(2008/01) Jan 2008 MTBs

So much problems about how to settle our kids in CC or ILs etc... I still have 2 more mths to return back to workforce but I still have no developments on my maid's search!!! Asked SIL to help to find. Got a few biodata and none looks satisfactory. Also my fault lah. I am the one who is not keen on maid so I am not aggressively looking for one. Leave this task to my hubby's family to look and handle. I know it is bad but I am really not keen on that idea. I also secretly hope that by Dec, we still could not find a maid and I will have to send my girl to mum's place as Plan B. Plan C will be finding a CC for my girl. Plan D will be SAHM!!! But seriously I think Plan D will not happen lah. I am still not ready to give up my yearly travel plans. How I wish my hubby is rich enough for me to be SAHM and yet I can just leave my kids @ CC and be "tai tai". Hahahaha...

jess
sounds like stage and such muahahahhaha!
means teacher not engaging enuff lor...must be very kua zhang kind to engage the children one lah, imho

krystle
that will be plan E: be SAHM, leave kids at CC, be tai-tai, go hi-tea.
only few mummies here are on plan E leh

jess
My playgroup now is like that. Main thing is when 1 kid start running around, the others start to follow.. then it get very messy. I am consider Carpe Diem cos my opp block have one, but I havent go and research. The maid stuff already made me very sianz. Agency tell me if no room, the maid wont stay long.. tell me partition my living room.. ~faint

pixie
maybe lor.. tats y quite relunctant to send him back to the CC.
any suggestions wat i shld do?
1. Continue to go
2. Stay at home, Find a new maid when old one goes home
3. Find another CC
4. ask my mother to take care...

Pixie,
Which mummies are already on Plan E? I hope to achieve Plan E before I turn 36 leh (3 years' time). But very funny, I got some colleagues/ex-coll whose family is very well to do. They are already in their 40s and kids already grown up. But they still want to work. If I were them, I will rather be "tai tai" leh.

icy
hmm, very ma fan hor. hire 1 person like make our lives so difficult. maybe u go recce and see Carpe Diem lor. make a few trips, see how the kids behave and the teachers behave. haha, error on my part for nt monitoring so much on this when i went to visit the CC. i only keep thinking convenience convenience convenience~

Pixie,
Plan E! I think when kids older go primary school then more possible.

Krystle,
I suppose those mummies wanna have their own earning power, can buy whatever they want w/o hubby questioning.

krystle, nowdays women want financial freedom and independence. if u dun wor, u mus get $ from ur hubby, ur hubby become 'ur boss'

jess,
yeah mil keep say convenience too, cos end up they might be the one bringing him there when I do confinement and all.

Yah.. hire one maid already mafan to consider abt whether they are good or not. Then here comes other family members who is not making things easier for me. Worse of all, I suppose to have a empty room, cos sil scare of ghost and sleep with mil at night. But she refuse to let maid bunk in her room at night. Hb is not helping, still siding them.

krystle
now is the time for us to be on plan E coz first 10 years i think is very important. kids grown up liao i sure want to go back to workforce like your colleagues. foundation laid liao mah

jess
i would find another cc
who knows if i (jess) get preggy, at least #1 is settled for, no need to mad rush mah
else i will settle for your choice#2. at least i know i can coach my children to the best as i can

sometimes really wonder y we have to consider so many things when we just have to make 1 decision. consider so many ppl de feelings~... hahahaa.. arent we wonderful mummies?
happy.gif

pixie,
Haha no ghost, just that I have a tomboyish sil who happens to be so timid abt such things. She have to switch on the lights when sleeping.. 16 yrs old already.

Jess,
Well said!

Jess,
I haven't been there to observe how they run the playgroup. But as what I observed from the kids behaviour, I can tell the teachers are pretty good, they are able to engage kids to join the activities. For example, not only HR, but most of the kids love singing and they can sing! And I can tell most (almsot all) the kids are pretty happy attending the school.

