i guess its difficiult to accommodate to everyone's timing and preference. just got to choose the best date and hopefully many of us here can make it for the date =) thats how it all started when my another thread. now many of us have become good friends and we do meet up to get together.

good news....1 of my colleague giving birth soon...most likely next wk...another might b next wk too coz baby's head turned up again so might need to c-sec this time if not can wait till early sept

btw....we better not attend any 1st mth party rite? what about hsewarming? but she's pregnant too giving birth in oct...so am i able to go?

in my company now currently got 4 pregnant staffs....heehee
 
suika: thanks. i think i know which one, but need to double confirm with gynae tmrw if i can take or not. really feeling like putting my fingers in my throat and scratching!!

sperzz: i think if you're choosing C-sec, beter go for epi instead of GA. i think GA hubby cant be around, but Epi can. for me, i'd prefer to be awake and see what's going on lor. just a personal opinion. your first one is C-sec?

mercs: same same. flu, cough, fever...all 3-in-1!!!

Sperzz : will u be considering natural? last time my gynae gave me option for #2, but muz fulfil some conditions if i were to choose natural.

guess its all up to individual and the host whether they are comfortable on the visit while you are pregnant. i do have friends who are pregnant but attended the full mth party. all is well =)

samval: ya my first one is Epi C-sect but I was puhed inside the op rm I become very stress and thru out the op I very shouting dun wan to give birth already n the Dr tried to relax me. So still thinking wat to do for the 2nd BB.

gelato: I also not sure leh. I nvr been thru labour pain. My first is planned C-sect at the 37 wks bec my son breech. I very scare of the pain. Wat conditions must we fulfil for natural birth?
 
sperzz: i'm oso worried abt the labour pain issue now....btw y epi c-sec hubby can see n GA c-sec cannot har? what's the difference between the process other then the staying concious that part?
 
Gelato, I gained 8kg in total for both my preg. So hoping that I can maintain the same this time round. But shd be diff cos I alr put on 4kg liao!!!

PVL, ya, I think you're too ambitious abt Sarah leh. Hahaha... Vane will pick up toys and stuff but will still rqt that we help her out.

2boys_mum, I've been eating and eating since the day I know I preg leh. This one is really an eater, makes me hungry every 2hrs.

Sperzz, I prefer epi c-section cos GA takes longer to recover leh. Your gynae didn’t help to 'distress' you during your c-section? For my #1, my gynae and anaes kept joking with me and hb cos we were very tensed.

sperzz : me too, never expereince. I only experienced some cramps which was more bearable than my menstrual cramps - aft that, doc decided to hv emergency c-section - so no chance to experience real labour. That was my #1.

For #2, i went to a diff gynae (my current). I rem there were 3 conditions to be fulfilled (1) baby cannot be bigger than previous baby (2) blood pressure must be normal (3) i forget liao. In the end, i opt for c section cos' i know my threshold of pain almost zero. If try natural, cannot make it - then go c-section, will hv to pay for both labour ward & OT. more $$$.
 
Giggler : put on only 8kg sounds very impressive to me! i puked & puked when i was carrying my #1, still put on 10kg. hehe...
 
suika: I think GA is liking having operation so husband cannot go in.

giggler: my anaes only ask me to relax and when my son come out, he ask me if I wan something to relax, then he gave me some gas to breath n I think I passed out for awhile while my gynae was doing the stitching and wake me up when is done. My husband also almost fainted when he see my BB bec he abit afraid to see blood....

gelato: I also scare wait cannot natural then emergency C-sect will have double cost....
 
suika: both ops are the same just that one is conscious and one is unconscious. diff why hubby can go in for Epi C-section, cos its done when patient is awake. as for GA, the Anasthetic has to jab you till you knock out then start the procedure, so its kind of private and don't want anyone to see like that.. also, recovery is longer for GA cos it takes awhile before you wake up and once awake, may feel drowsy etc. i checked with my colleague who had 2 boys and tried both C-sec using GA & Epi. Epi recover faster, and eventho if hubby is in the delivery ward with you, the bottom half will be covered by a screen so he cant see what's going on.
 
sperzz : my gynae told me i can try natural if i want, BUT i must be very determined.

I think u can discuss with ur gynae, cos' diff gynae may hv diff views.

i heard abt the laughing gas thing too....is it chargable? some says it helps to lower the labout pain for normal delivery

samval: so meaning both is actually the same juz epi they cut the tummy but covers up u cannot see oni la....hmmm
 
Main purpose for hb to be in the rm is actually not to see bb but more to calm and comfort the wife. So if wife is awake (epi only) the hb can be there but if wife is not (GA) then hb not allowed cos he's not useful.
 
suika : the main diff if not abt the covering up. The main diff is Epi - mother is consious. GA - mother is unconcious.

Suika: Yes, epi c-sec is still operation. Mum is cut up for both.

For GA, a tube is first shuft down your throat (sorry very graphic here) and you are given gas to knock out.. followed by oxygen cos think anesthetician says to regulate breathing. Perhaps becos of the equipment used, & mum is out hubby is not allowed in to observe.

