Yeah, its tough to manage such delicate issue since it involves your hubby family. Especially if it involves your own child well-being. The older folks have their own thinking and way of bringing up the kids which to them, is the right way and may clash with what you want.
Maybe you should talk to your hubby and reason from the baby's well-being point. In this case, it's definitely a no-no to put in the box, the poor ventilation, the particles from the box that may be hazardous to your baby when he breath in and also, what visual simulation can your baby get staring at 4 corners of brown wall? Tell you hubby that we are now living in a very different era from our parents time, we are much more educated than our parents and we make choices base on our knowledge so of cos our way of doing thing will be different from our parents and this include bringing up the kid. I think if you can bring up the matter with facts and relevant information, your hubby will listen cos I'm sure he wants the best for his kid as well right?

dseptkon, my baby has another mattress. This mattress is an old one that my MIL has. my MIL emphasized that my FIL has cleaned it. But what if my baby licks it, right?

Hi JP, I wish so too, but he firmly believes his mother knows best since she is a mother herself. And he thinks I am an overly anxious and "crazy" mother.

intend to keep it till she is around a year old, though will ease off with meat when she hits 8mths. my girl CH born Sept 20th...yours?

halo mummies

how often do u feed your babies with water? and how much do u give? and how do u feed the baby with water? my boy do not drink water from the milk bottle... cos my boy is not drinking a lot of milk and he is not pooing regularly....

JP

I am also using an old mattress from FB's time for Jon in the daytime to play on. I think that as long as the mattress/bed sheet is changed regularly it should be ok?! and since Jon licks everything anyway i've kinda given up :D but the sleeping in the box thing is a big no-no for me.

cutiegal
Jon drinks water from a kid's cup or adult cup as he wont take the bottle. i feed it to him after meals and offer sips throughout the course of the day

Hi, Mummies

Finally long weekend is here...Enjoy!

Fish : Any mummies here giving fish already? Can I check wat fish do you use and how to prepare? can we mix with rice cereal? or serve as puree? And, lastly can we freeze cooked fish?

Hi Mummies,

I am new to this thread and would like to join in as I have a baby girl born last September. I need to ask (my virgin question, hehehe) anyone of you has baby with lots of hicuups. Tried to give some water to my girl when she is having hicupps and furthermore she doesn't like to drink water. Please advise.

It's totally fine as they are still fine-tuning their digestive system!

I try to give him water as much as possible since he was around 5-6month old. I believe his kidneys are able to function well at this time.

As he is on FM, I give him lotsa water to regulate his body temp & to prevent constipation.
He drinks abt 80-100ml throughout the day.

I give him water abt 1 hr after each feeding,if he doesn't drink/drink too little, I "force" him by giving some water before feeding, when he's hungry =D

Oh, i just bought two boxes of Haemin playyard and have two panel extra to sell off. The door and the plain panel with the extension to sell away at $65. Self collection at Potong pasir. PM me if you are interested.

Hi Pei, many thanks for welcoming into this thread. Same for my little one when she was in my womb full of hiccups. I have checked with the PD several times on this hiccup issue and she asked me not to worry. Guess we have to get used to her many hiccups till her digestive system is fine-tuned. When she was about 3mths old, she was constantly hungry and PD asked me to feed her water. She was okie with water then (guess she must be hungry.) These days, water does not work. She screams her head off and especially these few days, she has been so sticky to me, wanting me to carry her to sleep before she goes to her cot. Dunno why?
Have you fed your baby any vegetables yet?

Hello lilboymum and dseptkon,
So glad to see that there are other mothers on the organic path as well cos my hubby seem to think I'm overly obsessive for insisting on organic food! : ) So far, I have tried only apple, pumpkin, carrot ( fresh ) and the organic range of Heinz product. Cant seem to find organic pear around though. Anyone has any idea?

Hmm..I tot we can feed meat only from 8mths? That's what the nurse told me when I went on a seminar on weaning food. That's y I'm feeding only fruits with rice cereal/porridge.

Oh yes, my boy has hiccups very often too. I feed him water throughout the day. I use the Avent 180ml bottle magic cup with the soft spout with the handle and he likes it cos he gets to hold it and drink from it...he probably thinks it's very fun. I fill up the whole cup and use that as a target for him to finish for the day.

