Hi SG,
I learnt from a friend who also started with Medela mini electric and gave it up soon, replaced with AVENT manual pump and was able to TBF for >1yr. Now I sometimes will try with Medela pump but found it too slow to extract and volume also lower as compare to manual pump. I found AVENT manual pump more comfy to breast as it comes with a so called "let-down massage cushion" and I can control the speed how fast to pump and how much pressure to pump

me too...hink after the confinement lady leaves..i'll order tingkat service too...coz then i'll be handling baby myself....so now trying to learn as much as i can....
hehe...,my 1st taste of showering for my boy,...it's quite scary..but i think it takes some practice to have the hand of it...hehe

last night and this afternon...my son was crying so badly..it hurts me so much to see him cry....so pitiful or like suffering kinda...i was about to break into tears...coz i dun no wat's bothering him...fed him, carried balh..didn;t work..so i reckon might be wind..so popped in a teaspon of GRIPE water..hope it works and so far so good..he's soundly asleep...seeing the PD tomolo...hope tonight he will get to sleep well...

my son...does that very often..sometimes i also get worry...his face will turn very red and sometimes gives a loud cry..
 
Her cheeks nw not so chubby.. in fact she shrank aldy.. but her weight increase.. at birth 4.115kg nw 4.3kg liao when i brought her to PD for follow up.. Carry her a while my arms tired..

After delivering her and placenta and plus other miscellaneous stuffs.. my weight's reduction was 8kg.. nw to date i lost 10kg.. another 10kgs more to lose must jia you and breastfeed more!
Nw i know why breastfeed can slim down faster cos i will get hungry very fast..then i kept drinking milo..

my BM also pathetic too haha..so partial BF and FM.. Actually if after confinement I'm not sure whether I shld continue BF cos i sure go feasting and eat all the sinful and unhealthy food so in the end this pass into BM and like no use liao..haha..

Hmm.. does the fenugreek work wonders? Not sure if I shld try..

Yup.. I also intending to get tingkat after CL goes off... cook and look after baby at the same time shld be ok.. but the marketing part is difficult..

Daphne, my bb girl also got the same problem while sleeping and very difficult to get her to sleep after feeding.
 
SG/Idlecat - i am using mini electric as well, and end up squeeze both breasts as the pump is not able to pump out some milk. will the avent manual pump be able to pump out? roughly how much does it cost? thinking of getting it leh...

Daphne - my girl makes ALOT of noise at night...always stretching and sighing and i dont know what..she sleeps with us in the middle now, and i cannot sleep coz always wake up to check on her...
 
I drink young papaya boil with fish bones soup to increase my breast milk. I drank it every 2 to 3 days during the first 3 weeks after I delivered my girl, it works wonder for me. Now every time (abt 3 hrs apart) I can express at least 100ml.

My son also the same, when he's sleeping, he will stretch and "gek" himself till face red red then let out crying....
hmmm, wondering what's wrong also...
 
I hold her up, she will get back to sleep. Put her back to bed, she cries. Sometimes this could go on throughout the whole night..

SG, actualy i have the same concern as u.. my boy seems now very dependent on suckling on my nipples to sleep.. got to wean off by 3rd month cos bad habit.. sometimes when hb bottle feed bb, he will not sleep until he suck on me. haizz..

daphne, it's normal.. my bb also make lots of noise when sleeping.. my PD says it's normal..

I am getting for lunch from mom's cooking.. a bit ex, but the food is nice..
 
my bb also makes a lot of noises at night.. she wil squirm.. whimper... i think she is tryin to find a comfy position or jus stretching.. hehe... it will be more entertaining in future.. when they start to test their vocal chords(so my aunty claims)

baby's weight - i was so worried that my bb seemed to be losing wgt... but her demand feeding... but luckily today we went... she weighed 3.52kg. birth was 3.23kg. then 1st PD appt she dropped to 3.09kg... so now put back on some weight and more im happie! =)

breastfeeding - im seriously considering stopping... even pumping.. my nipples hurt so bad!!! im waitin for the bigger sized breast shields... if after using it and still hurt, i might stop... also realise and agree with some mummies who said that hand pumping seems more effective... when i use my hand, more milk seems to squirt &amp; flow out as compared to jus leaving it to the pump... maybe i need to increase the pump power but til i get my larger shield, i shall spare my nips the torture... my left nipple bled yesterday when i was pumping.. luckily i saw it and faster remove the bottle... if kena blood then 50mls of my milk wasted! *phew* saw a cut of some sort at the nip... =( anyway decided to go braless now.. i dun care if my shirts get soaked... i miss the feeling of letting it hang free! LOL now feel so comfy... yeah!

looking at the list, most of the mummies have given birth already... =) the mth is ending soon.. hee hee.. time flies... i also lazy to update the chart le... =P (Sun - keron , JG, jaszho, pinksorbet, devil, lenny, may wong have given birth le.. =P i think somemore as well but i nvr keep track le.. paiseh...)
 
