lian
me and my hubby has decided on one of the CC at serangoon central. they have those type of classes where my boy can be accompanied by a caregiver during the class. but the class will be only twice weekly.
we intend to go with this first, until my boy is more comfortable and familiar with the place, then we'll put him there by himself for half a day, daily.

Really a headache

peanut..
add pear is more cooling..if the cough is cooling one..might not be suitable but i read u say nini is more heaty..then add pear is gd..but i think avoiding fish for time being might help too..

Re: Naughty
Alyssa is also getting naughtier. Especially when alone with us - she pretends to be guai when there are a lot of pple ard. Sometimes I dunno wad to do with her.

And she somehow learnt how to throw tantrums the "yi ku er nao san shang diao" method. Cry and try to bang her head on the floor. Dunno where she learn from lor. Sigh.

Re: Pedipeds
Eh those who want do try to place order soon so that you can get your shoes soon. There is a size chart that can be printed from the pedipeds website to use to measure the feet.

Liv: Does the zoo have many sheltered areas? I have thot many times of bringing my gal there but when i think of the heat, like quite siong. Havent' been to zoo for more than 20 yrs so not sure how its like tho..

How much are the entrance fee?

peanut,

hb was the one who was tasked to buy so he din ask many questions. However, my uncle is a chinese physician, so i was only told to feed 4 hours after western med. He asked for colour of phelgm etc.... i also can't remember much. But he did say by certain days no improvement, always best to bring back to doctor. Also, for the chinese pear and chuan pei, according to my uncle, can only be given if she is having heaty cough. I nvr give my gal when she is coughing as I do not know how to diagnose heaty or cold cough
happy.gif

And please do not give chicken, eggs when coughing too...no grapes and any citrus fruits...EVen the PD told me no chilled drinks or food...so remember to avoid these. Hope nini gets well soon...

As for disciplinary method...i can't go with the love and firm type... no time, no patience.... i use the cane on my gal! heehe.... think when my boy reaches 2 YO, he will get the cane too...now we beat his hand liao coz he will bite, beat, pull, take big toys and knock jie jie all the time.... have to punish him else unfair to jie jie...

Fifi,
I feel that the way toddlers behave as in throw temper seems to be more of a natural actions than learnt from somewhere? Alot of toddlers here also seems to throw temper easily, like mine but in another way. If I wanna take something away from him which he shld not be holding, he will hold it so tightly that I need force to remove it from him and he juz cry but I will juz leave him to cry for secs.

darlest, i got the info from the Internet.. i think mycs website got the whole list.. but i only looking at near SK... ;p

soho: not much shelter area leh.. jus small gallery along the way for certain animals,.. most of time is walking under the SUN.. hahaa...
the fee is $18 for adult, $12 for kids.. under 3 is free... tram ride is $5..
i took the tram ride twice.. coz too tired le.. and rest at the Ah meng resturant.. ;p

Good Morning, mummies!

Nat recovered from her 5-day MMRV induced fever. Aly is almost cleared of her runny nose n cough. Yeah! Missed out on meeting you gals at the kite flying.

Peanut,
the chuan pei thingy, I use apple instead of pear (then no need to worry abt heaty or cooling). It helps to "dislodge" the phelgm from the system. I give my gal twice a day. In addition, I give her 1 dose of flumiciul juz b4 her nite slp. My gal's case can be so bad until she will throw up her last milk feed, along with the phelgmy stuff. That's when she will get better. But seeing her throw up, very xin tong lor. Hope your bb get well soon.

Discipline
I also use cane on my gal. Now lesser cos #1 is almost 8 liao. Yet to use on #2. #2 knows the cane li hai cos she's seen it being used once on jie jie before. I believe in "spare the rod, n spoil the child". So a certain amount of physical punishment (in moderation) might be necessary n effective. Whenever #2 throw tantrum, I ignore her tactics. Children very clever one, after a while, they'll get the message. Until then, mummies, u juz hv to bear with it.

When bb wants something from the store which we hv no intention to buy, we let her hold on to it while in the store. When it is time to go, we will ask her to put it back, and say "bye bye" n "see u again" to it. Most times it worked, and we r spare of her tears n tantrums. I think, in a way, it helps to deal with separation, n having s'thing being taken away. Try this, if u hv exhausted all other ideas.