For epi, like in between natural & GA... in the sense that mum is awake with bottom half numbed out... natural, you deliver... epi c-sect, gynae cut you up to take baby out. A acreen put up near ribs, so effectively most gory view blocked out from mum & observing dad (if he's there)... but heard gynae will be updating you on what's happening... and that you can actually feel gynae cutting you, tugging at the baby, etc... and even when gynae removes the placenta! Then the moment baby is out, they'll wrap and pass to you. Dad can carry baby while they stitch mum up... or after a short while, they'll send dad out, send baby for cleaning & finish off the stitching for mum... my nurse says they send hubby out when they are stitching. My friend says her hubby stay with her almost through out... so not sure lor... but the tot of being 'alone' being stitched up scares me... would prefer for hubby to stay in there throughout with me...

I felt quite cheated when I ended up having emergency c-sec for #1... cos we could see her head but just refuse to get out.. so don't even know what labour & giving birth is like... so shi bai...

So decided on epi c-sec for #2 (gynae advice against natural for me cos base on my condition dunno what la...) but I went into labour before the booked date... so emergency again...

But now... after hearing all abt epi c-sec from friends, dunno if I've the guts to go thru it... also dunno if hubby will faint... secali nurse has to attend to him instead... hahaha... cos he feels faint when he sees a lot of blood... but if GA, may never get to witness a delivery... cos not sure abt having #4... scare too old... hee hee.. dun fancy being preg in late 30s... eventhough many friends in that state...

Sperzz: Was the epi c-sec scary? Rate scariness le... 1-10... hee hee...

Giggler: Actually we planned to move out of JW from the day we selected our flat... hahaha... so gradually, we worked at moving away... hee hee... also wanted to move nearer to Ghim Moh/ Clementi cos figured kids probably end up in HPPS... so this Jun, our dreams came true... & #1 going HPPS next year.

What do you want to know about homeschooling? I have a pre-school phonics and maths curriculum that I use. I also include some Chinese, Science and catechism. I try to read books to my kids when I'm free. I live in Punggol. How old is your older one? We could meet. I love to bake too but have no time. Hate cleaning up. The kids disturb me periodically, so it's hard to bake. And these days, I'm too tired

Anything you use in the hospital during delivery (apart from the routine stuff the Dr might need to use) is chargeable. But gas is definitely much much cheaper than epidural. For KKH epidural, I think there is an additional $200 - $300 charge. I'm not too sure about my bill but I believe they charged very minimally for the gas, maybe around $30(??). In the end they refunded me quite a bit of money after the delivery and stay cos I had to pay the 'average bill size' when pre-registering for delivery.
 
EmQ: haha to me is 10/10 for scariness!!!!bec after epi, ur lower body felt numb and no control of them and also can feel wat the gynae is doing to u....but the best part is u can hear the BB first cry n the first look of BB. I still remember my son first cry when he come out....but again remember the fear again

I am on the other side of the island! Bukit panjang. my boy is now 2.5YO, he was a Jan bb too. for now i will do activity books with him and some handy crafts. about there. so for homeschooling no idea of is there a certain curriculum or standard of what to teach etc...
i did tried once baking with my boy, quite fun actually but of cos the cleaning up is challenging with him around.
 
Gelato, for my #2, I lost almost all once after my c-section but sad to say put back on during cf. Hahaha...

Sperzz, my bb didn’t have much blood on their bodies when they were out leh. And I enjoyed the feeling of the bb lying on my body once they're out. I cant feel what the gynae did to me leh. And in fact I enjoyed my c-section.

EmQ, so happy for you that your wish is fulfilled. Diff for me to get out of JW cos both sides' families are here.

Actually, I'm not sure whether they charged for the laughing gas or not, cos the bill was not so specific. I was just guessing from the items on the bill.... 'medication' was so much etc etc. I 'thought' there was a charge for the gas, or maybe it was just for the oxytocin. Not sure lah. But I know it was not much at all. I didn't use any other types of medication during labour at all besides the oxytocin (induction drug) and the gas.

Yah, cleaning up is a pain hor? At pre-school level actually you can do whatever you want. There are many curricula you can get out there. Try checking out the SIngapore Homeschool Group's websites for ideas. I'm using something called 'Christ Centered Curriculum' for phonics and maths. We're Christians and we want a strong Christian emphasis for our children's education that's why we chose to homeschool.
 
giggler: my BB not put by my side the gynae juz show me his look and wrap him up. And the nurses is bz with holding my husband to the side.....heehee. but later my husband got take the phoo how they measure the length of my son....holding on his leg and upside down as if like holding animal..

Samval: think I better clarify... I mean they shuft it down after we are 'out' we are first given gas... then eyelids will feel very heavy.. then doze off and the next thing you know is that sublimal feeling, neither here nor there... you can hear things in the background, but can't open your eyes (eyelids still very heavy)... gradually you gain control of your eyelids, then your limbs... not sure lie down for how long... but I guess about 30mins? Then hopefully someone attends to you when you are ready... I remember I could hear what they were saying but somehow was not able to respond to them... hated that sorethroat after the 1st GA and after my ectopic surgery... so shared with anesthetician just before my 2nd c-sec. He explained that the dry throat was due to the gas & also the scrapping of the throat lining when they put the tube in... (remember my elder sis spat out blood after her c-sec... mainly cos of the tube.. think she's very petite, so throat smaller...???).. anesthetician said he'll try to do something about it... amazingly, I got out of my 2nd c-sec feeling totally fine... a little dry throat but no pain... hopefully I get the same anesthetician again & I'll remind him to do a good job... hee hee..

samval: They need to give us oxgen to regulate our breathing... cos unconscious what... secali stop breathing... they gotta resuscitate lor... of course beside that they also hook us up to monitor heartbeat, blood pressure, etc... maybe that's why with all that equipment, hubby cannot be in there.