For me, what's the "brand" of the cc is not important at all. Most important is the teachers. Even the programs are not that important. A good teacher is what the kids need.

If you remember, I complained about one of the teachers when HR just promoted to playgroup. I think after one month, the teacher was gone! Not only me, but other parents complain about that teacher also. I was so happy that time, cos I was seriously thinking of switching him to another cc at that time because of that teacher.

Pixie, my gal's playgroup only 2 hours. 9 - 11am. Usually, they have a different timetable for different days. Must admit I didn't bother to remember all the different timetable though they did pin it on the wall. For me, it's more important that she enjoys the place and learn to socialise. Learning some ABC or words will be bonus. ;)

Something like this:
9-915am Parents bring their kids to wash hands with dettol liquid soap. Reach classroom, teacher will take temperature, check hands and feet. Kids who are early - Free play until all the kids arrive. (they have 3-4 toyogo boxes of toys, different themes eg. musical instruments, kitchen play sets, wooden blocks, etc)
- After that, all the kids got to help and keep the toys.
Music and Movement (songs and dancing)
Play group games (eg. follow the leader etc)
Watch Educational VCDs
Monday - Outdoor activities (ie. go to the playground)
Not sure which day - Colouring and painting
Fri - Dough play (using food colouring and flour dough)
10-1020am Tea break (including teacher to clean up the tables and floor)
Arts and crafts
Activity worksheets
Goodbye routine (sing Barney 'I Love you' song - where the teacher hugs all the kids, and ' Moshi Moshi Anone' where the kids bow and say goodbye)

Icy, you want to try my maid agency (Colin, 90026977). They said ok to let the maid sleep in the living room cos I don't have enough rooms as well. When I interviewed my maid via phone, I also told her she won't have her own room. If baby arrives, she may need to sleep in the living room.

pixie / grumpus

Ask you 1 question about EBM - for night feeds, did you give your baby bottle also? If yes, then how did you warm up the milk in time for baby and he/she didn't get angry waiting for the milk? Use a warmer?

kam
yes, bottle all the way. i use those thermal cup - just nice to fit in a bottle. when i know its ard the time for feeding, i will pre-warm it. i never invest in those bottle warmer leh.
to speed up the process, i throw a super thick squarish towel over the cup/bottle. the heat + thermal + thick towel usually warms up ebm in 3 mins time. my fridge very cold coz empty empty one leh.

sorry ask kam/mylvera/kitsune and mummies who have their kids in cc:
what should i look out for when i go "inspecting" a cc aka surprise visit ah?
what time is the best?

Hi all

Been so busy this morning and finally is lunch and hv some time catching up posts here. Wow.. all about cc and mil hor. Most will think that our mother is the best to handle our own child compared to MIL. but I do not think so leh cos my mum has all along been a working mum and never take care of my siblings and me. My 3 siblings are 13, 11 & 9 yrs older than me and they are all taken care by my aunt and I'm taken care by my siblings !

so now my mum has retired and will help look after my children with maid ard but I dun like my mum's style of handling children at all. ARGHH... so I want to put them in cc very soon as long there are vacancie.

I am on waiting list in YWCA, My First Skool, YMCA & Hui Min Dev centre. You see how KS am I ? hahahaha

Pixie
it's ok to have evil thoughts once in a while :p:p:p

kitsune,
Thanks for telling me that. Made me relieve that it can be done. lol. So you got a fili maid. What kind of biodata did u specially look out for?
Other than knowing how to take care of newborn?

Kam,
I made milk only when baby demand for it initially using hot water in thermal flask, when milk get more then I use warmer. At first bb will cry but slowly they are used to the wait.. Perhaps also becos I still use pacifier.

Pixie, last time I went to observe 9-10am and left when the kids are having their teabreak. Another time, I went from 10 to 11am to see what they do after tea break. I just went to observe how they deal with crying kids (the new ones), the naughty kids, those who hide under the table and those who insist on standing up when watching VCD etc and when they brought the kids to the playground, do they really keep an eye on them etc.