One more thing, when u discipline your child, get her to look u in the eye n deliver a stern n short message. Let her know u mean business. No point talking sense to a wailing child. Try to distract bb from the source of distress n settle bb first. I follow this from a parenting book. Hope this helps.

Peanut,
I think I would have thrown the book away if it's me reading Haha. I'm famous for my 'No-no" Now even #1 also learnt from me, if #2 wants to touch something, she will also said "No-no, beat hor, then beat her right hand wif her left hand for the sound effect.

Kah,
Now your boy knows how to bully Jiejie liao? Remember last time is jiejie always bully him. Now he smart liao, know how to take vengence.

Fifi,
I've heard that when a mom is preggy, the toddler tends to be very naughty and whiney. Not sure if it is true but it happened to me when I was havig #2, everyday whiney for practically no reason. But after gave birth liao, they ok.

Snnowy,
haha, I like the "sound effect".
My #1 will also imitate me n talk to meimei sternly. I told her "cannot scold or beat meimei, your job is to love meimei, mummy n papa will discipline her".

Morning mummies!!

Realise so many SK/PG mummies here hor...;p where in the west can we fly kites??

Recently started toilet training on bb. But he still sometimes ok, sometimes he dont get it :p Hope to train him (at least dry in daytime) by the time he is 2 yrs old haa...wish me luck!

Discipline: Looks like our toddlers all creating headache!! Mine also will scream at top of his lungs, when remove something from his hand. Hiaz. Guess really must be firm. Sometimes feel so embarrassed but gradually getting more thick skinned!

Cute laptop??

glad: u toilet training greg now? u not working ah? my mum last week try to train ethan but he dun want to pee in the potty.. he went to pee at the gate/bedroom/sofa/everywhere... faint..

Good Morning...

DIdnt run through all the post but saw peanut's positive discipline. i think i have that book but i only read 2 pages. :p

its really hard not to say no. suddenly i wonder how many times did i say no a day. wakka.... anyway sometimes when they do something that i dun like i will b like a broken recorder saying no no no no no no no no non onono... kekekek

snnowy,

sama sama...my gal will also imitiate us and discipline her brother.... i will tell her she cannot scold him...only daddy, mummy, po po can scold him. But u r right that my boy is no push over...for quite sometime liao, if he hears jie jie says something about him he doesn't like, he will run from far far away to her and bite or hit her. He hit/bite her all the time...it is very hard to leave them alone for even 1 minute fearing whether he will injure her again.

fifi,

same as snnowy, #1 was super whiney when i was pregnant. However, my case was...even after didi was born, she was still whiney and throwing ridiculous tantrums...think jealous loh....

discipline:

have u all been using cane already? i hadnt use it on claudia. i think they are still too young? i used it on my elder one only when she is near 3 yrs old i think.

stubborn:
claudia everything must get her way. if she dun get it she will cry big time and roll on the floor and recently will kick and throw things. *roll eyes* i really cant stand it sometimes.

toilet training:
i so pei fu all of u got the patient for it. i am bad, i think same as #1 i will wait and let her learn herself... :p

mildy, no use cane yet, but am contemplating when to get a cane, haha...

me everyday oso got to say countless no no no... till now whenever we ask our gal stuffs she will go no no no oso - no has become 1 of her key words tat she got to say it everyday! mus be imitate us lor

Hiya, sneak in to post before i m off for another busy day.

Re: Positive Discipline
I think Peanut is referring to me when she says some mummies find it useful. I have to admit that this book changed my mind with regards to disciplining. It also disciplines us parents too. I m like Aly_nat, i believe in the rod. but after reading this book, it made me wonder if I m using the easiest way out to discipline Z. Think abt it, if someone pisses u off, ur first instinct is to lash out (i do that sometimes too). so if ur kid is annoyed with u, he/she would also just lash out at u. But you were the one that taught them to do so. This is the basis of the book lor. It reminds us that we parents have to set an example. things u dun want ur kids to do, u shdn't. I have to admit it is very very tough to remind urself, esp when u are tired and harried, but i m trying and i tell myself not to hit, scream or shout at Z immed if he does something wrong. Usually i would just remove him away, no shouting, no explanation. if he decides to throw a tantrum, i will tell him i will be waiting to play with him when he finishes throwing his tantrums and then i just ignore him. He seems to get it and will stop his screaming and yelling quite fast and join me.

