gd luck!! tt time we told them we want to quickly finish it coz it's PH's mealtime soon.. quite a gd excuse coz they dun dare make PH hungry.. we ended the photoshott n everything within 1 hour.. hehehehe..

my mom oso want me to give a variety of food to PH.. kept commenting tt in future PH will be choosy if i dun expose him to varieties now.. but i juz act blur din hear lidat..

i hav been giving PH bread n bao when i eat it.. my mom let him tried a tiny bit of durian too.. gave him abit of cakes when i'm eating too.. heee~

durian...kid is not supposed to eat wor...cos acc to my mum that the durian not only sweet but can also cause something like 'damage' to the internal system. that's what I heard. haa, tx only got the only chance to eat cake (tiny bits only) when she is on her actual birthday tat day.

u describe PH like the one of the looney tune chars - tasmina....haa...think tx is like a tweety bird now....kept on boo boo with her saliva.Have not take tx to weight yet, the last weight is during her 9mth is 8.2kg.

Fat children - 50,000 of them, or nearly one in 10 here - have a 'significantly' higher risk of suffering a heart attack when they become adults compared with their skinnier friends. Doctors here have been trying to convince parents of this, but many still think 'fatter is better'. Such parents seem more worried when their children are skinny.

Now, a new Danish study reinforces the doctors' mantra. It directly links fat children with higher rates of heart attacks when they become adults. The study has generated interest because it is huge, covering 280,000 Danes. It showed that chubby, not just obese, children are far more likely to suffer heart attacks as adults than thin kids.

The risk of fat children getting coronary heart disease from the ages of 25 to 60 goes up significantly with every one-point increase in body mass index (BMI).

Coronary heart disease refers to both angina or chest pains caused by blocked arteries, as well as a full-blown heart attack. It is one of the main causes of deaths here. BMI is measured by dividing weight (in kilograms) by the square of height (in metres). The ideal BMI for children varies with age. A BMI of 23 is normal for a 15-year- old, but is considered overweight for a 10-year-old.

Associate Professor Quek Swee Chye, a senior consultant at the National University Hospital who specialises in children's heart problems, noted that
<font size="+1">many parents here have the misguided belief that 'the more a child eats and the bigger he is, the better'. Dr Warren Lee of KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) agreed: 'Parents put their children on calorie-fortified milk in the mistaken assumption that fussy eaters need to be a little chubby to prove that they are healthy.' Dr Lee said: 'A healthy child is one who is lean, not chubby. Parents have to ensure that their children are healthily active and eating right. ' </font>


Singapore is scrapping its 15-year-old Trim and Fit programme in schools next year. Fat kids now form 9.5 per cent of schoolchildren here, down from 14 per cent when the scheme started in 1992.

In its place is a new healthy lifestyle programme which will promote a child's social, mental and physical health. Parents had been upset over the perceived stigma their children felt when enrolled in the old scheme.

Both Prof Quek and Dr Lee said it is critical that fat children cut their unhealthy food intake and exercise more.

A Health Promotion Board survey found that 29 per cent of children take at least one sweet drink a day, and only 19 per cent did some exercise five days a week.

Dr Lee said: 'What they need is a high degree of motivation and commitment to regular exercise and dietary prudence.

'This is not easy. The child requires all the encouragement that parents, family and school teachers must give.'

wow....1 tablespoon of rice for 1 meal...errr... that's quite a little. how mandy milk intake?
my mum cooked 3 teaspoons = 1 full tin of small container (those alumin container) for tx dinner.

haa..as long as mandy eat a bit, we adult are happy right? maybe she can consume a small portion at a time only. do u separate her meal in small portion but more serving?

like tx, I have hard time to make her finish her fm. last mth, when she is on ebm, she will finish up to 240ml. now the most she can take fm is 150ml (got to spoonfeed the rest when she refuse to finish the milk) at my HSE (dunno how my mum make her drink, 4 feeds of 180ml fm each per day). so then I will give her 30-40ml of fm every 2-3hrs.but she drank a lot of water one shot can finish 80ml after her 120ml of milk milk at night.

for warm fresh milk, u tasted?? for me, since I got preggie last time, I consume warm fresh milk (HL milk) liao till now (alternate day) for calcium intake. at first, find it werid and taste not nice compare to cold milk but then eventually, got used to it.

Hope e children also like it too.

Yup I've also heard tat ft children are more likely to get heart attacks later in life even if they slim down... Actually hospitals here are under pressure to convert e growth weight charts at e back of health booklet to reflect weights of breastfed babies. Currently, they using FM fed babies. (benefits of being Science cum Bio teacher... hv to keep abreast of current scientific stuff... zzzzz)

dun get too stressed out abt Mandy's wt. I was also v stressed out abt my boy's wt. His wt dropped to 3% of e cohort when he's 1yr. Maintained tat 3% til he's reachin 2yr (wt avg: 10kg ... very light hor). I nearly freaked out cos got lots of pressure fr my mom & PD. But changed PD & new PD reassured me tat when he's ready, he'll eat. He's slowly pickin up. Me tryin not to get stressed up.