Icy, yes, can be done but must be discreet. If you can, get a portable screen to separate the living room a bit. Though I didn't do that. The maid's belongings put in the storeroom unless the daily necessities, put into a toyogo box/drawer. Mattress can buy those foldable type and keep in the storeroom, at night then take out. If she needs to change, change in the common toilet. Having said that, my maid only slept in the living room for a few nights when I started sleep training RaeAnne. In the end, she still moved back to RaeAnne's room cos hubby was afraid she'll flip around on her bed and fall down. :p

I looked for maids who are married with kids but not very young kids (in case they are too homesick). My agent advised not getting those very young unmarried ones because he has 2 kids aged 21 months and 3 years plus. He changed maids 3 times so far. He said the young ones get overwhelmed with looking after 2 kids cos they don't have any kids themselves. But my maid is afraid to look after NB, initially she didn't want to come. But she changed her mind, maybe because I'm a SAHM and a CL (whom she can learn the ropes from) or because she kenna scolding from the recruiter for being so picky. Haha.

pixie/icy,
Thanks. Am thinking should I continue to latch my baby or give bottles all the way. Maybe wait a bit longer and see how well I fix in to my working schedule.

pixie,
Things to look out for when sourcing for cc:
- firstly, go and see a few cc and compare, then you know what you want and how well your expectations can be met.
- ask how long the teachers have work in that cc. Longer means the teachers are happy working there and hence likely they provide better care to the kids.
- ask if the teachers are married with kids or singles. Prefer experienced mum. Those young ones lack of exp.
- see if the kids are happy there or just stone there.
- see the teachers are happy or grumpy.
- get to talk to the teachers whom your kid will be cared under. See if you like her and can trust her or not.
- ask about meal schedule. To me, having proper meals are more important than the activities, cos every centre is doing similar activities.

Basic thing - you must like to place and trust the teachers. If you don't, don't send your kid there.

Try to avoid sleeping time. Other time is ok to visit.

Dear all

Maybe your have forgotten me. I used to chat here with your when we are pregnant.

Currently having some problem, hope to hear some advice from you. Really depress now.

hello bebeyan of coz we remember you

jess
no hot topics liao lah. just now sat under the HOT blazing sun to enjoy a good read with my book - so now yes, very hot haha
talking about hot
what is your #1 soft drink? only can give 1 answer.

i think i'm pregnant with #2 now. Guess only few wks, less than a month.

But now is nt a gd time cos i'm still under probation on my job and is very unstable cos my cols have been asked to leave also.

Hubby is still schooling, hence pay nt very high so don't think he can support me if i lose my job. And your noe, when tummy is big nobody will employ also.

No job means no maternity. Intially i tot of abortion, n Hubby dun agree. But now bcame e other way, bcos Hubby seeing me getting more n more depress he asked me to abort.

What shall i do?

pixie
how come u sit under the hot sun to read book?? hiyo... stay in office mah~...

u mean wat is our fav soft drink ah? hmmm..... i love colourless drink... so its sprite and 7up~... hahahaa

kam
thanks for sharing your inputs. means must take leave or what to go recce liao

abt nite feeding. usually mummies i know (especially those mummies whom are my milkbags customers) will latch at nite coz ez to sleep, no need wash etc etc. if you have no prob latching, why switch? i fell bottle feed only coz of latching prob mah
suckle and both go promptly to sleep. very shiokz leh

bebe yan, r u financially v tight? if reali been asked to go, i tink u can still do part time or temp . most important is ur hubby n family supprt

Icy
COngrats on having a princess!!
Wat do you do on weekdays? maybe can come over for a playdate someday, Usually ard 3 to 5pm is ok
happy.gif

aqua

yes, financially tight. but when i'm on confinement then there will b no income from myself. My hubby seeing my behavior asked me to abort. I dun feel it's a support at all.. Tats y i'm so depress.

