Dear all.

My hubby is working but i don't think it's enough for all of us (me, him,#1,dog), he also intend to further his studies in NUS after his dip.

Maybe working part time is can work. Telling my boss, she's been a really unreasonable person since e start of my career here, don't think it will be any gd. Currently i'm looking for jobs since i'm just few wks pregnant.

Looking for MP can do what help? Get me a job? Or helping me financially?

bebe
apply for financial aid if your household combined income is very low. can get ntuc vouchers, utilities rebates, etc...
or if you are jobless, they will update you if there are any job fairs

Jess

yes, my bday is tmr. Thanks. But right nw, i think it's the most depress bday i'm going to have.

Even if i listen to your and carry on. I think it'll be very tough. As a mum, i noe they r innocent.. I just hope i can support my Mr sometimes n feel more secure..

my hubby is currently working, but working attitude isnt really gd, he's working pt now. but always go for work late etc, hence e low pay.

But thinking of having a tummy n fighting jobs with others seems like impossible to me.

bebe
ask yourself: it is tough yes i agree, but is this possible?
if you have any doubts of the direction you have to take in life, you just ask yourself 1 very simple question: is this possible?
if you answer is yes, this is possible; then i dont think why you cant do it. dont say "impossible" immediately even without trying.
like i said again - resiliency is the key word.

cheer up!

I'm very confuse nw. keeping might make everyone suffer. dun keep i felt guilty too. It's really a bad time nw.. even hubby tell me to abort. hw am i going to bear it alone?

bebeyan, we r not pressuring u to keep the child, we hope u will not live with regrets if u chose to absort. some mummies live with the guilt all their life... u hav to ask urself r u able to take such guilt n torment?

$ can always be earned, i hope ur family is willng to help u financially

bebeyan
Have a good talk to your hubby first, you are not standing alone. I think ur hubby also wants the baby, just that he put u to first priority.

mom2nat
Thanks. My boy normally sleep from 1-4 or 2-5. We can arrange a playdate.. any other timings? lol

Kitsune,
Think i am also looking at maid with such biodata.. thanks for the info.. more or less know what else I need to look out for.

bebeyan,
Right now you might think that keeping the baby will make everyone suffer...yes, maybe the initial 1-2 years will be hard but when your #2 turns 1 or 2 years old, I can guarantee you will be looking at him/her and telling yourself it was right to keep the baby
happy.gif
Have to work harder and endure a bit of hardship now but the rewards are never-ending lor...the joy and newborn brings to the family.

Jess/Pixie/Icy,
Actually it's quite difficult to engage all the kids in class cos every kid is different and all have their own likes and dislikes. Just like my boy, he enjoys the singing/rhymes during class but doesn't enjoy story-telling, so he'll wander off or do some "funny thing". Same with chinese lesson, he doesn't like the teacher cos he find her voice too high-pitched and too drama, so he'll swtich off as well. But come art & craft time, all the kids will crowd round the teacher and sit quietly to observe what needs to be done...it's amazing how well they can focus when it's something they enjoy.

Re: Plan E
Not realistic leh...everyday go hi-tea ah? Maybe will enjoy if it's just for 1-2 months but after that will become very bored cos nothing to do.

agreed with aqua, stand up and be firm. there is nothing we mummies cannot do. if some mummy can move a stationery truck to freed her child pinned by the truck, why not us?
we are all superwoman if we want to be hohoho

Thanks everyone for the support and advice. I will talk to hubby again tonight and see hw it goes.. Really glad to met your here 2yrs back.

yvonne
lol, how you know B finds her voice too high pitched? he told you that?

aiyoh just now myfirstskool told me wef 2010, fees increased. after subsidy is $288 for half day, $315 for full day.
very bo hua for half day leh hor

pixie,
I know becos since young, he'll walk away from anyone who talks in a high-pitched voice and acts very drama with him...LOL...my auntie is one of them. You know those china teachers all talk loudly and super-drama...hahaha...he hates it!

Oh yah, half-day cc not any cheaper than full day so not worth it. Actually it's becos most of the lessons are in the morning and pm is usually for naps and play mah.

yvonne
damn farni leh. hes like an adult. maybe he got too good hearing liao? kids usually have wider range of hearing mah

Yvonne,
Most of our tods like singing hor. Yes, agree, if it's something they like/enjoy, they can focus well and do it for a long time, like never get bored of it. I just bought another simple 12-piece puzzle for my boy, he did it and did it and did it for don't know how many times :)

issit? then i enrol my boy for am liao coz i still dunno must am or pm?
correct hor, if pm, bring him there to go to sleep from 12-3 like wasting my $$.......might as well let him sleep at home mah rite. i never thought of that leh thanks for reminding haha

Bebe yan,
Hope you are able to sort it out with your hubby. I'm sure with his support, you will def feel better. Hugz to you ;) Nobody will blame you on whatever decision you choose. Dun give yourself too much stress.

