(2007/11) November MTBs

tinkabel: I think there are some good suggestions by the mummies here and what you take up should tie in with what you want for Matt. If you want a place for him to socialise with other kids, then maybe playgroup may be more suitable (though it costs much more in terms of $/hour). Alternatively, if you want him to be more independent, then a childcare/school environment may be more appropriate.

Haven't looked at Agapeland unfortunately, but its really important that you're comfortable with the childcare arrangement. Perhaps you should make a shortlist of schools to visit when you're back in Singapore in April to get a better sense.

Poissons: Like K@ye mentioned, teacher/student ratio is impt. as is teaching method and how the day is planned. I also ask about how they maintain cleanliness and how they monitor for sick children. Its also good to observe how G reacts to the environment and if he is at ease with the place. =) I'll be going down around 2pm plus. Hope to see you there...

tinkabel,
I PM u my number already.
I am thinking of sending my boy to JG Play Club Mandarin classes at Forum once he reaches 18 mth, anyone has experience with JG?
But its only twice a week, 2hr so maybe when u r back in Sin for ML, you can consider this. Anyway, the term is only 10 weeks, just right for ML right?

mummies,
any furniture place to share?
i looking to buy a table and chair for ashlyn.
i hope the chair is very stable becos my little girl horrible one, will climb up and down. i think those mummies who go PDS will know. =p

tinkabel:issit?but we hc pay slips mah...never state not for overseas workign mums le.......ya let me know too le

tks tks

Grace, IKEA cheap n good! Heheh, i bought a table + 2 chairs for $45. Claire also like to climb up & down lah...

Grace, its ok to let them 'flip'. once or twice aft they will learn..wahahaa.. now M can lift her backside onto the Ikea stoll effortlessly.
I also think Ikea furniture is the best for kids, esp the plastic ones. cos dirty can jus bring to the bathroom n rinse. morever no sharp edges.

Attempted child kidnap at Toa Payoh Central!

Today, my dad and I brought my 2 kids to the Toa Payoh central. I
went to deposit money in the bank and my dad brought my children to
play the "floor stepping game". There were only 2 of them
playing there and my dad was standing about 1meter away watching
them. My dad told me that a aunty hold my girl hand and drag her away, saying "come we go home liao".

My dad didn't stop her immediately. He wanted to see what she is going to
do. When she dragged my girl about 4 steps, my dad came and stopped
her. This time she showed her true colors - she din know my dad was my girl's grandfather. She told him " sorry I'm in a hurry, need to go home" & kept dragging my girl. My dad stopped her again and told her she was his grandchild. Another woman came and pretended to scold the aunty who was dragging my girl away & then went in to the NTUC supermarket. Be careful as this might happen to any children. Always keep an eye on ur children when u bring them out.

Be carefull my dear friends

we bought high chair for Aidan @ KP. The chair can change to table and chair, so he can use it now. I like to sit, i think because is easy to climb.

weishy, wow thats a scary incident. My goodness. i m worried too cos my girl is super daring kind, will leave with strangers. when we go out, i dun really like to let her walk ard, rather put her in pram or carrier.

for boys clothes, let me see if i hv any. mostly given to my SIL's son liao. i ask her if she has any that he outgrew, maybe can pass to u.

Tinkabel: When you choose the PG, if u r, do be careful with teacher or teacher asst. Some PGs says thay have 1 - 8 ratio but they can take in 16 as they have 2 adults. Ask if both the adults are DPT trained, I can only say there could be a difference.

I check on the following for my baby:
- go and see if u like the place.
- figure what's most important for your child. E.g. I want J to have different type of outdoor play on a daily basis, and there must be enough area when they run outdoors. Some of the 2 hrs programme do not offer outdoor play.
- food: what do they serve? Look at the menu closely. For me, I intend to visit at lunch time for at least 2 weeks, to see if they follow the menu submitted to MCYS.
- Teachers: ask them how long the teachers been working there. Turnover rate etc.
- Age of the centre: how many years under this management. Sometimes, the centre has been there for a long time, but has switched management.
- What they teach and how they teach. You should also have a preference before asking.
There's project based approach, thematic, montessori, hands on, so many... so u gotta know wat u like 1st.
- I am also putting J in half day though the FD is just $100 + xtra, cos I do not need him to shower and nap @ school yet. I still think that a balance between school and home is most ideal if it's within the parent's means.
I've seen children who are in CC from 6.50 am to 7.00pm, as their parents work far away (Jurong Island). But they have no help at home.