Jess
I bought some kit from Babydust spree sometimes back, so i tested 3 times. all r positive..

bebe yan
if i never remember wrongly, ur daughter is taken care by ur mum then u staying with ur in laws rite?
i knw things are getting tough. should really sit down and talk to ur hubby and family to see if things can be worked out. if yes, of cos we will encourage u to keep the baby~

bebe yan, cngrats, i tink u might be experiencing preggie blues? prb ur hormones is causing u to be depressed, pls b strong... bb can feel ur emotions.

jess
when i lunch alone, if i bring any book along to work, then i will da bao lunch at the chap chye png from blk 26 (in between the 2 coffeeshops) and walk over to prime playground. sit down, eat my pkt lunch, drink h2o, then read for a good half hr. today hot but i enjoyed it, got strong breeze, i like the sun and sit down kind of life.

bebe
i would keep if i were you, no matter how tough life is, still must be a strong mummy
my sis oso lost her job when she was abt to give birth and she just found a job, now back to work liao. so not all employers dont want to hire you if you are preggy.
tok to your superior/manager about this possibility aka i might be pregnant, will you sack me? sometimes honesty is the best policy. rather than management discover and get angry and sack you, sit down and discuss your future with the company lor
baby is in your stomach, no one can force you to abort.
seek assistance from MP if you really very hard up lor. my sis is going to do that too

i agree with pixie, as mummy, we shld all try to keep and protect our babies.

my colleague was also 3 mthss preggie when she joined a new co, however, she was not entitled to any maternity leave aft she joined the co.

oooh. so u r one of the loyal customers for that stall. cos me and my hubby always wonder how come got 3 chap chye png stalls... but all can survive... especially the one in between .... heeheee...

Jess & Aqua

Yes, i'm e one u r referring. My mum say she's ok to help me take care but she's worried abt my job stability too.

My concern is i'm afraid i will lose my job or can't find another job. After giving birth, might face financial difficulties too.

I also wish to keep it and have a carefree pregancy period. But i felt so stressful and depress now. My tears are forming every few minutes.

Bebe,
I hope abortion is the very last option. It is not that baby is not healthy or gynae advises so... If you ask me, I think should keep the baby. Things will work out fine.

Actually, I used to be in a similar condition when preggy with #1. I just landed on my current job and then realised that I was 6 wks preggy then. Also confused on what to do and worried about the $$$. Then decided to just tell my mgr before my probation and if they ask me to leave then let it be. Then will most probably return to workforce after delivery. But I am lucky that I had an understanding mgr and my co is very family oriented. Hence I continue to work until now and already delivered my #2 just last mth.

Like what Aqua said, maybe can do some part time or just these few mths for a break. It is not that you are going to be SAHM from now onwards.

i totally agree with other mummies.

must stay strong for ur baby's sake. u can do it de. although its tougher than b4, but definitely there will be a way out.

jess
this one is the cheapest, 3 kinds of vege for $2...i dunno leh, last time eat lots of vege rice now eat lesser liao then my sweat is very sour-ish...haiz...or isit i drank too much chinese tea (in excessive)?

bebe
you are really not alone, my sis went thru the yo-yo feelings too but eventually we told her that no matter what, give birth to her #2 first and anything that needs $$ we will try to chip in. i hope you have a supportive family too yah. i always tell my sis the same line - "boat towards bridge will be naturally straightened" haha...
she oso 1 income only. she has been taking care of her #1 and #2 on her own income only and her pay is really peanuts....
my point is, i've seen real life cases of resiliency so you must be resilient too for your 2 children. no matter how tough it is, our children come first.

Bebe,
Maybe your hubby can also helped by doing some part time job while he is schooling? Will he be graduating soon? If yes, then just bear with it during this period?
