I agree with CHM! Get a secure job first before leaving the current company. Unless you would wan to take a break (spend time with Kristen) before striving out to look for other jobs.

For resume, you can always say u just taking a break. Reason of leaving, looking for better advancements etc... For young mummies like you, I'm sure it will be easier to get a job as employers seems to favour younger ppl.. becos they are full of energy and strength! For you, I think even much easier, with your brains and creativity.. I'm sure u can get a nice job to sit in - in no time!

just my 2 cents worth. quitting without a job - how comfortable are u leaving current job without securing another first? while i think it is wiser (not to mention easier on finance) to leave current job only after securing another, the weight of caring for K and training maid to help out wif K's speech therapies will be resting on u, right? if u're comfortable wif finances at least in the next 6 months, then i think it's ok to to quit and concentrate on getting a maid on track etc. u can also take this time to assess wat u're looking for... it won't reflect badly on u for quitting without a job first and i believe that u'll be able to find something u'll like

it is helping me view clearly the pros n cons.

finance-wise, it's not so much a problem because we're living with our parents n so far are not contributing to the household-bills. all my earnings so far, is used for kristen's milk n diapers n her barang-barangs. i juz feel very guilty cos it appears as if we're taking advantage of our parents generosity. i have more than enough savings so far, but don't want to appear ungrateful.

maid is leaving at the end of this month. so that is really too soon also, but i would really like to be able to teach the new maid also to care for kristen. either that or i use the leave from my current job right now to do it. dun wan to be unfair to my employer also. =/

anyway, not planning to have a kid until kristen is at least 5. kristen is a special needs child n demands the attention n time of 2 kids put together. =P want to make sure she gets all the things she needs to put her on the right track.

chm, u're right, my biggest worry is how to explain the break in my resume.
 
PM, my interest is in the HR line. Tempted by marketing but i've been told it requires alotalot of OT. I'm not sure I'm prepared for too much OT'ing right now. haha..

No compensation as in 2 months notice but boss didn't pay the 2 months notice. juz ask her to leave on the same day n pay her only what she already worked for but not for the notice period.

can see the welfare of your existing office is not good. I believe you deserve more. HR is rather a hot deal in the town can get good job offer. No harm trying to look another job. Not all HR required a lot of OT. dun let ur job kill your smile. It will indirectly affect your mood when reach home. There are a lot of new mums out in the society and definitely not penalised for jz being a mum.

Peach, I work in HR, now there is change in regulation, employer is not suppose to ask about personal Q ...e.g planning for kids, age, dont even need to state in yr resume ...etc!

For my current situation, i am planning to resign rest for 2mth then look for job! Reason i need a rest!...hahaha...u can give lots of valid but not negative reason...! Employer will ask but not a point to determine recruiting loh! they will consider how long u stay at each job, experience...etc....

currently u work as a contract base right? therefore u do not need to give for 2mth notice period?

My point of view...whether is there a break in service anot is not a important point, unless u are looking for a better salary package! holding a job now give u stronger power to nego. Some company would prefer staff that can start immediately.

I had been working in HR for 10yrs...! I works lots of OT also leh!

Oh but y u wan resign immediately? dont do it impulsively y not find a job first? now the market quite good leh, dont wait till yr end!...btw currently u work in HR?
 
i believe the break in the resume can be explained with your young baby. Most organisations can take that as a reason. Dun worry.. at the same time, you can take care of your baby. Seeing your baby growing up is only once in a lifetime. Once they passed the baby age, you cant retrieve the time.

although i cant be SAHM, i still insist of taking care of my baby once i reach home even though i have to wake up 2-3 times at the middle of night to latch my baby. cos i strongly believe that is what i can give to compensate the time loss during daytime as i cannot be a SAHM, need to help my brother to support his house (cos he is not working at the current moment). IF your financial status allow you to SAHM for a short while (1-2 years), go for it!! =)

Believe me, you will not regret it. Cos growing up is precious and cant be replayed. AS for job, anytime can find one. jz give yourself some time. Determination wins all.
 
zita, ehz.. but u see all those online application. they still ask for that. or at least there's a box for u to fill out but it's optional. it's so fishy to leave it blank.. haha..
i'm working perm staff. in fact, company is so small n not hiring, i dunno who to handover whatever i have to. no sup n no one below me... other than the interns. which is another reason why i'm dragging my feet cos i feel bad for the candidates. =( 2 month notice period is juz to make it harder for us to leave i think, n to make sure everything is handed over.

mamaanne, ur speech very inspiring. =) i think maybe i'll take this couple of weeks or months free from a job to look for a good job that would have career prospects n better welfare so that i don't have my same situation repeating again. dun wanna juz grab the first job that comes up either.
 
wah...fruitee ur comments on the companies want younger ppl...then me this lao kok kok one...if wanna go back workforce then cham liao..hahahaha,....think must go old folks home to work liao...or maybe go ntuc /giant be cashier hor..hehehe

I'm also still BF my girl. I intend to do it till she turns 1. How many times is ur boy taking milk either from bottle or latch on? I never suppliment her with any formula. DOn't know if it's enough for her, very worry. She is not putting on weight for 3 months liao. Checked w my PD she said as long as she is not dropping weight more than 500g then it's ok.
 
