i'm also using the slow cooker. Very easy. Just scald the pork with boiling water. Put everything together and cook. Only add in the green veg and steam fish separately near feeding time.
As for using ikan bilis stock or other soup stock, i will cook it when i'm cooking for myself. Eg i use the ikan bilis stock to cook noodles / yong tau foo for myself.
Some of the mommies here grind the ikan bilis into powder form, I don't have the time to do that so that's another way.

It's not very thin leh, it's brown and scaly. Yes just scrape the green parts and leave the shell / skin.