Am feeling glad am not alone. My little one also tends to have hiccups and you see him "suffering".

Mine is TBF, so he refuses to drink water. Now he is VERY constipated. Yesterday and today he has been trying his best to poo and i can see a piece of poo stuck in his ass, but it just does not come out. He "geng" till face all red and am at wits end what to do.

I've fed him yougurt, prune juice diluted with water, bananas and keeps his cereals very watery. If he does not poo by the morning, am gonna send him to the PD. Poor kid.

i think the culprit is the nestle rice cereal, cause he has always been on HT brown rice but everywhere is out of stock. Only managed to find it at Carefour yesterday. So its been a week and its because i did not wean him from cereal to cereal.

pei and dseptkon

thanks on advidce on feeding of water... am trying out using cup today....

and my boy is also constipated... he cannot take HT brown rice cereal.... i just bought HT barley cereal, hope this will be better for him...

breadmum, my boy will also geng till his face red when he poo.... poor thing right... did u try giving him papaya? for my boy, i tried to give him some papaya and it works...

i think i will try to let him try yogurt... will go to ntuc near my house here to see if they sell...

Hi breadmum, may I ask what brand of yoghurt did you feed your baby with? 'Cos I have found the two types claimed suitable for babies (Yo-Baby and Yoplait) are berry-flavoured which some experts said babies should not be fed with berries at this age and yet I cannot find these types of yoghurt that are natural. I am lost... Please advise.

Hi JP, do you mean you let your baby drink from the magic cup the whole day without changing the water?

Thanks.

Last night at 2am, my little one cried while pooing and both hubby and i helped him by pulling his poo out for him. The first one was hard, then the rest that followed were softer stools. Gosh, it was a real stinko experience. Regret not filming it cause was already so heart pain to see him in pain. I fed him heinz apple and prune juice at 11pm and i think that did it. We've never handles so much poo before. LOL. Come to think of it, its grose.

springless53/bacon & egg - thanks. am stocking up now.

cutiegal - yup have given him papaya before, initially it did help but i think the real cause is my little one takes in very little water.

Aud - its Baby Yoplait Vanilla & Banana. It comes packed in 4 small tubs. yup, berries is advisable to be introduced when they are 12 months.

hi breadmum - what an experience but at least he pooed already... my boy also takes in very little water, think i must force him to drink more water.

i realised that some mummies gave their little ones glucose water.. when do we give them glucose water and how old? is it the type that can buy from NTUC one, blue can?

Breadmum
What an episode! But isn't it a relief to finally relieve ur baby from being constipated!

Cutiegal
My PD says glucose helps to relieve constipation too. The proportion should be a tsp to 60ml water.

Buy the original one (blue).
I believe glucose can be given from birth.

When my baby was in NICU, he was given glucose when he couldn't drink milk.

Hi, Cutiegal

My MIL has asked me to give some glucose water when my boy started soild food, ard 6mth plus but so far I have not cos I manage to "regulate" my boy's constipation with water, papaya, yoghurt and pear...And, ya, its the blue tin one on the shelves..

NESTLE - Any mummies herre giving Nestle STage 2 Wheat & Honey cereal? I am just wonder why Nestle came out with this pdt when I tot honey should not be given to babies below one year old? And also one website said it is not advisable even it has been processed as one of the ingredient with the cereal??? Any advise?

Hihi... so far EJ don't have constipation problem.. probably coz i have been training him to poo everyday since he is 2 months old..

but sometimes when i realised his poo poo is abit harder.. i will give him spinach, papaya (pure puree) or pear.. and it does help them with it..

and water is very important... if you baby doesn't like it.. maybe can try offering it several time .. like EJ.. i normally give him water using bottle and when he doesn't want it.. i will distract him abit and let him suck a few more mouthful.. if not give them during meal..coz EJ's cereal is not that watery now.. i realised he takes more water during meal...
normally he will finish the 125ml a day...

Hi everyone,
My bb girl is turning 7mths soon...have been silent reading this thread for awhile.
happy.gif

Just started giving my bb girl porridge so like to join in ur conversation on solid foods. Need some advice on how to make fruit puree and what other solids u all give to ur bb. Any good blender to recommend?

