about the age but more about the weight and neck stability. For example the Baby Bjorn carrier, the baby has to be a min 8 lb (3.5 kg) for face-in wearing. So we were able to use it face-in at a very young age for DD cos she was born over 9 lb, and use it face-out when she was a little over a mth old when she could hold up her head. For the sling pouch, you can use it from newborn to toddler, depending on how you want to carry the child; eg snuggle-front or hip-carry will probably have to be a little older when they're sorta sitting.

Re: Baby Carriers/Sling

I used a sling for my daughter from birth to about 9 months. By that time she was about 6kg plus and my shoulders would start to ache after carrying her for more than 1/2 hour. I decided to buy a Beco carrier and I love the way it distributes the weight of the child. Right now she is about 9.5kg and I usually carry her on my back using the Beco. Like the Ergo, it doesn't allow the baby to face forward and the material can get a bit hot in our weather. Hope this helps in your decision making!

Brand New Philips Avent Breast Pump for Sale

HI Mummies;

Wondering if any of you have gotten your breast pumps yet? I bought a Manual Avent Breast Pump a few months ago with VIS Storage System and want to sell now. Brand New have not used at all.

Selling because Brother bought me the Out-and-About version which has the same manual pump so no point having two of the same type.

Interested please let me know.

Thanks!

Re: Slings

So far most of the mummies from the 06 thread that i'm at swears by Ergo Carriers, coz they're comfy and can carry very heavy weights easily. So even when your kid is very heavy, u can still use it. It's unlike the slings where u can only use for the first few months. After that, it'll be too back breaking to use anymore.

hi mummies

its been a long time tat i last logged in, the thread is moving fast

glad to get my amnio result, its normal and i am expecting a gal tis time...i felt so relieved of the result

mashy, can help me update? thanks!

cincin

jus to check are the sizes for the maternity clothes from coozfashion small? saw tat theirs are free size..not sure can fit in.

I had previously bought some bottoms from them at L, cos I'm usually in medium-sized, and prefer fitted bottoms.

The 3/4 ones are fit snuggly around the calf, but are really huge around the waist, which is a elastic band with button holes in them and a button at the side for you to pull out the band to a fitting size. Personally I don't really like wearing them unless I'm wearing a long top over them because the space around the belly is for a size that is closer to the later part of our pregnancy when we are much bigger. Or maybe I should have stayed with buying a medium-size ones (I can't be sure because the leg openings aren't exactly very broad.) The long pants I haven't even put it on because it's too loose for me, and wide-legged, feel like drowning in it.

Hi blessed, did u attend the workshop today? I could not attend as i hav fallen sick again. Haiz...oso din go down to the expo fair too but hearing many of yr feedback, i will look forward to the takar bb fair.

So upset...i only managed to get well for a week, then fallen sick again

Re Baby Carrier/Sling

Went to Combi showroom today and the promoter recommended the Magical Compact Carrier. can be used from newborn to 30 mths old. costs $169 (if I remember correctly). quite like it and most likely will buy. Actually i like combi brand as feel that they really pump in money to do research and come out with very good product.

Re Baby carrier/ sling
Mummies, don't buy any baby sling unlesss you're 100% sure you know how to wear that. I bought the sling about 3 yrs ago for my first baby, in the end I never use because it's very complicated to wear and with the newborn wailing and fragile, it seems to be impossible to get the baby in the sling without getting entangle. My pedi also said the baby carried in the sling for a long period tend to have a curled spine. (this sounds quite scary to me!). So this time round I buy the baby bjorn, it's very easy to use and ergonomic for the baby. there is a thread in this forum for overseas spree. Retail price here is about $175 for the most basic one, in the spree you can get it at US$49.99

As for the stroller, it's worth to buy stroller which has good quality and sturdy. Personally I don't recommend Combi. As a few of my friend have been quite dissapointed with it, after about 1 year, can really see the wear and tear. the wheel is flimsy, and the joins will make lots of noise. I bought Mac Laren XP 3 years ago it was about $388, now the price increase so much: $568. It can last you from new born till 5 years old kid, and also till your 2nd and 3rd baby. The downside is rather bulky and heavy. But using it so many time in garden, road and even escalator without any problem.

etirto

I agree not everyone will know instinctively how to use the sling. Many of my other forum mummy friends bought the slings and end up didn't use coz dunno how to use. So buy only if u know how to use. I also struggled with it for a very long time before i know how to use it.

For carriers, beware of those that hold them at the groin.