Hi Mummies,

I have delivered on Monday, 23rd March 2009 in the evening. I was vomiting, shaking and drowsy after the whole operation so i was not abke to BF immediately. Tried to BF today, managed to latch on but colostrum are only available in drops. I will try to use my pump to stimulate BM flow later.

mummies, i realised my bb has lots of phlegm...very noisy when he breaths...wonder if anyone face the same problem?

My bb oso seem to have those muscus sound at the top of the nose but used the nasal thingy &amp; cotton to try remove but nothing...very dry somemore!!!! wonder watz tat sound???

Yup, my bb oso has many on his face. Just bought the Avene Thermal Water to clean his face (as recommended by Cindy)..hope it works!!!!

idlecat, wah then seems like manual pump more worth it. my sis bought avent manual pump during her #1 but told me super tiring..tats why suggest me to get electric...true more convenient n i cam surf n type at the same time...but bad point maybe can really empty our breast properly..

moomooland, wintertime, starflower...so we are all alone with bb after confinement? yah indeed no time to rest..yest'd tot can take a nap..sikali bb cranky n refused to sleep for 2hrs...made me carry him walk ard the hse...really very tired. + gt to pump, steriler his botteles, handwash his clothes + hsehold chores...? wah...really shag! really hope to have someone here to help at least can take a break..tink 30mins - 1hr of nap in the afternoon will be great!!
 
oh yah mummies, do u all feel nauseous? i do feel weak at times wonder issit the hormones or i'm hungry coz of bf. feel so lousy...at times carry bb also like giddy...scary!! =(

Think u have the same problem as me. My bb also dont want to latch on.. everyone tell me to persist and let her try latching every session. But i wonder until when then she would fully latch on. Cos my plan is to latch on for nite feeds and then for day feeds then i pump out the excess. Now very tiring pumping out all the time. Wonder when no one helping me, how i going to find time to keep pumping.

bb had jaundice ... measured at 18 so admitted him yest for light therapy ... brought EBM for him late last night but think by now they would have finished whatever i brought over =p

waiting for PD to call me today to tell me if bb can be discharged but i got a feeling that he need to stay for 1 more night cos my #1 stayed for 2 nights too

my rigth breast oso produce much more then my left ... going to try the power pump thingy later and maybe 2 more round on left breast ... otherwise like so unabalanced
 
My bb starting to get cranky since this week, always wanting to be carried the moment she wakes up if not she cry &amp; cry &amp; cry in bed like very cham like that... see already heart pain so we gave in.

And she also wants to be carried till she fall asleep now... duno why suddenly become so spoilt, jialat lah.

my right breast also produce about 10ml more than my left. Power pumping really works, i pump 5mins, rest 1 min, then after every 10mins, rest 1 min. Finish in 30mins, squeeze until my breast almost flatten! hahaaa Tmr then will latch him, scared he forgets how...

Stomach wind
Want to use Ru Yi oil, but when i put it to my hands, feels hot, so i dont think i will apply yet, scared his skin is still sensitive at 3 weeks old leh...

Yday, I tried raw fenugrek 2 teaspoon, boil w water. Hope 2-3days later can see effect. Sticking to red dates tea for now, so far ave. about 100ml both breasts, think my medela PIS suits me, problem is i wonder if the flange is too big/small.

After my sore nipples is healed, maybe tmr i will start wearing my nursing bra again. I wear during the day and remove at night when i sleep.

Baby Stretching &amp; nasal congestion
My bb stretches like ALL THE TIME, my mum says all babies have been doing this for gazillion years, it's their way of "growing taller". As for nasal congestion, my hubbt says he snorts like a "piglet" esp during feeding. I try to use a cotton bud to remove the dried bits when he sleeps. Dont dare to use the cotton wool.

Bathing
Haven't tried yet.

Pimples on face
He woke up with 7 spots this morning. He slept on his left cheek for 3-4 hours yday, once he woke up popped 3-4 milk rash spots already. I'm using cotton wool &amp; water to clean his face.
 
