(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

lenny
my ger needs me to nap with her. and at nite she keep waking up, dreaming or what i dont know... so i cant go out at nite since delivery. and pil will entertain her till i come home if ever i need to go out...

Lenny + reverie,

Haha I hope I don't go cuckoo too. Just relocated a few days ago. Not applyinh for jobs yet until my french is more acceptable so will be sahm until then. Yikes!

As for disciplining, only one word for me: supernanny!! LOL

(Ok back to being offline)

Don..

Re: Violence..

Not sure is becos we healers always stand at the back most of the time we are seeing the picture in the larger and wider version.. lol :D But am sure I was still raiding with the big tummy and not forgetting sound was loud from the sound blasters ha ha ha..

Riverie,

My gal sleeps on my bed.. i admit.. i cannot bear to boot her out cos i love the way she hugs me at night.. hubby is traveling so much so we only have each other.

She pretty much need me to fall asleep with. after she unlatch.. she will do all the funny stunts on my bed.. tried to stand up. balance herself then raise her hand high then clap..
she laugh at her herself if she falls.

crawl around hiding her toys under my pillow, bolster and my comforter.. the find them one by one..

i do read to her . she will pick the book that she wants then pass to me.. but before i complete a book.. she gave me another and another..

then she hugs me, "kiss" me and sayang me with her forehead touching mine, pat my cheeks etc... sort of redeeming herself for terrorizing me the whole day. this goes on around 30mins.. sometimes an hour.. before she just Plonk and dozes off..

20 mins after she dozes off.. i sneaked out to have my dinner (tingkat delivery), do laundry, surf internet, read a book and watch tv then wait for hubby to knock off to chat with him on MSN.. if the connection is good from the South China Sea subject to weather conditions

i will be on stand by for her feeding.. if without disturbances, her timing is pretty standard.

i do have a part time cleaner who comes once a week to help me on the major household chores like vacuum, mop, wash my bathrooms etc.. but she is very slow.. always cannot make it in time to iron my clothes.. got to iron myself when Bree is asleep

Riverie..

forgot to tell you.. i hang my baby monitor around my neck if i am out of my room.. then rush to her if i hear the slightest cry.. if i dun get there in time to pacify her.. That's it... her eyes will open wide and she will think that its a morning/ afternoon nap then she will start to play. which means she won;t sleep till a few hours later *faint*

Lenny
u r a v strong lady, physically n mentally... i will go crazy wo hubby support (thou he contributes little).. no one to rant my frustration and i m staying w in laws. My ger also zzz w us. we bought her a single bed and lay beside us. and i use a bolster to separate her fr seeing me (so call). she is v attached to me and not independent (not sure normal). cant sit on the high chair when i am having bkfast after i feed her hers...she will make hell lots of noise. screaming, wriggling blah blah.. really making me insane n making me lose my temper.

i find ur gers growing well and smart and seems easy to take care...

my ger will bang her head towards my chest when napping time when i dont latch her on. she just started to kiss us only. she dont know how to sayang.. wonder is it becos we din teach her well or she dont get it...

change a new helper then! haha...

oh ya u full bfing? me not enough milk. when i put her in playpen to go toilet, make milk etc she will cry till so poor thing.. sigh...

we bought the monitor in the end nvr use.. haha..

i staying w in laws so things are not so easy lah. we need a maid when staying here. we will move out prob sep. but i dont think it is nice to sack the maid aft that...

budget is tight thus we cant have bb no 2 for now...

My hb will not be turning up tomorrow with me oh my he is not feeling well.. better not to attend.
Any mummies who wanna join but didn't sign up do let me know..

p.seed

re: violent
now my boy like to use his head to knock on anything he wants!!! *faintz*
when he's crawling, he'll suddenly stop n knock his head against the floor tile... or playing half way, he'll grab his toy n bump his head against it...
if carry him, he'll out of sudden use his head to knock against yr forehead, cheek, nose whichever his head can reach...
told him off but he still do it purposely... really scare he'll hurt his head... =(

lenny
hope my boi can be so sweet as yr ger... ask him to hug hug me, he'll use his head n knock against me... me n my hb's lip kinda injured by his head... *sighz*
my hb classified him as dangerous boi... hahaha

sunshinebaby
haha...

my ger oso violent, when she cry, she wiggle and you can really drop her if u dont hold her tight and she will struggle on high chair and when we carry her sitting up she will bang her head backward hitting the chair and our chests... she like dont feel pain... sigh

Lenny.. ya! how do they know what is dangerous. going nuts just chasing the little boy around the house. thank goodness i don't face him 24/7. I salute all the SAHMs! oh your gal so cute will sayang you before she sleeps. so sweet!

