hi 1st time mummies,

my GF Medusa juz popped last sat n she posted her birth story & BFg experience in tis thread. read abt it...e key message is 'latch latch latch' in e beginning. for some reasons, u cant do so, seek help. if really cant BF, dun panick or get stressed. no harm giving FM 2 bb. also dun worry abt not having enuff BM. BM flow usually kicks in abt 4-7th day after u pop, depending on e mother & also e BFg technique.

I still haven't finished washing bb clothings. these few days raining non stop, my clothes cannot dry!!

Dino, what's the vaginal test and urine test?
vaginal swab is for getting some sample to test for the existence of group B streptococcus bacteria infection. I've done a UTI test and urine culture in Malaysia (done by my brother) in my 2nd trimester, the result was negative, so Dr Wong said there's no need to do it again, and this bacteria more commonly attack vaginal, so will do vaginal swab.

just to update, I joined the BP of Ameda breast pump and got the deal at $285 by Mickey (the same sales guy as urs?). But they r not sending the pump to me now, as i mentioned my edd is in Aug, so i'll call them after i deliver, then they will send the pump to me at $290. If my hb can collect from their office, it'll be $285. I think this is quite fine, as i can save on the warranty.

For spareparts wise, is it true that buying from MIM is cheaper than directly from Euramedic?
 
wow mummies, some of u already started packing yr bag ah..me also very blur as to wat to bring to the hospital..i haven even bought my nursing bras at all..how?

wat good brands are there ah? n are all nursing bras suppose not to have underwire? heard that nursing bras also dun have strapless ones then how ah when we wearing spaghetti tops etc? Can all of u share wat brands of nursing bra did u all get and how to know wat size to get for now? will our breasts size still increase? For me now, i am still wearing underwire bras..not too use to not having underwire leh...

Btw wat the raspberry tea for ah? heard a lot about it but no idea wat is it for actually...seems like alot of u ordered from MIM ah...

what's the difference between raspberry Tea leaves and tea for 2 sold by MIM? and how many pacs did you all buy? how much did you drink per day? and when did you start drinking?

Bette to get nursing bra without underwire as it will block the breast flow, according to Mdm Wong at antenatal class. In fact she doesn't encourage wearing nursing bra as it'll affect bb to touch us closely.

u may wanna consider getting a tube bra if u wear spaghetti tops. it's e other alternative 2 a nursing bra if u r still nursing. anyway, e spaghetti top u wear shld b a nursing top too. if not, how u nurse outside?

i bought Impression Nursing Bras from Seiyu Bugis. I shared wif everyone here a few wks back. dirt cheap, quality not bad for e price. i used 2 buy triumph nursing bras but at $29.90 for e simplest plainest bra, i rather pay $9.90 for e Impression brand.

i packed my hospital bag when i'm 32wks. u can consider packing it when u reach 32wks.

I've ordered the Tea for 2 which contains raspberry tea leaves too, it comes in a pack of 50g, think everytime just need to use a bit to make into a pot. But i'll use those little mesh teaball to put the tea leaves then make a cup each time. I'm in my 31st week now, and just going to start drinking

You can go to the MIM's website to read up on what is in the tea for 2, bcos it contains a few other ingredients beside the raspberry tea leaves which is said to be good for both mommy and baby...

after i saw your posting, i also went to get the impression bra at seiyu. It's really worth to get a nursing bra at this price. Maybe after confinement, when more vain then get more nice lacy ones to wear out...kekeke
 
Thanks Dino, Dr wong never mention all these test to me during last visit. May be will do it on my next visit next week. hmm...cost another $80+, really spend alot of money.... hope no need do the CTG for next visit.

She said need to explain in details all the procedure but as I know it should be no problem to donate the cord blood even we deliver at TMC

I've just bought 1 packet of the tea for 2 leh since it also includes raspberry tea (but you can add extra raspberry if you want), think more than enough to last me till after delivery still can drink. I'll try to start slow 1st then increase to 4 cups a day if i'm ok wif the taste and all..

By the way, it mentioned it's good for relaxation and milk letdown. But during confinement we are not supposed to drink anything else but red dates drink rite? So do you mommies think i can still drink this tea leaves intermittently during that period of time?

i also dun noe when to start packing..like a lot of things i haven buy yet for myself..haven got the disposable panties, maternity pads, nursing bras etc..so how to pack..hee hee...went to giant at parkway and Dr P maternity pads r all sold out..sigh..now need to see where else to get..i have 2 PJs so think i juz bring 2 sets there...Plus i haven started washing bb clothes yet..oh no..like alot of things haven done yet...have u done most of it already? Juz manage to buy bb cot from taka...so guess bb items r more or less settle..now is myself..haha

Marie from Moms R Us brought in quite a number of flattering designs.
Winnie from Mirth Maternity too.

Some of their clothings look better on us then on the screen so it'll be good if you can try them out. I just bought a few pieces from them.

i come across tube bras wif no wire but it was a long time ago n i dunno where 2 find them now.

wait til u give birth then u'll know if u r determined abt BFg. for me, i m very determined abt BFg so i went ahead 2 buy those unglam, not-stylish-at-all, boring nuring tops. i didnt buy many, just 4 simple tops for me 2 wear them out.

i BF anywhere, anytime. if u r talking abt nursing rooms, u can find them if u can tell when ur bb needs 2 drink milk (nursed). if ur bb is e sort who wails, cries nonstop n needs 2 b nursed ASAP, u wont bother 2 find such nursing rooms. u just 1 2 shut ur bb up n BF ur bb on e spot.

for me, i BF at cafes, restaurants, hotel lobbies, airport, taxis, shopping centres (while sitting around), inside friens' cars, practically anywhere. in e beginning, when i didnt hv any nursing top, i had 2 hunt for nursing room. there was once e shopping ctr i was at, dun hv nursing room (i tik it's Lucky Plaza), i had no choice but 2 bring my son 2 e toilet. Yikes! it was a terrible experience. After tat, I went straight 2 MIM, bought 4 tops at a go n I BF anywhere since then.