Children in CC are far more independent. This is one thing I like.

k@ye, I wanna buy balloons for my son's BD too! He like balloons! Let me know, ok? TIA.

Chairs: Agree with MM on chairs.. hahaha.. they will learn after accidents happen.

Ladies: I cant go for the durian feast liao, cos my colleague needs to go on leave to write her Master's thesis. So, thesis is more impt than buffet. Hahaha Enjoy!

Poissons: How did you find LSH? I'm a little disappointed that the management as changed. I preferred the previous principal to the current one. The half day class is currently full too so looks like I have no choice but to look for alternatives now. =(

Hallo ladies!

Bought Claire to the PD yesterday for her MMR + 5 in 1 jab.

Buey tahan her, she was crying like nobody's biz when the PD gave her the injection. The moment, the PD gave her the biscuits, she immediately laughed!

Even the PD finds her funny!

K@ye:usually i;ll prepare those biscuits already.....give straight after kab so she only "ar" no "arrr arrr arr " :p

will chk on ur spree....give me some time k

weishy,
told my hb abt the attempted kidnap @ TPY ystdy.
he said even in broad-daylight these grp of 'aunties' so daring n even got accomplice to 'help' them escape!! and i thot these incidents are only common in BKK and not our own backyard!!!

gosh, really gotta hold on tight to our little ones!!

smilemum,
thanks for sharing as some of the issues you mentioned actually was not on my 'questionaire' to the CC which i intend to put C in when she reaches 18m.
but then again, sometimes have to give n take a little coz there's no PERFECT CC.
will probably give them a call again soon to double check on those issues i missed out!
happy.gif

On the balloons spree, take ur time lah... Me also have not decided what to buy yet! haha!

Weishy, the PD said we all evil... Coz we told Claire that she is in for more before the jab and laughing evily... She was already crying when the doc examined...

michviv,
I went after you guys left cos' I asked the teachers
happy.gif
Personally I was quite disappointed with 1) the principal - she looked too young to be one and she seemed only interested to tell us about the school curriculum and after that just left us to chit chat with the rest of the teachers. 2) the teachers - some of them seem a tad too young, I was asking one chinese teacher about her curriculum and teaching method and she couldn't really explain to me 3) the environment - too small and 2 classes are actually not enclosed, so i forsee distractions. 4) waterplay - was quite shocked that their waterplay is actually done in the TOILET and it's so miserable..4-5 persons per day 5) some minor stuff..

I was more impressed with Agape at NTU Alumni Club though, spent about 1.5hrs there, but we felt that their fees are quite high, so still considering. Where else are you checking out?

Weishy, a question from my Mum to calm her down... She asked whether is it ok for Claire to take a 13hr flight wor?

My HK Auntie went & scared her abt the air pressure & stuff.. Which i almost fainted coz Claire has taken 6 flights liao.

hihi, brought Ashlyn for the trial class at GUG. Verdict.. quite sucky. Teacher is very strict abt rules - 1 parent, hp must be off, cannot talk to other parents in class, no eating on the mat. ah yoh. and must change room. have to carry kids to music room then back to the activity room. Wash area 4 basins only. very squeezy. no snack too!
and then as usual ash go sit on chair, they dont look happy. and ash angry want to carry, the teacher still ask me whats wrong with her.........

pengz... maybe its one of the teacher. anyway they didnt even bother to ask if we want to continue class. also i was late for 10mins, they make me pay at the entrance first before i can go in. i was like wah lao..... i wont run mah...
in conclusion -- SUCKs.... we too pampered at PDS.
the only thing i like is the zoophonics and tats abt all.....

kaye,weishy,
your tots are the frequent flyer... can u give some advise? i bringing Ashlyn to Taiwan...wat should i bring on the plane in case she panic?

btw, i got her a table and bench liao... =) from WTS.