Meebaby.. my boy is also on a 3hrly schedule. he eats like 2 teaspoon of baby food, 3 gerber stars, 1/2 cookie, 1/10 of a sandwich and maybe 2 bites of fruit over a span of 3hrs. not a lot even at the end of the day =/ (oh he does only 120ml of milk, faint!)

Riverie & Donroxx,

Thanks for your compliments.. i am trying my best to keep sanity by the end of everyday.

Sunshine bb,

I think Bryan doesn't know how to control his strength yet.. initial stage.. Bree came on to me too hard and we both knocked each other as well..
Just teach him to be gentle.. i know he will.. alternatively,.. on the positive note.. you know that you son is doing well else he will not be so strong ya?

Re: Head Banging..
There is an article that i cam across.. i have attached the link.. do read it..

http://www.babycenter.com/0_head-banging_11554.bc

Why does my toddler purposely bang his head?

Head banging is surprisingly common. Up to 20 percent of babies and toddlers bang their head on purpose, although boys are three times more likely to do it than girls. Head banging often starts in the second half of the first year and peaks between 18 and 24 months of age. Your child's head banging habit may last for several months, or even years, though most children outgrow it by age 3.

Possible reasons your toddler may bang his head:

• Self-comfort. As strange as it may sound, most toddlers who indulge in this behavior do it to relax. They bang their head rhythmically as they're falling asleep, when they wake up in the middle of the night, or even while they're sleeping. Some rock on all fours as well. Developmental experts believe that the rhythmic motion, like rocking in a chair, may help your toddler soothe himself.

• Pain relief. Your toddler may also bang his head if he's in pain — from teething or an ear infection, for example. Head banging seems to help kids feel better, perhaps by distracting them from the discomfort in their mouth or ear.

• Frustration. If your toddler bangs his head during temper tantrums, he's probably trying to vent some strong emotions. He hasn't yet learned to express his feelings adequately through words, so he's using physical actions. And again, he may be comforting himself during this very stressful event.

• A need for attention. Ongoing head banging may also be a way for your toddler to get attention. Understandably, you may tend to become solicitous when you see your child doing something that appears self-destructive. And since he likes it when you fuss over his behavior, he may continue the head banging in order to get the attention he wants.

• A developmental problem. Head banging can be associated with autism and other developmental disorders — but in most of these cases, it's just one of many behavioral red flags. Rarely does head banging alone signal a serious problem.

What can I do about it?

Give your toddler your attention — but not when he's banging.
Make sure your child gets plenty of positive attention from you when he's not banging his head. If he still bangs his head to get your attention, though, try not to make a big deal about it, or you may reinforce the behavior. Even if you can't completely disregard the behavior, don't scold or punish him for it. He's too young to understand the situation, and your disapproval may only make matters worse.

Protect your child from injury.
Check all the screws and bolts on your toddler's crib once a month or more to make sure the rocking isn't loosening anything. You can also put rubber casters on the crib legs and hang a soft fabric or quilt between the crib and the wall to reduce noise and to minimize wear and tear on the walls and floor.

Don't put pillows or blankets in his crib to soften his surroundings, because these are a suffocation hazard. If you want to use bumpers on your toddler's crib to soften his blows, make sure that they're thin, firm (not puffy), and securely tied to the crib railings, so your toddler can't get his head between the bumper and the railing.

Try not to worry.
Your toddler may get a bruise or two, but don't worry — head banging is usually a "self-regulating" behavior. This means your child is unlikely to hit his head hard enough to seriously injure himself. He knows his threshold for pain and will pull back on the throttle a bit if the banging hurts.

Help foster your child's love of rhythm in other ways.
Your child clearly likes a good steady beat, so help him find other outlets for his love of rhythm. Experts often recommend dancing, marching, and drumming or clapping to music together. You might also try putting a metronome in your child's room to give him the comfort of a steady rhythm. Make sure he gets lots of physical exercise during the day, too, to help him burn off some of the nervous energy that may feed his head banging.