Rashes:
As my girl has eczema, so i've tried a few mosituriser and creams (including Cal bb calendula) but they all dun really work. A dermatologist prescribed physiogel AI cream for her. Its a moisturiser which works really well on her rashes. If ur bbs have norm rashes, i think it shld be able to help relieve the redness...The physiogel that u can get from pharmacies is "physiogel cream" (i think abt $16+) which according to a pharmacist at watsons, is more for adults, whereas "physiogel AI cream" is indicated for babies. I am not sure if it's really true but i stick to using the AI cream as prescribed by the skin doc though its more costly. Btw, AI cream can oni be purchased from dermatologists or National Skin ctr pharmacy or Changi Hospital Pharmacy. I got from CGH at $26.

Constipation: just inserted suppository for my bb girl 2 days ago due she nvr move her bowels for a week!!! urgghh. if i know glucose can help, i wld have opted for it. My heart sank when i inserted the supppository into her
sad.gif

My son doesn't have constipation problem either. He poos everyday although at every poo session, he does have to use plenty of energy!
Not sure if it's cos of the water? I feed him with water at every opportunity I get, in between playtime, when I bring him for his ride in his tricyle, during mealtime, after his milk etc...I guess it helps cos he will sip abit at everytime so eventually at the end of the day, he will drink about 140ml?

Aud,
Yes, I dont change the water. The cup come with a cover so I always cover it after feeding him. So far no problem. Sometime, I rinse the teat with hot water after giving him during mealtime cos the teat may have some of the food puree residue. So far, no problem. : )

Maybe you can try feeding baby with water using spoon? My maid does that after every meal. He will manage about 2-3 spoonfuls before he realise, its not food and then he will not drink.

JP,
For feeding bb water, when u are referring magic cup with soft spout with handle, may i know how does it works?

Issit just a hole at the spout whereby the water just flow out when the bottle is tilted?

Btw, anyone using Ceptaphil? I jus bot a Ceptaphil Gentle Cleanser and wonder whether is tat for bathing or not??!!

HI Klara's mummy

i also agree that Physiogel AI cream is very good, my PD recommended it and yes, for baby must use the one with AI.. my boy also have enzema.. i tried to switch to CB calendula cream and it did not help... his skin get more red.. so now back to AI cream. will have to get another tube soon....

mummies, any sippy cup or cup to recommended? i tried to spoon feed my boy water and he end up drinking little bit cos most of it flow out of his mouth... he does not drink water from bottle...

goldfish
have been using cetaphil for the kids since birth. but will switch to a bath and hair wash once they hit one year. i just add about 5-6 squirts of cetaphil into the bath water. no need to rinse off.

Hi Goldfish,
The avent soft spout is flat with 3 small holes (the one for 6mths). The good thing about this is that the water will flow only when the baby suck. Think baby at this age cannot handle those freeflow water spout so this is good since the water flow only when the baby suck. N cos the water will not spill when tilted, I will give it to my boy when he's sitted in his high chair and he will play with it and actually drink some water from it.This magic cup is suppose to help in the weaning process of transitioning from bottle to cup. So far, I only try it for the water. I still fed my boy using the normal bottle and teat for milk.

Hi cutiegal,
You can check out Avent Magic cup. U can check out the website www.philips.com/AVENT for more information

Crappy!

My original a/c's been suspended.. and i have to now login with this new username.. I'll get to the bottom with those moderators man!

New Mummies:

Hi to you, JP, Klara, Pei, Welcome!

Dear breadmum,

Perhaps you'd like to try to alter your little one's meal spread a little to curb the constipation. Give a fruit at every single solids meal- be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, for example: give little Ethan his milk first, followed by a fruity puree for breakfast, then at lunch time, offer him his usual savory (porridge or cereal) then offer the fruit after that, no need to mix into his main dish, same goes for dinner, babies love fruit, and are usually more willing to down it more readily than the usual savories. Scarlett is now accustomed to this 1 main dish, 1 dessert setting and poos 2- 3 times a day, without drinking extra water =P

One other ave of supplying my Lett with her fluids; I make vegetable, chicken or fish stocks and i'll feed them to her direct, like it is part of her meal, a main porridge, a soup and a dessert, play around if you may

Vary Ethan's diet daily, try not to feed him too much of anything in a straight week, try varying a cereal on monday, cod fish and carrots flake on tuesday, porridge on wednesday so on, I am sure this will help to get his bowels back in shape.