Poissons, WTS => Want to Sell thread!
happy.gif

Grace, show the pictures of the table & bench... Actually if i hv the budget, i will buy the table & chairs as those in the PD's clinic... Light & wont flip that easily!

Well, bring fave food & toys of Ashlyn to make sure that it can sustain her interest for 5hrs of flight... If Ashlyn is a good gal, she will at least sleep 1-2 hours. Oh, last resort (for me), let her walk up & down the asisle lor...

If not, u can ask PD whether got any medication to knock her out... I forgotten to ask abt that from my PD.

Grace,
Me too brght E to attend the GUG trial class in Suntec. Personally i thot it's not bad. Yes, the rules are strict but i thot most of such classes are like tat, except for a few like PDS which allow both parents in:) Poor me, i was standing outside the room for 1.5 hr to see and learn what they taught in class so i can recite with him aft the lesson.

I like the zoophonics too, my nephew who attended GUG 2 years ago can still recite it very well. I guess this also slowly help to transit them to the toddler class in 2 months time.

Just wanna let E attend such classes and get him used to the concept of class, teachers, friends, etc before i send him to CC few months down the road.

Hey, u're going to Taiwan? When? Me too, am planning for a HK/Macau trip in April.

MM/Weishy & Tinkabel: Any advise on HK? Where to stay, etc? TIA.

kaye,
i think u must have seen before. the little tikes table and bench. Join together one... so that she wont pull the chair in and out etc... i will load pics on her blog tonite... haahaa been lazy and tired.

as for the flight, i will go ask doc see got medicine to knock out or not. see how loh. otherwise i will let her exercise alot at the airport so that she will sleep in the plane.

catusnah,
yah, i only like the zoophonics. as for the rules...haahaaa as i said, pampered by PDS loh.
which teacher did u get? i think the teacher makes alot of difference. yap, taiwan in May.....
going lasik in 10 days time... so scared!!

Oh, i think i know which table + bench... I wanted to get it from WTS but i think its quite bulky & takes up space so din buy lor!

Some of my colleagues even suggested cough syrup to knock out the kids... Haha... I need to ask my PD for the knock out medication soon if not my Mum will be exhausted... 13hours of flight! No joke!

Even i also can't tahan for 4 hours flight with her alone!

Grace, my storeroom.. No place to store things... So everytime, i buy something must think TWICE! And i realised, alot of stuff are Claire's toys! Hehee...

K@Ye:me ching on the spree now har...time time kk?

They re taking the afternoon flight to London lah.. I think worse come to worse, my Mum will let Claire be a free range chicken on the flight lor!

Haha, i can imagine 1st class having babies/children... Okie, will let my Mum know!
happy.gif

Poissons: What's your budget ah? Are you looking at full day or half day care? I and hubby have decided to postpone E's childcare till he is 2 years old. In the meantime, will be sending him to JG's bilingual playclub. As for childcare, I'm trying to source for other centres with half-day care/flexi options. Now looking at Little Village on the grange (for flexi care), Cherie Hearts and The Children's place.

missA: Have you visited Milk and Honey? Any thoughts?

Flt travel:eek:h ya.....actually the best rule will be travel time.....eg.11 to 1pm is their nap time.....departure time is as close as possible cos they're too tired and will doze off after milk/meal.

