Hi mummies,

I'm oso a Oct mummy. I delivered my boy few days ago. Am facing some problems with breastfeeding hence I hope the Oct mummies here can assist and advice me.

I try to latch on my baby but no breast milk flow hence i bottle feed my boy with formula milk (since day 1). I think my breast is engorged and I panic now cos I afraid tat my baby will not want to latch on after having bottle feed with formula milk for so many days.

I am consider getting a medela mini electric stimulate by breast and oso try to pump it out. Those mummies who have used or using the medela mini electric pump, can wanna share with me if that is good?

Appreciate your help and advise in advance.

Hi Mickymouse,

I've owned a medela mini electric when i had my no. 1. My personal opinion is try not to get that model. I found it very noisy and it's quite painful. If you plan to get an electric pump, maybe can consider increasing your budget and get a Ameda dual pump?

mickymouse.. u will need to get a breast pump quick to express out the milk.. then u can bottle feed ur boy with the EBM..

my avent juz died on me so i bot an Ameda.. its great.. better than my avent uno anytime!!

I have the same problem as Pinny when I used medela mini electric. Gave up after 3 days and switched to medela PIS advance.

don't worry, bb will still latch on - it's only been a few days and they are wired to suckle. so keep trying to get a good latch.

personally, i think better to get a dual pump. stimulates both boobs. now when my bb sucks on one side, the other side leaks! i hold a bottle to catch the drops haha. so if u only pump on one side, eventually might have to hold a bottle to the other side.

the more u pump, the more flow you'll get. persevere!!

How about medela mini electric plus (dual pump), any feedback? which is better compare to Ameda brand?

My 2nd pregnancy wasnt easy especially the first and 2nd early trimester. Hence I was not able to shower a lot of attention towards my son. During the final trimester as my tummy became bigger each day, I also wasnt able to spend lots of time with him. Like you, I was feeling very guilty towards him and even told gynae I regret to have the 2nd bb so early wor... hence me and hubby decide to wait till our gal turn 1 before we plan for the next one.

Yup, my gynae is also woody. He told me there's nothing to regret and I cannot feel it in this way. While in hospital, when I 'complain' to him that my gal is very naughty (cos I always compare her and my son), he told me every child is unique in their ways...

Hi Mummies,

May i know whats the correct way to latch on a baby? I tried to latch my baby on to suckle, he can suckle, and make loud noises, but after 2-3 sucks, he will throw his head backwards and struggle. then he will aim at the breast again and suckle another 2-3 times, and throw his head back again! I think something is wrong rite? Coz if its the rite position, baby shld be very comfy in suckling, no throwing back of head, struggling, or cry until face is red

I had tried to cradle him in my arms to bf, lie down beside him to bf... but all mtds does not seems to work.

Any advice?

Hi beary,
The bb's tongue must be under your aerola. There shouldn't be any loud noises - means sucking incorrectly and on your nipple (ouch!). Also check the nose and make sure that bb can breathe.

Since you delivered at TMC, you can always call Mrs Wong and make appt with her to get her to show you the correct latch.

Don't give up!

hi mint,

my god! no wonder my nipple feel like kana ripped off feeling. so baby is suckling on nipple

tat day i happen to see mrs wong on my 3rd day in TMC, she ask me to seek help from her nurses. I went down and the lady helped me to empty my breasts, spent abt 30 mins to pump out 10ml and with lotsa squeezing n hard pressing on my breasts. But theres charges of $42 for each visit... I am not sure how much they charge if i bring baby down to learn to latch?
Anyone got the information?

Mint, may i noe wat position is the simplest and easiest for baby to latch?

beary.. mine was c-sect too.. the opsite muz be dry at all times.. u cx the sides of the tape.. see if its no longer in contact with u skin.. if it is, then u better go see ur gynae for a new dressing.. my gynae removed mine 6 days after i delivered.. how many days are u in alr?

for me, the easiest is the football hold and second is the cradle. For football hold, you press your aerola into like an arrow shape then put into your bb's mouth. cradle hold also do the same, just that the 'arrow' is horizontal.

The thing I dun like about nurses is that each of them will tell you a different thing on how to latch bb on. When I was at Mt.A, Sis Kang was the one who helped me.

Your bb has sticky eye. Is normal. Just use cotton wool and wet it with cool boiled water to clean the eye.