Hi babyethan, poshicon and hopper, glad to hear that everything has been going well
happy.gif

koko, my bb is also quite small when i did my last detailed scan. But gynae did not say anything, so i'm gg to assume everything's ok. Hee, I hav jus prepared a measuring tape to monitor how much my tummy has changed everyday

Lamagier, read abt your weird colleague in the past threads. Hope yr email to him is going to stop all the harassments...cox it really sounds pretty draining to deal with this kind of pple.

Beverly, thanks for the musical link. Nice! I felt my baby movement for the first time when listening to it

Re Baby carrier/sling,

haha, thanks to the experience mummies here. Me first time mummy and already had the impression that the sling is not going to be easy! Though it is really attractive in terms of price compare to the baby bjorn. lol! Looks as though u could tie anyhow and drop bb if careless. WOAH!!!!!

Re Baby carrier/sling
I would recommend new mom to try out various products before investing. Go to friends who already have the particular carrier or sling and try on with your baby. I'm not sure about the stores in S'pore, do they let you try out the product? The cost of buying carriers and sling can add up quickly.

Re Stroller
Weight is a very important factor for me when I pick the stroller. As I was often out by myself with the baby, I need one that I can easily unload from the boot, open and load the baby. I have a Maclaren Quest Sport, an umbrella stroller. It's great for city walk and mall shopping, cos it not too bulky and easy to maneuver. The downside of an umbrella stroller is that it usually doesn't come with all the bells and whistles; eg the shade is quite small and doesn't fully recline thus not recommended for newborn. I hv a Maclaren Easy Traveller to carry the infant carseat for the first few mths cos baby is often asleep during the car ride. Just throwing out a few more options here, HTH

Hi mummies,

Thanks for the recommendation! Will look into Ergo n BB Bjorn. How abt those auto sarong which bb sleep at nite? Thinkin of putting bb to sleep sarong at nite till a certain age before transfering it to mattress.

My hb just told MIL on our bb gender and asked her to think of chinese names as both of us are not good at it. And she was telling us that she is not able to look after bb after my maternity due to her inability to carry bb. So our next choice will be our neighbour who is also a SAHG (granny) but she will need to travel to fetch her grandson from school in the afternoon. Or the final alternative will be a nanny around my area.

Any one has recommendation for nanny or bb sitter around Segar (bukit panjang) area? sigh.. it's a headache finding help nowadays

hi peanut,

I'm glad you and your baby like the music

Me abit lazy will only listen to the music if I wake up in the middle of the nite and got nothing to do. haha....

hi ladies,

Understand that some of you are using steamer to sterilized the milk bottles. Would like to check if steamer is using the same logic as sterilizer to sterilize milk bottles? any difference in terms of temperature?

Beverly, scientifically the steam will be the same temperature whether using a steamer or an electric steriliser... but the key thing is whether the steam can effectively reach all areas of the bottle, particularly the inside. That's why electric sterilisers allow you to place the bottle upside down to ensure that all the steam can go in. I'm not sure if there will be sufficient steam if the bottles are placed lying down (ie. in a normal steamer)? Unless we do it for longer in order to ensure that more steam is produced = more steam enters the bottle?

Am also wondering if I should get a normal steamer or an electric steriliser.

Hi nicole ann,

SAHM means stay at home mum.

RE: Baby sling

I agree baby sling not easy to use. I borrowed 1 fr friend for my #1, end out didn't use cos complex to adjust. I just use stroller or arm carry. Also bought Bjorn active end up sold away cos baby don't like to be inside too long! And warm too! Haiz!!

Re:Baby pouch

Now came those baby pouch, wonder if can use for newborn? Anyone can commend? Keen to get if good to use cos no need to tie at all. Just go over ur head and shoulder, very convenient hor?

Sorry to interrupt ladies. I have a brand new tube of Clarins Stretch Mark Control Cream to let go. PM me with your interest. Thanks!

hi sunnyduck,

Thanks for the info. In that case I will go for steamer instead of sterilizer. Coz more worth it to get a steamer where I can use to prepare food and steam rice
happy.gif
some steamer we can remove the tray in between i think so can place the bottles upside down.....will go n check for that.

poshicon

can try the synergy. my boy is still using it and its not too bad... much cooler then the active.

now am considering the ergo carrier... :p hahah coz its very comfy when i tried my frieds and with the newborn insert can put newborns in it. but bad point is that its actually warmer then the synergy carrier.