HAyley so far does that....sleep thru from departure till arrival.....when ppl start takign their bags then she wakes up :p

Dun expect airline to provide anything except hot water....cos usually they dun hv any to offer....pieces of fruits/bread...maybe
happy.gif

canned bb food....our little ones already pass that stage so..... no need to ask too....children play kits inflt...depending on sirline...cx hv but more for bigger kids.....no harm having it cos the bag is of use and hv crayons/colour pencils inside....so can keep them entertained for at least 30 mins...i hope
happy.gif

walking on around the cabin......depends la........when crew are in service.....not advisabel
happy.gif
disturbance and if got turbulence then stuffs may fall on u .....hope not la(but it happens......foot cart flying up etc.....no to scare u guys but inflt better to fasten seats belts plssssssssssss

toilet:can ask cabin crew which ones has bb diaper change board or bigger toilets
happy.gif
i;m sure they'll be nice enough to let u use biz class ones kakakkaka bigger mah

K@ye;try not to let her run inflt super dangerous.....cant expalain so much but too many stuffs to cause danger to them already
esp if they eevrythign also wanna touch.....also aircraft is not so clean either...be it SQ or else......grems/fleas....all over la .....sad to say

babies in 1st class:yup soemtimes 2 ......

BAssinet:eek:ur friends cannot fit the bassinet already la....anyway if got turbulence they hv to fasten seat belts with us or alone on a proper seat
happy.gif

better to chk in early and try to ask ground staffs to block seats for u or if possible online make booking then tryt o block seats urself...take the window and aisle seat make centree empty....sellign th e centre seat is not priority for them and ppl dun like also

Weishy, thanks! No lah, will only let her move around under adult supervision... The last round, I was alone with her... She insisted on moving around... So i was walking up & down with her on the aisle... But once got turblenece.. We are back at our seat...

Actually, as long as carpetted floors.. Its sure dirty regardless of airlines! I even witness someone spitting on the aircraft before... Almost fainted...

Grace, Claire can't fit into the bassinet liao! Her last trip to HK, my Mum says her legs are dangling out liao!

kaye/weishy,
thanks!
ah yoh.... i book infant fare then it comes with bassinet. i dont know what seats they giving me...be it aisle or window.
Should i give up the bassinet?

grace: I think bassinet only for < 6 or 12 mths, I forgot. Our toddlers too old already. Unless u want to pay 50% for a seat, they will sit on us.

Weishy/k@ye: haha there was one time my hubby and friend did that. then flight was full, they assigned the center seat to a stranger. Not sure if this is fool proof

Alamak, i just did the seats allocation based on what Weishy has told me... Aiya, nevermind when worst come to worst... Ask the passenger to swap seats with my Mum's fren lor!

Grace, which airline u using? No need to give up the bassinet lah.... On board the plane, just tell them no need lah... Coz Claire also dun want to sleep in the bassinet when she was 6 mths old!

cactusnah, if u dun mind the distance, u can book the hotel i stayed in hkg. Its big n cheap. There is a MTR station within 5-8min walking dist. 2-3 shopping malls jus across the road. I tot it was convenient enough, most impt the cheaper hotels in hkg are small, so this one was great!

btw i dropped u 3 emails..wahahaha kept forgetting wat i wanted to say, let me know ok? cos i will be posting out ur clips this evening!

Grace, GUG sucks right? ACtually alot of places are teaching Zoophonics now. Infact most CC teaches that already.

cactusnah: Depends on where u want to be near. I like Lanson Place, it's walkable to Causeway Bay. but of course, i think the hotels in the kowloon area would be cheaper...

Hello mummies! I am back and have just finished reading all the posts for the last few days. We were away last Thu, drove up to KL and then to Bukit Tinggi and Genting, back last night. Trip was good except the resort at Bukit Tinggi sucked! Cannot go there, they call it the French resort but sorry to say its like a little Malay Village!! The 3 bedrooms apartment is super old and just cannot understand how come Berjaya Group still have not refurbished them!!

I have been having MS every day and it happens in the evening! I would feel cold, headache and nausea, it will start at around 5ish pm : ( This round the pregnancy is really not EASY!!

I am sending Ashton to JG Playnest starting from this Wed (twic a week, Wed and Fri) while waiting for the bilingual class to start in July.

Grace Michviv - My galfriend sent her son (now 18months) to JG Evans Rd and she was not impressed by it. She told me they are kind of messy and they serve sausage to the kids as snack. I think sausage is not so healthy huh...and there is one kid with running nose and cough and they still allowed him to be in the class. Apparently the parents there are kind of not freindly and KS, so they will only minger with their own kiddos!