Would you like to check the MOM website for more info? Thot employers can't juz dismiss staff that are pregnant? If they do so, they will still need to compensate. There shld be some guidelines.

jess
should be, but not now...next year after his bday. hopefully by then he is toilet trained?
must slowly bluff my hb and mil thats its playgroup.
actually is playgroup wat. just different naming convention heehee

Bebe yan,
How many more mths to complete your probation? You have cleared your health screening for this new job rite? Which mean they still dunno you are preggy rite. Why not you keep silent on your pregnancy first & inform them after your probation if possible? At least, you are still employed for the meanwhile. Take 1 step & walk 1 step first ;) You still got another 8-9mths to go. Dun tink they can see your tum tum so soon, saw your blog before, you are very slim one, heehee ;p Not teaching you to cheat them but if they so nasty to dismiss you if you tell them the news then dun tell first ba. At least can earn a few more mths milk powder $$ rite.

pixie,
There you go! You find the perfect solution - just tell them it's playgroup, not childcare. In fact, HR's school also called his class as "playgroup". Infant -> Playgroup -> Pre-school -> Kindergarden

Bebeyan, I remember you too. My friend who's delivering in Jan10 just started on her new job at MAS last week. Don't worry, some employers are still employing esp the govt linked ones. As long as you are at least 3 months preggie, your existing company needs to pay maternity benefits if you quit/retrenched I think. My friend was worried about being retrenched from her previous company too so she die die lun after after the first trimester and got her new contract before telling her previous company that she is preggie. In the end, she went for interview and got accepted by MAS so she needs to work at least 90 days at MAS before delivering and she'll be entitled to full maternity leave. She told me two of her friends who are preggie also found jobs so think job market not so bad. :p

Don't want to give you pressure but abortion can lead to lifelong guilt. Money can be tight but since this is your no. 2, not so many things you need to buy. Can get hand me downs, cheapest diapers etc, get your mum to help you in the beginning. Most mums won't leave their children in the lurch especially when they know that you are really in financial distress. When things improve, then pay your mum back. I think your hubby only asked you to abort cos that was your first decision which he initially objected but seeing you unhappy, maybe he feels that if he lets you abort, you won't be depressed anymore.

Icy, jia you on the maid hunting. Can be very pek chek dealing with a maid though. Must keep reminding myself to look at the bigger picture. ;P

JanBB

Mid Dec probation will b over. I dun intend to tell them nw also.. they didnt ask me go health screening also, even if they did cant check anything also cos tat time i'm not pregnant also.

Pauline

You mean after i'm 3 mths preggie, if my coy sack me they still have to pay me 4mths maternity pay?

Thanks, hearing stories of your friends did make me think it is possible. I have to discuss with my mum n hubby again tonight..

Thanks all again.

Bebeyan, this is what my friend told me but you better check with MOM to clarify. Anyway, if you have a will, there is a way (天无绝人之路) so don't give up. Jia You!

bebe_yan,
Think different company has different guideline. I think MOM will say we "advise" the employer to do this and that, but eventually as long as the employer meet the minimum requirement, then it's ok.

For example, for my company, an employee is required to have serve the company for 6 months before she gets pregnant to enjoy the maternity benefits.

You should get all this info from your staff handbook, no?

kam
i think not all company have handbook. like my current company. nothing at all. never even did health check up for me b4 i joined~... hahahaa

Bebe,
I am not very sure either but I think you need to serve the company for at least 90 days then you are entitled the maternity benefits. If more than 90 days and your company dismiss you for your pregnancy, they will have to pay for your 4 mths maternity. Better to check with MOM.

Icy
Another time is in the am, ard 830am to 10am. Cos he takes his lunch ard 10am. Hee... But somedays we are out, so gotta see when lor.
Does he go for playgroup now? Parent accompanied kind?

Bebeyan,

I got the link from MOM for you. Hope that you can keep the baby. Take care.

Q: What are the changes that have been made to Maternity Leave?
A:

With effect from 31 October 2008:

a) Paid maternity leave will be for up to 16 weeks (previously 12 weeks). For the first two confinements, the first eight weeks of maternity leave will continue to be employer-paid. The last eight weeks will be funded by the Government (capped at $10,000 per 4 weeks i.e. $20,000 per confinement including CPF contributions). For the third and subsequent confinements, the full 16 weeks will be funded by the Government (capped at $10,000 per 4 weeks i.e. $40,000 per confinement including CPF contributions). The last 8 weeks may be taken flexibly within a 12-month period from the birth of the child.

b) To qualify for maternity leave benefits, the mother must have worked for at least 90 days with the employer (previously 180 days).

c) Maternity leave benefits will be payable even if the pregnant employee is retrenched within the last 3 months of pregnancy.

d) Maternity leave benefits will be payable even if the pregnant employee is dismissed without sufficient cause within the last 6 months of pregnancy*.

e) Mothers will be able to claim maternity leave payment from all their employers if they work for more than one employer at the same time.

*Includes termination of employment with or without notice.

Employers will be required to grant the additional maternity leave to their employees after 31 October 2008 when the legislative amendments take effect. In the transitional period, they are encouraged to grant such leave from 17 August 2008.

kam,
Re: night feeds
yes, i fed my girl EBM at night too cos she got latching probs. During the day i warm up the EBM with warmer cos it's better to warm up the milk gradually, kills less nutrients.

for night feed, bo pian cos like u said bb will get angry so I use boiling water in a cup to warm up the milk. I don't use a thermal flask cos i find the water not hot enough. I have those airports where the water is kept at constant temp. Then in between i will change water once to speed up the warming up process.
i timed b4 it takes abt 2-3 mins to warm up the milk this way.

to save more time, i also measure out the milk ready in the feeding bottle and leave in the fridge so when bb wake up i just take out straight from fridge into hot water. don't need to pour, measure etc

pixie / grumpus,

Thanks re warming up EBM. I have picked up a few tips from you. Of course I prefer latching cos less work mah. I asked because my hubby offered to do night duties, but I don't think he can do it 心有余而力不足 :)

Morning, Aqua :)

Not that early lah, arrived office at 8.30am, wanted to be earlier so can go home earlier. But have to send 2 kids now to 2 different places, very time consuming de leh.