zita, why i wan to resign impulsively ah. cos of something major that happened that i see the ship sinking n sinking very fast. something to do with US regulation.
been wanting to resign since last year, at first got 7 of us in SG office, then all drop out like flies. now got 2 of us (i'm the one who has been here longest) n 2 interns. i stayed on cos i felt bad about taking maternity leave n bonus (juz 1 month). i know i'm being paid below market rate as well for my qualifications. feel bad also. now when i leave then left 1?.. think i too emotional liao la.

i've been sending out resumes.. since wednesday. haha. =P bad news that reaffirmed my decision came in yesterday. sigh.
 
peach..then continue sit in the ship till u find a better wan lah, i tink yr speed will be faster then the sinking ship leh! btw i am not better then u. i had so many implusive moment to throw my letter...hahaha...! but the good benefit hold me onz...till now i got thyroid due to stress...not worth!

for my case i need to resign before i look for job, dont want to stress myself taking leave, cause my boss will ask thousand time y u apply leave and reject 50% of the time cause of tons of load to clear...haha

And i had cont...working for 15yrs liao, is time for a rest...n be PTT hahaha

my baby at night latched about 3 times but is one time each breast. he dun like to switch breast unless totally empty and he is still hungry. SOmetimes abt 4 times if he still hungry. mine is direct latch, no bottle. If weekend, i will latch him more.. Normally if i express out, one time is about 160-180, but i normally break into a 2 bottles for cereal and brown rice for my mum to mix with during my working hours. My boy din gain much weight. one month about 500g or so..

Now every morning he started to take one full bowl of normal porridge (with dried scallops - one mummy here teach me for enhancing of taste in porridge, fish and grinded powder ikan bilis (own self grind), sometime put vege or potato as texture). My mum will feed him, and i also got a small share to eat with him.

I believe you also feed her with cereal right? If you feel his calcium intake is not enough, try supplement her with the ikan bilis in the porridge or cereal (but must grind yourself, outside one got MSG- not healthy). i ever tried mixing BM with FM, my boy dun fancy it.. no choice, have to increase his intake with solids.

My doc say, as long your baby is active, he/she is growing well.. although i am still worry why he so skinny..

grinded ikan bilis? how to do it? Normal ikan bilis from provision shop will do? Right now, i only add fish, meat and/or egg yolk and vegetables into the porridge. I did not try dried scallops though...wanted to wait till my boy turns 1.

I BF her 3 times before naps and night time about 2-3times. Morning she takes some bread, cookies and cheese. Lunch good mood half small bowl of porridge, bad mood few spoons. Snack around 4pm, cereal & cookies. Dinner same as lunch pattern. I've stopped pumping BF as not much 2 pump liao! Now am having headache don't know what should I give other than all these. What is good for breakfast? She don't really fancy fruits...

My 2cents worth ... if you are not in need of $, you can tender and take your time to look for a better job. The market is very good now, shouldn't take too long for you to find another one (I have just tendered, am moving to a new job next month). Just few months of break will not make a great difference in your resume.

If $$ is a concern, then you should start looking for new job now. Don't wait for too long coz not too sure what will happenen in a few months time in case of any unforseen economic events like a sudden 911.

zita - haha.. small company mah. anyway think my colleague was juz so happy to get out without having to serve any notice. anyway, think the market is quite okay now actually. juz send out my resume on wed n getting a few phone calls already. cross my fingers. i wanna go into a bigger company where has room to grow n more structure.

this will be my first time tendering (first job mah). haha.. my internships all that is leave cos its part of the deal. this is first job, tendering, very nervous. thinking about it my heart rate go up alot, my palms start to sweat. that sort of thing :p heheeh. drama i know. i'm sure i'll be very happy when it's done tho.

money-wise, i'm not in dire-need like i wun need to eat dirt tomorrow if i dun work today. but i'm saving up for my own place in the future (hopefully near future) so still must work eventually. cannot eat up my savings.

birthday cake - i'm thinking of pine garden. a two tier one preferably. hee. so pretty.

no la.. i strip, chop n boil the potatoes. cook with chicken, carrots, brocolli, sweet corn can also.. boil inside those chicken stock or veggie stock. all the type of veggie can also. it's like rice lor. cook until the potato is soft soft, mash abit, can eat already. i'm also lousy cook, juz follow recipe :p

never tried alphabet pasta also, but the book i read has recipes for it. am very tempted but haven't gotten down to trying it. =D

Yup, the normal ikan bilis, then put inside a grinder to make it powder form. use a tight container to store it.

About bread, is it bcos her digestive take longer time to digest? I have problem taking bread, of which after that i feel bloated. No appetite to eat lunch. Dun give her too much cookies, it will become a habit of snacking. did you observe what she like and dislike? how about giving her porridge in the morning first? At time i will feed my baby with the Heinz fruit gel.

how abt soyabean noodle (dou qian)? i am planning to try that on my baby. or put sweet potato in ur porridge to taste sweeter?
 
yes, my baby also like it.. he like orange colour fruit & Vege (like pumpkin, carrot & sweet potato, papaya, etc). rich in carotene too!!