If u really dun like BFg in public, bring EBM out but make sure ur EBM stays chilled. I come across a GF who also brings her Avent breastpump out so she pumps & feed her girl (her girl dun latch on well so no choice, gotta feed EBM).

Once u discover e ease & joy of BFg (i'm sure ur husband wont mind it too), u wont mind wearing those nursing tops. I even bought nice lacy nursing bras so I feel betta than wearing those plain boring beige-colored nursing bras.

Btw, if i not wrong, nursing tops do come in spaghetti design too. Check out MIM n other website selling nursing tops.

FYI, husband was very grouchy when i stopped BFg. e hassle of making FM, bringing hot water out, etc is too much. When I 1st stopped BFg, my son bawled so badly tat husband had 2 stop on expressways or by e road a few times 2 make FM. Once, we didnt bring hot water out cos we tot we shld b at a shopping ctr or eating outlet (where we can get hot water) by e time my son wanna drink. No, we were wrong. my son screamed, bawled so badly tat husband stopped at a petrol kiosk n got hot water 2 make milk. Ley chey!

(pardon me 4 my long post...not intending 2 stress tat BFg is a MUST or very gd...just sharing my experience)

I'm back from my gynae visit. a very long visit today. bb's growth is ok now. thank god. 1.9kg but as his head is deep in my pelvis, the person doing the scanning is unable to give an accurate measurement of his head circumference. Walked along the corridors for a long time and scanned for 4 times but bb refused to move his head. sigh...

gynae was saying that since bb's head is deep in my pelvis, i need to do a ctg and also to check bb's fetal heartbeat in case bb wants to see the world earlier.

Spent another hr doing the ctg. luckily bb is ok and i only have braxton hicks. phew! was really worried prior to receiving the results.

remember to pack some extra NB size disposable diapers in case baby runs out of supply.. if you get extra from hospital, i think got extra charge. Bring along your own milk bottle in event end up need to feed formula milk initially

cheaper tube bras can be bought from impression brand also, but no wire lah..alternatively, you can opt to buy bonds sphagetti tops with build in support.. but, still not easy to BF in lah..

I tried massaging my breasts last night and guess what? I do have slight near-transparent oily discharge leh! think it's the colostrum you ladies mentioned yesterday

Did Dr wong mention that if u pop early, u may need a steriod jab(to mature bb's lungs) and drip for 24 hours b4 going to labour? And the jab is super painful, somewhere on the thigh. Sounds scary.

I read from somewhere b4 regarding the swelling of feet 3x. Sometimes, it may also due to our mum's genes. My mum told me she had the swollen feet when towards her EDD. I hope I dun pop early. I am thinking of increasing my shoes size liao. Quite tight now.

actually i read online that swollen feet during pregnancy are sometimes due to too much salt we took..got to drink lots of water. other wise if near to EDD the feet got swollen cos we are going to give birth..

As for the whitish oily stuff you all found on the nipple, I've been having it since 2 mths back leh...and happily squeezing it out during shower bcos i dun want it to block my ducts mah... Until I went for the prenatal massage, the lady told me to stop doing that bcos I may triggle off contraction, and she said she'll show me how to remove the block ducts using a syringe to draw them out when i'm in my 35th week.
We can massage our breasts with circular motion around it but avoid touching the nipples.

For swollen feet, what catherine mentioned is true. It's due to the salt intake we have in our diet, try to drink more water to keep hydrated, a very effective way to keep those swollen feet at bay. Other contributory factors are
1)our hormones which caused our underlying skin tissue to thicken during this period, it's gonna get worse nearing our due date, so be prepared.
2)bcos we sit or stand alot during the day, gravity plays a part.
3)Not exercising enough, so blood circulation not that fantastic, fluid all remains at the feet. Try to walk around in the office after every hour, and elevate your legs when you're back home. If can put a stool underneath your office table even better

Ya i would like to BF..but i am a rather vain mummy as well..hahaha..n hence i hate the idea of wearing those ugly nursing top...i din know we can bring our EBM out..but if we keep them chilled then how do we warm up our EBM for the bb to drink..the idea of bring the pump out is another alternative too..hmm...anyway, u mention that unless i know my bb needs to drink milk when i am out..dun most bb cry when they want to be fed? i am blur..hee hee..if not then how would we know when they r hungry ah when we bring them out? Me super ignorant..pls help...

nipple discharge-
all along i have discharge from my nipples even before preg. but the amt is v little, just stuck onto the nipple tip and i try to clear after bath. but till now i dun hav colostrum yet. How abt u ladies previously?

To store the cord blood, u need to contact the coordinator first then just tell Dr wong before delivery will do.

Yah, I heard she said if deliver early need jab but if after 35wks still need? I keep praying hope I will deliver after 36wks, if not I can not donate my baby cord blood.
 
Talking about cord blood, I called the public cord blood banking, for those brithing in private hospitals, they only can do it for those birthing in TMC and the next one would be raffles

Yes, because stemcord having promotion for their 5 yrs anniversary. But I'm not so sure the price will be different for different gynea, because this is the price my gynea told me. I didn't contact the stemcord coordinator.

For cord blood donation, I only know should be no problem for TMC and govnt hospital. Will meet the coordinator next week, may share with you after that. But donation mean you got no rights/control on the baby cord blood anymore.