To minimise cooking work, steam and puree your apples or pears and put it in the fridge to last you a day, steaming neutralise the fruit acids and makes it more platable to the little ones, does not spoil as fast as if you leave it in the open.

My blog now has a few more new recipes you can try, let me know how it goes- xanga.com/meetscarlett

JP
CH is starting swimming this week. wish me best man, coz im handling two. first ch will swim, then half hour break then her brother swims...hope i will be alive after that :p

Dseptkon, are u using CETAPHIL GENTLE CLEANSER? I am using that , n i m unsure whether is that meant for bathing wor. Ah.. so that is the proper way of bathing with Cetaphil, just squeeze some into bathing water and tat’s it? I abit ‘mountain-turtle’ loh

JP, thanks for the explanation of the soft spout tingie. Make me tempted to get one tis week for my bb!!

Flos - the ntuc i've been has the Brown rice out of stock. The only place i found them is in carefour. I guess, this taught me a lesson to stick up.

Thanks all for your concerns. Little E says ' Thank you aunties':p

Kym Kym - aiyo so you had to reactivate your account. gosh. hey thanks for the tips. will give it a try.

Many thanks to all the mummies for your advices on water. Y'day my baby had watery stools. Don't whether it was due to HT Brown Rice cereals which has been opened slightly more than a month. She takes a long time to finish a box. How long does your baby take to finish a box?

Breadmum - will do. I will go get the Yoplait Vanilla and Banana. Only saw this at The Marketplace at Tanglin. NTUC sells this?

Kym Kym - can I have the link to your blog so that I can try your recipes out? Thanks.

goldfish
yes that is the one i have been using. the PD prescribed it for my FB cos he had sensitive skin when he was born and i also use it for Jon. it is not as sudsy as some of the other brands of baby wash. when i had PUPPP i used it myself, but i rubbed it like a body wash and then rinsed under cool water
happy.gif

kymkym
you had to reactivate your account? oh no! can i ask when u started the fish with scarlett. my MIL insists that i should not start fish with jon till at least 10 months?!! but i really want to start soon...

btw since he really hates porridge(like me), apart from ABC macaroni and cheesy baked potaotes, anyone has any other suggestions? bought a pack of millet but have not had the guts/ideas to try since Jon is a little allergic to bananas and avocado

Dear Aud,

My bloggie's http://www.xanga.com/meetscarlett, there are a myraid of recipes from preparing fish, porridge, purees etc :p

Dear breadmum,

Don't mention it dear!

Dear dseptkon,

Scarlett started fish at 6 months- beginning with cod fish, then trout, then japanese dried scallops, so far she has taken well to all of them, no development of allergies or refusal to consume. Fish is one of the least allegenic foods around, even more so than chicken or pork, and it is a good idea to introduce early so they don't get turn off by the fishy smell as they get older. Scarlett has also since moved on to minced pork, tofu with egg yokes, pig liver, bird's nest, almonds etc.

Hmm.. in my opinion, Porridges are convenient to cook, nutritious (depending on the ingredients you add) and easy to eat, perhas you'll like to vary the texture, or cook the porridge with a vegetable or chickn stock to increase the platability.. since they'll have to take porridge every now an somehow..

Other than that, try baked fish flakes, tofu-egg custards?

Aud
how much of the cereal do you feed per session?CH finish her HT in one week, twice a day nia. im moving on liaoz, but am getting lazy lah...

deseptkon
wow, jon sure has tried many diff foods?how old is he now?

ch still on cereal and since her appetite is ok, im taking a more textbook approach to her diet. will intro egg yolk as first meat, not fish. im paranoid when it comes to fish, very good food but the fish we have these days all come with trace amount of mercury and lead. and since bb still so small, im really paranoid.

btw do you go for free range when it comes to meat too?where do you usually get your organic stuff?delivery?