Of cos, i don't think this works with all situations. say if Z decides to play with the electrical socket, he will get a smack immed. i draw the line when he plays with dangerous stuff or when he hits other kids.

Oh by the way, hitting ur kids, whether with ur hands or cane is illegal in Britain and some of the European Union countries. If u hit ur kid (and somebody witnesses it), ur kid can be removed from u and u can be sent to jail. Yes, it can happen even if it is a smack on the hand.

Jo..
poor lucas sick again.. Yah i tink he takes too much snacks liao.. gotto limit.. My gal not fully recovered yet.. cough lesser but when she does it's stil a bit phelmy.. But the yellow nose mucus stil continue. Tink bobian liao.. will bring her to PD tomm to get antibiotic already.. I'm running out of patience!

Aly_nat
thanks for the advise about the chuan bei/apple tingy but tink for the moment i'll stop on TCM since mayb bringing her to PD tomm.. Besides i've spoken to my mil about this drink and she like not v interested in cooking cos she say her usual apple juice is good enuf liao -_-

ya.. kaka... e mummies i know of who find the book good are bear and Jessica.. but am sure out there are more mummies who find it useful as well.. I do agree with some of the teachings in the book and try to practice them but i find the rest hard to follow wahahaa... So now i'm mayb jus a 1/3 follower.. e rest of e theories i throw into rubbish bin liao.. But stil better than nothing la..

Cane: We dun really cane her but lately when she's notti, my hubby will show her the cane sternly and she'll stop her tantrums immediately.,. usually run to Nainai for protection and say PA PA as in scared scared.. Guess this is useful for the timebeing.. Mayb she;s also more scared of the father..

Bear,
Ya, I think it all boils down to moderation, and depends on situation. I agree with the part abt not using the rod, but I just find it hard to follow. Trust me, our patience will be further stretch as they grow. (b4 any authority comes after me, let me clarify that no cane is laid on bb#2, yet. Think she's too young now. juz a smack on her palms lah)Blame it on my impatience. However, I do remind myself to refrain from hitting her unless really necessary.

True, also, to the part abt the kid learning from us parents abt hitting. Growing up, my #1 used to "retaliate" when I hit her. We realise that the cane has to be gradually replaced by reasoning, whether u like it or not. Talk about patience!!

hi, the book u all is talking abt seem interesting. May i know what is the title & wher can i get it? i admit i have been doing wat bear have done & its work on my gal & i will smack and lash it at my gal immediately when she play with electricity socket or anything tat is dangerous & one time play with broken glass (i almost get the shock of my life when she play with it with blood all over the floor).

and i also read from babycentre website tat child at this age from 15mth to 2 year old are usually quite stubborn due to they are learning and want to do things their own ways. in the parent's eyes, we feel tat they are being stubborn and etc

oh ya, i also read it somewhere tat canning hav to be stop at 6 years old if not ur child will easily turn into a rebellious child. duno how true is tat...

from babycentre : Your toddler is learning which of his tricks get a laugh out of you, and which bring your disapproval. He's studying your reactions, so now's a good time to start teaching right from wrong by cheering on "good" behavior (picking up a toy and putting it in the toy box) and frowning on "bad" (throwing the toy across the room). And don't forget to watch what you say and do around your child: Imitation is one of the ways toddlers learn socially acceptable behavior.

hi lian, it my pleasure. =) btw, do u know wat the title of the book that the rest of the mummies is talking abt? and where can i get it?

Liv: yup me working, so ask my mum to help on weekdays. Weekends then we will 'train' him. but yah, we don't do it every hour lah. we do at the major timings:
1) After he wake up
2) During morning bath
3) Lunch
4) Before afternoon nap
5) During evening bath
6) After night milk feed/before sleep

Heard from colleag that the timings are just like adults. Like normally we will go toilet before we sleep, come back home etc :p So far baby most resistent to pee when he just wake up. Coz he is super grouchy and wants milk only :x and yup he has pee in the living room! I think accidents inevitable ;D

Mildy: I think easier to learn when one has a sibling ahahaa!

ops sorry Darlest, forgot abt tat qn.
T ladies here got it from local book stores. I think Kino/Borders/PageOne should have.