Start a soothing bedtime routine.
If your child is banging his head as a way of "coming down" from his busy day, try setting up a relaxing routine. A warm bath, a calm rock on your lap, and a quiet story or song may help. You may want to spend a few minutes before bed rubbing his back or stroking his forehead. Soft music in his bedroom can be soothing, too.

Consult a doctor if your child's behavior becomes worrisome.
If your child bangs his head a lot during the day or continues to bang his head even though he's hurting himself, you may have cause for concern. Though it's uncommon, head banging can be associated with autism and other developmental disorders, which sometimes become apparent during the toddler and preschool years.

Autistic children generally don't relate well to people. They often aren't interested in physical contact with their parents and seem to look through people rather than at them. If you notice that your child is losing physical abilities, language, or other skills he's acquired; if he's becoming increasingly withdrawn; or if he's consistently delayed in achieving common developmental milestones, check with his doctor.

Riverie & Mommies

I read that at this stage, babies do not know that they are an individual by themselves. when they see themselves in the mirror, they don't know that its their reflection and thought its a "little friend" looking back at them. Some babies may realize it earlier.

as they do not know that they are an individual, plus at this stage, they are more aware of their surroundings.. Being so little in size where everything is huge to them.. i can understand why they cry for us if we are out of sight.

Separation anxiety actually peaks when bb reach 10 mths old and its a phase that will go off as soon as 18mths and as late as 24mths. For some babies.. it may be longer.

To put ourselves in their shoes.. imagine us in a foreign country where we do not know their language, culture and their place. we will feel lost and insecure.. same goes for our babies.

Bree is not an easy baby to take care.. trust me.. she does throw tantrums too, kick her legs cry and scream then drama starts... bend down to cry.. cover her ears, then mouth, with her hands. like she is so pityful if anyone else goes near her except for me.. she scratches them with her nails.. her dad's neck, eyes, nose and cheeks.. are left with scars.. if anyone who doesn't know.. they will think that i am the one who scratches him during compromising positions. How could anyone believe that my baby, such a sweet, innocent young thing could do it?.. Must call the CSI to give me justice.. muahahah

she just scratched my mum's lower lips and my mom bleed.. oh.. i do cut her nails!!

I know where frustration comes from .. i have been there and still there sometimes. i had learned to calm myself down , take a few deep breadth first before i go to her.

Babies do sense when we are frustrated and it makes them feel and react worse.. cos when they are frustrated or insecure.. we are their pillar of support.. How would we feel and react if our pillar of support is not strong and stable enough for us to hang on? i think we would have reacted the same as well.

Re: Sleep..
I don;t have much time to sleep.. when i accompany her to sleep at night.. i will nap an hour or two.. then wake up to eat dinner and do my chores..after chatting with hubby for a while.. i will go back to sleep with her. Got panda eyes..

Re: High Chair..
I bought the Chicco Polly 2 high chair.. and Bree prefers to eat while sitting on a sofa or the floor. *faint*

Mommies at the bash..

Ah.. finally settled down..

wished i have been able to chat with many of you more..

This morning was mad rush for me, had to run errands around my neighborhood with mom to buy stuff for my grandma. Mom's leaving for Indonesia on monday.

had to cook porridge and then spent an hour chasing Bree round the house just to feed her lunch before i go.yep.. an hour and she only took 3 mouthfuls *faint*

was really drained physically when i arrived at the bash..

though was dead beat.. was glad that i made it.. i only wished i could go round chatting more if Bree was not such a mischief. Blehh..

Morning mummies!

Thanks to PROSPER for organising the bash! Really put a lot of effort into it! We enjoyed all the food and goodies very much. Function room was spacious too and great for little ones to run around in. Three cheers for Prosper and her MIL!!!

And I didn't help organise the bash at all! Just brought some biscuit snacks and plonked on the table.

Very nice to meet donroxx, jennifer in person. Think some may have left early because I didn't see them?? (janbebe, cfchangdee). Scrumpee, starflower, jtho - we missed you!

missycandy, I paid for the Gino cutter already...

And sorry to all mummies for forgetting to bring the crayons to let you try. Lucky there were crayons in the goodie bag already.
I had call from my mum who is overseas to run an errand that morning. Drove from Bukit Timah-CCK-Changi-Dempsey-BukitTimah-Hillview before going for the bash so my head was in a spin by then.
A fell asleep before we even hit Bukit Timah Rd, that's probably why she was cranky and chucking a fit towards the end of the bash.