I took JT's palms and put it next to mine. It was quite obvious that it's yellowish. The nose also looks a bit orangey at certain angles. But I think unless you feed carrots/orange veg every single meal, I dun think it's that easy to get Vit A overdose. She was overdosed cos of the supplements

Haiz... I celebrated too early.... JT rejected porridge starting from Sun...Hubby brought me to triple three for dinner.... and this girl had to refuse her porrige there!! Made me lose my appetite!! And she refused to sit in her high chair for long, keep wanting to walk around the restaurant.... told hubby next time no need to waste $$ to go nice buffet with JT around... sigh...
last nite she totally refused to open her mouth to her porridge no matter what we gave her to play... in the end we gave her rice and she actually ate!! And must be fed with hands, not her spoon... I cooked softrice, will feed her for lunch later... hopefully she'll eat!!!
So good that Mandy can fatten up a bit thro fresh milk... haiz... JT desperately needs that fats!! Her wt is now 10th percentile, but her height is above 50th percentile... really skinny!! I read that article too.. actually i am ok if she is skinny if she eats... but she is skinny because she doesn't eat!!

I hd a hectic wk...after Cae's bday...I brot him for his pneumococcal jab...after which he hd fever...then he hd stomach flu...hd been vomittin n pooin watery stools...since last fri...he is better now...tho he stil cant stomach his soy milk (hez on isomil adv since hvg diarrhea)...stil cant stomach his semi solid sometimes...haizzz...I hv to report to his pd his vomittin, water intake n poo everyday...if hez stil not better...the nurse suggested tat I may hv to admit him...*cross my fingers*...he lost 400gms in 5 days!!!...haizzz...he doesnt even put on tat much in 1 mth...

act i dun tink 10kg at 2 yrs is v light. ( i said i've lowered my expectations drastically... hehehe) i noe o a 22 mth old who's only 8.5kg. in fact i tink mandy wld b bt there too. i'm just getting impatient cos she has many nice clothes but all too bigggg!! dunno when she'll get 2 wear them.

she drinks bt 160ml o milk twice to thrice a day. if i feed her in b/w meals she won't b able to eat 4 her next meal so she only really needs tt little food. she has 6 feedings a day, inclding snack. it's oso hard 4 me to add feedings cos she sleeps in b/w e feedings. 3 naps a day still.

yep, i tried warm fresh milk. really yucky. n i dun tink leaving e milk out 2 warm 4 so long is a gd idea. will haf bacteria.

aiyo i know what you mean leh.... Nat had HFM, didn't eat or drink cos of the ulcers in her throat... she lost half a kg in 4 days. it was heartbreaking. it was a horrible week for the entire family, particularly Nat herself, being traumatised with medicine every other hour cos her fever was high, 40.7 when we arrived at kkh. visited doctors everyday cos i was presented with different issues each day. can read from my blog. thankfully she recovered in time for our australia trip and we enjoyed ourselves there. i can totally understand how a mummy of a sick child feels. my whole world was upside down. now she hasn't completely resumed her usual appetite yet, have started eating but in installments.
Is Cae drinking milk already? How about porridge water? you must take care too leh, it can be tiring taking care of a sick child.

mine also eats very little leh. she only takes 90ml of milk in every three to four hours you know. her porridge hor, also in small proportions. after her falling sick, it has been worse lor. but one thing she likes is the baby bites biscuits. that one she can eat and eat but not very healthy lor i feel. sigh, but whatever goes in lah...desperate to have her consume food. oh i gave her alphabet macaroni with cheese, that one she takes... sometimes i add a little marmite in her porridge for taste too. got any new recipes to share?

He's been putting on weight cos i took 3 mths no pay leave to take care of him. He finally started eating cos i found out tat if he watches any related to trains, (either dvd, toys etc) he'll forget tat he's eating his dreaded solid food. hee

I finally get my CNY clothes at the BP liao. got 4 different set. one for my SIL's bb. tx will have 3 sets of it (one cheong sum, 2 cny costume set of different color (pink and red). it costs ony $10 and $8 loh. quite nice man...will let her wear durign the lunar CNY first day where we all 3 of us wear red red. and then the sec day, she will be wearing pink one. the next visit to hubby's pri sch hse will be wearing another set.

basically, I dun need to buy any cny clothes liao, got a lot of lovely dress (most pink one) fr her ist birthday liao.