How do u gals pump one breast to see the milk supply result?
what i did was: pump one side till finish is only 5 mins only get about 20-30ml then i change to another side, same thing, only 5 mins for 20-30ml. Then after, i keep on left to right, left to right for more milk to get 90-100ml. Do u all do the same thing as me?

haha we gt same problem.Ya reali kinda work i tried 10mins 10mins wan. tried for 2 times yesterday. Today my right side alone can get 1oz so happy.If can increase to 80ml per pump I can switch baby to full bf le.But I think not so fast de la.Keep trying to drink lots of soup and fulid.I have been drinking fish maw soup for the past 3 days for supper think help alot also this soup is good for baby brain when get our milk.per bottle is $7.abit ex tough.

Wintertime thanks for the power pump technique.Think I will continue to do till milk flow more establise.

the flame thing my baby also gt this problm last nit she just vomit all the flame with milk out . usually formula feed baby will get this last time my bigger girl also. Thats y nw if can total bf than give total at least than they will be better also we nt so worri hearing that sound is very scary.

Long time never log in liao. congrats to all the mummies who have popped! I have been so busy since my Cl left that I hardly have time to log in. Its been very challenging managing baby on my own. I have to pump milk while rocking her on the rocker. At nite, I am so tired.
 
idlecat - im getting hubby to get the Avent manual pump to test out and see. afterall, we're talking about <$100 as compared to Formula which is so expensive...

SG - cannot imagine having to do all those tasks you mentioned, my gal gal also needs to be carried ard the house, must talk to her, and must rock her before she sleeps.. she absolutely cannot lie at cot and sleep on her own...wa cham...too pampered by her grandparents liao...


my gal is on a growth spurt, now drinks 100ml...haiz..just managed to pump 80-ml every 4-5 hours, now must play catch up again...
 
do any one of u have actually EBM but chose to FM bb at night so that bb can sleep longer and we also can sleep longer?
 
st - i am one of them. EBM is just too easily absorbed and bb will wake up more often as compared to formula. i prefer to let her have more sleep, then in the day time, feed her with EBM, and she can play more.

i think one of the mummy posted that in the early hours of the day, the first milk pumped is fat-rich, so it can be used for nightfeed to keep bb more full.
 
prosper - im having bb shower this sat...hope for good weather and good temper from bb. are you intending to feed bb with EBM/latch/Formula on that day? Going to shave ur bb bald to make 'mao bi'?

i am using medela mimi electric. only one pump so must left right left right to pump out. I can't pump one breast for more than 5 mins stright. my milk will run out. must keep changing breast to get more milk.
Tat's y i can't tell my one breast can get how much?

I stop latching on le. All the while i have been on EBM. maybe will give bb on FM on bb shower.
I am going to shave her hair a little bit nia not bald. heart pain to see bo ta. hehe.

How ur weight lost now? mine stopped doesn't seem to go down le. so sad.
 
SG - for burping... my bb also takes a long time to burp at times... so the PD taught me... let her lie dwn... then after 5-10mins pick her up again... they will burp almost instantaneously... sometimes it works for my bb... but i try to burp her sitting la.. or i put her over my shoulder and pat pat pat... she's like a little koala bear.. hee hee... *snuggles my baby*

seabreeze - jaundice lvl quite high wor... that time my bb was 17+... admitted and stayed for 4days 3 nights... =) its quite tiring to go to and fro with the ebm but no choice... JY =)

pacifier / dummy - im very very tempted to use it but i still endure... hahaha... see how bah...

last night was pretty good at the start... after feeding her at ard 130am, she slept all the way til ard 430am... wa... let me rest.. hee hee... then it went downhill after that... -_-" I fed her 430am... then tried to burp her... then she regurgitated... kena my shorts... bed... her clothes... -_-" had to wipe her up... change clothes... change my own clothes... clean the bed.. lucky small portion and at the side of the bed... then! when changing her pampers... she decided to pee... so kena my bed... (my bed nw has pee stains. poo stains. milk stains. terrible!) so i had 2 wet portions on my bed. but luckily also one side so i cld still sleep. hahahaha! but she cldnt sleep after all this... i was awake with her til 6am... *ZOMBIE* then 7am cry for milk again... ya la.. hungry after vomitting... haii... after that she slept... this am b4 my hubby went to work she started to stir again... 930am... ask my hubby to prepare the FM.. dn she kept quiet... -_-" luckily by 10am she started crying so faster feed her... burp her.. bathe her and put outside for my mum &amp; mil to handle...

i will still continue to try to train her to drink 2hrly(EBM) and 3hrly(FM)

sorrie ah quite long story.. LOL... drama of my life... hahahahahaha which im sure most of the mummies here can relate to... =P