hi mummies, been missing in action, cos i had a fall last wed on the way to send my #1 to school. was wearing new slipper, didn't realize so slippery, fell on one knee n landed on my buttocks. happened so fast that i didn't realize anything except my knee blueblack. however, the backache and sprain ankle only came in a few days later, and yesterday right abdominal pain, under tummy. hmmmmm, so decided to call doc but he's out of town till tuesday, so i guess i have to bring forward my appt to tuesday, i think will feel better after see doc. anyone has similar experience???? cos i thought if no bleeding shouldnt be a big problem as foetus are cushioned inside...hmmm

elijah'smummy, wah u supermommy ahhhh in making the cake, happy birthday elijah, you are super adorable. i've added u in my facebook, hope we get to know each other more...hehehehehe

coolkero
oh dear.. i hope u did not have a bad fall
by right if no bleeding or tummy pain it shld b alrite but better to go to ur gynae thr n have a check
meanwhile monitor ur bb movement ok...

coolkero, we really got to be extra extra careful esp it has been raining these few days. If the pain is unbearable or if you are not comfortable to waiting till tue, you could go to a&e.

Yesterday, hubby and I witness a mummy carrying a 2-3 yrs old boy, slipped and almost fall down the stairs. We both had a fright! Luckily mummy managed to get hold of herself. I felt a little bad for the mummy bcos as she was recovering from the shock, her husband, who was walking infront of her reprimanded her. Hmm... that's not very nice of her husband hor.

beverly/sunnyduck

I used a steamer to sterilise my boy's bottles & my breast pumps. NO prob even though lying down. In fact, u can also remove a layer if u want the bottles to be placed upside down. The steam temperature is the same. TO be safe, I steamed for 30mins.

etirto, for bb sling, you must know how to use it to appreciate it. I have used the bb sling for my boy till he is 14kg and simply love it as I could bring him anywhere without the stroller and my hands are free and also I can bfd him easily in it.

In fact, I have 2 bb slings that I interchange when I wash one and use the other.

Beverly/Mashy - hmm, I didn't know some steamers could have the layers removed to fit the bottles. If that's the case, I definitely am leaning more towards using a steamer instead; when baby gets older, we can use it to steam their veggies/fish. Great idea!
happy.gif

Elijah's mummy - amazing cake! Is it a fondant covering or is it an agar agar cake? It looks great esp with all the toys on it. Happy birthday to your boy!

Coolkero, be careful in the rain! Hope everything is okay since there is no bleeding. I also have a big bruise on my knee from slipping in the rain, but that's all. Need to shop for better shoes...

thanks HBB, penut and sunnyduck, the abdominal pain seems to be on and off, not very pain, but it's just there, can feel it especially when i stand up. sometime i wonder also if the pain exist because of my tummy bigger or izit because of the fall. will monitor baby movement, so far i cant really feel the big movement yet, i'm in my 18th week now. it didn't occur to me that i should see doc after a fall, now kinda regret cos definitely mind will be at ease if i saw him last week.

Oh no coolkero, pls be very careful esp these few days hav been raining very heavily. Do see your doc once he's back k. Take care!

Elijah's mum, your cake is very pretty. So sweet of you to make your boy a bday cake
happy.gif
Winnie the pooh somemore...so cute!!

coolkero
liek peanut say if the pain persist
dunw at till tues
jus go straight to KKH A&E to have a scan or listen to heart beat to make sure everythg ok
the pain might b muscle pain or sth else we never know
take care k...

Elijah's mum,

Thanks for ur recommendation on Bjorn Synergy. May consider after delivery if want to get.

Ur cake really very professional! It's so smooth on the outside! Wat is the smooth layer on it? U attended cake making class before? I think u can do home business doing this!! Maybe we can place order fr u next time! U got Hello Kitty cake deco? Hee!

Coolkero,

U better make sure u go visit ur gynae on Tuesday when he is back! True if no bleeding maybe not serious but better to play safe. I would want to faster scan my baby to know if my baby ok or not cos we won't know without Dr's reasurrance by scanning.

Need to make sure heart beat is present is important!

When I was 9 mths tat time, I got gush of bleeding and tat time also my gynae was away. So I got to go KKH that evening. Don't feel the MO there is professional cos didn't give me jab only scan, clear my clots and give me duphastion and her explanation not so confident.Somemore say baby just not stable, hospitalise also can't cure anything.Just observe only!Even ask me how many days MC I want!! How would I noe if I need how many MC for this condition?

Lucky my gyane back the next day, so I went to him again the next day to make sure I'm really ok. My gynae gave me a jab and really give me better reasurrance so I feel better.