Old people used to say if babies do not walk by 10 months, they should be able to walk on 13 months, else will have to wait till 18th months. Guess it very true for my jav. He can walk by himself on 12mths 3weeks.

not sure if i'm right but i think usually orange coloured veg got vit A. E.g. carrots, cannot overdose or bb becomes orange. But pumpkin seems ok. Cos i give my bb ger pumpkin almost everyday for 1 week. Never c colour change in her skin.

wow, yr boy did not have slp routine? slp so late. wat if he woke up in the mid of the night saw u playing with computer and how would u explain to him then? later when he knew the adult bluff him, he will not gain the trust liao. my hubby always said dun bluff kids. even my gar can't finish her milk milk and we wanted her to drink finish cannot bluff her saying water loh. later on, if she 'find out' it is not water then she won't drink water any more.

haa..my other frenz bb now 20mth is 12kg liao. what brand of fm do yr kids drink? I also just started my gar - tx on gain iq last week. but she got to finish her nan 2 cos still got a few tins left. occassionally, she has her mummy brand milk milk (now miserable amt but precious drop man...haa I made sure she 'licked' finish all).

Din post these 2 days cos hubby on leave starting from yesterday... so keep going out hehehe....

I've officially joined your club making all food into sticks and balls. JT ate the softrice that I cooked, but only like 7-8 spoons then stopped liao... I was desperate so made all the rice+groundmeat and veg into balls, and she loved them!! The 1st time I didn't prepare enuf and she actually finished everything... then the next time I prepared like half an adult bowl of rice + meat + veg and she finished everything! But she eats them in installment... she finished everything in abt 3 sittings, with 15min interval each time.... whatever lah as long as she eats...but both hubby and I were wondering how long her enthusiasm for this will continue.. haiz... just got to take a step at a time and see how lor..
But at least Mandy looks proportional lor... she just looks petite... JT is really skinny cos she is tall... sometimes when I change/bath her, I look at her body... can really see all the bones sticking out...I see liao sometimes my tears will come out cos I dunno how in the world I end up with such a skinny baby.
today I went to an auntie's birthday lunch and she was so insensitive... said in my face that I dunno how to take care of baby.... where got baby so skinny one..... and because I dunno how to cook delicious porridge tat's why JT dun wan to eat.... GRRRR..... as if I'm not upset enuf that I've got an extremely skinny baby!!

My boy bully my mil, always sleep late at her place. She took care of him fr 5mth to 2yr 2mth. Then i took no pay leave to take care of him. Managed to set some routine with him. He totally no routine at mil place. Drink milk &amp; play time at his own heart's desire... sometimes no pm nap.. play &amp; play lor. then too tired kick up BIG tantrum. Mil too soft hearted to enforce routine. =(

My boy at first on similac but drink lesser every day so switch to Wyeth. Fren recommend, say it tastes nearest to breastmilk. Not sure true or not lah but my boy loves it. So my ger also follow same brand lor. Ya, B milk very precious 1... must finish. =)

went to take a look at ur video but dun know which one is u leh. u studies microbio? poly or uni? PH reminded me of my boy, took him to play at beach, he screamed when he got sand on his feet. By e way, got a bk abt activities for chilren. Can let PH try veg printing. Get small piece celery, brocoli or carrot &amp; some paint (can't be too watery or too thick... must try out 1st). Then let him print on paper. Goin to try out with my boy this weekend.

yeah, hor, i am wondering why there are so much bubbles for the gian iq.haa..when I was typing this pondering qns, my pondering qns got answer as I received a call from abbott and I 'shun bian' asked why got so much bubbles. the lady on phone told me that bec this is a growing up milk contains more substance and the bubbles are helped to break down so that bb is easy to digest. so that's why this is the cause.

tx is gg to finish her tin of 400g of gain iq soon. but I dun mix with nan 2 leh, I asked my mum to give her 3 feed of nan and 1 feed of gain iq. and sometimes she got a bit of ebm for her dessert with her cereal. so I kept on turning the bottle to an angle that one will not cause the bubbles. it works.

I asked my col that how she cope with kid when she send the toddler to child care ctr. the toddler also kick a mess but she just let her kick while reasoning with her the same time saying that she must be 'guai guai' later mummy come to fetch u after work and bring u yr favorite biscuit. then after sometimes, she ok with it or else she make a fuss and cried everytime she went childcare ctr. talking abt wyeth, i mailed to wyeth few mth back to get sample but no response so i called them and then the lady told me that they run out of sampel liao and have to wait for next yr. hmmm wyeth brand taste similar like bm? hmm.... agd, as long as ur boy drinks better than he is on similac loh. haa...agreed, milk cost $$ compare to bm. but bm also precious esp now I am gg to stop liao, only pump 3 days later. and then got miserable amt (dun say that loh, think need to say precious amt). so I will personally give to my gar and make sure she finish it with her cereal. haa...

my gar is only trying her writing on the doodle set. she scribble and scribble.


enjoy yr long weekend. i'm so glad that i can spend long wkend (lot of program line up for us, gg to photo shoot this sun and it's also a challenging to bring her to town this sun cos first time gg to town with tx) with my tx till xmas day then send her back. but xmas eve half day so hubby is taking care of her in the morning till noon. haa dunno how hubyb will cope with tx or not....
