sweethalo, congratulations on successful 3 days! Anyway, don't measure your success by how much he eats, or how long he takes to eat, or by what method he chooses to eat it. You'll just be adding stress to yourself, and these little buggers can sense anxiety from a mile away wahaha! And yes, don't keep wiping mouth. Kids are meant to be messy
If it gets too messy, maybe just use the spoon to scrape around the mouth a bit, then only wipe up properly after he's done. If we keep wiping/scraping, it's abrasive on their tender skin too. JIAYOU!
Foods: So far tried giving (apart from cereals) pumpkin, carrot, spinach, broccoli, pear, cucumber, avocado (her fave!), banana, papaya, apple, prune, sweet potato, blueberries, bread, potato, yogurt & chicken. Actually the bread was the crust of the toast that we were eating, tear out and let her hold and feed herself (she loves it), and the potato was the chips from our fish & chips! Kekeke... She really hated the broccoli the 1st time she had it, so subsequent times I mixed with banana to camouflage the yucky smell (I bought the Gerber broccoli in jar, even I thought it was super yucks haha). She also doesn't seem to like chicken, cos past few days I've been giving her, she hasn't finished her meal, when previously she always finishes everything. Hmmm... Gonna intro tofu, pasta and beef to her soon.
Fall From Bed Club: Skyla can now join the Fall From Bed club
She fell from the bed, hit against the protruding bed frame, then landed on the floor. I had built a pillow "fortress" on the bed, but there was a gap, which I noticed, but thought she can't crawl forwards mah, so didn't get too worried. Then suddenly realise even though she can't crawl forward, but she can ROLL what! So quickly went over to close up the gap, but was too late, she rolled right before my eyes. I screamed, and I think that frightened her even more, she cried so hard and I felt so bad I hugged her and cried together with her. Hai... But miraculously no blue/black or "bualuku". There was an angry red line where she hit the bed frame, but that disappeared by the next day. I was so afraid to tell my hb, waited till he came home that night before I told him...
Choking: Oh, and she also choked on her food 1wk ago. I gave her indian naan to hold and eat/play while hb and I had dinner. She was doing very well munching away on it, until the end, when she started gagging. We pulled out a small pc of the naan from her mouth, thought that's it, but she gagged again. I stuck my finger in to swipe, found nothing. Leaned her forward and thumped her back, but she still made gagging face after a few seconds. Took her out of high chair, she started crying, gagged again, then made a loud gulping sound. She was breathing that means she wasn't technically choking, so we weren't really panicking yet, but still... Swiped her mouth again, this time even touching her throat, nothing was stuck anywhere. Thumped her back another time, she continued crying, then gagged again. Ran to get water for her to drink, after a few sips, she gagged again. Finally hb turned her upside down, butt in the air, head pointing to the floor, and thumped her back again. This time, a bigger pc of soggy naan came flying out of her mouth. I believe she had managed to swallow it, but it got stuck just past her throat, that's why I couldn't feel anything in her mouth and throat. HAI... We all got a scare, and now hb doesn't dare to let her hold anything to eat... I do feel safer that I have infant first aid/CPR training, but it's scary when it actually DOES happen to your own kid lor.
Questions:
1) Does the ikan bilis powder need to be cooked over fire? Can I just add it to my rice cereal (which I mix with room temp water)? I'm not feeding porridge now yet.
2) How to help baby develop pincer grasp? I gave her Happy Baby puffs just now, at first she tried to use fingers, then later gave up and kept using whole hand to grab, so ended up not being able to eat anything, cos stuck inside her hand haha. Should I continue to give her the puffs, so she can practise??
